[Q] MAGLDR problems... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
I have flashed my phone 3 months ago, everything worked just about perfect. Now i tried to install a new rom of android and i get these:
When i press vol. down and plug the usb in the phone to get in the "colored screen", the phone won't enter usb mode. After i remove the usb from the phone it says "serial". (PB81100 HX-BC / SPL-2.08. HSPL 8G XE / CotullaHSPL)
When i choose option 4 USB MassStg from MAGLDR, it allows me to see the contents of the sd card and to write data on it
When i choose option 5 USB Flasher , the phone freezes, i can't get back from that option , and it alltso won't allow conectivity to the computer
When i choose option 9 AD Recovery, it sais ADNROID LOAD RAW ERROR: ERROR: Cannot read ramdisk image
When i choose option 3 Boot AD NAND, it boots perfectly well into the rom i am stuck with and it works just fine but i can't acces my sd card at all... it's just like it's missing , in fact that's what android sais.
The SD card i'm sure it works perfectly cause i have put it in an adaptor and tested it with a card reader.
My usb cable is working just fine.
Is there something to do in this situation? Can i somehow wipe magldr and install it again?

don't wipe magldr and install it again, you don't have to. just repartition your cwm through USB flasher and you should be good to go.
one more thing, never use USB mass storage from within magldr,it corrupts data, use a card reader.

When i try to repartition i get this
Rapi.dll is missing
An error has occurred
Read below for more information
Error Description: USB init failed
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (736)
On the colored boot screen i can't get my phone to run into USB mode

Rapi.DLL errors,,99% of time caused by older version of windows mobile device center (or activesync).
Google wmdc, find the manual download page and install wmdc.

Zune, wp sdk, r all u need. Every thing is in it. Wmdc is for wp6.5 and xp. Not good for 7 and wp7.

Hi marvlesz, would u mind explaining a bit abt how accessing usb mass storage from magldr could corrupt data? Or maybe from your own experience? If possible, then i now what to avoid. I've flashed my phone thrice so far all during some time of flashing accessed sd card using usb mass storage in magldr. I did not notice any problems since i restored only contacts and and some app datas.

Wrong, activesync is for XP, wmdc for vista / win7. However the wmdc that comes with win7 often gives the rapii error, hence downloading the manual instal package.

I can not explain it myself, neither have I experienced it before.
But from user reports, it seems that MAGLDR is, for some reason, unable to correctly transfer data. Especially large files(Maybe that's why you weren't affected).
You may have just been lucky, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Yap i know that, but its a little bit long aft i got hd2,its android. But b4 that it was wp6.5, which used to connect, and b4 that my hd7, which never connected to wmdc. I searched for the problem, and figured that wp7 is not comaptible with wmdc. Only wp6.5 is.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium

But were talking about flashing a winmo phone, even if you're running wp7 on it, its still a 6.5 phone as far as flashing is concerned, and always will be, so its the activesync (wmdc) drivers that are needed. Anything you do in bootloader gets treated as a 6.5 flash,, regardless of what os is on/being put on, the phone.

Thank you guys!, i have managed to fix it. I think the problem was somewhere in my computer cause i was getting so many errors. I have connected my phone to another computer and it worked just fine. Thank you!

I've heard that Magdlr has some problems corrupting larger file transfers. Personally, I've never experienced it with v1.13. You can try using a microSD adapter and transfer it directly from your computer to the SDcard, from then on, transfer files in Android before you decide to flash.

[Q] Can Android NAND be achieved thru SD-Card only???

My situation is this,
have a fully working HD2.
Except that it's USB port is damaged, and when it's plugged in USB it won't work.
So I've been limited to run Android to thru SD only.
and that's not all, with the USB port damaged it also means not able to charge the battery, so I bought a direct battery charger and 2 extra batteries.
Thus, every time I need to change the battery I must restart the phone, which means having to boot Windows Mobile, then Android from SD....
But I really want to turn on my phone and go straight to Android, as on NAND. And I know I know there's this Android-run-at-startup-app that I've already tried.
I've reviewed several tutorials to achieve Android NAND, and I was just wondering, could it be done in similar steps using the SDcard as a tool to flash certain files?
Yes.
Format your SD card
Look in my guide post 3 (in my signature)
download the clk v 1.5 extract the leoimg.nbh file to the root of the SD card
Press volume down + end key
Install the file.
Pull out battery
Put rom on SD card
Boot into recovery
And flash your rom

Ohhhh shiii- for real!? I really had very little hope on this, woow I'm about to try that!...
Thanks for the reply!
Edit: okay,, I just took a look at the instructions, and apparently I'm still unable to achieve Android on NAND....
I don't have HSPL, and this leaves me unable to even start because that process requires the phone to communicate thru USB....:/

Yes, always. cwm recovery or the app?
oh, you meant recovery.
theres:
mount/data
mount/sdcard
mountsystem
which one?
mount /sdcard, obviously
I'm not running Clockworkmod, so I can't check. But I believe it's the lowest option under "mount" menu. Something like "USB mass storage".

not at the moment. I'll to download straight from my phone's internet and attempt to flash a gb rom from faux123 and see if it connects.
OK... I'm doomed. My last hope is putting stock mt4g froyo rom
Most likely, as mentioned, one of the data lines (most likely D-) has been physically disconnected/damaged during ROM installation, when you plug and unplug the phone a lot. No new ROM will help you, if you can't mount the phone in recovery. Change USB cable, and if it doesn't help - it's your phone's USB port.
oh boy...but it doesnt make sense to me how the computer can detect the device and not recognize it/

[Q] How to fix my problem...

Hi, I'm having problem to flash my HTC HD2 back to android after flashing my HD2 to Windows Phone. The error that I'm having right now is to unable to mount SD Card. Everytime i've tried to mount /SDcard, an error Unable to mount /sdcard occured.
I've tried so many options but still no avail. Tried to use adb shell command but still unable to mount. So, I've tried to run android using SD Card, my phone stuck at port-a-droid screen and keep rebooting. At first, I though it was the SD card but when I tried on my friends HD2, the SD Android can boot and no problem.
I can't think what is the main problem as when I've load back to WP7, my sdcard can be detected and use as a storage and even in Magldr.
Hope someone could shed some light to my problem as i really love this phone.

Ok, follow these steps and you should be fine:
1. Flash task29 by placing task29.nbh onto root of SD card and holding volume down and power button while phone is OFF
2. Flash magldr or CLk
3. Flash recovery
I highly recommend HD2 Toolkit for this if you are not experienced. just google HD2 Toolkit and you will see the xda thread

Hi again.
I've tried the step that you suggested using the toolkit but still the same problem.
I'm still unable to boot android from the SD as it keeps reboot after showing the port to droid ultimate screen.
Try to install rom via sdcard still giving me the same can't mount error.
Any other suggestion?
I quit confuse on what reason this is happening as when installing WP7, sdcard can be detected. But when I've flash to Stock Desire HD using DFT (as is the only method that I cn use to install android) my sdcard can be detected by the android os.
It's kinda weird actually...

Have you tried simply formatting your SD card to FAT32? This often solves issues involving the SD card

But yes try what nigeldg suggested, also, make sure your setup (SD card folders, startup.txt etc) is correct as well, thats honestly where it seems like its failing. But without the device its hard to try myself

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Actually I did want to reinstall android from WP7 however when i enter recovery mode and choose install from the zip file, I get can't mount sdcard.
I've been trying a lot of things, format using sd formatter, format to FAT32, swap with another sdcard and even purchase new sdcard also gave me the same error. Even trying to fix using adb also fail or maybe I'm not expert enough to fix using adb. Found a topic in the forum by modifying initrd.rc (if i'm not mistaken) my knowledge is still shallow, so I dare not to try such attempt yet.
Do you think using Clk would solve my problem rather using Magldr? Maybe I should give it a try.
As for the boot android from sd is an effort for me to run android as a temporary solution while trying to figure out NAND installation problem but that method also fail.
I've already format my card using FAT32 (but will try to reformat again later), but copy all the android file into the folder and try to reboot from sdcard. Only got to loading screen of port-a-droid ultimate and then my phone reboot. But when I insert the same sdcard into my friends HD2, it boot into the android without a problem as I'm facing right now.
So I don't know what's the different between his HD2 and mine.
Hopefully someone could help me.

After reading this, and thinking about it for awhile, to eliminate ALL software issues, i would flash stock TMOUS or your carrier's stock Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM and try the sd card there. It almost sounds like youre having a hardware issue. Or wait a minute, what programs did you use to format your SD card? there might be a partition still on it that recovery isnt liking, download mIni tool partition wizard and delete all partitions then create a fat32 partition set as primary. Or use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool that takes forever but it does an excelent job at erasing completely the contents (master boot records, paritions, data, everything) and restores it to a fresh state. every time i get any sort of external media i use this tool to completely wipe it clean. if problems still persist we may need to move to a google talk chat session or something so i can talk to you as you move through some steps.

Good question lol i have the stock TMOUS ROM, and a custom ROM. The only problem with those is the radio will most likely brick the device.
What carrier do you have? im pretty good at tracking down files on the net. I would start with the carriers website, then go to HTC's website. its 100% out there, just gotta get the blood hounds out and sniff it down i found a 12 year old program (simple .exe file) that would compare two folder directories and output there results to a text file so its definately out there
And i say it might be a hardware issue since you claimed it booted on your friends HD2, thus ruling out a bad SD card, or bad software setup. These devices arent that hard to pull apart, ive had mine a apart more times than i change my underwear xP
So if it is hardware related, prolly a pin thats not connecting 100% (Hopefully) you can easily rip it apart and bend the pin to make contact.
Well the best to ya if you need help finding the stock ROM just post your specs of the carrier and what not and i'll try to help ya. Also if you need anything else you know wher to find me

Thanks again. I will try to find stock rom first. If not, I will post again.
Btw, is it possible for me to pull out (or create an image) of the stock ROM as my brother had a friend that ask me to convert his HD2 to Android. But just to be save, I want to extract the original stock rom first just in case and at the same time i could use it to restore my HD2.
Do you think it is caused by the hware. Because if it is, would it also effecting WP7 rom also. A bit weird as WP7 could access my sdcard without an issue. I don't know as i'm no expert in mobile device.
If my device is bricked either because of the radio or others, is it possible to un-brick it.
Anyway, thanks. Will be posting again soon.
If still couldn't solve, then i will just stick to WP7 and sold the unit instead.

I forgot to ask. If my device came from WM6.5, should I flash the radio first or HSPL?

Thanks again. I will try to find stock rom first. If not, I will post again.
Btw, is it possible for me to pull out (or create an image) of the stock ROM as my brother had a friend that ask me to convert his HD2 to Android. But just to be save, I want to extract the original stock rom first just in case and at the same time i could use it to restore my HD2.
Do you think it is caused by the hware. Because if it is, would it also effecting WP7 rom also. A bit weird as WP7 could access my sdcard without an issue. I don't know as i'm no expert in mobile device.

Here are the stock ROMs for the UK, so the ones for your carrier are probably on the HTC website somewhere Try searching through your country's branch of the htc website (i.e. rather than htc.com/uk try your country's code) and you will most probably find the ROM you're looking for. If you're flashing from WinMo you flash HSPL>Radio>MAGLDR/cLK>CWM>ROM (in response to your second post)

I'm reasonably sure you can, as that says it's just a generic software update. Try it out and see if it helps your SD issue and report back

[Q] HSPL & MAGLDR while SD card in phone.. Now card won't work.

Hello..
I'm preparing this friend's phone for Android installation (used to run W 6.5).. I upgraded the SPL to HSPL 2.08, and installed MAGLDR... all of that while the SD Card inside the phone. now the card is not recognizable.. I tried choosing USB MassSTG through MAGLDR, I got nothing.. I tried connecting the card to the computer directly, same thing.. no disk shows in computer or disk manager, and when I try to refresh, it just keeps searching forever.
I installed CWM after that, and nothing new. I have both Windows sync and HTC sync installed on my PC.
Anyone had this problem before? Anyone ever did these steps while the card was in the phone?
I read that WP7 locks the SD card and you can use it only by inserting it into the phone and connecting the phone.. is that also the case with W 6.5? could the card be simply locked? the owner wasn't much of a help since he can't remember ever taking the card out of the phone.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Since you said any help is appreciated, then I'll just answer the latter question.
No, Windows Mobile doesn't lock SD cards. And never use mass storage of magldr, it can corrupt (large) files.

Thank you for your response.. I do appreciate it.. it looks like magldr has corrupted the whole card instead of just one file
I hope there is a way to save the card out there..
