Need suggestions - Venue Pro General

I been using a Nokia 5800 now for 2 years or so. I was on AT&t but just this week I flip over to StraightTalk with an AT&T simm for much less money.
Anyway, I am looking to get away from a small acreen.
I had in my hands an HTC Titan and loved Mango with the email /contacts integration and the size of the screen. I was using it to watch Netflix confortably. Anyway would have kept the phone except that in 30 days I had three Titans and ALL of them had the random power cycle every like 12 to18hrs and I had tried some troubleshooting but didn't make a difference. Beside the fact it had awful Voice quality on phone calls both ways. So all of the Titans got shipped back and I reversed the upgrade well that was when I was with AT&T which is no longer the case.
The Dell Venue pro seems like the price is right now (Amazon, Newegg) but I know the hardware is more than an year old now. At this point in time would one want to purchase this phone? Does this phone have a front facing camera too? How is the voice quality?
When I had the Titan in my hands I played with the Tango Video chat software and talked to my cousin in Australia and it worked out fine except for voice, when I plugged in a headset it was night and day difference.
Just curious how many windows phone have a front facing camera and have decent voice quality both ways?
Looking for suggestions here. I have read some of the forum but just can't make a decision on how to get away from my 3.2 inch screen of my Nokia 5800. Thank you in advance for suggestions.

You know, that's a good question, one that has been tossed around in a couple of threads. It will all boil down to personal choice, of course. Yes, the dell is an old phone. But, its still a good phone. If you can get it contract free, it may be a good deal for you. I just gave mine to my son lady week. He came from an HTC sensation. Loves it.
There are several new phones out right now, a Samsung or 2, the titan, nokia has the 710, 610, 800 out now or real soon. Most fall into tufted 3.x range. Too small for me.
Nokia is introducing the Lumia 900 series in the next 2 weeks. You can check the specs on nokia.com. They look good. This will be my choice.
This week in Barcelona is the mobile world conference. You should see a lot of new offerings come from there. If you can wait , I recommend checking out the news from mwc first...you can follow it in engadget.com, and other places.
The key recommend would be, try the phone, do the research, and most of all, HOLD the phone. See on it feels and fits in your hand. Take no ones word but your own. And mine, of course.

Venue Pro
I know the mobile expo this week but I decided to try out the Dell Venue Pro from NewEgg. They have a decent 30 day return so I don't think I can lose. This phone seems to be unlocked for TMobile 3G but I may decide if I keep it to do that procedure (which I hope works) in the menu to change it to AT&T 3G bands. well see.
I really can't spend 400 on a phone right now. I hope I like the Dell enough to keep it for a while as I save money using StraightTalk. I kinda will miss the front facing camera that the Titan has when I used it with that Tango Video chat software. I thought about used but I not so lucky with used things.

cool...keep in mind, the 900 is supposed to be $99 USD + 2 YR contract on AT&T next month

IMO there are some nice gen2 phones for AT&T bands, but not nearly as much for T-mo. For me, portrait hardware qwerty slider FTW. Now that Skype is in beta though, and since you're on AT&T, I think the Nokia 900 is probably your dominant choice (esp. if you're cool with the contract). Faster, FF camera, best rear cam (DVP prob has the worst cam implementation), extra Nokia maps, etc.
We can only dream that Nokia makes a 900 spec device with vertical slider and AWS bands. Then I predict eBay will be flooded with $80 DVPs
Sent from my Venue Pro

Well I just got out of AT&T and went with an AT&T sim card from StraightTalk to save some money a month. Nice thing with StraightTalk I can flip to a TMobile with a purchase of a Tmobile Sim card if I wanted to. The lumia 900 has great specs on paper will have to see how it is when it actually comes out with people doing some reviews. Probably the most important to me is how does it sound on voice calls in both directions... The lousy experience with Titan besides the random power cycling on 3 different Titans I had in 30 days that I had it was with call quality. It was somewhat embarressing. Nice phone but call quality stinks on that phone. Seems like people forget about voice with all the other features these phones have after all it is a phone. I can't believe in this day and age we have to worry about Voice quality on a Cell Phone.
I thought i read somewhere that possibly in May that Nokia was going to sell the Nokia Lumia 900 (or simulair) as an unlocked device. I would imagine it will be priced way out of my range but still for those that can spend.

Unlock or locked?
I have my Venue Pro now. It seems to be unlocked for GSM . I have an AT&T sim from StraightTalk and it just wants to connect on E I guess that is edge. Even after changing the bands I click save is there something more?

7501 Listed on Amazon - Available August 1, 2007

I'm not sure when this showed up on Amazon, but it's been in the last couple of days. I've heard that Amazon was going to be the first distributor of the 7501 in the U.S. and it looks like it will be available August 1st. Here's the link to the listing ... http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Advantage...8543?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1178972918&sr=8-1
We can't order it yet, but can you can sign up for an email when it becomes available.
Thats good news for you guys in the US. Should hopefully mean more accessories will start to be released as it appears people are slow on the uptake with tmanufacturing acessories for the Advantage as there isnt too much to choose from.
Also hopefully will mean Windows Mobile 6 for the rest of us Ameo / Advantage owners who are on Windows Mobile 5! I dont mind waiting till August!
x7501
Actually after reading the link you posted. That is the X7500 and Amazon will not be the only organisation selling this device.David of Mad Monkey boy gadgets will have the device on hand when it is released.
I believe this is the 7501 since it has WM6
It looks like the pictures are of the 7500, since it has the webcamera on the front. Although, in the text it clearly states it's "Powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6", which is the key differentiator for the 7501 vs. 7500. I think Amazon just used standard "stock photos" for the ad, just to get it up. If I can get a 7500 with WM6 then I'm all for it, but I don't believe that's offered anywhere yet. What's everyone else think?
Also, thanks for mentioning Mad Monkey Boy Gadgets. Does anyone else have any recommendations of where the X7501 will be available? I don't have any particular allegiance to Amazon, so I would welcome some price competition.

actually, i see no points of getting the HTX X7501 if you can get X7500. There will be official WM6 update for X7500, it has been confirm and announce already.
So which one will you get? x7500 with front camera and WM6 and you don't need to wait, or x7501 with no front camera with WM6 but you have to wait?
I am still trying to figure out what is there even a X7501, my internal contact in HTC can not answer it, and the best guess is x7501 is target for US market only, but hey, x7500 is also being sold in US now.
Good point
The only reasons I was waiting was to get a fresh WM6 build and to make sure it works with AT&T 3G 1900Hz. I was without my Universal for about 3 months after a disasterous official i-mate ROM upgrade. I ended up having to get a new "mother board" for it in the end and it seemed like an eternity. Evidently the board was faulty and it got locked on the splash screen.
Although, if you think the X7500 is better (with the front camera), the WM6 upgrade will go smoothly and it works on the U.S. 3G 1900Hz AT&T 3G network, I may go ahead and get the 7500. I sure don't want to wait if I don't have to.
Thank you very much for your insight.

i am 95% sure it will work in US (some people are already using x7500 in US, you can ask them). And yes WM6 update will run smoothly on x7500 too. So yes, i think x7500 is better. You see, the point is US is not suppose to have x7500 for sell, but some people import it therefore it's now available for buy too. Therefore it's no point waiting x7501.
Bare in mind the reason why x7501 take off front camera is the network in US doesn't allow video call, but hey, you can still use it for taking picture of yourself
Yes, it does work on the Cingular 3g network. As a matter of fact, it works great. No issues at all on the cingular 3g network.
Doesn't allow video telephony... unfortunatly true. The network is provisioned, sites are being added regularly and SUDs work fine. If you can manage to have someone add the SOCs for you or in some cases write the proper class on your SIM, you can use it. Why oh why marketing chooses not to turn on the switch. Market is ready to pay to use the service, and network deployed should suffice to the extra load. Most sites have enough bandwith to sustain data connection over 3G and video telephony. *sigh* why are northamerican GSM service providers so behind in the offering? Devices, services... I'm moving back to hong kong! Hutchison isn't bad at all in comparison now.

Thanks for the news !!!
That's great news that it definitely works on the Cingular/AT&T 3G network. I've had horrible reception on my Universal ever since they transitioned to 3G in January. I think Cingular re-prioritized their towers to 3G and left the 2G/GSM network with less bandwidth ... and I can't use the 3G since the Universal 3G is the 2100Hz European version.
Does anyone have a source you would recommend for the HTC version (in Black) for the US? I bought my XDAII and Universal from overseas and I would sure like to buy from the U.S. this time, if possible.
Finally, as anyone heard firm timing on an official HTC WM6 upgrade? Sorry for being a little paranoid, but ever since I turned my Universal into a brick last year I've gotten a little squeamish on doing ROM upgrades.
Thank you all again for the help. I'm hoping others in the U.S. are in my position are reading this and will also benefit from this thread.

Couldn't be, it's not out yet. Or am I lost?
This is incredible !!!
As an update, I ended up buying an X7501 (opps ... meant X7500) through eBay (http://www.phonesource-usa.com/cell-phone-555-cheap/HTC-Advantage-X7500---Plus-FREE-2GB-miniSD.php).
I just got it a couple of hours ago and all I can say is this completely blows my Universal out of the water !!! I've just done the basic setups for now, but everything went so smoothly. The screen is wonderful and I actually like the keyboard better in some ways. I could go on an on, but that's for another thread/post. I just wanted to thank you all for the guidance ... great advice !!!

I believe you mean a X7500, the x7501 comes with Windows Mobile 6 and is not released yet...But yea, I love my x7500 too!
hi guys/gals,
just to verify olliesshop, is it the 7500-wm-5 or 7501-wm-6 that you received ?
i,m just down i-94 in ann arbor and had my jasjar up until a few months ago, but it seemed slow and had to be reset regularly, and reception for the phone and data was quite slow, not to mention the poor camera.
ahhhhhhhhh but now that i have the trion, i really do miss that vga screen!
anyway please let us know which version you have, and does it have the front video camera ?, price you paid and how quickly did you receive it ?
thanks,
djsell
First, yes it was the X7500, sorry for the typo.
Second, it came with WM5 and I expect to upgrade to WM6 in a couple months, along with all the other X7500 owners. Also, it does have the front video camera. I bought it through good old eBay. Here's the link to the item ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:11&Item=220111572595. My research showed only a few X7500 retailers, so I went to eBay to check out the one's sold there. This one seemed like the best deal and they where based in the U.S. (Las Vegas). I called them up and they seemed nice so I went with them ... http://www.phonesource-usa.com/cell-phone-555-cheap/HTC-Advantage-X7500---Plus-FREE-2GB-miniSD.php. So far, it's still an incredible machine compared to my Jasjar.
The only 2 minor problems I have so far:
1. The clear part of the keyboard is getting scratched from the "sharp metal" edge of the screen. It's slightly poud of the black case so it scrapes the clear part as it slides over it. So my plan is to wait until there's no interference (after it's worn all the way down) and polish the clear plastic.
2. There's no place to put the keyboard when you just want to use the main part of the device. So I end up putting in my pocket. I assumed it would magnetically attach to the back of the device, but it doesn't seem to.
Overall summary ... I was waiting for the Omni, but it seems like it's turning out to be vaporware or at least not available until late this year. This was clearly the right decision. The Cingular/AT&T 3G works flawlessly in Grosse Pointe, where my Jasjar could barely get a signal anyware after they introduced 3G. The large screen is awesome compared to the Jasjar. I could go on and on, but I will be having tonnes of fun with with for a while.

For your SMS problem; Did you set your SMS centre number in your phone settings?
If you just installed the SIM card after getting the unit then your SMS and Voicemail numbers need to be entered in the phone settings.

Got the green light to get a hermes!

So, after discussing the options to repair my old blue angel (cracked digitizer ), the accountant (AKA The Wife(tm)) gave me the green light to get a hermes.
My question: Which one to get? I know of the first generation having the touchscreen problems and loose keyboards, but I can't seem to find anything that identifies the models that have these problems.
I see on ebay and various places the occasional Softbank. I am aware of the "dangers" of getting a softbank that is not unlockable/flashable, but with a price usually considerably lower than the other versions of the phone (HTC, Vodaphone, etc), they are tempting, but if they are already unlocked, I question the ability of the unit to accept different ROM's.
Anyone have any advice on what to look for/versions to avoid? Thanks!
Why don't you get the HTC TyTN II aka HTC Kaiser?
I would wait until the Kaiser is out and get that. It will be the latest and no need to upgrade for a while.
If you're sure you want to go with a Hermes (nothing wrong with that) instead of waiting on the Kaiser, take a look at this wiki page for problems with different models. At this point I don't think there are really any major problems on the newest models.
Also, when I shopped around for mine the 8525 was generally the cheapest available here in the states. If you go with an 8525, maybe look for an AT&T branded phone, as that should be one of the newest production models (won't get stuck with an old one with alignment issues).
Well, as much as I would love to get a Kaiser, the cost is high enough that it is not really an option. I'm seeing the Hermes going for around $400 to $500 used, with pre-orders for the Kaiser for almost $800. I may try to go that route still.
I've looked at the wiki, however, as is the case, sometimes people don't have the time to update it, so I thought I'd check with those who are currently using them now.
And the 8525... I've avoid that one. Something about AT&T/Cingular removing features from the phone and the fact that I'm seeing a more of those for sale over any other model kind of worries me.
I really like the look of the softbank, I'm just worried that if I get one unlocked, that it was done in a way that would prevent me from flashing a custom ROM on it.
Well, I recently bought a Softbank X01 for myself. The stock I got seems to have been made in July and so far it's performing nicely. The ebay seller said it was unlocked for use on the networks in my area (Rogers Canada) and sure enough it is. It also came flashed with a Dopod ROM of WM6 which was a bonus for me, as I 've never flashed ROMs onto things before.
The only problem was the keyboard layout didn't match what the software thought it was -- that is to say, I just had to tweak which keyboard version I had installed and then all symbols on hardware keyboard were in correct position.
If it helps, here's the seller I got it from. I did the local pickup, but they apparently have shipping too.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-SoftBank-X01...ryZ64355QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
For the record, the only thing different about the 8525 is the lack of the front facing VGA 3G video camera. Since there is no 3G video call capabilities in the US, there's no need to have it. The 8525 is a HERM100 device. See here for an explanation.
The likely reason that they are available all over is the fact that AT&T subsidizes the cost of the phone. For instance, I can buy the phone through my business account for $300 with free activation, free shipping, etc. If I wasn't lazy, I'd pay the $300 and sell it on ebay. Also, the 8525 is the only one available from a carrier in the US. So if you're looking on ebay.com, that's just what you're going to see. Just like you'd probably see a lot of Dopods in south east Asia.
There's nothing wrong with the 8525. Other than the front camera, the only differences between the 8525 and any other Hermes is purely cosmetic. I've had mine for 6 months, and it's been rock solid.

Thank you, that's good to know. I do have to admit that the price difference is considerable enough that it is tempting.
I would just hate to get one then tomorrow T-Mo/AT&T/some new carrier named grasshopper announces that they are rolling it out in my area.
I'm sure the chances of that happening are about as much as a little man dressed in red starting a brisk trade in ice skates, but one never knows.
Is there any software that makes use of the front camera if one is not using it for video calls?
Oh, I can't seem to find an answer on this one either: Can the hermes make/take a voice call while the data (GPRS/EDGE/whatever) is active?
The 8925/"Tilt" is coming out on Monday. The price difference will likely only be $100 to $150. I'd probably go with the Tilt instead if it is within your budget.
It can take voice calls when the data is active. Most of us probably keep the data connections active all the time.
You can take a call while using data, but if you're on GPRS/EDGE the data will disconnect while you're on the call, but automatically reconnect. If you're in 3G coverage you can use both at the same time. I'm pretty sure that's true for any phone though. I don't believe T-Mobile in the US has rolled out any 3G coverage either.
OK, thanks for all the info. It's given me some things to consider and think about.

Are you buying a Venue Pro?

I'm pretty excited about this phone and after scouring the internet tonight, I can't find **** on new information. It looks like it was showed at the WP7 launch and that's it.
Dell's being very hush hush and that's just making me more and more impatient!
Anyway, are you buying a Venue Pro?
Yes! I have pre-ordered it on Clove. Been looking for a Micro SD card to go with the phone. I am hoping that it can take a class 4 Micro SD as I have my eye on a 32gb SD card to complement the phone.
Roll on 8th November. Hoping that it does not get pushed back but with all of these infromation leaks from Clove it is look more like a reality.
Will want to try the keyboard first. The screen is probably near perfect.
The Dell Venue Pro would have been perfect (for me) if it had:
1) HTC Locations (/ maps)
2) HTCSense.com functionality
3) Flash (as per the HTC Desire HD)

Yeah, I'm also digging the HTC Hub stuff. I bet some XDA devs will be able to port it.
Flash is on the way in Jan 2011, last I heard.
I was planning to get the Dell Nov 8. However I read it won't be available stateside on Nov 8. So I'm looking into a plan B.
Plan C might be a Desire HD. I hope it doesn't co e to that.
I switch to tmobile for it. Pre ordered from Clove but now it seems there version won't support tmobile 3G so emailed to cancel guess I will have to wait. Had picked up a g2 for now but took it back and got the Vibrant. Great phone so I am content for a moment. I like the Vibrant even more than my Captivate I had. Thought they were the same but the tmobile tweaks are great
My guess is that there's just a single model coming out, and it's intended for TMOUS.
HOWEVER, in addition to their own oddball 3G frequencies, TMOUS smartphones generally support world standard (European/Asian) ones also. This enables TMOUS customers to use the phone overseas. Recent example: TMOUS HD2.
So, except for any SIM lock issues, the TMOUS Dell Venue is probably good to go on European networks, and that a "European" Venue Pro is probably a TMOUS one in disguise.
Again, all just a guess.
yes yes and yes
im getting it if it ever gets over seas to Sweden its the perfect phone for me! though it could have been slimmer XD
I plan on getting this if I'm not totally blown away with Gingerbread and/or the new myTouch HD, whichever comes first. This looks like a joy to use. The large 4.1" AMOLED and the portrait qwerty. Looks like they read my mind. Also it WILL have expandable memory, it's similar to the Samsung where you'd hard reset it and it'll recognize the sd card. The caveat is you'll lose all your data every time you change sd cards.
Only wish it supported HSPA+ and had the newer procs. But since I'm connected via wifi more often than not, it doesn't matter much to me, tho it would be nice. As far as the older chips, it could be powered by a hamster and wheel as long as it doesn't hiccup once, I'll be more than happy.

I think it's being released late Nov. as opposed to Nov 8th.
EDIT: Anyone have past experience with Dell phones? How was the build quality / support? I've never owned anything other than HTC smart phones.

This is the first dell phone . They've had handheld devices before (pocket PC's) but the build quality and overall product was terrible (they didn't put much effort into them). This phone is a completely different direction for Dell. Build quality is superb, it's worth every penny.
And unlocked versions are expected to be available in the UK as of November 8.
Battery Life
I am really thinking bout getting this over the HD7, but some reviews were saying that it may have 3 hours of talk time?!!!! If this is at all true with an AMOLED screen, then wow. I know Dell computer batteries suck, hope they used another company for their batteries. I know it isn't out yet, but what are your guys thoughts?
As far as build quality goes, if it feels great at the sotre, then I'll def buy it. I'm mostly looking forward to the stereo speakers and 4.1 inch screen. I've always felt that 4.3 inches might be a little too big for me.

No one has had the Venue Pro in their hands since the WP7 launch day. If you check YouTube, all you'll find are videos of that Dell lady demoing the phone for everyone.
Wherever you heard this 3 hour rumor, I call bullsh**.

Dell computer batteries suck? Wtf have you been buying. My 3 year old Dell Latitude D630 still gets a good 6-7 hours of battery life.
No one has even received a review unit of the DVP yet, so it would be impossible for anyone to conclude that battery life is only 3 hours.
The microsoft site states that the battery life is 7 hours with 14 hours of standby time (if I am reading it correctly).

Alright, thanks. Yea, the site I usually go on just changed their info to 7 hours too. Thats really the only worry I had about the phone.

I'd disagree. I had an Axim X5 and an X50v, and I found the build quality to be fantastic. They were solidly built, hard wearing and all round well designed. Pretty much everything about them gave the impression of solidity. I still have the X50v and the only signs of it being 6 years old is a small amount of the chrome paint has come off the centre button and the battery is knackered (this would happen to any 6-year-old Li-ion battery). When I sold the X5 it had no signs of wear at all. I'm fully expecting the Venue Pro to be the same.
I really love the form factor of this phone. Having a full screen with a slideout keyboard that doesn't go to landscape mode would be perfect! Two issues:
1) The TMo data network in my area, while 3G, is pretty poor
2) Same ol' 1GHz snapdragon processor
So switch to CDMA and toss in one of those fancy dual core Snapdragons and I'll be in line on launch day

Yeah, I am liking the idea of possibly being able to QUICKLY type out a text message with just one hand. If it had a landscape keyboard, it wouldn't be easy to do that.
I have a Dell Streak - and the build quality is brilliant. Its really very very good. If the Venue Pro is anything like that then it will be excellent Im sure.
Battery life on the Streak isnt anything to shout about but its a 5" screen and I had it running some live wallpapers.
I had a play with a HD7 in my local O2 shop and now Im torn! Windows Phone 7 is slick as a bag of oiled up ferrets!

Yep.. all MS needs to do is get an update sent out with a lot of the missing features we all want/need.

Choices, choices

Hi guys. First off; I'm getting a new phone next month and I'm looking to get a wp7 device, but which one?
I've narrowed down two options:
- Htc hd7, £30 p/m 500mb data, unlimited sms and 300mins (Orange network)
- Samsung omnia 7, £30 p/m 1gb data, 5000 sms, 500mins, free Skype calls (Three network)
I know it may seem the omnia is a much better deal, but the screen size and HTC hub are very attractive. So, could owners of both give me some ideas as to which I should take the plunge for?
Thanks in advance.

I was using HTC hero with Orange but the reception for me is really bad (east London).....i can never talk more than 1 minute in my own home.
I recently bought the omnia 7 with T-mobile £35 per month 900 Min and 500 txt including
a flexible booster....i can now talk with ease in my own home.
The Omnia 7 is just beautiful compared to the HTC HD7 beacuse of the SUPER AMOLED screen.....but unfortunately Omnia 7 is only 8 gb but HTC HD7 is 16 gig
I'd go for quality....
I recently got the Onmia 7... very very very nice handset, its very quick it looks stunning and thank god isnt made by HTC.
The memory on the omnia is built into the phone with chips and not Micro SD, this has its pros and cons.
The pros are its very fast, games loader quicker..there are vids on youtube to show this.
The cons - cant upgrade size
The screen is really something to see, its Beautiful
HTC seem to be putting more effort into their android phones than the WP7, which is fair enough its a new product and possibly they dont believe it will sell much, android on the other is has a waiting list on the Desire of 6000 on Orange Uk network, so thats defo a seller they will back.
Ive had a few HTC devices over the last few years and they always seem to come short of being what you want (my personal opinon).
Also the camera on the Onmia is a 5MP and isnt the best but is ok as a happy snapper.. good when you need a quick pic. That being said I think the only handset that has a better one is the HTC Mozart with 8MP.. but if you want something that takes Professional Pics go buy a proper camera from Nikon or Olympus.
Hope this helps
I've had a play with the Omnia 7, and it's a good phone no doubt - the screen really pops, but I actually prefer the LCD on the HD7 for day to day - the Omnia is not realistic and too saturated.
The HD7 has a bigger screen, which if you use it for browsing etc is a big advantage. I found myself reconfiguring my router the other night using the wife's HD7 because she was using the laptop, and it was bloody brilliant I have to say - so easy to do, and definitely feel the extra screen size plays a big part here.
The HD7 is very well made - I've seen some reports to the contrary on here, but I can only imagine people have had bad luck because I can't fault the quality on the HD7.
There are early glitches with it - there always well be, but I'm sure there are with the Sammy as well. The manufacturers will release firmware updates to resolve this.
I would say what do you want the phone for - is storage space important, is size important (either big or small)? Make your decision on that basis as ultimately they are both pretty much the same hardware, and both are the same OS!
Oh, and HTC hub is more of a gimmick really, can't see the point in it overall since you now have the Metro UI instead. It looks nice, but can't see that you'd use it often as it's not the home screen.

Agreed.. new OS's always have bugs.. the Samsung has them too, hope to be sorted soon by Microsoft.
Thanks for all of your responses, I think I'm going to go with the Samsung, I had a look at both devices in store today and the omnia 7 feels far better made and the games loaded much quicker; added to the beautiful screen is a winning combination. Thanks again for your responses I can't wait for my new phone!

I've had both HD7 and Omnia 7 and the Omnia has much better build quality.
Oh and I would recommend going with a different network to 3, I signed up with them as they were the only shop to have a Omnia 7 in, I am not impressed with them at all.

Thanks for the info, I'm not sure I've never been with three and the only other deal that comes close is with orange who I'm currently on and have shocking coverage in my area. My mate who lives down the road has an omnia 7 with three and the signal is great where mine is awful :S

I think it just depends more on where you live. I've been with 3 for the past 12 months and have found the network to be great.
Samsung Omnia 7
Somehow got the £35 month deal 900 min, 500 texts, unlimited landline calls, for £30 a month with t-mobile on a renewal i kept waiting for 3 months for Winmo7 deals. Wanted the HTC Pro 7 when it came out, But couldn't wait any longer
Along with comeradealexi everytime i look at the screen it's amazing. Glad i took it over the HTC. Bright, Crisp, Colour looks great.
I see jip about features such as settings that drain the bat are automaticly disabled like the camera features but i've come to think they work. the bat isn't the GREATEST i've noticed, so anything to keep it alive and kicking longer is A+ in my books.
The audio on the Samsung is amazing, and better than most bluray decoders i'm seeing because of the requirments of this thing.
And i'm glad they went NAND style storage *thumbs up Samsung*, Quicker, Snappy than SD and what you would expect as xbox's use the same style Nand storage but they only use 4gb in the new models, anyone who wants more GBs is just being silly, I'f you get a £500+ smartphone and can't afford Zune Pass while you have the phone then your should get another phone for music or your gonna moan. Simple as that.
Whatever you do, stay away from three. I think you can get an omnia 7 from t-mobile/orange instead.
t-mobile man, they always been good to me, plus we can use oranges signal now whatever that means to more coverage in 2G at least.
Right, found another deal which I'm defo going to go for.
-Free omnia 7
-T-mobile 24month
-600 mins
-500 sms
-Unlimited Data allowance
-Best of all £25 per month!
Thanks again for your responses.

It's not so much the coverage, it's...well, a story:
When I went to O2 to get a HD7 the guy came over right away and we went through the form filling out and he explained everything and it all went smoothly. My number was ported within a few hours and all was good. When I took the phone back they didn't even ask why I wanted to return it they just put it through the till and refunded me all the money. They were great.
Then I went to the 3 store next door, the guy came over soon enough and said he had 1 Omnia 7 left. When I said I would take it we went over to the computers and while we were entering the details in he kept trying to sell me various things, first a router, then 3 home broadband. That was the first thing to annoy me, O2 did not try to sell me anything extra, not even a case.
After all the forms were done I gave him the PAC code and he said my number would be ported within 24 hours, it took 3 days. And even after 3 days it still had call forwarding on for some reason, so I rang the support line and of course the call centres are in India. The support guy couldn't help at all he said just wait longer basically. In the end I had to do the special code thing to get rid of it.

Trade my Note for Galaxy Nexus or HTC OneX

Hey folks, First off, I LOVE my note. It's the only reason I stuck it out this long but to make a long story short it almost left my daughter stranded in a very unfamiliar place yesterday. I am currently on T-mobile and as you know we don't get much love as far as service with the Note. So I put up with the signal bar with a nice pretty little x in it many times because I flat out love my phone even though my wife would have 4 bars of 4g. Well this incident made me realize that while having an awesome phone that barely works as a phone or just about anything else without wifi that having service and signal is more important. So here is what I'm looking for:
Trade: My unlocked galaxy note (Currently running Asylum ICS V09) with black speck case and has liquid armor for display protection.
Want: Galaxy Nexus or and HTC One X ( maybe S for T-mobile as well )
Also willing to sell for $400 flat ( Nothing less will be considered )
So before I go to the craigslist or feebay I wanted to give my trusted XDA people a first shot at it So PM me if interested!
Hopefully I will be seeing you guys in the Note 2 forums one day as I will be dying to get my big momma back
seeing that many people complain about this, let me get it straight,:
can you not use an international unlocked phone in the states? why is everyone complaining about weak signal? it should either work on that frequency or not work at all ,right? so why work with low coverage?
either ways this sucks and is totally unacceptable

Its not that it doesn't work. It's that it doesn't receive the 1700mHz band which T-mobile uses for it's 4g service. It will work fine on other gsm providers in US but unfortunately not on T-mobile until they convert to the 1900mHz band. So I pretty much get Edge wherever I'm at. One of our guys Bedwa has been working hard on getting it to work but there is no guarantees.
that should effect the speed not signal bars? I mean EDGE vs 4G is all about speeds
but you mention being with no coverage at all sometimes ? maybe their 4G coverage is better than 2G? is that it?
also I would suggest you change providers and not the phone ,cause you'll miss it

I used to work for AT&T so I refuse to go back to them lol. I know I will miss this beast, and I don't know the ins and outs of signal strength, I just know my wife has great service and laughs at me when I can barely send a text. If I wasn't invested into 3 lines of 2 year contracts with T-mobile however I would be gone in a heartbeat but I don't have the funds to quit right this minute. So I will reluctantly wait for the Note 2 and be back as soon as it releases
well then, good luck to you sir in buying your next phone
Both are good choices. If you like a pure experience go for the Nexus, if you like Sense go for the HTC One X.

Yeah, I did quite a bit of research before I decided what I would "step down" to before I posted. I actually like both devices very much. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages that I can easily work with. So like I said, if anyone knows someone who has either device but wants to get their hand on a note. Im up for the transaction
If I were you I would avoid the One X. The reason I got my note was because of HTC's ineptitude.
I PM'ed you.
OP, maybe the phone is faulty? What is your location? If you have any older Android phones, put your sim card in it, and force the Android phone to stick to EDGE/2G connections only to test the signal. If your older Android phone gets a single just fine, something is wrong with your Note.
I'm in the same predicament as you in terms of being on T-Mobile. Thankfully, I'm always within the area of WIFI. In terms of GPS, I just use the lab feature in googlemaps to precache map areas....and it works!
P.S. Open a thread in the marketplace. And be wary of anyone "PM-ing" you. Take the whole sale to the marketplace before doing anything just to be safe. And pay attention to any offers you get, and the person who is making the offer and their joining date. Good luck.
I just got hold of a Note after getting the One X. I wasn't entirely happy with the One so it will be going on ebay. The One has a great screen, and the f2.0 camera lens made taking low light photos easy. The downsides of the phone however are numerous in my opinion.
Design - the layout makes it hard to wake the phone one handed, as the power button is tiny and the capacitive home button doesn't wake it. The front camera is recessed, which makes it a grime magnet. The rear camera protrudes, making it a scratch magnet
Camera - excellent lens and camera app, average at best sensor (I actually think the Note takes better photos), poor quality HD video
Sound - forget all the Beats audio marketing hype, the One X has the worst sound quality out of any phone I've ever owned. The amount of hiss/crackles coming from the DAC make it sound like a long wave radio. I use my phone a lot for music, so this really put me off the One X.
Battery - in standard form the battery was terrible. The only way I could get a full day from it was to install a custom rom, reduce the auto brightness levels (which are blindingly high by default), turn off all push notifications and disable 2 of the 4 cpu cores. It also took 4 hours to charge!
Performance - very quick, but probably too quick for what the hardware can take. The phone gets incredibly hot when gaming to the point where the screen is almost too hot to touch. If you try and game while it's charging, you'll be greeted with a message telling you the phone is too hot and whatever you're playing will be terminated.
All these things made me try the Note. While it's not as snappy as the X and doesn't have a screen that's as nice as the X, it still performs well, still has a decent screen, better designed, has much better audio and has a phenomenal battery.
I think I'll be sticking with it
I use my note on tmobile I always have service sometimes I notice 1 bar but mostly have 3

Yeah I checked into all that. When I am at my buddies house I get perfect 4g service. I just can't stand the edge stuff. However I did not realize you could pre cache map data. That's awesome!! So thanks for heads up
The problem sounds like T-Mobile. Why not use your phone on Straight Talk, which is basically AT&T. I get excellent service on my Note. I highly recommend any AT&T compatible phone on Straight Talk. My wifes iPhone 4S works great on it as well. $45 a month unlimited everything, 4G speeds, not like T-Mobile's very slow speeds.
