ICS, one word - disappointing - Eee Pad Transformer General

The firmware have lags and very slow sometimes,
Bluetooth mouse doesn't work, there is alot of good things (the browser is awesome)
But I expected from Asus to release a stable firmware
It's not just me, I saw alot of people complains
Can't wait for the revolver rom

Lol. All the complaining and anticipation and this is the outcome.
Mine is fine. Nothing earth shattering, but it's nice to have.

I expected that after the ICS on 201 caused major problems. Right now I'm happy with the HC, will just sit back and relax while the problem reports are posted here.

Don't worry, they'll announce another fix that will fix the fix.

I suggest doing a factory reset after upgrading. ICS was abysmal for me until I did the reset. Now it runs very smoothly.

No complaints so far

ICS, four words. 1) Sticky 2) Please 3) use 4) it

Lol...have you not used it on another devise¿.... I am not even going to update..To many little bugs...to many apps not supported.... The craziness for it is beyond me. ...

Having used ICS for all of an hour I have to say that my tablet might have finally taken over my laptop for most used device. ICS on the Transformer makes this device fly like it was slathered in butter and shot out of a cannon.

For me it runs like a beast (US build) . Its by far faster than I expected after trying out paulbortons build (which will probably see great improvements now that the official update is here). There's no input lag, touchscreen is very responsive, apps open fast (on the second run. You need to let them initialize on the first run) and screen transitions are snappy and without any lag.

I am going to try now to wipe and install all from stretch
I hope its will help

I LOVE ICS! The Chrome Beta browser is awesome, the design very crisp and overall very snappy. Only Google+ keeps crashing and since it's built into the system I just disabled it... I will see over time what works/doesn't work.

Before you complain...
RESET YOUR DEVICE.
This will fix 99.9% of any problem you can experience.

Has anyone got a problem where wifi sleep policy won't keep its setting? Or is it just a case of doing a reset again?

Will do. I just blew up my Touchpad trying out some camera libraries so once it is reloaded I will get this back on and get some good testing in.
Mental note: Grabbing random libraries from rootzwiki and putting them in your system folder is usually a recipe for trouble...but a good excuse to get upgraded to a new rom release
Edit: Ok, back in the game and on the latest CN release (0.1.0v2 ODEXED)
I am running Touchscreen Test now and so far it is tracking 10 points without any issues. Jittering and jumping that I saw before seem to have gone away and I am left with much smoother lines. Still jagged but smoother overall.
Typing on thumb keyboard is showing some improvements in accuracy and so far I have yet to get a double typed letter.
One mini-golf game I play alot does seem to be improved. I have not had the jumping issue that I use to have randomly.
So far no negative effects. Fruit Ninja is up next for testing
I have noticed that with this, my Touchpad no longer has a tendency to select something that is right above the area I touched.
V11 for CM9 had just been posted. No changes to touchscreen but code added that may save some battery life.

Sounds good, how does the screen react to let's.say moving icons or.widgets? In my current state it becomes rather less responsive when holding something down to move or organize .

Perfect timing. My only complaint so far was the decrease in battery life. Updating now.
Thanks, the TP seems more responsive
The TP seems more touch responsive. ..At times it seemed I had to hit an icon a number of times before the TP would respond. ..much better now! Thanks!
forgive the noob question here, but going to the link I don't know what it is I'm supposed to be looking for. Is there a zip file I should be flashing? A tutorial for finding the right files through github? What do I download?
Edit: nevermind. Helps if I read the directions.

I have no problems with ICS..How about you?

Not bragging, just a contrast. Also not trying to advocate. But, that said, i did an earnest Ota update, getting great results. No force closes, the few quirks that it has are no worse or more noticeable than any other ROM, screen flicker, touch errors etc, i don't expect everything to be perfect ( it is a man made device, nothing is perfect) but it is greatly improved.
ICS made the device responsive and customizable enough to forgive the dead pixels and the dust under my camera's lens. Happy with my decision to buy a tf101 instead of the 201.
Same. I am not getting my panties wet over ICS but I have no complaints.
No screen tearing/flickering, no battery drain, no force closes, no random reboots.
It's literally just as stable as it was before ICS.
I did do a factory reset before flashing the rooted ICS rom with CWM.
However, I did notice some lag and screen flickering immediately after upgrading.
Did a cold reboot and that seems to have fixed it.
Same with me. No problems with ICS. Everything just so so much better. Very very fast and smooth. I formatted the system in CWM as well as all the usual wipes (cache, dalvik etc) before I installed and that was almost two days ago now.
No issues. ICS rocks! The chrome browser is awesome also I must say. Its my default browser already even in beta.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
love ICS, installation was smoth, everything works OK,
But I got two random reboots in two days - this is a mayor issue that hope will be fixed asap.
Happy overall.
+1... no problems here either ..
My TF has improved by at least a 100% from HC! .. and its not even custom roms yet! ..
couldn't be happier ...
everything is ok until now
Little pointless treahd but no i haven't had any problem with the OS it self.
No major issues
Well everything seems to be fast n responsive to me. Battery life has also noticeably improved. Was initially disappointed with stock browser and Chrome, but ICS Browser + solved the issue. Encountered a couple of FC's for Asus Task Manager, but otherwise is very good. Overall pretty happy camper here
I am satisfied with ICS, it was the main reason I got the TF101 2 weeks ago: I bought it in an offer from local Amazon with the intention of returning it in 30 days if ICS is not out or if the things promissed with it were not real, BUT:
I went with the full CWM update, no issues, no FC, no random reboots, no unusual battery drain, for now the only 2 problems seems to be a rare screen flicker once in a while (mostly occurring when trying Live wallpaper), and the non-working USB, but I don't care as I don't use it: I sync the files I need with a NAS storage and "ES File Manager". There is a zip that fix it, but I don't need it for now, waiting for revolver 4.
in general, I am 90% satisfied with ICS, while with HC I was less than 50% satisfied.
Update:
USB fixed, 91% satisfied now.
With ICS the Transformer is working like it shold have when its released. Im so happy that the "beta times" with Honeycomb are over.
Flashed the full stock Asus package via CWM with full wipe and had no reboots, flickering or FCs.
Best OS that my Transformer has ever seen.

No problems here... No reboots, no other quirks... I did an official ICS update and then rooted and Cwm... I have believe that is the crucial difference between those having problems and those not.

Am I allowed to post?
I have a couple of issues but I trust ASUS to issue further updates to handle them.
The last Honeycomb update seemed to cause some extra random hanging so I am glad to be off that.
Today I noticed one of my apps was hanging due to an unsupported operation exception. Bit annoying but the browser improvements alone are worth a temp problem in one or two apps.
For me its great. Much faster.
Hi guys , for me everything is fine except the sound ! The sound is lower than HC particularly in Skype, youtube, video etc. Notifications and games sound is good.
Has anyone similar problem ?

Disagree with this post, as the threads have been a nonstop ***** and moan season for some on their problems.
This is a useful thread as if enough people write up in it that they have had little or no problems with the upgrade from the main ROMs used,
Then the Minority that do have problems can be rest assured that usually with the right advice... They can get a clean stable OS going..
+ 1 on mine.. No major problems.. If anything I am experiencing better picture/screen resolution..
Don't know why but it looks sharper and depth of color is a little better..
Tapatalk was grainy on the white background.. Now it's sharp..

I have found that Asus has put the governor modules to go from interactive when on to conservative when in deep sleep. This is what is causing the random DS issues. Reinstalled SetCPU and put governor to interactive to overuse Asus module and all is well.

Is it worth flashing?

So guys I was asking myself "is it worth flashing?". Why you ask? Well because if I took a look in the development section and it doesn't look like any of the current roms out are stable and they all seem to have many know issues. So I would like to know what you have flashed and how you like the experience compares to stock rom?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I have flashed a bunch of roms on this tab. Most of them are stable now. ALL of them running ics are better than the honeycomb touchwiz that comes pre installed. The only caveat I say to you, is that the camera still isn't working on the roms I've been using as my dailies. (Aokp and Nightlies) If that's a deal killer for you, then stay away from the ics builds for now. But I can tell you as someone who has a 2 year + old Droid Incredible running ics AND this tab running ics, I can never go back. Its just THAT good. Especially on this tab where it Truly shows off the big improvements on the OS.

Ah OK. (Just realised you're right)
I'm using overcome 2.3.1. It's not ics. It's pretty nice. Went from multiple daily reboots to 3 or 4days of uptime. I use it a lot for reading, browsing, netflix, remote mgmt of servers and it holds up well. I bought 3 Samsung docks and have it hooked up to my home theater for music via hdmi, on my nightstand (ditched the tv in the bedroom) and another in my office. I wouldn't have been able to keep it without a rom. Give it a shot. Take your time and read up, it's pretty simple. I'm kinda pissed they made such a great tablet and put such a horrible buggy os on it.
I saw all the comments here suggesting to throw a rom on it to improve performance but I didn't put much stock in it. It's not an exaggeration. You have to ditch the tw launcher too. I'm using Go's tablet edition. I guarantee you will not go back to stock. I chose overcome because it's really stable. No point trying to escape bugs and using a buggy rom.
Getting off my soapbox now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yes that was one of my major concerns of ics. I'm running dark sides evolution 2 beta 3 on my sgs2. But when I came here to read about the 10.1 ics versions I was kind of sad. Because like it was said the 10.1 is awesome but cannot be used on stock w/o mods. I really just want to get on a stable release that doesn't have this issue where you could only charge your tab with the wall charger. I need a different kernal.

With Task v14, I feel that the Galaxy tab is vastly improved from the stock bloatware.
I don't really care about ICS on the Galaxy. Task 14 is so good, I don't see ICS as improving much. I have ICS running on HP Touchpad and Kindle Fire, right now.
it's nice, but IMHO not really worth all of the hype over an optimized GB ROM. YMMV.
Task v 14 is really great, highly recommend it over any ics roms.

my $.02: My use-case for my tablet is almost entirely at home. I have the Wi-Fi only model, so I don't do a lot of "mobile" stuff with it. I have a Galaxy Nexus phone which I generally carry everywhere.
What I thought: As a techie, I want everything to be fully working just because, and as a result I cannot accept a tablet without a working camera!
Real Life: I use my tablet for IM, web browsing, reading comics, and playing games, generally around the house or while commuting. That's actually it. Number of times I did a video chat on my tablet: 1. Number of times I actually wanted to video chat on my tablet: maybe 2. Because I work with a Galaxy Nexus all the time, having the same OS & ROM on both devices is honestly nicer / easier / more lazy-friendly. Its honestly pretty slick to have Chrome syncing across my computers, my phone, and my tablet.
I recently tried to go back to Honeycomb since I once again thought "gee maybe I should use the camera on my tablet". Honeycomb just feels like ICS with training wheels on it I really don't like it as much. This probably as much a placebo effect as anything. Also, the camera isn't as good as my Galaxy Nexus or my actual camera, and I feel like a douche holding my tablet up to take a picture. Would being able to Skype on my tablet be cool? Yes. Would I use it that often? No.
I'm going back to AOKP damnit. I can deal with a non-working camera for a while.
And GPS??? My device doesn't have mobile data, so it really doesn't matter to me that much, even though I thought it would.
Bottom Line: You can back all your stuff up, and you're not out anything, so why not try it?

Performance issues on new Tf300 running build. 26

I just received a brand new Tf300 a few days ago. It is the first tablet I have ever owned and don't know if the performance issues I am experiencing are actually common among other tablets. Whenever I quickly switch from one app to another, the device slows down and then I get a pop up message telling me to wait for the app or force close it. The problem gets worse when I am downloading stuff in the background. I have never had this problem before with any of the 4 android phones I have owned. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?

Trying doing a cold boot. It also depends on what apps you are using, some might not be complete compatible. A lot of people are having problems with google chrome, also the stock browser is kind wonky. Suggest using Dolphin or Opera.
I havent seen the issue you mentioned personally yet on my TF300, however it has been mentioned a few times on other sites & reviews.
It seems to have something to do with the I/O communication to the memory while downloading/installing multiple things at once through Google Play. Its been said to have an impact on OS performace and that the "wait or FC" message is common. Just hit wait and it will be fine.
If its happening when you are idle...Id say something is running in the background you dont know about and using memory.

I did try a cold boot once and it sisnt so anything, really. I also never actually tried running the stock browser. Immediately after turning on the device, I downloaded Quick ICS Browser. Also, I'm not are if the browser is the main problem affecting the performance, as I seem to be having this issue even when downloading from the market or switching through apps.

I actually have been doing this, but honestly I don't think this is something we should have to do after paying $400 for a brand new tablet that I would assume would be in perfect working condition right out of the box :-/
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I have not had any problems switching from apps, even while updating several apps at once on the market. I guess since your Pad is practically brand new, just give it a a day or two of use and see if that helps settle down the system (with a couple of reboots in between). In worst case scenario, I would say exchange it for a new one.

Im not exactly sure that one would consider it a defect. I think its just an example with how the OS performance is affected while installing multiple apps at one time.
Id say you could avoid the problem by installing only a couple things at one time. I have an HTC phone and the same thing happens when I try to install from Google Play and tinker with other stuff at the same time.

You're probably right. Maybe it is the fact that most apps on the market are primarily made for Android phones, not android tablets. I will uninstall all apps and see if I can install one by one to see if I can find out which ones are the ones giving me problems.

Ok so I ended up doing a factory reset. Started from scratch and the problem persisted from the get go. I really don't understand why I am having this issue with a brand new device...

it will speed up, but will it solve the performance disk problem? wiill the system still slowdown during multiple processes, for example surfing internet while downloading apps from market?
I've been having exact same problems on prime (tf201) ... and on top of than random reboots, shut-offs, battery discharging, and non working gps (hardware problem)...
I came to a conclusion that asus sucks... here is why: i have two phones running ICS, and neither has this issues, and both are MUCH faster than prime / tf300 - so it is purely a bunch of software bugs, and asus had SO much time to fix them, and still people across the board have these same problems with transformers
long story short - i retuned prime, and was/am considering tf300... but it looks like i will pass..., although i really like the dock

I DONT Have those issues with my prime. not everyone has them across the board. while some do, slot don't. GPS works great with the dongle Asus sent out for free. alot of the reported issues on both prime and 300 have been reported by various other tablets and phones running ICS. doesn't matter if your two phones don't. its still widely documented ICS issues across the board on most devices running ICS. this is more of a Google issue THST needs addressing. Google is the one who created ICS. these problems are limited to only Asus tablets. just Google ICS issues and tons of hits will pop up across several different devices. Google is the one who needs to step it up and address this.
Asus is a manufacturing company. they make hardware, not software. they still try to do the best they can to solve software issues. Even Asus getting frustrated because they having to try to fix stuff THST Google should be addressing, software wise.
OK, I just had to come back after a week of using and tinkering with my TF300 and after having it factory reseted and doing a cold boot reset it now works FLAWLESSLY. I love this tablet and I have downloaded tons of games that look beautiful on it. The only thing I wish were present were a bigger selection of tablet-friendly apps on the market. I also wish Google would allow us to search apps that are designed for tablets only. I have tried using the Tablified Market app and it is just too slow in my opinion and it has no option to sort by most popular or highest rated.

Were you experiencing the issue of slow performance when installing apps from the Play Store and if so did the factory reset fix it? I'm plagued by the issue where updating/installing apps kills my TF300.

When I got my TF300 I was having a similar issue. I went on app manager and cleared cache and data from the Launcher and it did the trick.

I actually have been doing this, but honestly I don't think this is something we should have to do after paying $400 for a brand new tablet that I would assume would be in perfect working condition right out of the box :-/

Could not agree more! I'm going to return mine tomorrow as not happy with it at all...I am getting the Wait\Force Close message constantly and totally sick of it since getting this tablet almost two weeks ago!
Cheers,
M
I can confirm the tabledt lags on powersaving mode but on balance and performance mode I have no issue. I used to experience this issues for the first day but after a few restarts its now working flawless , its just that powersaving mode sucks when multi tasking

This is my reply to the first post... I had exactly what you had, cold vooted several times with no results.
I had to send mine back to amazon.
Second unit? PERFECT.
This thing flies. Now I can see the 4 cores.
I own a Galaxy Note, and it was faster than my tablet. Now my tablet is faster, as it should (not WAY too fast, but indeed faster)
Good Luck

Official TF300T Jelly Bean Impressions

I haven't gotten the update yet but for those who have, please share impressions. Good, bad or whatever. Given how underwhelming stock ICS is on this tab, I wonder how stock JB stacks. I'm glad this is officially out because chances are I'll resort to an official JB custom ROM that'll make this tab sing than stick with stock.
JellyBean is here!

Just got the update. I've tooled around just a few minutes, but other than the unlock function, I can't really see much different. It definitely is not an overwhelming change like ICS was for me. I'll come back with more as I spend more time with it.
I am looking forward to installing Google Now, however, that would be great on my Razr Maxx too.
Google now didn't come with update?!?!?

thanks, it talks back to you, right?
Isn't Google now an in built feature? Should be somewhere in the notification drawer.
No love for the European TF300s.. :S just checked for update but found nothing, do any of you guys have clue when the European updates might be incoming?
Yeah it talked back to me stating the weather forecast.

The interface hasn't changed but after my second reboot, this thing is runniing SO much faster. I can actaully update apps from the play store without the dreaded Wait/Close prompt. Transitions are much smoother (Animation for changing Home Screens and swipping through my app list.

Some changes i've noticed:
- it runs smoother than .30, really smoother, at least smoother. i noticed slow-ness when open quickoffice hd in power saving mode when it was .30, now with the same power saving mode, it's faster (like about 2-3 seconds), quickoffice is kinda a heavy apps i think, of course you won't have any problem in balanced or performance mode.
- new animation when open or exit apps, and i like it, of course the animation runs smooth too
- you can now disable the smartdimmer feature in settings->asus customized settings (thanks to jgaf he figured out this)
- because of google new voice search, we now have a new text-to-speech engine (the same as google voice search), and she sounds "sweet", the old one is gone, imo the old one sucks, can't really here anything, this new one is better than siri, sounds better, at least with the English US i believe.
- of course we have a new google voice search and google now, which is the feature i've been waiting for, help me practice my english
- looks like google has changed the "Tab UI" a little bit, for example: on .30 firmware, when you go to settings->apps you see "Downloaded", "Running", "All", to switch between these "tabs" you have to tap on them, but now with jelly bean, you can swipe left and right to switch, also the "tab menu" looks nicer (like windows phone i think)
so... no flash player with this update?? I think i might skip it just because of that.

If you had flash already installed you don't need to worry about it. I still have flash player and it works.

Same as nooktablet with about 300MB free after. I usually had 500-600MB before.
And I unrooted without Voodoo before the update. Not able to root at this point.

Do you notice any performance issues when you are running your usual apps or games as compared to before?
The browser doesn't do all of the lag dancing that it used to do. Haven't seen the wait/close dialog yet. There's some different animations in your installed apps section the Play store when updating an app. ES File Explorer seems to be having some issues though as it's forced closed twice while trying to copy files from my home network, something I've never seen ever. Been using it on three phones and this tablet and never experienced a problem until now.
