How do I get 12 hours battery in NC? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been staying at the library a lot lately. Today, I went from about 1 PM to 2 AM.
So, I need around 12 hours battery on NC (CM7 or CM9), how would I get that?
Wireless turned off, and screen brightness minimal, what do I need to do other than that?
Are there services to turn off, or things like that?
Does Repligo consume a lot of battery?
Is it true that if I charge my NC while it's turned off, I will get better battery life?

hello
u can have 12hour charge if u use superdim soft and mr72 guide use v6 supercharge update8 and other setting serch u will find

Thanks, will look into these now!

You can get over 12 hours using settings in my guide. Turning off wifi may be required for 12 hours or more of screen on time.

Calibrate your battery

We all want the maximum out of our battery and the corresponding indication. Found this thread in Desire forum on calibration of the battery and can be usefull for Wildfire aswell....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903
Just did the full cycle myself.....will report back results.

The wildfire has a really good battery already
No need to calibrate imo. Can last 2+ days for me when I don't abuse the wifi and games.
First feedback.....no noticable difference seen.....What do seem to help is to charge you phone longer even after green light indicates that battery is full.....For me than takes longer to go from 100 to 99.

How do you do this? I'm doing everything, I underclock my phone down to 160-245 Mhz, I turn on my wifi only when I have to, I keep my phone in airplane mode permanently, I constantly run on display turned down to max. And yet I've yet got to witness my phone going over 18h uptime. Do you run a custom ROM or something?

I find the same thing, and have even been thinking of returning it because it can't last longer than 24hrs. I have even restored to stock and hard reset, so no apps added or anything, BT/WIFI off and the battery life still sucks.

Yes I've tried openfire rom and wildpuzzle rom. Battery lasts as I have stated. I also use setcpu to set up profiles when phone screen is off to help it a little
Would also like to add that on the stock rom, the battery lasts long as well but custom rom is better
My phone is a stock. But as you can see, the battery life leaves a lot of room for improvement. How can I increase ir?
Not sure, but after rooting my battery life improved signigficantly, and it also charges fast than before... htc wildifire.
ok so i charged my phone to 100% and left it on my table untouched last night when i got to sleep, left it in my pocket today at uni without using wifi/games, just to check the time, is currently still at 99% with up time of 14hrs so far.
and if you want to maximise your battery life with stock rom, lower brightness, disable auto sync of accounts, disable 3g if you're not using it, try juice defender, i think that might help you guys.

Hmm strange, I have installed it and icon shows normally in application list.
I went through the calibration process and my battery life has increased significantly. Currently I have 5 hours and 12 minutes of uptime with occasional phone calls and some wifi usage - battery is at 99%.
I find that battery life is all about how strong ur signal is.
At home i get a full 3g signal, battery lasts about 30 hours with my syncs on all day, couple of hours of wifi and maybe 30 mins of gaming and about 30mins of phone calls.
When i'm at work and the signal fluctuates i get about 20 hours average.
When i was in a restaurant for a party recently from 7pm to midnight, there was hardly any signal and i used about 60% of the battery in 5 hours!
At the end of the day if the battery lasts for 18hours with all my stuff turned on then i won't complain as the phone does everything you need except make the tea!
I mean what's the point of turning all the smartphone stuff off? Might as well just go and buy a Nokia.

I'm familiar with the calibration thing n it worked well on my hero but since rooting with unrevoked u get no green light when phone is off n also need to pull battery to turn it on again.. so I don't c how I can with this irritating bug! Any solutions?
With data connection off I get bout 48hrs with just calls n txt. Otherwise with light use I get 30 ish tops

I faced the same problem, since rooting my wildfire. Can someone answer. Tks

Phone uses 50% in standby for 11 hours

I leave my phone in the car while I'm in the police academy and that's from 1000-2100, so it's about 11 hours. I might go check emails during lunch for about 10 mins but that's it.
by the end of the 11 hours, the battery is at about 50-60%
is that normal?
oh, tested it with noLED app, the battery was at 28%, so it uses about 20-30 more battery
Info that would be nice to have so others can help... Are you running a completely stock rom and kernel? What kind of signal strength do you get there? What is your TWS? Do you perform the 'Airplane Mode' fix on each boot? Do you kill the DRM service each boot? It would also help to have details like what rom and kernel you are running if not stock.
My best battery life that I can recall occured when running the Epic Experience Rom 1.1.06 and the Andromeda 1.4.0 kernel. When at home with WiFi on, 0% TWS (solid signal from the tower), I would lose about 1-2% per hour with no use, and I can recall having it last for almost 2 full days with light usage.
Another question, if your leaving it in your car anyway, why dont you just turn it off? Then it wont use any of your battery.
Anyway, in my limited experience, 5% per hour on a completely stock phone is about normal, and the only way I was able to increase it even a little was to install Juice Defender and have it kill any data access when the screen was off. This was before I rooted my phone, and learned anything about the 'Airplane Mode' fix (hold power button and turn on Airplane mode for about 10 seconds, then turn it back off. This reduces your TWS (TimeWithoutSignal) percentage) and killing the DRM service through the 'Settings->Applications->Running Services'
I lose under a percent an hour when the phone is sitting idle. Also, if I had to leave the phone for 11 hours, I would put it into airplane mode, or rather have juicedefender do it automatically. That would mean I would be losing under a half percent an hour.
That sounds about right from my perspective. Everyone that complains about the Epic having terrible battery life doesn't know how to manage their phone settings.
Personally, I use my phone often at work (ie., games, texts, and emails) and after 12.5 hours my phone probably has 60%-75% battery left. I do this by placing my phone in airplane mode and turning on my wifi. Using Google Voice and my gmail app I get all the information I want / need. On top of that I play games and surf the internet on my phone.
Anyway, I find your results typical from my experiences.

[Q] MyTouch 3G Battery Sucks

Hi there. I came from a LG Incite right, and I have bought 2 weeks ago a HTC MyTouch 3G. I love the phone, great work to both google and htc. Ok but I ran into a problem. My battery sucks really bad. Everytime I text with google voice, or just browse the web, my battery drains very quickly. I already have bought another battery from ebay and still, the battery drains very quickly.
So the question is, is this serious? Battery life sucks on a mytouch 3g?
Rom Used: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814142)
Install Apps: Google Voice, IMDB, NetCounter, ZumoDrive, and stock Google Talk.
Thank you!!!
There are a few things you should do to maximize battery life. First and foremost get yourself a task killer from the market to kill apps so they aren't always running. That will help a little.
I get 2 days out of my battery and I'm running Cyanogen 6.1 RC1. The tricks I've learned are as follows:
1) Keep your screen as dim as you can stand it. You might consider getting some kind of widget that can toggle brightness. I use WitchPro Widget to toggle everything. I keep it at like 5% indoors and use my widget to brighten the screen if I'm outdoors.
2) Change your screen to timeout in the shortest amount of time possible. That way your screen isn't staying on for a long time when you stop using the phone.
3) Turn wifi and bluetooth off unless you are using them. They will both drain your battery. Again, I use SwitchPro Widget to toggle both of them on and off.
4) Reset your battery stats. The most simple and straightforward way to do this is to drain your battery to 0% and let the phone turn off. Then plug it into the charger and let it get back up to 100%. I even leave it plugged in a couple hours after that for good measure. That will reset your battery stats.
5) Disable haptic feedback. The way I figure it is do I really need my phone to vibrate to let me know I'm typing or doing something? No. Also, you can disable any sounds your keyboard makes as well.
i did everything u said. i would like to add... turn animation off and carry an extra battery also help
32b myTouch 3g 2.2.1
Cyanogen Nightly 263
Hboot - 1.33.0006
Radio - 2.22.19.26i
Kernel - 2.6.35.9
ADW 1.3.3
ClockworkMod Recovery
Slideit keyboard
do this.
charge phone to 100%. leave charger on. boot to recovery. wipe batt stats. reboot. keep charger on untill it fully reboots.
unplug, use all the way. until you cant turn on the phone. then charge all the way.
with the charger still plugged in, power off the phone. let it charge for about another 30 minutes. then power on. once fully rebooted, it will run very good batt life.
i went from 100% at 6 am to 6pm with little use. and it was at 20%
now, at same times, i listen to music for like one hour. lotta txts. and wifi a lot.
and im at like 64 percent on high use.
Yea i did the above post a while ago. It helped for a lil bit but soon again after it was back to normal.

Question about sleep in Iconia Tab

Hello all,
Trying to find some info about some behaviour my Iconia has.
I love my device. Way more capable than my wife's Ipad and all that. There's only one thing that irks me: battery drain while the device is idle.
I also have a B&N Nook 1st gen (for books) and an EVO 4G. I leave and use the Iconia mostly at home, close to the WiFi. I'll take it out for long trips and such, but it stays close. I have it set up so that the WiFi antenna turns off when the screen does. Low brightness on the screen, will only charge the battery when it's low enough to charge, etc. It stills drains close to 6-8% if I leave it alone a couple of hours.
Earlier today I rooted the device and use Bloatware Freeze to freeze some stuff. Eventually I'll get rid of some of the gunk the tablet has installed. I want to figure out how to shorten that gap. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the tablet left alone consumes 8% of battery charge! I mean, if nothing can be done then so be it, I'll learn to live with it.
For my money I would bet that there is something hidden in the Iconia's OS build that thinks it is a 3G/4G device. Now, I'm wondering what would happen if I were to take the next (logical) step and put another ROM in it. Would this make a difference? If I can make the battery drain stop at 5% or less, that would make this perfect.
Thx!

I leave my device with airplane mode checked, and then re-check wifi (as airplane mode will initially turn off your wifi). I get no strange programs showing up in battery usage now.
Will certainly try...
I'll try this next time I head out. Will leave her in Airplane Mode and will check the battery level when I come back.
I did disable the GPS and all location settings. I do not need it to know where I am, since I have the EVO for that.

Well I'm glad I came across this. I didn't even think about leaving the GPS on and consuming battery. Also, where did you adjust for your wifi to turn off when the screen goes off?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.
I am developing an app that uses bluetooth and I noticed that if I leave bt on my tab will go dead in 2 days, if I turn it off it can stay idle for several days before needing a charge. I leave the wifi on all the time.

Wow I don't even have 8% drain with Wifi on all the time. There maybe something else in the mix. Most of my drain is the screen as I set it to auto and in my home it ramps up brightness most of the time. Is it possible you have a rogue app? Have you tested the tablet 'fresh', ie: after a factory reset with 1 google profile set up?

This is interesting, on 3.01 & 3.1 I've had zero drain with screen off w/up to 16 hrs. Settings : Wi-Fi disconnect policy never when plugged in, location & security use wireless networks on & gps on. Airplane mode , always off. I can't understand why you folks are having these problems. Hope we find out. Oh & by the way that's not charging.
Forgot to mention I use Juice Defender.
Update
Well, after much tweaking I think I'm somewhere where I feel comfortable. As a disclaimer I don't take the Iconia with me on my daily commute. Again I take my EVO and my Nook with me. The tablet spends the entire time I'm out in the office at home, unused.
I disabled all screen animations and I'm using the tablet on the lowest brightness setting.
I disabled the GPS and all location-related settings.
I rooted the tablet and am using Bloat Freeze to freeze/disable some of the Acer 'junk'.
I put the table in Airplane mode before heading out.
Last night when I went to bed I didn't use it (I was reading a very good book and I did not use the tablet to watch any of my shows). So I put it in airplane mode after I played with the new Google Music app (Impressive!). I went to bed around 11:00 and woke up at 5:00. In this span of time, battery went down by 1%.
Used it this morning to tweet, check a couple of websites, email. Was @ 71% at 7:00AM. Came back close to 7:00PM. Battery was at 67%. Right now (8:50 EDT) it's at 1d 19h 55m on battery @ 59% charge. Heavy usage of TweetCaster, TuneIn Radio, Browser, Market, &c.
Mind you, it was not used for close to 8-9 hours or more. If I were to take it with me the consumption would be more, but then I would probably use Airplane mode when it was not in use. Besides, I can't use it at work b/c the wireless is not compatible.
I'll keep doing some research, but I'm comfortable. I accept the fact that it will drain regardless, since the OS is up. The previous consumption was too much, and I think I can live within the 2% - 4% consumption rate. If it can go down to 1%, though, that would be even better.
Any other ideas welcome.
beautiful Widgets comes with a widget to disable/enable wifi like we're all used to on our phones.
I loaded prime 9.3 today because I wanted to try a 3.2 rom (for GPS and sd-card reasons). On that rom I noticed the 3g settings were visible until I added the line "ro.carrier=wifi-only" to build prop. I was able to see cell standby show up in batt usage.
Not sure if you guys knew it or not but under battery usage you can click on the graph to see a graphical depiction of what hardware used the battery when. If GPS was active when it shouldn't have been you'll see it there.
Interesting...
Are you suggesting that the 3g apk is active on the 3.1 image? I posted this question to a developer in Market that has an app that kills this on the Iconia. Maybe that's the other 2% - 4% I can kill.
Prime is a 3.2 rom. You could try adding that line and rebooting though.
To the stock 3.1 image? Interesting. Any instructions?
You'll need an app like root explorer that will let you mount the /system partition as read/writeable. In the /system directory there will be a build.prop file that you can open with a text editor (root explorer has this feature built in). You'll see many "ro.xxx" lines. At the end of the first group you'll just need to add the line "ro.carrier=wifi-only" without the quotes. Save and exit the file. Reboot tablet. On reboot, it will read the values in build.prop.
On the prime 3.2 rom, the settings for mobile networks are visible without that line added to build prop. I was actually seeing cell standby in the battery usage list. I never saw that on the stock rom. I use a toggle button for the wifi to quickly turn it on/off from the home screen and that keeps wifi from using any battery while sleeping..
I really doubt that GPS is the culprit in your case. Did you click on the battery usage graph to see what hardware was using the battery during the period of sleep?
Also remember
The % charge that the system reports is not always a very accurate indication of how much charge your system actually has - what matters is up time and how long you can go between charges.
Airplane mode is your friend - no real need to disable animation (has nothing to do with idle charge) - the only thing I do is enable airplane mode when away from charger and not using my tab - some of the drain you are reporting could be due to your system scanning for open hotspots.
Also remember all it takes is one poorly coded app to totally screw your battery over - as you are rooted, quite easy to check for apps that relaunch themselves even after closed, apps that want to phone home every 60 seconds - etc.
Would highly recommend you take a close look at any non-stock apps that you have installed.

[q] your best way to keep your battery live.

Hello, everu body ,
what do you do to keep your battery to be used more...
i have a defy offcurse....
Questions go in the Q&A section
Switch to 2g signal(no data), set screen brightness to low, turn off wifi, don't run unnecessary apps and set screen off(sleep) at 15 seconds. I hope this helps answer your question
try juice defender and installl cm7 latest nightly..
juice defender I get 3 days out of mine. Well as long as I dont play around with it heaps lol
You can also install custom roms known to have good battery management... i use walter79's ms2ginger based rom and its gives 2 days with moderate to heavy usage (I play games for a total of around an hour or so daily )
i have a custom rom,
but i don't understand how to use correctly this juice ....
and threads on forum about it ?
I installed the latest CM7.2 from quartx and I get heaps good battery life. I installed V6 supercharger and Setvsel
I didnt change anything in setvsel but I think my settings from changing them in recovery are still there.
It says I am running
30 @ 300
44 @ 600
53 @ 800
58 @ 1000
Now I use setvsel to limit vsel 1 when screen is off and apply sd speed fix.
I dont use Juice defender, I put the power control widget on the main screen and turn everything off (except the 3g) I could add the switch to run 2G only but dont bother. Set the brightness to auto but could set it to Dim or 25% till you need it.
going by battery monitor I have 4d and 13h left on my battery, So I am happy with that!
AVOID using mobile data...if possible use wi-fi to access net...and even if u use mobile data just make sure u turn if off whenever not required..
switch to 2G if 3G is not necessory..
to be frank undervolting wont work save much battery...but still recommended..
switch off GPS and other stuffs whenever not required..
and make sure ur phone is sleeping nicely
Lux auto bright app makes huge difference
Sent from my MB525 using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
I using Juice Defender Ultimate
I find the power control panel on the main screen is alot easier and does everything juicedefender does AFAIK. Just turn on what you need when you need it. Then just turn it off when your finished.
i Agree with kelbygreen .....
most of that stuff can be done mannually and would give u much more control....
but i do almost all that has been said here and still do not get more than 24hrs ...
how do u guys manage to get four days????
please tell me ....
---------- Post added at 02:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:48 PM ----------
u really get 4 days????
I am on WIUI and supercharged with SetvSel....
I get a max of 24hrs... that also when i am careful not to use too much of 2G and keep brightness etc at the most optimum for better Battery perfomance...
Please help
Thx in advance
Well I have a defy+ so got 1700mh battery and I doubt I get 4 days (just what battery widget says) I would get 2-3 but I am still setting up this phone so are using it prob 2-3 hrs a night so that drains it as I have wifi and network on and the screens almost always on.
It depends how you use it. I have set mine up now so I may use it to call between 5mins to a hour or so a day and dont really play games so it will last me a while. But as I just put this ROM on and setting and moding things then it uses it up. I been on the phone for about 1.5hrs and playing with the phone prob 3hrs total in the last 28hrs and its down to 48%
Well I just tested my Defy+ once.
Turned off the data,
Screen brightness to min,
& I managed to run it for 4+ days, finally plugged it when battery went to 2%..
Doesn't matter from where I send it, what matters is written above
