Which one and why?
I'll start.
I'm looking for an Android phone that just works. No radio issues, not major battery issues, etc. Also, I want it to be 4G.
I'd like the Samsung Galaxy S II, but I am weary about the radio issues.
The Galaxy Nexus is nice, but truthfully, I'm somewhat disillusioned about the lack of communication regarding the upcoming (hopefully) updates for my current 4G.
iPhone? Meh. I like widgets.
Almost seems like I would be best off with the Photon. Why did this phone not get anywhere near the fanfare as the SGSII?
The photon was probably not noticed due to timing a lot people were probably on contract with an evo, and maybe an epic.

oh man that's loose butthole
The Photon forums has custom roms, so it must be able to be rooted. Also it is reported to have a really good radio with clear reception. Something the NS and NS4G is lacking for sure. Another plus, is that it woks with that Motorola laptop dock thing.
Galaxy S2 right now, but would be hesitant about 480x800 on a 4.5inch screen. I will be going for the galaxy nexus or GS3 depending on timing of the releases and how much better the specs of the GS3 actually are. If it is only processor I will go with the g-nex since really you would never notice the difference. If the screen is somehow better then GS3.
Nexus a 4g or a galaxy nexus. If you're looking at anything today other than stock Android I can tell you for sure that you'll be disappointed.
I've owned an epic 4g and galaxy tab and both were good devices... But hampered by their modifications from Samsung

after owning a Evo4g with sense and trading it in to sprint for my Evo3d, I'd have to agree with the anything but stock quote... I traded my mother my Evo3d for her NS4G; best phone decision I've ever made. This phone just gets so much love from XDA that the only phone I could see myself switching to is a GNEX once Sprint gets LTE.

*Sigh* there are literally hundreds of these threads. The Nexus S is by far the faster phone and better is a subjective judgement. The Nexus S gets updates from Google and does not come saddled with carrier bloatware or Samsung's TouchWiz. Besides, the Captivate is on AT&T and if you're going over there you might as well just wait for the Atrix to come out if you want the latest and greatest.
If you're locked into Tmo and want by far the best single core phone and arguably the best phone on the market period, get the Nexus. If you want to be crippled by having to wait for Samsung to decide whether or not they want to update and fix the plethora of issues that plague the Galaxy S line then get the Vibrant/Vibrant 4G (coming soon)/Captivate/Fascinate/Epic 4G
I'm with Rogers and they are getting it on march.

I'd say go with the Captivate. Why? Nexus S probably won't give you 3g. They both have the Super AMOLED and the Hummingbird. The Captivate is great, but it does have touchwiz. Just make sure you get at least Froyo on the Captivate.
IMO Froyo is the only OS that you need to be upgraded to. Gingerbread is a kindof pointless update to be completely honest. Eclair brought multitouch, Froyo brought Flash and push... Gingerbread brought NFC...
The Captivate had a lot of potential to be a great phone, but I went through two over the course of 30 days and both had terrible gps and shutdown issues. The slow release of Froyo is unfortunate, but the quality of ROMs available is outstanding and if I had kept the phone I wouldn't have kept it stock.
I returned my Captivate and cancelled my extension because of the shutdown issues and poor attitude of the radio shack manager towards helping me find one in the "good" IMEI range.
Based on my research those 30 days that I had the captivate, aside from the Nexus S I will have a hard time recommending another Samsung phone.
I have the captivate right now, and I'm most likely switching to the Nexus S when it comes out with proper bands.

Why wouldn't the Nexus S give 3G? Unless this is a specific issue with canadian carriers and assuming the Nexus S is one with the proper bands it would offer the same coverage as the Captivate minus everything that makes Samsung phones suck (Samsung support).

I believe anderdroid was replying under the assumption that we were talking about the CURRENTLY available Nexus S being used on AT&T rather than some as-yet-to-officially-announced AT&T version or (foreign model with AT&T bands).
You will never get the current model to do anything faster than EDGE on AT&T.
Hardware design-wise, the Captivate was actually my favorite of the Galaxy S phones released in the US, but I've never owned one.
Boy...I have both...and I can seriously say that as far as stability is concerned SGS is better. I am so pissed with the terrible issue of phone rebooting during the call on nexus S..and all google has to say is we are very near to fixing it.
On the other hand I do like the fact that this phone will be able to get all latest updates...so for me when choosing between SGS and SNS its about stability and bleeding edge...if you use your phone for fun and not lot of business Nexus S and for serious stuff SGS...
Hope this helps.

I like both phone, both has crazy specs, I have the evo now and love it. What I love about the evo is that there is so many roms to choose from. My main concern is which phone is easier to develop for and do you think Samsung development community would be as big as HTC development community. Not to mention that I love the cm roms and there roms is still in experimental stage for Samsung. I really answering my own question for the evo3d but that screen on the galaxy s2 is calling me.

I sold my EVO and bought an Epic back in December... big mistake for someone that likes to dev and tweak his phone. The Epic hardware is awesome, but the dev support is very lacking. Yeah, I could overclock my Epic and score 2400+ on Quadrant and it took great HD Video compared to the EVO. The screen was also beautiful. I traded the Epic for an EVO because I missed being able to dev. If you're the type of person that always wants to be on the cutting edge with the newest version of Android, then stay with what the DEVs are using (probably EVO3D). If you're someone that runs the same ROM for months at a time (i.e. not a flashaholic) then the Samsung S II may be best for you. It depends on what you're looking for and what you're looking to do with your phone.

Yup Evo 3D, even tho it might have lock bootloader like the thunderbolt, it will have more support from developers, and good ones too, virus is coming alone and myns wants too, I believe mik is coming and of course others

I wonder how long it will take them to crack the bootloader if it is indeed locked. I hope not too long. But its what ever. After running Virus' Kindom Port, ill be fine with stock un-rooted for a lil while
My only concern is developing for the EVO 3D as they have some new files that are going to be or may be difficult to work on. Only time will tell. I'm going to the EVO 3D because I love Sense and I can tell you right now the galaxy wont have that.
My favorite roms are myns for sense and cm7 for latest android roms. So I guess ill stay with HTC

I checked out both phones at Google IO. The galaxy S2 was so thin and the screen was amazing. Both phones were super snappy.
The only turnoffs for me on the galaxy s2 was the plasticky cover and the weight. Anyone who's owned a Samsung phone knows what i'm talking about with the plasticky feeling phones. But the weight of the S2 blew me away. I can't remember a lighter smartphone. It felt like a toy. It was basically "too light." I'm sure for many, that phrase doesn't even make sense, but for me, I like phones that feel solid and have some substance to them. For some, when they throw this phone in their pocket, they won't even know its there.
I have to hand it to Samsung though. The S2 is an impressive engineering accomplishment. Its the highest performance phone I've seen announced, and its so damn thin and light.
I'm personally a fan of sense, or at least having the option of sense, and I doubt that would ever fully translate to a Samsung product no matter what developers are working on it.
I really love the slab form of the GSII, if they release a HTC slab phone (like the Sensation) on Sprint, that would really be the phone I'd want. Evo 2?
HTC has better radios and gps, Samsung sucks!
the s2 does seem intriguing...also i hate that instead of hdmi out, the use usb and then give you a converter cable w/ an additional power source on it. plus, for some unknown reason, it seems we could be waiting a while before it actually hits the market in the states for some reason eventhough it is already in europe (gsm version). also, i hopped on to the evo 3d thread a while ago and the dev's were introducing themselves...there were LOADS of great dev's coming on board. With the specs and dev's on board, the 3d will have some spectacular features!
I am intrigued by the GS2 and the new version of Touchwiz... I HATE HATE HATE touchwiz, but the new version looks ok so far.
One thing that will keep me from considering the GS2 is if it has a physical keyboard. I don't know why Sprint has to be the one that gets that...
I'm going with the EVO 3D. The specs look awesome.

Ok, so I bought a Nexus S around January of this year. Full price from Best Buy. Thought it was fantastic. It was my first "Nexus" phone. But a few months later, I got bored and heard about the Dual Core HTC Sensation. So I sold my Nexus S and bought the Sensation.
I loved this phone at first, but the novelty wore off. But the entire time I had it, the Nexus S was in the back of my mind. Sure the Sense 3.0 looks good, but for a dual core phone it didn't feel better. The Nexus S is faster. I know that Sense uses a lot of memory, and the Sensation was my first Sense phone, but it ruined Sense for me. I dislike Sense because of the Sensation and will probably never pick up another phone running Sense.
So, this weekend I sold the Sensation to a user on this site and bought another Nexus S. I feel that at this point, if it isn't a Nexus phone, then I don't want it. Dual core or not!
LOL thanks, i guess that summarizes what i've been hesitant about
I was also thinking about picking up the Sensation, or the G2x, but no matter how i looked at it, it didn't have as much development going on as the Nexus S
also the lack of SAMOLED is a big no no for me.
the only phone i've set my eyes on at the moment is the Samsung Hercules due out on the 09/26th
Yes, I missed the hell out of the Super AMOLED screen. It was one of those "don't know what you've got till its gone" type of things.
I would stay away from the Sensation and stay waaay the hell away from the G2X phones
The Super AMOLED spoiled me so I hope that Samsung gets the next Nexus phone too.

I think partly because it "just works".
The EVO boards everybody was trying to get AOSP/Cyanogenmod working and bugfree (bluetooth stack issues) and add Wimax support.
G2x also trying to get AOSP working, in a stable fashion. And they're trying to port the LG camera to AOSP. Also bluetooth issues there.
Here everything already just works.

This has been covered ad nauseum, but basically the other phone development forums are swamped with activity, most of which revolves around trying to get their phones to be like the Nexus is out of the box.
Maybe someone can start posting ROMs with features like "SENSE-less, no Touch Wiz, MotoBlur removed, ZERO BLOAT!!!!!?!" and then we can be like the other forums.
I second that, OP. Had the NS4G but then bought an SGSII and jumped on AT&T. SGSII was an AWESOME phone hardware-wise, and really liked that I was only paying $10/mo data for unlimited hspa+. But software wasn't as good as stock GB, and I missed the form factor of the NS. So I sold the SGSII and now looking for an AT&T NS, probably a white one since they went down in prices recently...then consider the Nexus 3 when it comes out
I have to agree with most on this board. if you want the newest updates always and if you want all the apps to work with your phone right off the back, stick with nexus. skype and netflix worked with the nexus right off the back, it took a couple of months before most of the other phones caught up. nexus prime is definitely my next phone, and hopefully it drops soon
Went to the local Sprint store, they had two Photon's on display to use. No offense, but that phone is garbage. Both units felt very laggy...the screen was washed out...Motoblur is disgusting...
My rooted Nexus-S 4G felt night and day smoother/faster, and the colors on my screen were a HUGE difference, as in way better quality and deep blacks and bright colors, the Photon looked bad. Vanilla stock Android is one hundred times better than Motoblur.
I am shocked for the Nexus-S being a bit dated tech wise, it is still my favorite phone of all the Sprint phones out today, I had the EVO 4G which was great last year, but is now slower and dated...bought the EVO-3D returned 3 weeks later, it was cool, just not a big fan of Sense, and the screen colors were just ok, picked up the Nexus-S 4G rooted it and installed Oxygen 2.2.1 ROM + Matr1x 6.0 kernel and this phone is a beast And I am sorry, but the Photon is the worst of the four phones I have tried, no offense.
So to recap, I had the EVO 4G at launch last summer, it was a kick ass device last year, now it is showing it's age. The EVO-3D is very nice, but Sense is not my cup of tea anymore, and no need for 3D on a phone, the Photon is terrible, and the Nexus-S still looks and feels fresh. Out of these four phones the Nexus looks like the newest and greatest of the four, which is crazy, because the spec's on the N-S are dated.
Curious if the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S2 will finally be the best Sprint Droid, and dethrone my Nexus ?
the epic touch will be a monster phone, and imo teh best on on sprint.. for about 2-3 months.. then the nexus prime will come out.. and no one will remember any of these phones

Not sure if Sprint is getting it right away ? Could be May 2012 like the Nexus-S release. Rumors make it sound like Verizon might be the first this time around possibly.
no, its been passed around verizon's hq as google is trying to get them onboard (the only major national carrier that doesnt have a nexus device) the cdma and wimax code is already there, there is no reason on why a cdma version cant come out the same day.

I went backwards from a EVO 3D to a Nexus S 4G. The EVO never got the developer support it needed and I'm told with confidence that the Epic Touch is the buggy terrible little brother to the rest of the damn worlds Galaxy S II's. So, good luck with that. I guess I'd say the EVO because at least on stock software it was pretty alright.
My wife has an E4GT. It is still on a stock rooted GB ROM for a reason. That reason being, it is a huge pain in the ass, compared to a nexus s, to flash anything on. Let's put it this way, you really need to do your research before flashing anything on an E4GT...
I'd stick with the NS and wait a few months for the new nexus to come out...

Don't be fooled by the higher specs of those phones. Don't bother with either of those.
One sprint either keep your ns or get a s3. Stay away from those two phones. They are crap IMHO
I have to say keep the nexus S and wait foe the next nexus. The other feature phones are not as great as they appear. Stock Android over Sense or touch wiz any day for me.

Seriously these are all the right answers. Higher "specs" do not always equal a better experience. Maybe the ONLY thing I miss from my EVO 3D is the qHD screen. That's it. I haven't regretted the "downgrade" to a Nexus S 4G yet. I love this phone. My answer of the 3D was in the case of if you had to move to something else at, I don't know gunpoint or something.
