Rooting/unrooting - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

I just make a simple tutorial for rooting and unrooting in another post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22963897&postcount=117
Maybe little bit different but it works..
I'm SGT 8.9 user, but i have friend need my help for rooting his SGT P6800
so i implement the rooting process just like 8.9 do..
here is the method
For Rooting:
Download the root_original.zip from the attachment..
Transfer the attached file root_original.zip to the EXTERNAL SDCARD
Go To recovery menu, and choose "install update from external storage"
Choose root_original.zip with power button until it finish (apx 30 seconds)
Reboot
Install Superuser from market, run once..
Install Busybox Installer from market, then install busybox (if you need it just install, if not, dont do that)
Done..You just root
For Unrooting:
Uninstall Busybox with proper uninstaller if you use it (becarefull, some version will break your wifi module)
Uninstall superuser from Settings--application--manage application
Download the unroot_original.zip from the attachment..
Transfer the attached file unroot_original.zip to the EXTERNAL SDCARD
Go To recovery menu, and choose "install update from external storage"
Choose unroot_original.zip with power button until it finish (apx 30 seconds)
Reboot
Done.. You just Unroot..
Notes: Unrooting process only works with rooting process as mentioned above..
if you rooting from another file unrooting will works.. But you still need wipe and manually uninstall busybox if the root file include with it....
hope this help someone..
This is my reason why i dont include busybox in my root file package
1.Incompatibility issues between busybox version...
2.you dont use that too much, what kind operation you do with this tool for a month,,except if you dev.. You know well what you must to do.. Even softbrick, you dont use that..
3. Unrooting became complicated for me..
So, its your choice guys..
+1 is a gift for me if this post help you..

nice to meet u here

Gan,kok postingannya ga dtaruh di development?

Yes..nice to meet you too
sudah ada judulnya di development, untuk newbie biasanya liat general dulu kan baru ke development..

Thanks for your work.
Could you please tell me what the different between root by stock recovery and root with CWM recovery?

Both of recovery recognized the script for rooting, the output is same..CWM is something we need coz it has ability to write and backup to a whole partition...

After rooting, do you get a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark when you boot the device like the one on the galaxy s2? If yes, will the unrooting method above remove it?
Thanks

The rooting process doesnt intact with recovery partition or kernel partition, so triangle not appear because this process..
there is no correlation between unrooting with removing triangle exclamation,..
This is my assumption..
Triangle exclamation is a warning that your current kernel or (maybe recovery) not an officially release by Samsung..
To remove triangle just replace your custom with official release and your 3Angle will disappear..

thanks for the answer, the reason why I asked is because there is counter that Samsung uses that shows how many times u rooted your device, just like in the galaxy s2, and that will definitely void my warranty.

No my friend, binary counter will count when you using odin with custom kernel/firmware through download mode..
In SGS 2 and galaxyNote has same method for this..

so....in this binary counter case..if we use ODIN to flash the official samsung firmware, the counter will not detect...am i right??
and another question, if i flash custom firmware through ODIN and later on i flash back to the official firmware for warranty purpose, does the counter will be reset??
*thnxs in advance for your reply~

First : In SGS2 and galaxy Note case the answer is yes.. Your counter still 0, im not sure with p6800.. post your download mode screen here for make sure..
Second: you cannot reset the counter with flashing official firmware.. You need usb jig or something similar with that to reset the counter..please read thread from gnote or Sgs2..

ok..thnxs..will do later..soon after i've downloaded

Has anyone try rooting their 7.7 with SuperOneClick v2.3.3?

Nope, maybe you can try.. But i think it wont work cause the exploit only works on 2.2 and 2.3 devices..

Halo friend,
would this be safe on the Verizon tab 7.7?
Terimah kasih

I dont know, never try this on verizon device, maybe you can try it..
Aman kok, jika gagal proses root akan berhenti tanpa pengaruh ke device..

went ahead and pulled the trigger....
and all is well....
now i just need CWMR

[Q] Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 root OMEGA

Hello.
Nice to meet your community.
I have second day my new galaxy S4.I sold my previous Iphone 4s which was jailbroked in the latest level i could,as was my 3GS before 3 years.
I decided to enter Android family and this is my first touch of serious Android phone as i am newbie here.
Searching in the internet i found that the best custom rom is OMEGA,so i entered your community to help me out.
In the subject now:
My firmware is I9505XXUBMGA.
I have download I9505_Omega_v10_XXUBMH1_md5_FF0929179DC10DB316C38969CE2AFDC0 and put in Internal memory at "Downloads" but as i see there is a different firmware XXUBMH1 from mine.
I tried to put it with VOLUME UP+HOME+POWER buttons but my CWM has not advanced settings so i pressed cache wipe and now the CWM do not open.
CWM is recovery mode as i understood, right?
What are the steps?I go to another firmware and to another CWM and then i pass OMEGA?
1st, go to developer section and read the installation instructions for Omega... You have tried to flash a custom rom with a stock recovery... NOT GONNA HAPPEN...
You need to root your phone, install a custom recovery and then flash the custom rom.
Do some reading before you brick your new toy...
Hi, welcome in the Android community !
First check the device you own, because GT-I9505 and GT-I9500 are not the same and ROM that fit the first can brick the second and vice-versa.
Then, you have to root your phone, then to install a custom recovery.
Tutorials for these two steps can be found here, Q4 and Q5 answers.
Once these two steps are successfully completed, you can then flash the OMEGA zip file in recovery mode.

Thank you both guys.
I am reading now to get ready.
I have done Q4 but i do not understand these informations:
Installation and usage
Flash the CF-Auto-Root package as PDA in ODIN (details on how to do that are in next post), and your device should reboot into a modified recovery (signified by a large red Android logo) and it will install SuperSU for you and restore the stock recovery, and reboot back into Android.
If you don't get to the red Android logo, boot into recovery manually ("adb reboot recovery", or boot while holding Power+VolUp+Home).
Using this root increases your flash counter. You should run Triangle Away (see below) after rooting to reset the counter. Note that if you want to run custom kernels or custom recoveries, your flash counter will be set to 1 at every boot. Either configure Triangle Away to reset the counter at every boot (Play version only) or only reset the counter when you need to go into warranty.
Did you see the red Android logo during rooting, but SuperSU does not appear? This may sometimes occur due to left-over files and settings, however, you can usually install SuperSU from Google Play at this stage and it'll just work.
Why isn't this just called CF-Root
The traditional CF-Root's included a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP, etc) and were meant for devices that had a single kernel/recovery combination. CF-Auto-Root doesn't include a custom recovery and is meant for devices that have kernel and recovery separate (so you can manually install any custom recovery you wish). The Auto part comes from the fact that a large part of the process is automated (though it constantly needs adjusting)
Not included - Triangle Away
Triangle Away can be used to reset the flash counter after installing CF-Root. The flash counter keeps track of how many custom firmwares you have flashed, as this voids warranty. (No idea what this about ? Read up on it, you will want to use this !)
Not included - adbd Insecure
As this CF-Root does not include a custom kernel, adb shell does not have root access by default (you can still get it by typing su inside the shell), nor is adb remount supported, nor will adb push and adb pull work on system files. adbd Insecure can be used to remedy this situation. (No idea what this is about ? Don't worry about it !)

Second reply says how it is done.
I have done it successfuly,is there any other to do before Q5?
I have done both steps successfuly (as i think).
In first step i found SuperSu and in second the CWM has pasted.
Now can i root OMEGA?
I have I9505XXUBMGA.

If you already rooted your phone, and install those custom recovery, then just do what indie says in his post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40778466&postcount=4
you should go fine if you really really follow those step

I have done both but i have put PhilZ CWM instead of TWRP as recommended for the omega installation.
The only thing for me is the kernel.
Is there any problem that mine is different than omegas rom kernel?
So does not mater the kernel you are been to if you are rooted?
Omega installs the rooted stock kernel so it won't matter what current kernel you're using. There's plenty of kernels available. You can only install kernels that support Samsung (TW) firmware.

Yes, like @symondo12 said, omega comes with stock kernel, so it will not be problem. For recovery, that's fine whatever recovery you use, it can install same thing, but TWRP has very user friendly view than the other.
From your post before, I think what you mean is the build number, that's like the software version. Your current version is the one same with omega v9,so if you install omega with version newer than the v9, it's like you got upgrade from your current version
Sorry for the bad english, I hope you understand what I'm saying
Yes i understand and i have done both.

[Q] Please Help Me! Root Galaxy S4

Okay well, I have a GS4 GT-I 9500 on android 4.2.2 KitKat.
I updated it from 4.3 to this version when I was in Russia.
And lately, I heard of rooting and stuff so I'm a total newbie!
So, I jumped for some tutorials on the web and I learned about Pc Odin, chainfire root, and CWM recovery.
I used first a method wich involved using odin to push the CF auto-root with PDA into the phone while on download mode. I got only 'reset' but no 'pass' would show. And no supersu icon will appear in my app drawer. After lots of tires and multiple Odin version changes I succeeded in having 'pass', but nope, "no proper root access"(via root checker).
So then I used Odin to put CWM recovery in the phone and enter it to "install zip from sd card" and installed the CF auto-root . zip. Lines start to flow and ends with a "Done". Then I go back to reboot and it says something like do you want to fix root located in... before root? I tried "yes - fix root" and "no - just reboot" And both didn't fix it for me.
Finally, I tried motochopper.zip that have some files wich needed developer mode to be enabled and USB debugging. I only had to hit enter in run.bat and it starts the rooting process. But immediately says failure and gives an error like "failure supersu already available"...
I would really appreciate any help. I need my device rooted soon, please. Thanks in advance.
P.S: While on download mode, it shows that my phone status is modified. I won't mind having to force a factory reset if it'll fix something.
Thanks a lot!
I wonder if my post is visible to others, I really need my phone rooted

there is also a pc app called Vroot that works almost like magic, every device i plug in is rooted within 2 minutes, even without drivers!

If you have Clockwork Mod Recovery on your phone now, find a Superuse.zip install package and flash that in recovery. It will work like a charm.
easy steps !
download & flash touch philz Recovery via Odin
then go to recovery and select re-root system > > yes apply ( Supersu )
Then download supersu from google play and he will ask you how do you want to update binary ,just click normal
YEAH!! Finally rooted

[Q] Messed up Root with SU

Hey guys i need your help..
Acutally i think my problem isnt that big, but i dont want to take any further risk so i better ask before i´ll go on..
What i did.
I installed CWM
I Installed Super SU via CWM.
SU asks two questions while installing. (Overwrite recovery and root question)
Unfortunately i clicked no on the second question.(it says it´s permanent)
Now i dont have root on my device, no triangle, and SU app just stops when i click it.
What I want:
First of all i want root, to do the backup task (efs). Imei and System backup allready done.
Next step i aimed for was installing the Phoenix Rom.
Now my question is:
Can i just flash CFroot (i9505) for my S4 via odin without any risk?
After i have achived root and done the backup, i´ll just install the coustom rom with CWM ?
Thx in advance. Any help is really appreciated.

Hi ,
What custom recovery you have ?
Philz touch has an option to re root system
Go to Philz settings and choose to re root , also there you can deselect the option to verify ROOT ON EXIT so it will not happen again to you
Regarding your questions
CFroot with Odin , should be no problem , only problem depending in what bootloader you have is the knox bit will be triger
for your second question , before install a custom rom change your recovery to Philz or TWRP ( latest) they should work fine with any custom rom
Try Towelroot, no need flashing to get root. Just download/install the app and run it. Simple as that.
This of course if your device is supported.
Well the method with philz recovery worked fine for me now. Thanks
Seems anyway i have triggered the Knox counter:/
doesnt bother me at all, since i wanted to mod my phone anyway, but in worst case scenario, there is still no possibility to set the counter back or?

Weird semi-root situation.

Hi guys,
Yesterday i have rooted a friend's phone with a laptop using the RootGenius application and all worked perfectly and the root is working good.
EDIT: I've tested other root apps on my friend's phone and it's the same problem. So that app didn't rooted correctly.
After that, i rooted my phone wich is a Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition (i9505) and...well, something went wrong there. After the root, all the programs were stopping working. The installed programs were not available and i couldn't open almost any app. I did a factory reset and now it's working fine, but...the root acces it's a little bit f****d up.
If i check the root with Root Checker, it says that i have root access. The superuser app is called KingUser and i never heard of this app.
Now, here comes the problem: if i want to use a root-needed app like GameCIH, for example, i grant the root access, but i can't use the app, it says that i don't have a rooted phone...
I can use the XMODGAMES app wich is also a root-needed app, but i want to use all the root apps, 'cause why not?
I tried to install SuperSU. When i open it, it says that i need to update SU binaries. I press normal, because i don't have a custom recovery and then i grant root acces and then it says: Failed, reboot the phone and try again. I rebooted it a few times and no succes, the same thing.
So what should i do?
Should i unroot it and then re-root it?
If yes, how?
Thanks.
Have a nice day.
Why not just use CF auto-root for flashing. Easiest method and never fails.
Unroot and reroot using CF-Autoroot. Search for the CF-Autoroot thread to learn how it's done.
Be aware however that this will trip the Knox flag.

Thanks, I will try to do that. But what means that it will trip Knox flag?
We have an entire thread on Samsung's Knox software on the forum, but in short the flag is a means for Samsung to tell the phone's firmware has been tampered with.

How can I remove the KingUser app?
Now i was trying to install CWM Recovery someway to be able to update su binaries trhu it with SuperSu.
Can i add you on Facebook or Steam or Skype or whatever to help me faster?
Or can you send me a detailed step-by-step thing to help me faster..?

You can remove King user by clicking on the icon, hold it en move it to the left upper corner ,where it'saing delete app or something like that in Dutch it's "installatie ongedaan maken"
At first root whith Chainfire ,don't use CWM but TWRP 2.6.0.0? Search for it,and dont use TWRP 2.8.5.0.

That's why i said it's trouble, the only sollution to remove it is factory reset, root again and custom recovery, use this time TWRP much easier ,just touch and spare the volume rockers

The factory reset dont unroot, i factory reseted and the phone is still in that trouble.
And with the recovery? Can i install TWRP now?
Ok so i figured out what i've done: I have installed Philz Recovery which is a CWM recovery 6 with touch version and it works via an app that boots into recovery (root app that fortunattely worked as root). So what do i need to do now?
If i open SuperSu it says that it needs to update the su binary. When i tap normal it fails and then i tap cwm/twrp, it dosen't do anything, even if i boot into recovery mode. Do i need to install a zip SU-BB? I did it and it didn't work. Any other ideas?

Your information is outdated. TWRP is already on 2.8.7.0 and it's the only one that should be used. Do not use old version because it will give you conflicts with Lollipop.

If i open SuperSu it says that it needs to update the su binary. When i tap normal it fails and then i tap cwm/twrp, it dosen't do anything, even if i boot into recovery mode. Do i need to install a zip SU-BB? I did it and it didn't work. Any other ideas?

What you need to do:
- If you are on the latest Philz just perform a full wipe. Reflash the rom. And do what I told you.

Your information is outdated. TWRP is already on 2.8.7.0 and it's the only one that should be used. Do not use old version because it will give you conflicts with Lollipop.
