Stock B50 here, I ICS'd successfully and it preserved everything. It will take a long time so keep it on the charger, when it's done you'll get a beep and the lock screen. It was really worth the wait, gps locked on in less than 10 sec, 9/9 within 26 feet. Now I'll have to decide if I really want to root. Thanks for the info, will save me time.

Not a complete scrub at this but for some reason I can't get the ADB drivers to load up on my Win7 x64 machine, followed driver install instructions for ViperMod, etc, etc...so if someone can hit me in the head with a shovel that'd be great...thx...

Now that we can disable bloatapps in app settings, is it really worth it to root? I managed to speed up some apps with forcegpu so that solves some speed issues. I have no intent on loading costom roms and whatnot, just want to able to do some maintaince

After all this time finally get it rooted!!!!!! How excited!

Worked perfectly
My method:
- Root HC tf101 using option 3
- Install and run Root checker basic to confirm root
- Install and run OTA Rootkeeper
- Push OTA ICS update
- Run Root checker basic (fails)
- Run OTA Rootkeeper
- Run Root checker basic (confirms root)
Thanks to all the devs!!

Worked perfectly on TF101 b40 after ICS update.
Used Option 1 successfully...very simple...Thanks

i rooted last night my tf101 ICS with the ViperMOD method and everything is ok, i made some modifications, unninstall some apps, and now the tablet move fast and without any problems until now.

All you need to do now is install CWM recovery and flash whatever ROM you like.
Search for RecoveryInstaller app in theme and app section

B60 with SBK1 here. I've only used this tool, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104 to root my TF, HC and ICS.

I don't know what's going on but NON of these methods have worked. I also noticed that the Asus App Backup doesn't work either. No matter what app I try to do it the backup fails. I'm sure that has something to do with it. For some reason I do have CW 3.1.0.1 as my recovery What's even more odd is whenever I boot up, it goes right to CW. The only way I can boot into Android is if I boot into the bootloader and load Android from there.

About to purchase a Transformer it has 3.1 can it be rooted without downgrading/

I am about to purchase a Transformer and I have read in some threads that it is recommeded to downgrade to 3.0 to root. Is this mandatory or is there now a root system out now that will root Honeycomb 3.1? I believe the new Transformer comes with 3.1 Thanks in advance for the info.
There may be another method but I know 100% this is doable with the nvflash method I did my second out out of the box in the car and it took 3 minutes. No USB file copy, network connection needed.
I personally haven't tried the method explained here but it should work nicely.
yes in less than 15 minutes (not counting download time)
With my Tegra G2x, you basically just launch NVFlash and flash ClockworkMod on it. Once you got that, you can do whatever. I don't even think root is required at that low of a flash.
In short, you need not to downgrade to root.
Check the developers subforum for a 3.1 root thread. It easy and straightforward.
Regards.
This works flawlessly. Done 4 TFs with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125714
Disregard what everybody is saying in this thread.
+1 to player and ewitte (though)
Just use NVFlash and you can flash yourself onto PRIME 1.5 with a one click step after installing drivers.
It's 1000000 times easier and less effort.
Link to thread is HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
The link given in OP is PRIME 1.4, you can find a .tar.bz2 of PRIME 1.5 or whatever ROM you want to flash and do it like that. Or use the one in OP and then flash another ROM on top of it afterwards.
PRIME 1.4 is based on Android 3.1 as well.
Instead of reading a book on how to root it.
the tl;dr for NVFlash is,
1) download NVflash.zip
2) download the ROM you want to flash (it has to be in .tar.bz2 form)
3) put asus tf101 in apx mode
4) install nvidia drivers
5) double click this thing (in the zip) and watch it do work.
in the thread I linked there is a video in there as well.. the file you need to double click is also in that thread, it was just my lazy instructions.

Funny way to say it. OP is asking about rooting, you answer with flashing Prime 1.5, and the answers about rooting have to be disregarded...
Prime is ok, but what if he just wants to stay stock and root. I still don't see why any rooting answer has to be ignored.

Thanks so much for all of the input but am only interested in rooting at the moment. At least until I decide whether or not it is a keeper. The unit I have is still 3.0.1. Are there still OTA's being pushed out to 3.1? I would like to install 3.1 and then root. Thanks again for all of the replies.

You can either wait for OTA or go to the ASUS website and download the firmware. Instructions are also included on the site. You will need a microSD card.

I did the downgrade and root method and didn't even lose data. It's seriously easy. Follow the instructions.

I can't seem to find the instructions. Thought they were stickied to main page but don't see them. I have 3.2 and would like to either downgrade and load rooted 3.2 or even just downgrade so I can root 3.1 and use that again.

Understatement of the century there. Takes about twenty minutes, including the time it takes to search the dev forum using the phrase "downgrade 3.2". You don't even need a PC, you can do it all using the tablet.
@ingrouille, it's in the development forum:

Then I would recomend [ROM] Rooted Stock HC 3.2 US Rom for CWM only (5-oct-11)

It's a stock rom that is already rooted, flashed through CWM.

ugh, can't seem to revert. tried method two a multitude of times but I get the android logo with the yield/exclamation point each time.
wonder whats going on. checked formatting, the zip itself, the card is recognized by the tab, hmmm. any ideas? I've seen a few other people are having this issue also.

So... you basically cooked up your own rom and added SU to it.
To anyone else who needs to root just download kekinash's stock rom with superuser, it's the exact same thing as this without the steps just flash and you have rooted 3.2.
And you are in a small group of people that have SD card issues, I've owned 2 Iconia a500's and neither had a single SD issue.
It wasn't me
It was timmyDean who added root for stock 3.2. he described how to get root in adb shell only (the very first post in the thread I posted)
The way to add superuser for applications was described by chrishohl on the 3rd page of the same thread
Following his how-to one can get the rooted stock 3.2 without downgrade.

Nope, I haven't any issues with SD card, the only goal for now is 3G USB modem kernel modules. I haven't find any modules for the stock 3.2 kernel version.
Those for 3.1 failed to load with insmod since they had been built for another kernel version.

[Q] Can 3.2 Stock Out of the box be rooted and how?

I just rec'd the new A500 8Gb version that already has 3.2 installed. So this is not the normal 3.2 OTA, which maybe the same. Don't know how to confirm.
I have read so many posts that appears to be rooting instructions for 3.0 and not for 3.2. I see one Thread that had instructions on how to root a OTA 3.2 but the instructions even says will take 1.5hrs. I have rooted tablets/phones before and i know it doesn't take that long and don't want to lose data.
I don't want to install a custom rom just so i can be rooted. I just want to root this tablet and i don't want to downgrade the bootloader.
Can anyone please point me to the correct thread or simply let me know if rooting is currently out of the question for this scenerio.
im on the same page, just picked up the 3.2 from costco.. A little common sense points me and you in the direction of downgrading to the 3.0.1.. Then bumping up to the rooted 3.2.. its not a one click solution but it makes complete sense..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
im doing it as i write this let you know my success..
Yeah I have read that an option is to downgrade to 3.0, root then go to 3.2. Guess i'm waiting on a short version that will root stock 3.2 and it doesn't make sense to me to go back only to go up versions of rom for this alternative route.
lol its data, not like your trading in your new car for a 87 nova.. Downgrade is for exploit access only as soon as root --> update recovery ---> flash rom you will be right back to 3.2..
:-/
anyways method 2 works.. did it in 15 minutes cause i got distracted..
good luck waiting for ur 1 click
cool, so i guess this is the best solution for now....i'll do the same.

Thx for the heads up guys, i did install the acer recovery. Now i know why you need it since that 3.0 downgrade is very unstable. I did manage to root, install CWM and flashed a 3.2 rom.

I just got my eee pad back from rma. It appears to be a different device. Where the serial number should be is covered with a white sticker was a serial number starting with B80. Do you think it would be safe to root with razorclaw or otherwise?
Also would it be possible to install a rom like revolver?

RazorClaw has nothing to do with build number.
You have to be on .19 firmware for RC to work.
You could also try NachoRoot which work with all firmware up to .21

Yes i've done quite a bit of research and I noticed I'd need to downgrade to .13 then upgrade to .19 with a 101g firmware which might stop you from getting some market apps. I'm alittle lost of what to do after that. If I used nacho root and wanted to install revolver. I'd think I need to install clockwork then add a rom. Is that correct? Does a guide exist on this?
Thanks

Yes try with NachoRoot first. Once you have achieved root, use RecoveryInstaller
to install CWM recovery.

Thanks for all the help I'm feeling alittle less nervous about doing this. Could I just ask 3 more quick questions. Is overclocking the cpu (i'm not sure how everyone does it) dangerous in a sense that it could damage it? Also when ICS will I be able to update my revolver when it is released by the revolver dev? And finally if I do decide to go through with this can I remove any traces if I need to send it in for a non-rooting related issue?
Thanks

no you should be fine as long as you dont go to high i seen other forum members push there tf101 s to 1.5ghz, and thats about as far as i would go my self.
i don't know about revolver as i have not messed with roms/recovery/kernels yet but i would think that the dev would work on a ics release.
yes you can heres a link to an unrooting guide Easy [UNROOT] it show how to install a stock rom and stock recovery.
I ordered my transformer yesterday, it will arrive in 2 days.
I have a question :
1) If I plan to use a custom rom (prime or revolver), do I need to root it first or just install the rom zip?
1a) stock device comes with recovery console, but clock work mod is a modified version with extra features?
1b) from what I understand, stock console accepts only signed zips, while clockworkmod accepts unsigned zips?
2) If I root the stock original rom, will it continue to receive updates? Will root survive them?
I want to have a working tablet ready for ics, with root as a must, I need to backup and restore my apps and exchange them with my Android-ed HTC HD2.

1a: yes
1b:i don't know if the stock only accepts signed zips but clockwork will accept un signed.
1: i'm pretty sure its stock rom->rooted stock rom->clockwork recovery->custom rom
2: a rooted stock rom will continue getting updates but it might break root, i was told to install OTA root keeper to back up and protect my root.

Who cares how you get root?!
Well, of course everyone has a copy of Windows conveniently located. I mean, it's a law, isn't it?

Thanks

Thanks mate. I have been checking every day since the initial release. Now I can quit doing so until May 17 then.
Was looking every where to see if anyone in Australia had received it.
Cheers.
EDIT: this is not quite true. My tab notified me of the update a couple of hours ago. I am still downloading now.
