Google talk app authentication failed? - Epic 4G General

I have not made any changes to my phone, no app downloads or deletions or anything. However, for the last couple of days I keep getting the notification mentioned in the title. Any suggestions as to causes and fixes. Thanks

Yes I can still log in to gmail. Don't know of any other programs that might be doing this either.

I usually get this when first flashing cm7 and gapps..usually cause it other than that I'm uncertain why it could be causing this.
I would try updating your profile and the prl and see if that helps reboot after wards and it should re authorize your account.

I too get it on a clean flash on some ROMs. Once I got it to sync everything on gmail it finally stopped. But to get it all of a sudden is weird. Maybe uninstall and reinstall talk?

This is the one out of the latest Gapps...push it to system\app and reboot.

Ok, downloaded the file, tried to install and it said "there is a problem parsing the package" don't know what that means. Tried moving the apk to the system/app folder with root explorer and it said "cannot paste because the file system is read only" don't know what that means either. what do I do now?

You have to hit the little tab at the top right corner in Root Explorer and change the system folder from R/w to R/O. Then paste it.

Ok, got it in the system/app folder, still getting the parsing problem when I select install, what next? Btw thank you so much for your help and patience with me
sent from my frozen red block of kryptonite using tapatalk

if you pasted the talk.apk into /system/app then just reboot your phone, it should automatically come up after the reboot.

Rebooted, still no sign of talk in app drawer. Used root explorer, opened system/app folder, selected talk.apk, selected install, still getting "parsing error", what next?

Reflash the ROM or restore from Titanium. Something weird is going on.

going to try reflashing the ROM tonight, I'll let you know how it all goes

Reflashing, didn't,help.,ended,up,flashing sleeperrom instead. after a little while authentication error started happening again. Just noticed that it has affected my market too. I can't get any apps our games, it causes an error 101. Ugh

Mines updated... but I just realized none of my downloads are showing up in the market.
I found that edited apks (themed or otherwise) cause updates to not install correctly. Have you tried uninstalling gmail altogether and then reinstalling?
try using rom manager's file permissions fix that helped me with some apps that were failing upgrades. (assuming your rooted of course)
also... try using root explorer, navigate to system/app change to r/w permissions.
delete the gmail.apk, reboot to recovery and wipe dalvik. Reboot and re download from market. Hope this helps

Help installing CM9 music player

I really like the CM9 player but I'm having trouble installing it. I followed a guide that said back up music.apk then delete it with root browser, then install CM9 music player. It worked, it successfully installed but I just used it and halfway thru one song my phone froze. I did a battery pull, when it rebooted, it said "sorry, music has stopped working" and it says that every time. Someone help?

Cm9 is an entire ROM. If you want that, boot into recovery and format system and data, and then wipe cache and dalvik cache. Then you'll have a clean slate to install the ROM onto.
If you want just the music player, yes you can use titanium to uninstall then try putting the music player in system/app changing the permissions to rw, r, r, installing and rebooting.

I use root explorer, but you can use terminal emulator as well. If you can't afford Root Explorer, I'd suggest you hook, steal or kill to get the money. Totally worth it.
Anyway, using Terminal Emulator, type in these lines and hit "return" between each:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cd /system/app
chmod 644 Music.apk
There are alternate, shorter methods, but this one is fun.
I used jrummy root explorer lite and I just replaced the file with the cm one and renamed it to music.apk after that I set permissions rebooted and set permission on cwm and it was working perfectly though I don't use it (stock ics player is awesome) it works just fine.

I can't delete any files on my nexus 7?

My nexus 7 had slowed down recently. So I was advised by someone here to reinstall the stock rom. So I backed everything up that was on it and installed the latest version of android (4.2.2). It worked. It's not slow anymore. But there's one problem. I can't delete any files on it using es file manager. I get a message saying "cannot delete some files. Please make sure that your storage is not mounted as read-only". I don't know what that means. Can someone help me?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You can delete unwanted files straight from TWRP Recovery. TWRP > Advanced > File Manager >SD Card > Select Items > Delete.
Well that worked. But it's too much trouble to have to go into TWRP just to delete a file. Why can't I delete it with ES file explorer like I could before I reinstalled the stock rom?

And SU or SuperSU (whichever) is active, with root permissions being granted as needed?
Depending on where you're working you may need to ask for write and mount privileges through terminal.
For example if working in /system:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
Caution do not do this if you are not experienced. You may damage your system.

Hm weird. Under the assumption that you are doing everything correctly, it should work as superuser permissions supersedes all and any limitation unless the file is open preventing it from being written to. If that's the case you will have to go through recovery as Username invalid suggested to edit the file.

I just tried that. Unfortunately it didn't work. And it gets worse. It seems like I can't do anything to the file system at all. Meaning I can't create a new file or folder. And I can't edit or delete what's already there. I haven't tried to download anything yet. But that probably won't work either. This is terrible.

I returned to stock with the nexus 7 toolkit. It does everything for you. But it doesn't seem to help with this. Anyway I looked at those apps, and root explorer is $4.00. I don't mind paying for it. But I want to know if it's a necessity to have before I buy it.
The other app (terminal emulator) has multiple versions by different companies. How do I know which one to get? Here are some:
Android terminal emulator by jack palevich
Terminal emulator by cityapp
Shell terminal emulator by mobildev
Terminal IDE by Spartacus Rex
There are even more, those are the free ones.

You should have had a look at your log file or have been done the update while running logcat, in that case you would see the exact error message / the file the updater is complaining about.

The updater doesn't find XT9IME.apk on your /system partition. Due to that it's failing. If you have a copy of the file, try to install it in recovery mode to /system/app and try to apply the update again.

Sorry for being such a pain in the ass but under system/xbin I only have
daemonsu
daemonsu-old
dexdump
su
Nothing busybox related.
I've done a full search using ES File Explorer of my local files - 0 results found for busybox.
This may or may not have anything to do with the update issue but it's worth a try. Sometimes the damensu-old file will remain in xbin after unroot. Next time before unrooting uninstall any play store update to the supersu app then unroot from settings in supersu. After you unroot use es file explorer to confirm that the only file left in xbin is dexdump. Then try the ota update.
