[Q] NC Cannot Get into Deep Sleep Mode and Battery Drained - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sometimes I find NC cannot get into deep sleep mode after screen is off.
Once it happens, I have to try to toggle the WIFI and auto screen rotation, kill all the Apps in memory and then check if it could get into deep sleep mode again. That is really annoying and makes NC unfriendly to battery life .
Is there any method to make sure NC will get into deep sleep mode when screen is off? It will be highly appreciated~

[Q] why not going to deep sleep?

My tf not going to deep sleep, i'm on 3.1 primordial.
Someone have the same issue?

Yes. Mine is too. and i haven't figured out why.
Mine seems to stay awake (according to the battery graph) if it's plugged in to the dock.
What do you mean by deep sleep, there's only 1 sleep mode and that's when the screen simply dims off yes?
If you install cpuspy, deep sleep is one of the cpu frequencies (i guess) that is lower than 216 mhz. Mine seems to be stuck at 216 instead of deep sleep whem i turn off the screen.

+1 for not entering Deep Sleep. I'm running 3.2.1 ... and I did notice that my TF did enter Deep Sleep some time; but just turning off the display doesn't enter deep sleep.
Did anyone figure out why Deep Sleep is not being entered, or what does it take to enter Deep Sleep?

For those of you that have a transformer that wont deep sleep whether its on or off the dock, doesnt matter you can get a app for that. its called Auto Airplane Mode, and it puts your transformer in airplane mode each and every time you turn the screen off, i have noticed a huge difference in battery life after installing this app. using Cpuspy my transformer went into deep sleep for 10 mins max a night for the last week. installed Auto Airplane Mode and the transformer goes into deep sleep within a min of turning screen off now. I already had the wifi set to turn off when screen is off and everything, the only thing i did was add this app.

Airplane mode wasn't the answer before and isn't the answer now. I haven't charged my transformer since the update so don't know if it is happening to mine but if it is the same as before then it isn't radios that is causing the problem its a bug in the OS that never lets it go into deep sleep after charging. A reboot after charging usually sorted it until the next charge. That is so long as you don't have a dock because the tab thinks it is being charged when on the dock. I hope they haven't introduced this bug again because it was a real PITA when it had it before.

I also installed Auto Airplane app, but I think it is not the solutions, still no deep sleep. Because I have no dock, after charging, I reboot but still no deep sleep. Now I have to charge everyday
Mine is fine. Deep sleep verified with cpu spy.

Mine keeps disabling the setting : turn wifi off when screen turns off.
This update is ****ed up!
mine goes into deep sleep perfectly now since the update, it wouldnt before unless I used the auto airplane app. Battery life is much better now.
mine wasn't sleeping, till i did a factory reset. now its sleeping as it should.
I am having the same problem since the update. CPU Spy indicates that it is in Deep Sleep, but I am having constant battery drain in AND out of the dock. Battery says that wifi is doing the damage. I have it clicked to sleep when screen timesout. Auto Airplane Mode worked. I am not happy though. I should not have to use it.
Mine doesn't sleeping whether install Auto Airplane mode or not. I'll try to factory reset....
Happy to say mine is still OK after the update. It till goes into deep sleep as it should.

Lucky guy....
I tried fatory reset, but nothing change. Still not sleep...
How come my transformer instead of going into a completely dormant sleep mode it goes into a sleep mode where every one minute according to the clock it flashes on the screen for a few seconds just to show the time on the lock screen???

Damn, this looks like the problem I'm having: when I check what's draining the battery, the first place with 58% is Screen! I didn't see the screen flash, though.
Upd. Yes! This is exactly the issue I'm having! I checked - the screen turns on from time to time, not every minute, but still... so no deep sleep for me here

Need to check permissions on your apps as they change with updates. some apps keep the TF from sleeping others wake it up periodically to check for mail or other syncs. Need to check them all as some things you might never expect like free games keep it alive.
I'm really stuck with this problem. After full reset and only one app installed (Dual Battery Widget) Transformer spends some time in deep sleep, then suddenly wakes up. You can see it on the attached screenshot. I have no idea what happened around 3 am when the device woke up and never went to deep sleep after that.

I think mine have the same problem. Sometime it go to sleep mode, but I don't know when. Event after reboot, no application running, still not sleep....
I had this problem with mine, it turned out to be some of the apps kept waking it, and then it wouldn't go back into deep sleep. I uninstalled some of them and haven't looked back since. Specifically Facebook was a big problem, even with no syncing.

The only app installed is Dual Battery Widget (I did a factory reset). Could it be the reason?
Maybe with this you can see more.

If you're still getting SOD on your TF101, I have a little workaround that might work

I never fixed my SOD problem on my TF101. I'm running AOKP Milestone 6 and Guevor's Kernel-ICS-V23-OC1700-fb-AOKP_690
I initially just used that Wakelock app to prevent it from going into deep sleep, but I was highly dissatisfied with the battery life.
What I started doing now is using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.easy.battery.saver&hl=en
I found that my TF101 does fine when it goes into deep sleep, but not if it's deep sleep for too long of a time period. With the battery saver app, I have it customized so that when the screen is off, the wifi will turn off as well. The trick is also setting it up so that the wifi will enable wifi again every fifteen minutes for thirty seconds. That brings the TF101 out of deep sleep for a little bit, lets it sync gmail/FB/etc., and then go back to deep sleep.
The benefit of this is that it prevents SOD while still maintaining decent battery life by allowing your TF101 to at least go into deep sleep once in a while instead of keeping it awake 24/7. I tried playing around with 30 minute intervals for the wifi turning on/off but I had a SOD. 15 minutes seems to be working!

Phone not going into deep sleep?

I am on the latest Slim Bean with Franco R31 and no matter what governor/min/max I set it does not go into deep sleep. How can I find out which program is causing this?
BetterBatteryStats

Install and set up the app, charge your phone, unplug it and don't use it for 4-5 hrs (overnight is even better), check the results. If you can't identify what's keeping your phone awake pull a log with the app, post it in the thread and ask for help.
My (stock) Nexus 4 never goes in to deep sleep despite the Android battery thingy showing nothing (or very little) awake time. My Xperia S was always awake according to the same thing but entered deep sleep readily

I had this problem. I found that it was a live wallpaper that was keeping the phone from going into deep sleep. As soon as I switched to a standard wallpaper I was able to get 70% deep sleep whilst previously it never went into deep sleep.
Hope this helps

Another recommended app Wakelock Detector at Google Play

SGH-I337M Never In Deep Sleep Mode

Hello XDA members! I have recently bought a used Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M Telus/Koodo a few days ago on a website similar to Craigslist but better (Kijiji). I got it unlocked and updated it Android 4.3 not rooted.
Anyways, my phone battery is really bad. Yesterday night, the battery was at 47% when I went to sleep. No apps were running except my SMS app and WakeLock Detector. The wifi was turned off, the Power Saving Mode was on and the brightness was set to its lowest. This morrning when I woke up, the phone was at 19%, so it lost 28% in about 8.5 hours while in standby mode. I tried the app Deep Sleep Battery Saver but it doesn't seem to work very well. When I check WakeLock Detector stats, the Deep Sleep time is always at 0.0 seconds; therefore, my phone has NEVER entered in Deep Sleep mode Help please?
Somoeone help pleaseeeee?
Did you read the app description? If you turn off WiFI and enable Power Saving mode, it block WIFI and Mobile DATA then the app cannot put your device in deepsleep.
Description:
During deep sleep mode, Wifi, 3G are turned off, background apps are stopped. Therefore, most apps are not working, including Facebook, Google Service, etc,. It then constantly wakes up in order to download email, sync Facebook status, etc,.
I can't really help you for the batt drain unless you could root your device to get more information from CPU: twist Process setting or buy another app on the playstore to monitor your battery drain like BetterBatteryStats.
