Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 - just a large Galaxy Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Samsung has just revealed the Galaxy Note 10.1 - it's 10.1-inch and "only" with the same specs of Galaxy Note:

Specs:
1.4 GHz Exynos DC
10.1 Inch Screen (1280x800 Resolution)
Android 4.0
3 MP Cam
16GB/32GB/64 GB
S-Pen

Same specs as the Note, except for the camera. This has 3Mpixel camera as a main one. According to PCworld, the built-in S Note program spawns a window to the right of the Web browser, so as to take notes while still surfing. 7000mAh battery, Android 4.0 and will come in 16, 32, and 64GB models. Keep in mind this has the same resolution as the Note.
However, i still wouldn't buy it. The reason is portability.

meh ill pass i already have a Gtab 10.1, cant wait for the Note 2 tho .

Im a bit sad as it does not have 1920x1080.. would have been awesome though!

Don't you think that's an overkill for a tiny screen? I think 1280x800 or 1600x900 is plenty...
Many 30 and 40'' tv's still have only 1366x768.

Always the same discussion. The difference here is that you so not sit 10 inches from that 40" TV. You usually sit 10 feet away. So the screen is bigger but also you are farther away.
Also we are forgetting the big difference between the 5.3" and 10.1" Note, the smaller one is a phone, has 3G radio.
The good thing about this announcement is that it has ICS on it, and, as the internal hardware is the same as the 5.3" Note, it means it should not take much time to get a ICS ROM for our note. They just have to add drivers for the phone and FM radio parts.

Agree with above

I was hoping it would be a new a15 processor, but sadly it seems that is not the case :-(
As great as the specs of the note are at present, they are going to be quickly over taken once the Snapdragon S4s and Tegra 3s start hitting the market.
Also the resolution of the screen, whilst acceptable, is going to look outdated in less than a month.
I know these are the perils of buying any high end android device, but I was hoping Samsung would be smart enough to be 1 step ahead. Seems not.

With Apple releasing a retina display for iPad 3 1280x800 is a bit underwhelming for a new tablet. It's not a penile screen though, so that differs from the note.

Here's what Slashgear thinks about it:
http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-eyes-on-27215509/

One great thing about it is the bundled Adobe photoshop touch and Adobe ideas software that you get for free. They look really nice, and they cost £6.99 or $9.99 each to buy on their own, so it's great to have them included.
Would it be really optimistic to hope that once the original note gets ICS, those apps will be added to the Samsung app store for note owners to download for free?... Pretty please Samsung?

since the the galaxy note has basically the same hardware.. i wonder if we can just interchange roms

These tablets feel like a refresh, probably the real game changer is the rumored Tab/Note 11.6 which is probably on a separate event.

No AMOLED display? sigh
Even though AMOLED colors, dynamic range, and 'white balance' (too warm) stinks, but, i'm accustomed to its super contrasty fakeness

Well yeah, same name but bigger, dont think they will upgrade it so much

Can it make phone calls? If not, then I perfer the 7.7

great ! I need the phone with the same size !

Personally I'm quite excited by this.
GSM Arena have reported that its the same screen as the standard Galaxy Tab but with a different Digitizer to support the S-Pen, According to them its quite a bit quicker than the S-Pen running on the 5.3" so hopefully the ICS upgrade will be including the new drivers to upgrade the performance of the pen.
Other than that, its a fantastic idea. Sit in the office all day designing using your regular Photoshop Set-Up with a Wacom tablet, Then go home and chill on your sofa and continue your design using your 10.1" Wacom Powered Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and then continue your work on the bus on your Wacom Powered 5.3" Samsung Galaxy Note 5.3.
This makes the device a designers paradise, I'm not a designer and I never will be... But I think this is a good shot by Samsung to try and take a device away from the regular Power-Users.

lol. "penile"?

Think i'll wait for ver2 to appear in 12 months or so - it may have a quadcore by then, which would make it a real powerhourse for photo editing RAW files striaght from camera.

Samsung Galaxy S2 HD is a super-powered S2

Samsung Galaxy S2 HD is a super-powered S2
By Luke Westaway on 26 September 2011, 5:11pm
Samsung will soon launch a new version of its brilliant Galaxy S2 Android phone. The Samsung Galaxy S2 HD will pack a 4.7-inch display and a 1.5GHz processor.
The bad news? At the moment, this souped-up smart phone is only coming to Samsung's native land of South Korea.
The S2 HD was announced alongside another new version of the S2 that has a 1.5GHz processor and 4.5-inch screen, with both phones packing LTE tech that makes them 4G-compatible.
We don't get 4G in the UK, just rubbish old 3G, so these particular versions won't be coming to our green and pleasant land. Normally, we don't report on phones that won't come to the UK, but we're making an exception in this case, because we reckon Samsung could well bring a 3G version of the S2 HD over here in the future.
We certainly wouldn't complain, because this monolithic mobile has a display with a resolution of 1,280x720 pixels, which makes it a high-definition mobile. That beats the iPhone 4's 960x640-pixel screen. With an 'HD Super AMOLED' display, we suspect the S2 HD will look blindingly good.
The S2 HD is 9.5mm thick, which is about a millimetre thicker than the Galaxy S2. It also packs a 1,850mAh battery, which is bigger than the S2's 1,650mAh offering.
In short then, the Galaxy S2 HD is like the Galaxy S2 but bigger and faster. We're not sure we can handle mobile telephony that potent this early in the week, but, Samsung, if you're reading, we desperately want to see this mobile hitting the UK.
The existing S2 is proving a fair old success meanwhile, having recently passed the 10 million sales milestone.
Do you want to see the Galaxy S2 HD breaking free and heading to the UK? Then say as much in the comments section below, or on our Facebook wall, and maybe Samsung will take notice.

As much as I like the specs of the souped up SG2 with 1.5ghz with HD display, the 4.7 inch screen is just too big for my tastes. Not sure about other people but the MAXIMUM I would take for a PHONE would probably be 4.5 inches.
Be nice to have it over here as well due to the HD screen but if i can be honest i rather wait for the S3 when that comes out...My phone is powerful enough as it is and if i want to push the cpu i can...So for someone who has not got the S2 this is good upgrade but for me i wait for the next big thing to be honest...
If only they could squeeze this resolution on a 4 - 4.3 inch display....
Apple did it, im sure samsung can do that aswell.
bye portability

HD 1280x720 resolution instead of normal 800x480
and features LGU+ along with standard LTE
LGU+ is a proprietary LTE by LG only in Korea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_U+
chances are we'll never see this model in North America
Screen size sames as T-mobile/Sprint version 4.65" same CPU 1.5 Ghz probably Qualcomm instead of Exynos
I'm guessing the screen's pentile.

4.7 inches is getting too big IMO.. id much prefer 4-4.5 inches max.
I think Im just going to wait for the Galaxy S III.
how about fixing the audio issues.. i hate having to take out my i9000 to record at concerts because the audio on the s2 (without voodoo) is unuseable
Yeah if it wasn't 4.7", it'd seem more luscious. For reals though, I love the baby too much to let go, even if I hear/read/see the sgs 3/nexus prime. (won't really know till it happens though. )

Record a concert with your phone? Yes, that was the primary goal of Samsung. Hey, there are ****loads of people who go to concerts not to enjoy the music, but to create low quality blurry pictures and videos waving their phones in the air. Damn you Samsung, you've failed.
Anyways, 4.7 is WAY to big for a phone. I'm not sure it can be called a phone anymore. I'd prefer 4" sharp personally. 4.3" is a bit too big for me.

I'll tell you what, i can never go back...

to a smaller screen now. This phone rocks! Sure, i have a few (non-dealbreaker) gripes similar to others' but ignoring those, the Note is PERFECT. The screen is the most important aspect of a smartphone and the Note's is gorgeous. I hope Samsung continues to make devices this big and badass because like i said, i won't ever be able to use a crummy less-than-5inch screen again.

I couldn't agree more.
At first I thought it was a giganta-phone. But having been a phone owner since 1991 (when they used to cost real money), I must say the Note cleverly nudges the envelope.
My other smartphones look like wee toys.
My tablets look like laptops with their balls cut off.
Out and about: GNote
Between home and office: 17" MBP
But only as long as my eyes can take the searing resolution! My 41-year-old wife fell vocally beyond that 2 months ago...........

ahahahhaha! Nice one! Never heard it before. Or at least be putted like that.
And on the subject, a 5.5" or 5.7" is NOT at all in my opinion a big upgrade from the Note. Or atleast for those who already bought or planning to buy the Note since I haven't heard/read any rumors or anything about any phones in the 5.5-6.5" category.
Now a 6" android phone? With a Dual/Quad SoC with oled/amoled screen? YES SIR!
I was using 7" galaxy tab but its too big .i think if they keep the size og GN but make the screen lil bigger that would be enough for a phone..

I don't think so. It would kill pocketability. You can squeeze in a little more by killing all the hardware buttons, but this is close to the limit.
The pocketability is great now, but we haven't had people putting cases on yet. Bigger+CASE? Ugh.

Well I respect your opinion but for me it's different.
I measured my usual pockets(costumes/jeans) and they are 19cm deep(Jeans) and 17cm(costumes pants) when sitting. So I can staff in there any phone below the above sizes before it's top/bottom emerges.
Oh and both pocket's are abount 12cm wide.
Yeah, we all have many different clothes that it will not fit(maybe same goes for GNote) but making a statement here.
So a 6" GNote look alike phone based on my measurements consisting of H:160mm x W: 92-94mm is really the actual maximum size of pocketability for me.
BUT: Practical? Manageable? Easy to use? Good for a bit of longer than usual calling etc, etc? Nuh, I don't think so.
But then again.. I don't call/speak on the phone much!
Edit: It's not THAT bigger!

Same here...been rockin' a dell streak for over a year. I've looked at the SGS2, but it seems TINY compared to a 5" screen. If the note ever gets to the states, Amazon (US), I'm getting one. A 4.7" would be about as small as I could go now.

Many people are mad with them for SGS(+) and Ice Cream Sandwich
I don't really care what size the screen is or how many gigaflops it's millions of cores can produce, just don't make it look like crap or make it out of something that creaks if you even glance at it.
Truth is that I will not replace my i9000 to S3 until S3 will be made differently I mean like steel all around (including screen frame) with carbon fiber battery cover, if it is going to be better - it should be better in every single way not just specs. I use my i9000 like an egg and it already have scratches on frame close to usb input and back cover because of my nail. No scratches on screen but i have tiny little dot on glass i do not know how it got there. Samsung was going with galaxy series very well - time to make a quad core tank with lifetime usage possibilities.

So your main criterion for choosing a phone is how it looks?
I've been waiting for this... Will it be the one for real?
surely will have great spec, but just wondering if it's worth its size??? not sure if will replace my SGS (one) or simply buy a tablet to meet my need for internet browsing while on the move... and hope the battery will last for 24hrs of normal usage (two emails/calendars sync on, various apps, internet etc) without looking for power outlet mid-day. My SGS hardly last for one day on one charging...
You could fit a 4.6" screen on a phone around the size of the i9000 if you ditched hard keys and had the screen almost edge-to-edge. I won't buy a phone you need to wear on your belt.e
What's the story with new phones coming in at 4.6"+ displays?
I would think the original galaxy S at 4'' was superb fit for pocket and portability. Increase that to 320ppi with a superamoled HD display and voila we have new SGSIII.
I can't see why they going for such big displays. I even have the 4.3"" HD2 and that's the max I would see for a phone.
There will be disappointment and exhilaration with this release. Either way I am buying this regardless....
EDIT: I am hoping for Wolfson DAC in the audio output. It must have this dac..

Not at all, we all know this thing is going to be a beast of a phone, so I have no worries about it's performance, but I want something that doesn't look like it was designed by an art student trying to be "edgy"
But it is getting to the point now where they will all be more powerful than any of us realistically need for the near future, so the look (OLED vs TFT is becoming more of a non-issue) is the only real thing that's going to differentiate them. I don't like the HTC aesthetic, it's just boring to me, Sony have gone all bling again and others like Motorola just seem to design their phones for corporate boardrooms.
Samsung just seem stuck trying to refine the "not iPhone" shape of the SGS 1 in Europe, and it's getting a little boring, time for something new. And it will probably save them a few quid if Apple can't keep suing them because of a physical home button.

It is available for preorder at Negri Electronics for 750USD (a little steep imho)!

Another infi here, use G Translate:

So, after many speculation it has a QUAD core CPU, 2GB RAM and a 5MP Camera. The only drawback is the 720 screen, not 1080, but anyway it is the perfect tablet imho, you can do everything with it!.
Will you buy it, and why?
That's WAY too expensive for a tablet.
Especially since it is a 16GB. They can't compete with prices like that.
lol 750 USD? this is gonna be a joke.
A Watcom digitizer is alone 200$ and when the tablet will be available on proper retail channels it will be around 550$. So, under that price it will worth every penny.
If the pen is not necessary, this is a subpar tablet. The TF700 is better.
This is the only thing that makes me want the tablet, SPen, and also Samsung build quality, i own the Prime and i know what i am talking about. TF700 suffers the same I/O problems like TF201.
I have been saving since introduction of first iPad to buy this. I have used windows tablets with wacom pens and only I know how frustrating that is.
Sent from GNote.
For that money they could provide NFC ...i don't understand the omission, you could pair it with your phone easily, Nexus 7 has it. At least it has BT 4.0.
it's a beautiful tablet with a great specs and s-pen but it's a little bit expensive.
i wonder what for the infra-red, remote control what, note 2 maybe?! samsung smart tv maybe?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 also has IR for the control of TVs and other IR enabled devices.
BTW, this device has the Apt-x codec for bluetooth audio (also BT 4.0 I believe). This codec works great and is sort of rare right now. OS X has it built in but it's sometimes difficult to use (other codecs compete, for some reason). Anyway, there is presently only a handful of devices that use this. I want it as I own a Soundmatters Foxl that uses this codec. It works well and sounds better than regular bluetooth audio (which is marginal).
Note: It's interesting that OS X has this codec but iOS does not. Lame. Also, it's apparently one of the only Android device that uses it.
I hope it does have exFat support (ntfs in my dreams .. ), my Prime has it.
Nice commercial:

Having waited ages for this tablet's release the specs are disappointing. Not for me I'm afraid...still no Android tablet out there that I can justify purchasing

What is it that you are missing?
Strange, why no 1080p? This one is top of the line Samsung tablet at the moment, should got at least 1080p. 1280x800 for 10.1" tablet is so yesteryear imo. Battery concern? Mali-400 can't handle 1080p?

When I sit down and give it a bit more thought perhaps I am being over critical...I just can't get excited yet! Will have to wait and see how it fairs in hands on reviews. I just hope the S Pen calibration is improved over the N7000. As a left handed user I find it pretty poor and the continuous cycle of having to reset the 'left handed' calibration option in the pen options is just frustrating, especially on a device designed to work with a pen! A slight bump in screen resolution and processor speed would have been a nice touch, though on balance these aren't necessarily going to be deal breakers.
I really don't need 1080 screen resolution...it comes with age (worse eye site)
As for pen, it's something different because it has 1024 pressure levels, not just 256 like our Note does.
Another selling point for me is the inclusion of 2GB of RAM, dreaming of dual booting in Ubuntu (or in worst case WinRT which needs a lot of RAM).

Sorry for the slight off topic but Touch Screen Tune from the market sorts out calibration. Does need root.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Also, if i activate the pen cursor in ICS i don't feel the need for any calibration.

Who's getting one and why?

Hey all
HTC has hit us with the latest "Nexus" tablet, the Nexus 9. It's a bit different from other tabs being released atm, It's gone down the apple route with its display ratio, a 4:3 number. I can see the benefits of this for ebooks and PDF's etc, but have we all got used to the 16:9/16:10 ratios of most android tabs? Both have their pros and cons, thoughts?
We also see a Dual-core processor, something that is different as most tabs now tout at least a Quad-Core affair, would this be a major factor in the decisions made when considering this device?
Its great to see HTC back in the tab game, i for one hope to see more, maybe with the sense UI:good:
So, who will be grabbing one of these?

I'll be getting one! Well, don't under estimate the processor, were talking Tegra K1 here. It did even beat the 2012 Mac Pro in single tread test.
Because it's a nexus ! Great development! To many to list
That Dual core Denver K1 is the most powerful processor at this moment
The scary thing is even it runs way low clock speed to what it is capable of(2.3Ghz>3Ghz),it still out perform Apple's A8 chip on both single thread and multi thread
And dat the GPU it is just pure massacre
The only thing disappoint me is the storage, but I'll get a otg flash drive to see how it works
Me and laptop replacement
I've got a 32GB white one pre-ordered. I've been wanting a ~8" tablet for a while now. This being a nexus device and the best SOC available atm made it an instabuy!
simply its a NEXUS 9
and its the best + i need an upgrade from my nexus 7 12
I have a tab 12.2 right now and it's just to heavy haha. The nexus 9 is like 50% lighter than the tab pro 12.2
I preordered mine (32 gig white version). I'm getting it for two reasons:
- My 2012 Nexus 7 has run its course. It's too laggy and slow in every task.
- I was waiting for a true upgrade spec wise, and the Denver Tegra K1 ticks all the right boxes:
ARMv8 based cores with 7-way superscalar and in-order execution. Even ARM's cortex-A57 is no match for this, which means qualcomm needs to design a new core in order to catch up with nvidia and apple
GPU performance currently unmatched in the mobile space. The Geforce ULP in the previous Tegra chips was terrible and an outdated architecture. Kepler is a huge upgrade.
I need a tablet mostly for the consumption of PDFs and other documents for work. Up to this point, the iPad was the ideal device due to its 4:3 aspect ratio. Now I have a large high-end device to go with since I do prefer the Android ecosystem over iOS.
I also do not have a tablet at the moment, so might as well spend on a device that would be my main device.
My first tablet was an Nexus 7, then I made the move to an iPad Mini, then back to the N7 2013, I have no tablet atm... But the N9 has a decent sized screen. Is made by HTC and Looks good, so yeah, I'll purchase one.

Well, I always had iPhone's up until the 4S was released, was then I switched to Android (S3) - As for tablet, it was easier for work having an iPad as I couldn't use a rooted Android for work.
I always used to say "If Apple built a bigger iPhone, I'd probably switch back" but I haven't seen the need. Not an Apple lover nor hater, to me an iPhone/iPad are superbly built devices, it's all personal preference. There is still Apple products in my household, I just choose not to use them. (except my Macbook)
Android and iOS= its like Liverpool and man united (love Liverpool and f&%£## hate man u.
Never used iOS or even want to! Would feel like I cheated on the Mrs!
Long live android
Just being honest. ?
Bug!
ordered the 16gb black model cause although i loved both n7s they were a bit small and i find i used them for 90% non-gaming/video watching so 4:3 is very appealing... also really like that htc is involved because of their build quality..

Well done! See you around
Got it for the 4:3 ratio. I read on my tablet 90% of the time and this screen will be ideal for it.
Other reasons...Android is the best OS for tablets hands down as far as I'm concerned and this comes with very little bloat. Lots of development support. Battery life should be great. Speed, it will be fast as hell, expect zero lag. I think this will be the (near) perfect tablet for me.
