I don't think there's anything you can do about removing the soft button bar, short of installing a custom ROM. If you install GoLauncher EX, it looks a lot like stock gingerbread, at least if you can learn to ignore the button bar at the bottom. It doesn't really bother me. If you're rooted and you install the FFF bootloader, and either TWRP or CWM-touch, it's easy to make backups and try out different ROMs.

Not an option. There are several threads discussing this (search for 'unlock'). The problem is that Amazon took some shotcuts to providing soft buttons and bundled the lock, notification bar and soft button bar into a single module. Killing the Amazon lock with an app like no lock does remove the button bar, but also kills the notification bar which you need at the very least to control WiFi, volume and so on. Also, the button bar will tend to return unexpectedly if an app issues minimize/maximize requests or sends a notification to the top bar. Conclusion: if you want to deal with this, you'll have to install CM7 or ICS.

[BUG] DCv2.05: Pressing menu twice to unlock screen pops up menu on homescreen

Has anyone found a fix for this yet? Only issue I've found thus far with the ROM. Otherwise, it's great!
Doesnt do that for me...
It does for me on the newest Fresh ROM. Doesn't really bother me being that I rarely unlock the screen that way. If I had someway to disable that method of unlocking alltogether, that would be better IMO.

I think it is a result of using the HTC Lockscreen rather than the stock Android one.
This happens on the Fresh 2.0d and DC2.05
It is driving me NUTS!
Any idea how to fix this?
Installing Espresso or DROID launcher from this thread will fix it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657728
have you tried pressing menu once?
I'm almost positive that this has always been a feature of the HTC lock screen even in 1.5
If you don't fully slide the lock screen a message will appear stating either fully slide down the screen or press menu

That's hardly a "fix". That's like saying you can fix the low tire on your Porsche by buying a Yugo....
I would pay cash money for a ROM that got rid of the double menu press to unlock.

I would say the issue is hardly a "bug".
But, if you want it fixed, I've given you an option. I don't know if I'd compare installing the espresso launchbar or DROID launchbar to downgrading from a Porsche to a Yugo.... but, if you were really interested in fixing the issue without using espresso or DROID, you could install one of those launchers and then reinstall the stock launcher and see if the problem stays away.
Or, you could wait until someone else figures it out for you....
All I know is that I am running DamageControl v2.05 and no longer have the menu pop-up issue.
Droid launcher does resolve that issue. I have come to like the style of it for now until the next version of this rom comes out. This is an issue with flipz rom as well. The Droid launcher works good on each rom.
Just to everyone is clear, the problem is new with the recent roms DC and Fresh.
Pressing menu once brings up the lockscreen, pressing menu again unlocks the screen AND brings up the white menu popoup. It should only unlock the screen and not open the menu.
I have installed the black droid launcher onto fresh and I no longer have the problem.
yea i have teh same problem, and its annoying as hell as thats usually the way im used to unlocking my phone, and what they mean is, click home once to wake up phone, click again to unlock and it also brings up the home menu, it never did it on any other rom. its annoying

Just to be clearer. This was a built-in function from 1.5, its on page 10 of the Sprint manual. HTC considers this to be a feature, not a bug.

Incorrect. On stock 1.5, from the lock screen, you could press menu to unlock instead of swipe. Now, if you press menu from the lock screen, it will unlock AND pull up the menu.
Regardless of whether this is a feature or a bug, it was not like this in stock 1.5.

[Q] Crashes when home button is pressed

Hi all, a noobie here, I have a DZ running 2.3.3, although I had this problem before the OTA update. When I press the home button, on what is becoming annoying frequently, it crashes, the screen goes white with HTC in green, then the home screen appears, greyed out, with loading in the centre, for 15 to 30 seconds. I have tried uninstalling various apps, to see if they are the cause but it seems to make no difference. Any ideas to at least try and find out what is causing this? I have thought of doing a factory reset but would rather not if there is an easier way.
I have the same problem, It's annoying every now and again, but i've tried a factory reset which hasn't helped in anyway.
I'm not impressed with the 2.3.3 ROM..
It sounds like the launcher is closing itself to save memory. You probably have a memory-hogging app constantly running in the background. You could try force-closing the app in the App Settings menu, or you could install an alternative launcher such as LauncherPro (link) off the Market.
Just trying launcherpro now, so far so good, as stated earlier, I'm a join, would I be correct, from what I have seen so far using it, that I am no longer using HTC Sense?

Your ROM is still HTC Sense. You're just using a new launcher.

[Q] Softkeys to save the hardkeys?

Hi there!
If this was answered, then I don't know how to search, delete this thread.
Let me approach this problem from a different angle.
I have used a lot of ROM since I have this beauty.
What I would like is an option to install softkeys on any ROM.
You probably used ROMs that come with this feature out of the box.
What I want is to be able to install, flash, enable it if we can.
I do not know why can't we have this, is it a feature problem, the ROM I am using can't be modded this way or no offense, is it the Developer's lack of knowledge in this matter or what else?
So please, I just want to understand this if I can't have what I want then why is that? Just a simple answer.
But if I could do it, please direct me to the correct post.
Thanks a lot.
To search the HD2 formus specifically, click on the link in my signature.
As far as I know, you can enable soft keys on any ICS an JB ROMs. On lower, you may be able to find that option under "Cyanogen Settings" if you have a cm ROM(GB).
Otherwise, use any of the softkeys apps available like "zMooth" (this is not the best, but it's what came to my mind now)
Thanks for your reply Marvlesz.
The problem is that my ROM is a Sense UI ROM from Boxmax.
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256423
So this is a GB ROM, not ICS or JB.
I am using zMooth but that is not the same as real softkeys.
So I am still waiting for a complete answer why is this not possible in my case.
A quick search on that thread, and this came up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33147402&postcount=2826
Sorry, I don't use softkeys and I'm not knowledgeable in them.
Edit: A more general search gave this: http://androidandsandu.blogspot.com/2012/03/how-to-add-virtual-softkeys-navigation.html
Well as I see it it can't be made.
That is why Boxmax didn't implement it in his ROM's.
These ROM's are 2.3.5 and your 2nd links post says it needs 2.3.6
So thanks a lot for your help.
If anyone else comes up with an idea I hope they gonna share it here.
Also, use "navigation bar" and / or "nav bar" in your search term, and you may get different results to try.

Or, you can try "Button Savior" from Google Play..

Sorry, but button savior is not an option.
What I really would like is the buttons to be placed at the bottom of the screen, as part of the sistem.
Like the ones you can see in many ICS ROM's.

Sorry, I have no idea what you mean - perhaps you could explain in your native tongue?
You seem to be looking for the 3 soft keys on the bottom on a sense rom. Did I misunderstand?
I don't really know why you cannot use CM type navigation nor do I understand why Button Savior will not work for you. BS could place 3 or 4 or 5 buttons on the bottom, hide them or not, in different styles. I take it you have not actually tried it, right? Whatever.. Good luck in your search!
It is how you said it. I am looking for the 3 soft keys on the bottom of the screen but what I want is to be as it is in that screenshot.
Part of the sistem, not a 3rd party app.
The difference is that a 3rd party app is going to hover on the sistem UI and what I showed you is part of the ROM so it has its own space down at the bottom so anything else in the ROM's UI is resized so the softkeys can fit in.
Do you understand me now?
Nontheless, thanks for your help.
AW: [Q] Softkeys to save the hardkeys?
Hi,
I don't know if the following tip works with you ROM... try it... I use Xylos great ROM "PACman" and both works..
Enable Navigation Bar:
Use following settings:
ROM Control -> Navigation Bar -> Navigation Bar width = more than 0dp
In some ROMs, you may do it in one click. Add only a shortcut to the home screen: Shortcuts -> AOKP Actions -> Toggle Navbar.
Cheers
Klaus

In short I don't think it's possible.
Softkeys were introduced into AOSP from honeycomb onwards as they were bring out devices (at that time tablets) without hard keys, with the softkeys being turned on/off with one line in build.prop. There are some gingerbread builds that have a form of softkeys, but these are all CM7 (calling it something like tablet tweaks), and this was done by the Cyano Devs by taking some of the honeycomb code and baking it into the system. Sense builds especially gingerbread ones I don't think will see softkeys as part of the system. Although feel free to prove me wrong and point out a GB Sense ROM (for any device) that has softkeys.
find build.prop and add the line
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
at the end.
Google 'editing build.prop'

Yes, I see why you are looking for that. It is interesting that I was looking for the opposite - a third party app - for essentially the same but opposite reasons: when the keys took a permanent portion of screen real estate some apps didn't work because they expected the full screen. Everything worked with the addon app.
We each have different needs and wants I suppose.

Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together. (via Tapatalk)
Well I had 2 ROM which hosted from start the softkeys at the bottom.
I only had 2 problems.
One was IGO Primo which couldn't be used in landscape mode and the other one was Swype which after each reboot said that the resolution is unknown but it was still working.
All the games and full screen apps worked fine for me the ROMs were fast and reliable.
What I needed was Sense. And as I can see no Sense ROM has softkeys and I know now why.
HypoTurtle explained it.
But we can still hope to a solution but right now I am gonna stick to 3rd party apps.
So thanks a lot again for the tips and help.
Not really what you were asking but Button Saviour works good for me. Same here about only seeing the buttons when you want and no permanent screen area loss. My 2c

The animation effect of the recent apps button stutter.

Hi guys,
I found that my nexus 4 when pressing the recent apps button on the navigation bar to call up the recent apps list, the animation effect of that button looks stutter.
For example, when I using the browser and I want to switch to the message app, I press the recent apps button, after I release the button the disappear of the press effect is not smooth. Have anyone also face this problem? Or are there any solution of this problem?
I have already tried to wipe my phone and flash custom rom but the problem still there.
Sorry for my poor Engilsh Please help...

It not happen all the time but quite a lot. I have try stock, CM, AOKP, the problem still here.
Even there is only one app opened.
I took a video of the button, you can see that the smoothness difference between the home button and the recent apps button...
When my finger leave the button the glow effect delay quite a lot compared to the home button.

Screen can be turned off by touching cornor once in stock. Why not in custom ROMs?

I thought that shortcut to turn off the screen by touching the corner once is highly desirable when I can't reach the power button because the phone is lying on the table. Yes, I am that lazy.
Yet, none of the custom ROMs I tried carries that shortcut. Instead, I have to touch the narrow status bar twice in order to turn off the screen. More often than not, I end up touching the clock which appears when I pull down the status bar and, apparently, when I touch the bar. This mistake opens the time and date setting and leads to me shouting and picking up the phone from the table and squeeze the power button angrily.
Is anyone missing that shortcut?

No. I remember specifically liking this one stock function, otherwise the stock ROM sucks.
But my LG G2 is a Korean version.
If you use AOKP you can just put a power button on the navbar and turn it off there, done.
Otherwise, there are other methods posted in this very forum. You didn't look.

I don't use AOKP and I know there are other methods, but I want that particular method.
It's very neat, never misfire, invisible(until touched). Also it is a stock function(at least in the Korean version), therefore I wonder why doesn't custom ROMs include that which quite caters to G2.

I'm on verizon stock, no such functionality and I have not read mention of it anywhere. I imagine if there were a spot where a single touch would shut off the screen it would be too easily triggered alllllll the time. Perhaps if you take a backup and flash back to stock you could demo this for better understanding?
Im on 100% stock TMo and I don't have this function. Double tap to turn screen off works fine for me though.
This rom can do it. One touch on the top right corner and it turns off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673143
The guy decided to remove it though for the other updates. I have V4.0 and have not left it for the sake of this feature.
Yes. You can actually switch off the screen by double tap anywhere in the status bar. I've tried all area and it just works! By default you need to be on homescreen to do this, but I think as the status bar was part of it, that why it works.
