I am using stock rom 6.2.2 rooted. understand that we can play with the build.proc to allow market to recognise it as another device and maybe to access more apps.
does anyone has a recommended build.proc to use on a stock rom?

might be a stupid question but do you have to be rooted to install non market apps on your device? if not how might i go about doing this?
No, there are a few methods to sideload applications that work on even factory default phones. The only limitation is that you must use a computer program to push the application to your phone over USB; you can't install them from the phone itself.
The simplest method I believe is this program here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/and...40770-ac-sideload-wonder-machine-windows.html
Noob here. I easily installed apks from homebrew to Angry Birds via browser. I dont understand why I need root? Can't we have just bunch of usefull and free apks published somewhere and have all the goodies we want?
I have 2 days old 6.2.1 not rooted.
TIA.
You don't need it unless you want to install the Android Market or any app that requires root access such as AdFree.
EDIT: And of course if you ever want to install a custom rom.
Adfree is great! Also, with a rooted Fire, I can connect to wifi anywhere via my cellphone.
Whats up everyone? Have a few questions here. I am trying to make myself a "Secure" ROM. Meaning I want a ROM that has no Google related services, apps, browsers, etc. From that point I will sideload all apps I want and also run Orbot with transparent proxying for all apps that I install. Also running Orweb browser. I have now my old Galaxy Nexus which I have been using. Basically I just installed a custom ROM without any GAPPS package and run the same apps I listed earlier. Just want a bigger screen and more power though. Anyone have any idea what all would need to be removed from the base ROM that Beanstown put out to completely NOT have any Google related things ?
I've installed LineageOS and I can't use any banking app. When I open the app, it suddenly closes itself.
ROM must be a OFFICIAL ROM with original build signatures (not ported or modified) and NON-ROOTED.
alternatively you can use parallel space apps, mine worked with that...
Hope it helps.
I have managed to Flash the LineageOS official ROM to my Dynalink TV box
I thought how it might be interesting to turn this into a small Android PC of sorts running standard phone / tablet Android
with a mouse and a keyboard over USB. (although OTG doesn't appear to work on the Official Lineage ROM)
I'd guess the difference is mostly a different Launcher.
Would it be something that could be done via ROOT using Magisk?
Or would it require modifying the Rom?
Thanks for any insight!
I've tried installing the LineageOS Trebuchet launcher and it works but you don't get your normal settings app etc. I'm pretty sure it is going to be a bit more involved than this.
Tried installing standard settings app from ADB and get error about [INSTALL_FAILED_CONFLICTING_PROVIDER Scanning Failed.: Can't install because provider name com.android.settings.files (in package com.android.settings) is already used by com.android.tv.settings
Tried uninstalling com.android.tv.settings with root ADB but still can't install normal settings app.
Not sure if this road is feasible or need to look at installing a different rom.
