Deleting batterystats is useless! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Most of the time you read responses about sucking battery life after flashing a rom or kernel. Battery life seems to drop dramaticly.
There are a lot of discussions about callibration methods, and believe me, I tried them all. But I got suspicious when I found no differences in the results. The thing I did discover was that after a couple of days the battery usage will become more stable. No matter what callibration method is used.
The only thing that seems to work is to charge your battery to full, after a flash. nothing more.

I had battery life issues that wouldn't go away, so I just installed that some battery life app. Somehow that helped so much

+1 the stars are erased every time you plug the phone into a charger
Swyped from the white galaxy note.

Seidio is coming with a 5000mAh battery. Problems solved.

I believe the purpose of deleting battery stats is to calibrate the reading of the battery gauge in the note, nothing to do with battery life!

+1 Doing a reboot then a full charge with display off always chills any battery overheating I've had.
Deleting stats will improve calibration so that the Note doesn't discharge for two hours and show 100% , then discharge another two hours and drop to 80%. Instead calibrating will show 90% after two hours then 80% after another two. The net result of battery use is still the same, only the metering is a little more accurate.

With regards to calibration, the Galaxy Note has the same MAX17042 fuel-gauge chip as in the Galaxy S2.
Entropy512 posted about how this chip functions on the Galaxy S2, and how different it is to the HTC devices which have a different way of measuring charge that does need calibrating now and then.
From what I understand, although the MAX17042 chip can 'glitch' readings sometimes, it tends to 'self-calibrate' over time:

Extreme Battery Level Drop After Reboot, Increases During Use

The topic pretty much explains it. I've been using different modified stock roms and now I'm on the latest nightly of CM7, and I keep having this issue. After a reboot at around 50%, the battery drops to 15%. The weird part is that while I continue to use the phone, it slowly rises back up to sometimes 30% and then starts going back down. I've always cleared battery stats when flashing and calibrated (which I believe is unnecessary), but I don't know if this is a problem with the battery, the phone, or if anyone else is having the same issue?
Attached is a screenshot of battery usage. You can see I never actually charged the phone.

anyway guys, you need to recalibrate your battery, its not being read accuracy.
download BatteryCalibration from the market, charge your phone till 100% (not just 100% but when it beeps, that its truely at 100%), then use BatteryCalibration to calibrate your battery, and then drain it to 0.. (crank full brightness, turn on LED flashlight, blast internet radio, whatever makes it drain faster to get this part overwith), then recharge it to max.
so;
charge to full 100%
while still plugged in, run BatteryCalibration
discharge to 0%
recharge to 100%
battery successfully calibrated, you will now have an accurate reading
I had exactly the same issue on 3 different custom roms....finally resolved by going bck to stock rom

did you
did you rsolve the problem ? how? I have the same problem and I tried more stock roms ... I don't know what tot do ....
Its nothing to do with calibration etc, its just how the fuel gauge chip works, it learns and more accurately reports usage over time. For example, if you reboot and (I can't remember the actual voltages for the S2) you have 1200mV, the chip goes, "ah, that is 15% battery." Then as you use it more, it relearns its settings and goes "aaah, my mistake 1200mV is really 30% battery. I'll display that instead."
Its been covered frequently that "calibrating" the battery of the S2 in any way but actually using it, is next to useless.

i had my first unusual battery drain last night, woke up with 74% left after 7hrs of sleep. today it's back to normal, 88% left after 11hrs of standby only (very light to no use of the phone), does it seem like i should still root and flash the fix?

This doesn't fix the problem that some AT&T users are having with poor battery life in areas with bad LTE reception. In those cases, Cell Standby is actually draining their batteries. It isn't just a reporting error. If your battery stays warm even when you aren't using your phone and have all your apps closed, this isn't going to help you.
If I have no Lte just hspa+ would that drain my battery? Like, is my phone constantly searching for lte? I heard to make a custom apn for just hspa + but Idk how or if it will help. I'm AT&T and am having poor battery life

Battery saving tips

Okay so for the last two weeks I have put myself on this case to find out why some people have bad performance of their batteries and why some don't even on roms that some say they have bad battery drain and some don't.
I've goggled this, asked people's opinions and did loads of tests with my Galaxy s3 to find out how to get the best performance of my battery and thought I'd share my findings.
Because the battery you have in your s3 has no memory you have to train your phone to know the exact consumption you have in your battery.
To do this you have to put your battery through a cycle, I do this by charging to 100% then to 1% and then back up again.
This trains your phone into knowing how much juice your battery has.
When flashing roms it is best to flash a rom at 100% then leave on charge for a few minutes as it saves time.
It's also best to do a cycle after flashing any rom.
If you flash a rom at 50% or in between 50% to 100% this confuses your phone and it doesn't know the full voltage of your battery so you might find when looking at your battery stats it gives two different readings and your battery will drain faster than normal.
I've also read to get the best performance it's best to do a few cycles.
Hope this helps some people and if you already know this then just ignore what I've said and have a nice day
Everything I've said I have tested and done research on because I was getting really upset with my battery performance.
Now I can relax and just enjoy my s3

In that respect a full discharge and recharge should be carried out after every 25 or so small charges .
Their is an awful lot of false battery information or made up rules floating about on XDA .

Like the OP i am not really sure what you are saying .
The rule has always been flash on 50% plus .
Reboot and use the phone after three or four charges battery is re calibrated .
Battery stats has no bearing on battery life or usage and resets itself after a near full charge .

You're not alone in pondering thus subject!
If I can not flash on a full charge I'll all ways do 2-3 full cycles after.
I also wipe the battery statistics before I flash a ROM.

Ive observed one thing.. after flashing a new rom I get dismal battery times.. at 95+% just after a charge I dial *#0228# which pulls up a battery status window.. tap quick start and I see a sudden drop in battery around 10-20%..
After this the battery performs steadily.. until I flash a new rom..

Don't even try.. battery doesn't charge while flashing. Moreover if in the process of flashing the phone runs out of battery you end up with a brick.. your phone might become a quite expensive but beautiful paper weight.
This is why it is always recommended to have atleast 50% battery before flashing... Happy flashing

I flashed when charged and let it charge back up to 100% then unplug and my battery doesn't zoom down like it used to.
Before every time I flashed a rom I'd lose about 50% battery in about 2 hours.

[Q] Battery issues with my phone

Hello there.
My phone has a bit of a problem with battery drains.
I have a MB525 with CM10, 17/02 build.
The issue:
It's about the frickin battery drops. It drains too fast and then it drops from 80 percent to a whalloping 50 percent, and then from 48 percent to 15 percent. And then to 4 percent. Not to mention the phone's temperature rises ridiculously when I use 3G.
I have already tried:
- undervolting the battery (no significative results)
- letting it drain completely and then charging again (did not work, battery still drains)
- clearing battery stats (no effect)
While charging, the battery jumps from 50% to 100% fully charged.
I am seriously considering buying a new battery, but I'm afraid it's an issue with the ROM rather than the battery itself.
Any other ideas are welcome. I need to solve this issue ASAP.
Thanks in advance.

Wiping battery stats / calibrating does nothing beyond a placebo effect. I know that lots of people will run down their battery all the way, but it's actually hard on li-ion batteries to do that. I had a lengthy, informative article on this at one point, but now I can't find the link.
