Ok. I'm VERY green when it comes to anything Android. I'm a recent Apple converter!
I'm just getting used to how things are with Android and I'm anxious to understand what the capabilities are after you've rooted your tablet.
I "jailbroke" my iPad 2, so I'm familiar with what the idea is of "rooting" I suppose. Problem is, I can't seem to find anything available for the GT-6810 (wifi only) version of the Galaxy Tab 7.7
I "rooted" the device and installed Superuser. Now what? How do I start customizing and making this tablet run smoother / faster?
I'm sorry if there's 1000 questions like this, but I really am trying to learn and google hasn't helped me much other than to direct me to this site
Hope you all can help shed some light on a few of my questions.
I also came from an iPad2 but this is an ideal size for me. As more people acquire the 7.7 more Devs will come on board and develop Roms. Nothing available at the moment but they will come. Mine is rooted also with CWM and ready to flash the first Rom for the 6810. Am running a few rooted apps like Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, Cache Cleaner NG, Mobile Odin and Honeybar etc. Have a look around the Sub Forums on XDA with other Tabs and android phones and see whats happening. Enjoy your Tab.
I have the P6800, but no matter, I'll get you a tutorial up in a little bit. In the mean time, have a look at me messing around with my 7.7 on ADW EX! Check out my other videos too!
I'll post a tutorial on how to get your 7.7 (WiFi and/or 3G) working as smoothly as that soon!
really look forward with your tutorial Jade Eyed Wolf
wow that video looks awesome! it'd be wonderful to see a walkthrough on how you did that ...
Right now I'm running into a problem though. I tried to wipe and restore to default and after the wipe, I go through the initial setup where I select United States + English, then setup wifi and confirm google settings and I get an error that shows ...
Sorry!
The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I get only two options, force close and report.
I would post a picture of the message but this site won't let me because I'm new.
How do I fix this?
Just got my 6800. Gorgeous screen.
I've rooted, and apparently flashed CVM recovery via Odin (I'm downoload a tweaded ROM now, but the server is so slow, will open in 2hs..).
However, I can't seem to boot into CVM. The combination seemed to change a bit since I flashed root, and I can't figure out which is which.
1. Stock tablet, to get into stock recovery, power button+vol. up. Then let go power when you see the logo. Easy.
2. After root, the way to get into stock recovery is not volume+up, now it's volume down? Why? Am I wrong?
3. After CVM, all bets are off. I tired power+vol up; power+vol down; nothing. I'm stuck at this point. I'll figure out soon I hope.
Edit: never mind, I must have been doing something wrong. Power+vol down is stock, Power+vol up is CVM.
Cheers,
The wait is over!
Thanks so much Jade!
Does anyone have any recommendations for some cool or useful apps, paid or free?
What about any "bloatware" on the 7.7 that can be removed to make the device run faster or make space? Are any of the widgets or programs on the 7.7 known for slowing down the tablet and shouldn't be used?

Hi everyone.
Id like to start a thread where we collect, post and discuss all known individual tweaks and changes that can be made to the Galaxy Tab in order to gain performance and stability.
My experience with the Galaxy Tab has been similar to my latest phone, an HTC HD2. When I got the HD2 about one year ago, I positively hated it... slow, unstable, all sorts of problems, lags, crashes... its the way most of the hardware today is released. One year later, my HD2 has become the most amazing machine I've ever owned. From pushing it 1.6GHz stable, to tweaking registry, XML files, services and making everything work well. I remember not being able to watch smooth video on the HD2 to being able to watch flawlessly 720p content and going from the extreme of detesting the phone to loving it.
It was with the HD2 I discovered Android and fell in love with it. Since I have now two HD2s I have one with an SD ROM version of Gingerbread (that I can dual boot still from Windows Mobile) and a Froyo NAND. I run Android on the HD2 much much much faster and smoother than on the Galaxy Tab, that I also hated when I bought it a few weeks and that am starting to like after getting to know it, a new ROM, apps, etc. Even at 1GHz stock the HD2 with Froyo is vastly faster, smoother, more responsive and better to use. The approach d like to do as far as tweaking the Galaxy Tab is the same as I did for the HD2 with Windows Mobile, that is, install the best/fastest ROM I can, delete and remove all stuff I don't need and then tweak what's left.
The tweaks I've done so far on the Galaxy are simple but have made a huge difference. Id like with this thread to be able to collect individual tweaks and post them all here to share with everyone.
Im using Roto JMI Pre-Rooted Firmware v2 which was the main step after getting rid of the stock Samsung Rom that is nothing but a collection of problems.
The first thing I learned with this Tab is that WHATEVER IS ON YOUR HOME SCREENS THAT MOVES, IS BAD! Forget about having ANY type of apps or widgets that do any type of refresh, including stuff running on the upper task bar if they change icons or the move around… that mean a CPU cycle and refresh each time and there goes the tab's performance and battery life. The same goes for any type of Live Wallpaper. Beautiful but deadly. Never touch them!
- So, after a new ROM, the first thing I did was changing the file system to EXT4. This is the SINGLE BEST THING you can do to radically improve the performance of the Tab. Its extremely easy to do and the step-by-step instructions are as follow:
- Make sure you have an miniSD Card in with plenty of available space (it will be used automatically to backup your system during the conversion process)
- Get p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar (the EXT4 Conversion Kernel)
- Connect the Tab in Downloading Mode to your PC via USB, start Odin3 1.7 and load the Kernel (click on the PDA button and select the p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar and make sure PDA stays ticked after selecting the file).
- UNTICK Re-Partition check box and make sure the only boxes ticked are:
Auto Reboot
F. Reset Time
The PDA tickbox
- Click start and wait for PASS! (it will show highlighted green or Yellow on Odin)
- Now the Tab will restart and get stuck on the Samsung loading screen. This is normal. Turn it off by holding the power button for 5 seconds.
- Turn on the Tab again on into RECOVERY mode (Press Volume UP and Power On at the same time) and the EXT4 conversion will start automatically. The process will take up to one hour depending on how much stuff you have on your Tab. It took about 10 minutes on mine because I have a fresh install of Roto JMI v2.
- Once finished, click "Reboot System Now" (by pressing the power button).
- The reboot may take a while first time so be patient!
- Done!
- After that, the first tweak I did was to get rid of all my favorite widgets that moved around… net meter, news, weather and all these beautiful things KILL the Tab. Equally I had a CPU meter on the tray refreshing every 2 seconds and it took me a while to figure out that was the reason why every 2 seconds the system would stutter, whether watching a movie or browsing the web. So, out!
- Next was to install SetCPU under the ON DEMAND setting, minimum around 750MHz and maximum 1000MHz (unfortunately only with a custom Kernel you can go higher, currently up to 1.4GHz but not full stable and with lots of issues pending so I don’t recommend it)
- My following step was to get rid of the stock Samsung Homescreen (that is a resource hog and slow as hell) and replace it with a new one. I've tried them all and am making no recommendation here but the one that works for me and is by far the best IMO is LauncherPro. This single app makes using the Tab a whole better experience.
- Next was to disable the USELESS and (resource pig) Gallery and replace it with an app called QuickPic that is blazing fast (actually instant) and simply amazing to browse and view all media on the Tab.
- Next was to greatly improve the poor native GPS reception by replacing high performance files and drivers from the Orange Rom P1000JHKA1 that seems to work on all versions of the Tab, as originally posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922692
- With SystemApp Remover 4.12 I have disabled all system apps and services I don’t need (BE VERY CAREFUL AND DON'T REMOVE ROM APPS YOU WILL NEED). I have actually deleted some from ROM (Root access required of course), this includes useless stuff like STK Service starting every time, most of the Samsung stuff that I really don’t care for and just about all apps I know for sure I will never open a single time. Now, its important to understand if these apps are removed they will be removed PERMANENTLY from ROM so to get the back a hard reset will not be enough, you'll have to fully flash the ROM again. For most system apps I don’t use but am not sure, I use a different option and that is to simply disable them. In my case this includes all Bluetooth stuff (I never use it and even if it's off the Services are still running robbing performance and memory) and apps like the built-in Browser, Email and Messaging that suck and that I replaced with better apps. Its always a safer bet, at least initially to disable the apps you don’t need that uninstall them because at least you can go back and change your mind This is one area where Id like to learn more. There are many background services that I don’t know what they do and if they can be disabled or not. If someone knows what each one does and the safety of getting rid of them OR NOT, it would be great to post it here!
- Them, with Startup Auditor 2.3.2 I have disabled all unnecessary apps that start automatically every time the Tab boots so I don't have excess applications starting up that are not needed. Some I configured to be killed AGAIN if the system tries to restart them later after the boot-up
- Using Task Manager 1.0.7 and letting always run on background, I have configured all apps that I don’t need running to be auto-killed every time the phone goes to stand-by (screen off). This saves me lots of memory and CPU time on apps that I am actually not using.
- Finally, I monitor what is going on with an app called CPU Usage Timeliness Free 1.7.1.0 and use it to see EXACTLY which applications are using CPU cycles and interfering with performance. With it I have found that on my Tab I have an unsolved problem that is using over 100MB of memory and non-stop CPU usage between 15% and 45% of something called SECURITY STORAGE. I have no idea what it does. It can't be disabled and I don’t know where all the activity comes from. If someone know more about this and how to fix it, that will be great. Most of the performance issues I have on my Tab come from this Service that I don’t know how to tame. Surely, we can find a solution.
The system background services is one area where I'd like to know one by one, what each service does and if we need them or not, if it can be tweaked, disabled or deleted. Below is a complete list of the services I have safely disabled so far that have given me great performance boosts and with no negative issues on the system (IN BOLD), and OTHERS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT (not bold). Please note these are background services that start automatically. The changes made to the disabled apps/services is that they are reverted to ON-DEMAND so they all still work perfectly.

Originally with my Tab I was getting Quadrant below 600 on average. Now, its always over 1900. This is not a "little" improvement, this is amazing upgrading. But id like this to be a starting point to learn and share more ways with everyone we can all share on things we can do to make the Tab as good as it was intended to be for everyone
Cheers!
1.4 oc is stable, and doesn't have any issues for alot of users.
all the things you disabled are all the things i use every day lol
never the less, good post, im going to use a couple apps you mentioned.

The first block of disabled items (in bold) from CALENDAR to WORLD CLOCK are disabled start-ups but the apps works as usual. It just frees resources not required on boot till you actually start the application when you want.
The second block from Bluetooth Services to Voice Search are all disabled as I use none of those. Items disabled can be restarted again at any time upon activating them follwing a reboot, while items deleted (like Samsung Apps and STK) are gone forever.
Ive never flashed a ModaCo Kernel and got lots of feedback regarding probelms with 1.4OC. Do you have any issues at all or none? We are using different ROMs... What Quadrant do you get currently?
Cheers
Thank you for your post.
You have solved many of my questions. Also I am User of HD2 and had the same impressions, but now with Android Nand everything was great, also started to love it.
As for GTAB'll make those adjustments you suggested, some will not disable because I use Bluetooth as an example.
Any news please keep posting.
Success!

So far the oc is good, things load a little faster, especially nfs shift. Last run of quadrant was 2300-2400.
Ill try it again later after these optimizations and see how it goes, a member here has gotten 3000.
Having done nothing but root, my tab gets about 1000 quadrant score. I have tried setcpu using on demand and it actuall has made my tab worse. I am very hesitant to flash anything on the tab. It seems very involved and complicated. I have an HD2 as well and have been flashing since Android was on SD. That process is simple. Everything I have read about flashing things to the tab doesn't look that way. I really havent had any issues with my tab as stock other than a bit laggy at times. I would like to hear more about all of this. The oppinions I have read are either do it or don't do it. There are more problem posts after attempting to flash than there are good ones where it worked. I really could care less about a quadrant score to be honest, but I would like to have a faster smoother running tab. I really dont care about making calls on it either. Thats why I have a phone. JMO. I think part of the issue in this thread is that there are Euro and USA version which are completely different and require different roms and such.
I have been reading and lurking in the tab development thread for a while now and am not impressed with any of it yet. Maybe someone could shed some light on things and change my mind.

I agree. The process of flashing the Galaxy is much more dauting than anything on the HD2. I suggest you do the EXT4 file converstion. All you need is follow the step by step I wrote above. It makes a huge difference. As for everything else, I too hold off to do too much flashing. The ROM I use now is great and lighter than stock but your seems to work well so keep it. For me when a ROM is good I just use it. When I bought the HD2 I flashed it 2 times with a custom ROM till i found one that worked for me and kept it for 8 months. But backing up and restoring WinMo is much easier... on Androind its all more complicated if you dont know what you are doing. Disable some start-ups on your unit, convert the file system to EXT4 and make sure you have nothing on your home screen doing a lot of refreshing and your tab will work great

Is everything working 100% on that ROM? I do not want any ROMS that are having problems.
I too am not impressed with anything that us out yet...seems like any ROM process is tedious and complicated.
Glad the thread starter modified his tab to his liking, but what's the point of having it if you need to drastically change everything. I have a rooted DInc and not use any of things......didn't really see a performance gain with set CPU.
I'm going to continue waiting for something more reliable and use my tab the way it was meant to be, with all its hardware and widgets.

Thank you for your detailed post. While I agree with you that the stock SGT rom and browser suck but where do you think the JMI, JMF, JMx ROMs coming from?
Most ROMs I've seen (except for CM) are based from some sort of Jxx
Please keep the tweak posts going. Good stuff and thanks!

Not impressed with all the problems being posted just tring to flash it, and how complex it is to do it. Guess that's what I meant. Flashing the hd2 is a very simple process. Tab is not

My boy,
Only getting my Galaxy tomorrow but looking through threads on my favorite forum.
And guess the first one I happen into... I will follow avidly.
Hi dubie76,
Try an app called OCLF 2.0 on the Market. It is a Lag fix app for the Samsung Galaxy S which also works on the Tab.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rc.QuickFixLagFixR2
You have to install EXT2 tools and then install one click lag fix, both are done within the app.
I had this on my Tab before flashed to a custom ROM. The tab was much faster and did not have and lag compared to stock, the Quadrant score was around 1900.
Also you can uninstall the modifications in the app and easily reverse back to stock. The only disadvantage is you will loss about 800mb of internal memory (the 2Gb space), so if you don't have much space left, you will need to uninstall some apps and reinstall them once you applied the lag fix.
P.S. thanks to OP for the SystemApp Remover & Startup Auditor suggestion.
Custom ROMs?
Hi everyone!
Consider this:
The locked GTab (in standby) on an original ROM with a connected to it BT headset wakes up after replying a call from BT and can potentially have anything pressed as being in the bag due to its size...
My point is that there is NO fix for this on XDA therefore why should I expect any significant advancements from a custom ROM if such simple things cannot be fixed on Android.
My personal view is that Android is unfortunatelly not as flexible for adjustments as WinMo (i have HD2 as well with a wonderful custom Artemis ROM).
I've tried two Roto ROMs on my GT and they havent provided any noticeable enhancements in performance to my eye (perhaps some rating went up - I dont care about tech stats). I reverted to stock ROM P1000XWJMI that works as fast for a "regular user".
I am sad to resume my experience with hacking the GT as not worth it: you get serious risk of getting the GT bricked (much more complicated than with WinMo), loose the warranty and are open for instability and sudden incompatibilities with crashes.
On the third custom ROM installation attempt I was stuck on a black screen after powering on (stuck on the bootloader!) and couldnt initiate flash for multiple times. I was shocked and very nervous. Thats when the stock ROM saved my ass and I am not willing the risk of playing around any more with non-firmware ROMs for Android GT.
Regarding the alternative screen lockers available - please do not suggest Screen Suite (the best of the worst) and things like No-Lock (to get rid of the original locker) as they all mess up once in a while (tested) with the default ROM settings and the original core locker.
PS
In my view the best thing we can and should do first of all is to COMPLAIN to SAMSUNG Tech Support and Software Developers (I did twice already).
If every one of us from theese GTab forums would do this they would definitely get faster with resolving issues.

I'm getting a Tab 10.1 and was wondering a few things:
-If I don't like the Samsung apps(for example, the TW launcher), can I install the apks from a Xoom sys dump?
-If I wanted to install an app that has no tablet version yet (say through an apk) would it blow up to 10.1 inch size?
-And also, how easy is it to get back to stock after a complete ****up, brick and everything (that's on of the reasons the Moto Milestone is still my primary phone)
Thanks 4 the help guys, any answers are appreciated a lot.
Ev
I'm not sure about the Xoom apks, but I've seen that people have been able to successfully run the ASUS Transformer apks on other tablets.
As far as the apps goes, I think there are two ways they are handled:
A) They are tablet compatible, and will take up the whole screen like a tablet app. You may end up with a lot of blank space as they will retain the same layout (and icon size) as the phone version, but in all in all very useful.
B) Some apps aren't tablet compatible yet. This open in a tiny window on your screen (the rest of the screen is black) about the same size they would on your phone.
I think it's fairly trivial to update apps so they handled in way A, but I've come across one or two apps that haven't been updated yet.
Thank you!
Thanks for the answers, that clears up a few things.
I'm still going to have to trawl the forums for a way to get back to stock if all else fails, but u answered all my other questions, so thanks again!!

I have quite a few non tablet apps currently running on my tab.
Many of them take up the entire screen with no issues.
The only way I can tell they aren't official tablet apps is the location of the menu button.
Apps optimized for the tablet will have the menu button in the upper right corner, while non official apps will have them at the bottom.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
all apps will scale to full screen if you turn off compatibility mode. I'm told that some apps will crash if you disable compatibility mode but I have never experienced this.
Hey man , as far as things go with recovering .. the root is a fairly easy process , and you can recover with Odin like Galaxy S phones .. I havent HAD to do it yet , but using it was part of how i rooted . And i have a Galaxy S Fascinate , and Odin can recover ANYTHING as far as it is concerned , I cant imagine it being much different on the 10.1 tab . At least im hoping not , as that factored into my decision in buying one .
Im working on some new optimized apps and a theme now .. hopefully we can get them up here on xda when completed .
Hey all, I'm visiting from the Evo 4G forum. I'm running Team Xron and SwampGoblin Droid X Port. I must say, I am impressed, I have heard negative things about Blur. But after using the device and the ROM, I am impressed at how it works and runs.
Back to topic, I am interested in what files/APKs are safe to remove. I am mostly interested in the System apps, but other files safe to delete would be nice too. I have experimented before, but I get occasional problems, such as when I click on a contact it closes. So I have come before the Droid X-ers for your help.
So, simply put, what files/APKs are safe to delete? I am running Gingerblur, system version 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US build number 4.5.1_57_DX5-3
Thanks ahead for the help!
To Be Honest with you, for the gingerbread update it seems that motorola incorporated everything together. I have had to SBF back to froyo about 3-4 times, because I've tried to delete a multi-tude of different native apps / system files. If you delete social stuff, it kills contacts, if you delete other items, your screen goes black and you cant do anything lol. just leave it stock untill another good rom comes out for it.
Ah well, the ROM is pretty slimmed down anyways. I just wanted to get rid of email and stuff that I don't use. Thanks for the help, root on!
It can be very frustrating to figure out which Blur apps do what.
I froze about ten of them and would later find that something like airplane mode is broken, or that adding a contact causes a force close.
I wish Motorola were straightforward about the purpose of apps. Trashing cardock shouldn't make me wonder if anything else will go missing with it.
hi yall,
i bought the phone used, and its running 2.2.1 froyo, ever since i got the phone last night ive been here reading everything about it, since im new to android, its very confusing for me.
(1) i wasnt sure if it was rooted, but there was a superuser icon in the menu ,so i went root it again and did allow non market app from super1click. when it was doing allow non market app, the phone frozed , i had to just take off the battery for it to restart, then did the allow non market app again, it was fine the second time. after this i found that the phone is very slow for 20-30 sec when just turned on. perhaps it has nothing to do with rooting and allow non market app, the phone is just like that. anyways is this normal? would rooting 2 times make it slow after power on?
(2) im very interested in installing the MiUI or CM7 to my bravo, i have the factory usb driver installed, and the phone is rooted . what are the other steps to get it work?
i would really appreciate if you have any input,
thanks in advance.
Ok. Get you started then you will need to get what is called the LIFESAVER to me. The Stock .sbf file for just in case times. Next before anything else you need a program called RSD LITE. It's made by Motorola (correct if wrong). On your phone you'll need an app called SndInitDefy_1.4_2.apk. Put it on you mem card and install it on your phone (you did push the allow non market apps button in S1C right?). Then look around for the rom you want to use. Myself and several other people are working on a CM7 rom for the Bravo with a working STOCK camera. The easy fixes are using another 2 or 3 camera apps. After all said and done follow the instructions on sndInitDefy_1.4_2.apk or 2ndInitDefy_1.4_2.apk whatever the name is in the app drawer. After that put the rom you want on your sd card. Not in a folder or anything just the card. Reboot into 2nd recovery and wipe your data, cash and dalvik, then install the new rom. NOTE: Most issues occur because you didn't wipe. NOTE 2: You have to use the Vol. UP and DOWN on the side of the phone to select things and the power on the top to do it while in 2ndInit.
And if you would like to know I was writing this on 2 hours of sleep like 24 hours ago while drinking cold coffee and eating something I can't figure out what it is but reminds me of tacos and nachos. Back of fridge find.
Forgot about your first question, sorry, I haven't really noticed any speed changes before or after root to me. Could be another app you have that runs at boot? If you have any troubles just PM me and I'll get to ya. My major project went to the back burner for the moment. I do have an app for you if you want to try to get a little more speed out of it. Like I said just PM me.
what are the apps that increases speed? is there any way i can delete the junk apps came with the phone? there are 50 of them more than 40 is useless. lol
thanks a lot for taking your time responding my post, i do really appreciate it.
after i run launcher pro, the phone have a speed increase, faster then before. everything is normal now.
i noticed that there are a lot of versions of RST lite, i gusse i should have the latest one. right?
i kinda need the camera for school projects, plus there are still things i need to learn about so i will be doing later, i think pretty soon you guys would know how to make the stock camera work, lol
I use RSD Lite 5.0. Google it and it's easy to find. Camera issue has work around and to rid yourself of the bloatware you need to be rooted (which you are) and look on the market for an app called SuperManager. It may have alot more than what you need but it's free. When you install it open and go to it's settings and mark the box for root. Then you can use it to uninstall your bloatware. I would keep google maps and the navigation app though. I've never had a use for any of the news, weather or news & weather stuff. Just slows your phone and uses your data. If you want a true FM Radio for your phone see below. It's a little better then the AT&T Radio. DO NOT UNINSTALL ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE AN APP! You will see things that seem like doubles of stuff. FM Radio is one of these. One is AT&T's app the other is like the driver for ANY FM Radio app to work. Just let me know if you get stuck. Also here is a great overclock app. Don't go over 1 ghz for too long though. Stock is 800Mhz. It's not made by myself.
when i tried to scan the barcode and download overclock and FM files, it keeps giving me a message of
Download unsuccessful
Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone
i downloaded the files to my computer, everytime i try to put them in the phone by usb cable it shows cant copy, i must did something wrong.
oh, BTW the supermanager is awesome
The old school ways still work for things like this. Take out your memory card and just copy files to it with a card reader. You might have filled up the card already? I can't put anything else on my wifes card but she just has a 2gig. She has alot of music and the videos are taking up alot of room. She's still stock but she does use overclock and undervolt to get a little more speed and save the battery. The QR codes I don't think they work for everyone. Search the market for an app named "Sideload Enabler for Bravo". It's free and so you can make sure you can sideload apps. Gives you the checkbox under settings too! + in my book. Can't remember if it requires root or not..... I'll post the link in a min.

Yea! I just learned Script! (If the link works) It does!

ALL THINGS NOTE 4!
INFO, NEWS, MODs, CHATTER!
COME AS YOU ARE AND PLAY BY THE RULES!
ROOT STATUS: We have obviously gained Temp Root gifted to us via KingRoot. Which comes with its own set of concerns on security, personal info, etc.. We currently have several devs working on making this "Perma-Root" We have already worked on getting rid of KingUser/KingRoot and replaced it with SuperSU. AWESOME! However with Write Protection enabled we are still unable to gain a Permanent Root Status. We lose root during a reboot which many of us know is needed by many root applications to function properly ie: XPOSED
I will be sure to update this post as soon as any changes or news comes out!
Please stay tuned! Thank You!
Alright ladies and gents! As you all know Temp Root is available through KingRoot. But that does come with its own set of risks and bugs.
Please use that at your own risk.
We have a way to get rid of KingRoot and utilize SuperSU thankfully!
If you have jumped ship from Kit Kat to Lollipop at this point root is only available on KK
Have no fear tho! Rolling back is a simple feat!
Here are your steps incase you are unaware.
1) Download N910VVRU1ANJ5 full firmware image https://www.dropbox.com/s/73ti6825921i7ld/N910VVRU1ANJ5_FullFirmware.tar.md5.7z?dl=0 via my DropBox account
2) Download Odin https://www.dropbox.com/s/89m7v5dgjspmxwx/Odin.zip?dl=0 via my DropBox account
3) Please backup any info on your device. No one is held responsible for your data except you!
4) Be sure all needed drivers are installed on your PC for your device
5) Fire up Odin and boot your device into download mode.
Either power down phone and once powered off press and hold Home+Vol Down+Power Button and release once it boots
or in an adb shell prompt enter "reboot download"
6) In Odin click the "AP" button and browse to the NJ5 image you downloaded and select open.
DO NOT CHECK OR UNCHECK ANY OPTIONS (AP WILL BE AUTO CHECKED ONCE YOU APPLY THE IMAGE)
Simply click start!
7) Once Odin has completed its work your phone will reboot. And yes your device will bootloop at the Verizon screen. You must pull the battery to stop this.
8) Once you re-install battery boot into Recovery (Home+Vol Up+Power)
arrow down to format data/factory reset
press power to confirm and select YES on the next screen
Once done Reboot your phone. And your BootLoop issue will no longer be.
CONGRATS! You are now back on Kit Kat and ready to root!
Please feel free to message me on hangouts: fredsinzjr

[Guide] Enable Air View and Air Gestures -- Thread by @Vichenec
I encourage you read this thread! If you go about installing Nova Launcher and following these steps there are a ton of features built into the settings that 1) are not enabled and 2) some of them work and some dont! SO you could easily turn on AirView and other like settings! Verified to work but just as the thread states some do now. The air gestures do function in apps such as Gallery and the like!

Your correct if you are in fact powered off and then hold your buttons. Doing it this way you start your key combination while booted up and hold it thru the reboot until you see the menu.

I'm sure everyone had noticed this, but it was a bit of a "good" shock to me. Action memo (the stand alone app) seems to be no more, and it's integrated in s note. I was and still am extremely annoyed because my old action memos, I had to "try" and find a way to export them. Now, thanks to a bright, but late light bulb, Samsung has finally made this sensible decision.
The interface is a little different than in previous versions to view your memos. Before, there was a list "button" next to the link to action button. But now you have to go to the options menu (the three dots on the right) and select the "view action memos list" option.
I noticed some stuff with screen shots also, but can't remember off the top of my head..

Yea the whole not having a physical menu button has driven me a little insane! I have the Tab S 8.4 so i was kind of prepared for the button change up but still seemed odd. Im growing accustomed to it. Maybe if its still an issue after we obtain root we can change the mapping of the physical buttons.
Added a link to a thread for the stock firmware images! Made by @hsbadr
Be sure to drop him a thank you for posting links up for us!
Were seeing the normal usual topics develop which is a good sign!
It was a little shock at first also for me, but I've actually adapted and like it better. The funny thing I realized almost immediately was that I never used that button much. So the long press to get the menu, but at the same time, the app drawer is cool..
Lol, I'm actually getting to the point I think where I don't want to root. It sounds really crazy for me, but I was talking to my lady today and telling her how smooth and much I'm enjoying this phone "just the way it is". I don't recall honestly being this satisfied in a few years.
We'll see, but I like it a ton dude! And I'm really in shock myself how much..

I couldn't agree more! To me root would purely be a nice benefit. Not so much a necessity. Of course I'd look forward to some themeing especially if we can get a rom much like Alliance. Just loaded down with customizations!
And of course getting getting rid of or freezing bloat would be nice!
Something I noticed today I've been able to get almost 2 days out of one charge. I don't get much usage while at work but today (yes it was a work day) it only lasted me about 14 hours. Big difference! Hoping the phone was just being needy and hitting up something to cause it to chew up battery. I'm going to install gsam and start paying attention to what's sucking it up.
Also has anyone gotten ballsy and tapped on the security update notification that pops up once and a while?

I concur to be honest.. And maybe I'm just getting old, but I primarily would want root would be to, like yourself, just remove apps. That's about it.. Lol.. Themes, Hmmnn, not so much anymore to be honest. Lol, really, I got a bit burned out on the 3 with roms. Honestly, if Eclipse had continued to be developed, I don't think I would have ever tried even alliance. But yes, the features are cool.
And I just posted in the battery thread, this thing is awesome! Not just for the longevity, but more important, the fast charging.. I'm probably either wishing for an in car fast charger(that would be my choice) or a second battery and external charger. Lol, just for accessories.. But I really, really do love this thing. They really did it right on this version, and I was really not excited for the regular note.
And then this thing is so damn fast that it's crazy.. Lol
