i have been rambling in the metrodroid for way too many hours for questions on unrooting and ruu problems.
Maybe try this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337713

It's kind of hard to tell exactly what it is you were requesting, hope that helps.

I flashed nv items that are located on a cdma-ware window (just click save or read and them zip and send it )with nv items from whotterrabbit website(it gives important informationfor meteopcs users) and can't get my phone off analog b. So I was thinking i needed to flash nv items from any other phone that was the same model as mine, to get back to being able to make calls. Without going the ruu route.
Maybe this link would be better for you.

I put on the proper ruu and all the cdma settings have not changed . My problem is analog b message will not go away & cannot make calls
Just hit the default buttons in qpst if thats what you are using if not just ruu its better that way but if u were to try an nv item flashing use qpst

How do you know, Have you done this before?
did you read that i already did ruu and nothing has changed, not to be rude although so if that "defult" suggestion come from the same knowledge vault as the ruu then maybe its not a good idea.
I have qpst as well, are you saying I can reset my nv items to default meaning like from the factory without flashing them by just clicking " default " button under nv with qpst? i never noticed that on qpst as i dont use it much, although i surly remember seeing the default button on cdma-workshop. would cdma-workshop work to do it as well?
can someone please confirm if you know about such things, does clicking default, reset nv items to out of the box readings? thank you
does it send a command to the phone for the phone to do this task , as i am sure qpst has no information on the phone it self that could input any such items.

i read another person on xda did what i did except he only wrote 4 items mine was 12 and his phone would not boot up anymore so he said he couldnt write the nv items that he backed up and bricked his phone. so i suppose its time to just buy another one and write the stock nv otems from that one since no one seems willing to do it for me.
thanks anyways. well one bro mtezzy said he would once he got the htc from his girl although i jave been in agony in this place.lol without my htc for like 2 weeks now
btw....xda has meteopcs awesomeness ads now! i look forward to using my old cell phone here in the morning
well looks as though i am going to be ad free awesomness! mteezy sent the nv-items and guess what it is fixed now so please stop any and all efforts to send them to your n00b as they have already been repaired and sent like 3 times over (literally , ya see since at first i didnt tell him the range i needed so he sent a few then i asked for more and he sent a few more , then i needed more so he sent more , well should have just asked for them all the first time as i had no idea how many their was to begin with as i am utter n00bed so you kinda get the picture now and well then so now thats all folks!!)
so again you can tell your friends to stop blowin` up my pm box with all these nv-items as now everything is under control ! calm down now ,ok.
I am actually having the exact same issue.... If at all possible may i get these nv items also?

Well I know this has been discussed but never in it's entirety. I would like to put together a how to but won't be able to until my girlfriend signs up for metro. But here's what I got First thing you'll have to get your msl (look in my signature). Second you'll have to get the prl from here (these guys have a pretty extensive list of prls including cricket and so fourth). Place that on the root of your sdcard. On your phones dialer push ##prl# . A menu will come up saying "enter code", enter you msl. Then a menu will come up with one choice "update prl". Click it a new menu will come up called epst. Click on folders and choose sdcard. Now push the back key to get the keypad to go away. there will be a selection with a prl file click that and then press okay. It will go back to the previous menu. Click menu and commit modifications. It will ask if your sure then click ok and then it will reboot. Check your prl to make sure it went through should be good.
Okay gonna post this for now if you already have metro on this phone please do a nandroid and post it and i will do a more thorough guide I'm not done with this by far
Note to self ##data# /dataprofile/dsa server = remove this to stop downloading sprint stuff
so im guessing by far u meant u wouldnt finish this by far
Well I wish this was complete.
dude just go to metro pcs they will do it for u and yes when i was rhinking about doing it he said daTA will work and u qould have to pay the activation fee anyway on your firsts months bill so please stop bumping threads
Thank you captain obvious but if u knew any better you'd know Metro will flash only to enable Phone calls and text, no data.

Just wondering if we can get a list of who is rock solid and when we can start seeing some data sets?
I for one bought HL not for the d20 stuff but for other games like L5R or Palladium and so forth.
Heres hoping.

Ok so i have a question, i have an older sister up in a different state and my dad bought her a brand new epic for xmas. Its not activated yet til she gets it obviously so i was wondering:
1. if i sent it to her rooted so i can give her mobile ap and custom kernal all that fun stuff, will sprint know anything if they are just transfering contacts from her old sanyo pink regular phone?
2. Can it be rooted before activation?
Would Greatly appreciate someones insights,
Thanks

only thing about rooting her device and putting all the cool stuff on it is... she's going to have to do all the updates manually. do you trust your sister to do that? if so, go crazy. i sent my brother a pre rooted EVO and he's still running 2.29something. doubt he'll ever make it because he doesn't have the patience to sit on aim with me while i walk him through it and he's dumb as a brick (too dumb to brick it, even)
butttt i work at a sprint store and i'd ask her about her mod and which one it was.. i wouldn't report her or anything.. in fact, there is no protocol to do so. they just don't support the devices - eg. you wont get her screen replaced if bad software killed it under warranty if they can find evidence of tampering with the software
lol but i would support it. then again, im here

U mean the 2.2 update? i dont think she will care that much honestly.
i know i will tell her how to flash stock stuff and ill do it for her or tell her bf to do the stock flash.
so if she is just getting contacts transfered they shouldnt give her any trouble if its rooted, i mean it will look stock. just have mobile ap on it.

Anyone got any answer about rooting b4 activation? Will it still activate if it's rooted?

There is numerous ones out there just Google transferring phonebook software. I can't remember what I used to have when I worked for T-Mobile something along the lines of Data Pilot I think but don't quote me. Not sure about the rooting question though. I've had the opportunity to root before activating. If you do root before you activate and it does work let me know for future reference please and thank you.
I found it easier to manage my contacts via Google Contacts instead of trying to clean up transferred data from my 4 year old flip phone.
What I did in Google Contacts:
Created a new group labeled "Android"
Cleaned up, added, removed contacts (Initial cleanup took 2 hours, subsequent cleanup is now only 1 minute.)
Assigned the "Android" group to those I wanted in my contact list in the phone.
What I did in the phone itself:
Went into the contact preferences and selected "only show contacts with #s"
Deselected all of the groups from Google Contacts and only selected "Android" to sync
Then I linked Facebook to my phone to allow the auto-sync (for contact photos)
Finally I manually attached FB accounts to contacts that didn't auto-sync
When I want to add a new number, I add it to my Google account from the phone's contact manager, then later just add the "Android" group via the Google Contacts website.
This was the easiest method I found to keep my contact list clutter free, while still utilizing Google Contacts to it's full potential.

You will have to flash a verizon prl. Also make sure the settings in qpst revert back to verizon...especially the ppp configs. If it was properly flashed to cricket, flashing the modem alone won't do it. More them likely, all the settings will have to be corrected.
yep. you will need to enter all the VZN info that was removed to have it hooked up on cricket and you will also have to hope the phone isnt blacklisted on VZN's ESN list. if it is your friend will have a nice android MP3 player that he can play games on.

Yeah...typically phones that nice on cricket have bad esns
Is there a guide somewhere to putting all the VZN settings back in? And he said the guy said the ESN was good.

I'll check to see if I saved a file. Do you have a fascinate?
Don't have it anymore. But try grabbing and flashing this prl. Then *228 to see if it can activate. If it activates but you don't get net or mms, then let me know and I will walk you through it.

Ok...download the samsung drivers and a program called qpst. I hear Build 355 is out haven't had a chance to use that one but should be the same. Anyways, hook up your phone to qpst and switch it to dial up networking. Select add new port and find which port you hooked it up to. Name the port COMX (put the port # where x is). Under label name it usb. Hit enter then find the phone and click it. Then select service programming. Then go to the roam tab and then go down to the send file option select browse and locate the prl and then select flash to phone. Make sure it is a *prl and not a zip. Phone will reboot and then attempt *228. Im not infront of the computer but thats the gist. If you can't get it let me know and I will attempt a complete walkthrough. Im on my phone so it's a wee difficult.

after trying to port a rom from the epic, i realized that i forgot to remove their pst apps so it rewrote some values to my fascinate. calls/sms work but data only works sometimes and reboots the radio often. Im going to try flashing that prl file with qpst. if that doesnt work do you mind walking me through a possible way to fix data?

Depending on what software you're on...dun can be accessed through the wirless network settings or **33284 ( Then enter spc 000000).
And actually I think I just figured out a simple way to get settings back to vzw. use qpst build 355 and input all the correct cdma info for verizon. And hit write to phone. The phones are prewired for three g only through vzw and that build of qpst will not be able to rewrite the settings so upon reboot the original vzw settings and password will reappear.

You can...it's just more work. And depending on the carrier, like sprint, requires you know someone that will add your flashed phone to the database. There are methods...but as they violate certain laws I cannot discuss on this forum. Since the fascinate is a verizon phone it's software is typically already hard wired for big red. So apn and nv values will revert upon incomplete programming. It's rather simple to flash a phone back to verizon.

You can push any prl you want to the phone. Since we have diagnostic access thru *#*#8778#*#* then hit "modem" on the bottom selection. This will allow qpst to recognize it. If on windows 7, go to device drivers and look under "modems" to find your phone. Open properties and look for COM. It will have a number. Then open qpst. Hit "Add Port" and input what COM you saw. Prl will be under "service programming". Hit "write to phone", and finally browse to that .prl file.

WITH BOTH QPST AND CDMA WORKSHOP, I AM ABLE TO READ THE PHONES SETTINGS BUT I CANT WRITE TO IT. woops, sorry bout the caps.
anyway, when i click write, some things write and others dont. then when i click read, the banner is recognized as google even though it reads sprint on my phone still. often time when i click write in cdma workshop, it tells me phone is requesting spc, spc is required.
update: it seems that the sci and access overload class have stuck to the values that i chose. however, the main goal for me is to alter the banner to read 'Google'.
any input is much appreciated. thank you!

extract this and put the eri.xml directly in /data and give it full permissions. If using rootexplorer, check all boxes under permissions. Reboot. Should say "Google" now. lemme know how it goes.

Hack thread
I forgot it in the original post. If you get a minute, could you take a look at it and tell me if it sounds reasonable to you? I have never used QPST. I dl'ed it tonight and looked around a bit. I am pretty much a beginner. Rooted the Droid X. Bought the original droid after the locked bootloader experience. And now the NS4G because the freedom. I was able to unlock and root it -but my 3g speeds are terrible and I was hoping to find a way to increase them. Anyways - you have been very helpful and any more pointers would be great.
thanks
Ok so I got this figured out. Well - I didn't get it figured out. I read some other stuff by people that got it figured out. Here are links to the information...
Warning I was unhappy with the results and when I tried to update my prl from settings (supposedly the solution if you wanted to revert) --it said my prl was successfully updated but the prl version # did not change.
so be careful if you want to do this.
I did this with my Nexus and I did a prl update on the phone, rebooted and the prl didn't change under the "about phone" settings but when I dialed *2 I was back on Sprint's network again. You just need to flash it back manually if you want the numbers to change.
This is a really easy tutorial to help if anybody needs it.
I got the information from different places and used words from
people in this thread, I just refined it a whole lot more...
**The "**" represent tips.**
**I Have attached all the files needed for this tutorial except for the phone drivers
and such. A few prls and notes are avalible to download from this post and all have
been organized in folders and tested by me and all of them work, some better than
others**
**BE CAREFULL, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU SCREW UP BUT IT WORKED FOR ME**
Follow the steps to force roam on Verizon, Using "QPST_2.7_build 323":
(1) ~Dial (*#*#8778#*#*) then change "PDA" to "MODEM" on the bottom selection.~
**This will allow the QPST program to recognize it.**
(2) ~Plug your phone into your computer.~
**Allow a minute or two for your computer to install any drivers for your phone.**
(3) ~Go to the "Device Manager"~
**You can use the Windows Start Menu Search and type "Device Manager", and click on it.**
(4) ~Look under "Ports (COM & LPT)" find "SAMSUNG Mobile Modem Diagnostic
Serial Port (WDM) (COM##) ... The "COM##" write it down, or remember it"~
**If you can't see it in the name, then right click and open "Properties"
and it will say under the "General" tab."**
(5) ~Then open the program "QPST Configuration"~
**It's under the "All Programs" list in the Windows Start Menu, inside the QPST folder.**
(6) ~Click "Add Port" and input the "COM##" you saw and close the window.~
(7) ~Open up "QPST Service Programming"~
**Also under the "All Programs" list in the Windows Start Menu, inside the QPST folder.**
(8) ~Click into the "Roam" tab.
(9) ~Click on "Browse" to get to the "#####.prl" file you downloaded then Click "Open"~
(10) ~click "Write to Phone."~
(11) ~Enter the service code (168132) and click "Ok."~
**At this Point your phone will reboot and you have your new prl.**
(12) ~Dial (*2) press send and listen to who's network your connected to.
(13) ~Dial (*#*#8778#*#*) then change "MODEM" back to "PDA" on the bottom selection.~
(14) ~If you want to go back just download the newest Sprint prl from:
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=eabe29f3770d8d15&id=EABE29F3770D8D15!678
OR,
**You can do a prl update in the phone settings and reboot(Not 100% sure if that works)**
**I have also attached the newest Sprint prl at this time(6/21/2011) feel free to use it**
The stuff below is just for informational purposes.
(BIG WARNING!!!, the Manufacturer reset will erease EVERYTHING!)
**If you want to go back to your old prl DO NOT!! use this method**
{-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------}
To do a manufacturer reset, Dial: (*#*#786#*#*)
To set your preferred network type, Dial: (*#*#4636#*#*)
MSL/Service code: (168132)

Ok, you don't have to ack like I'm a such pain in your tucus, I spent alot of my time trying to type up such a detailed post that wasnt even meant for you but the whole XDA community. Give me more info on your pc, what OS are you running? I'm pretty good at figuring these type of things out, like what drivers are you looking for, are you even rooted yet? Did you even download the Android SDK. You didn't give enough information for me to help you. I want to help you but I don't have to help you! I could be spending time with my family right now but instead I'm trying help one particular ungratefull person. People respond better to humble kindness than to irrational comments. PM me when you get you get some real questions, and information to at least some of my questions.
Thanks, Danny

He's not ungrateful, just frustrated like me and many others. Yes we are rooted, yes we have ADB installed (we unlocked our phones) we just can't get our phones to show up as a modem, no matter what we do.
I'm running windows XP, many are running win7. I have yet to try my win7 PC as a test
I originally used the PDA.net drivers to get ADB to work. I wonder if that is part of the problem?
yea none of us can seem to get step 4 to work

what is the phone supposed to be set to originally?
when i open that its on WCDMA preferred, then it switches to unknown by itself
*edit* i just checked my evo (deactivated) and its set to CDMA auto (PRL)
*edit* so i tried to change it to CDMA auto(PRL) then rebooted and its back to WCDMA preferred
and just how much of EVERYTHING will *#*#775#*#* erase?
*edit* i found out and it did nothing to help
*#*#8778#*#* not working for me after GJR90 update. Just me?
I haven't done a prl hack before, but my prl or profile will not update, everytime time I will update it, it always fails and when prl update fails its a big issue. I dont feel like going to sprint and getting another phone...well.. atleast not yet. so I'm gonna try this method and see if it works. So I was wondering, which prl do you guys use? I've heard some xda members say that when they hacked a prl it didn't give them any service. What specific prl is best?
Sorry for not using paragraphs ..
My data sucks real bad, I'm on 01115. Any suggestions would be good.
Thanks xda members.
Guess they might have changed the dialer codes

Hi everyone,
I've got an ATT I337 running the awesome Hyperdrive ROM version 17.1. Several of us --but clearly not all of us!-- over in that thread have noticed a problem with incoming calls. I think there's a setting somewhere that can fix it, so I'm opening it to a wider audience by posting it here, in hopes someone from this group will know what to tweak.
Here's the specific problem.
If my cell phone receives a call from a known contact "Bob" and Bob's contact info (being a U.S. phone number) is 317-555-1212, so far the phone seems to recognize the call as coming from Bob. However, it reports it as coming from +317-555-1212. When I go into the call log and try to return the call, it dials +317-555-1212, and the extra + causes the system to interpret it as an international call attempt, and the call fails. Cannot be completed as dialed, the message says. If it's an non-contact number, the + is still added. IT's not JUST for contacts.
Let's say Bob leaves a message. The voicemail indicator shows and it says offers to dial *86, the correct access code for voice mail for ATT as I understand it. However, tapping that actually dialed +11 then my ten digit phone number. Call fails.
At the dialpad, pressing and holding 1 to invoke voicemail has the same problem.
In Contacts, contacts are NOT listed with +s, and clicking the call button for them makes them dial OK without a + being prepended.
So, this looks like some international feature is being enabled that I'm not sure how to turn off. Does anyone have any idea how to turn this off? Sorta puts a crimp in the basic phone functionality. Seriously, who actually calls anyone these days? But it would be good to fix.
Please, if anyone has an idea of what might be at the root of this, I would appreciate your help!
Marc
I am confused. Does this only happen on the Hyper rom or all roms for you.
Not sure how anyone else does their contacts. But, I always enter numbers as 1-555-555-5555 even if local.
My voicemail number is set as +15555555555
I never had issues--
I remember some talk of that on Hyper awhile back. But, never paid attention--
Only happens on Hyperdrive. Or at least, I can say I never saw it on stock. Hyper is the only ROM I've actually gotten so far as to run while SIM card is inserted. :good:
My contacts are almost all US based and are just ten digits, no leading 1. I did try editing the contact to my work cell phone by adding a 1 to it, and calling my S4 phone. It still was registered as +317-555-1212 format and return call didn't work.
So, it's not really about the way the contacts are stored, more about how the phone interprets incoming calls.
Try the 1+ and see what happens. Just do a few of your most used numbers to start--
Can you put a different dialer on phone and see

Just edited above, adding 1 to the way contacts are stored doesn't change the behavior. I can certainly try a different dialer and see what happens, but it seems to be based on how incoming calls are interpreted. I'm guessing there's a build.prop item or somesuch that needs a-tweaking.
Marc
so you changed the contact number to 1-555-555-5555 with hyphens
i ran hyper for quite a bit awhile back never any issues. of course could be something new--
i am not thinking rom or a lot more would have issue--
I did some tests.
On the phone in question, I edited the google contact for a test phone number. I then called the phone from that tested phone number.
It didn't matter whether the contact was saved in the formats:
317-555-1212
1-317-555-1212
+1-317-555-1212
+317-555-1212
In all cases, the incoming call was recognized as +317-555-1212, which isn't a valid call-back number, and return calls failed. Since this only happened when I put a custom ROM on, I'm sure it's something buried inside the ROM. However, I'm at a loss as to where to check various settings.
Gotta be something deep in there...
If all else fails you can Odin back to stock, reformat your internal card and reroot.
Under Phone Settings/Additional Settings/My Phone Number--is it in format 15555555555
Also, and I don't know where to check, your country code may not be set. I don't know if we even have that setting anymore or would it be in Build Prop.
Probably under ro.something

Interesting thought. I had gone into the dialer settings, and checked the Current Country... it listed United States of America. Then I stopped. But looking further it turns out that in the Assisted Dialing settings just below that, there might be stuff that matters. Currently my assisted dialing is OFF. The settings inside are:
Country code: 1
IDD prefix: 011
NDD prefix 1
City/area code: 131
National number length: 11
The area code probably doesn't matter, but I'm interested in the national number length. Ours tend to be 10. Could you please see what your settings are in there, and let me know if anything is different?
I can always backup (ug, safestrap backup), return to stock, poke around, re-root/restore. But if you could take a quick peek I'd be grateful.
Thank you!
Marc
I tried an alternative dialer... it acted just like the stock with the + thing.
I am on a rom that doesn't have those settings--sorry
Thanks anyway! I experimented changing the last setting to 10, and enabling assisted dialing, and it didn't change anything. Sigh.
Ok, you can still go back to stock with Odin. Or, try one of iB's roms they are very good too, I use them almost exclusively now--
Good Luck--:good:
Yeah. I've been back to stock a couple times with Odin. I've got the process down pat! I prefer the hyperdrive rom if I can work through the few small warts. It's just such an elegantly crafted piece of work. Worth the effort, if I eventually sort out the call issue. Appreciate your help.

I figured out the clock on status bar thing. Like someone else said it was under the alignment options ... hidden by default. One by one warts going away.

If you haven't done so yet i suggest noting the issue in the hyper thread ... either the Verizon or att one depending on your phone. Seems to be a bunch of us... more folks report it the common thread will emerge.

Same issue here i can not dial voicemail and can not call a number back without typing the number in manually. Deal breaker for me hope it gets fixed soon so i can go back to Hyperdrive. Or somebody comes up with some sort of fix.
