download a file explorer (i.e es file explorer) and see if your pictures are still on the SDCard... they shouldn't just randomly delete.

I went back to stock JI6 because I had some problems with Bionix Final. Of course the Gallery is basically non-functional on JI6.
I pulled this from Bionix Final and copy/pasted it from my SD Card into system/app/ with Super Manager's file explorer but any root explorer will work. Backup the original Gallery3D.apk first or rename it to Gallery3D.old.apk. Replacing the Gallery APK with this version seems to fix the problems for me, let me know if this works for you as well.

Delete .odex Gallery3D.apk as well, back it up if you want.
Thanks for posting this, so far it seems to be working for me as well.
What is the difference between this and the stock Gallery3d?

Don't know, this one works better?
I updated the OP to reflect deleting the .odex Gallery3D, since it would be the other version that hangs often.

This one doesn't crash, hang, or cause your phone to reboot every 5th or 6th time you open the gallery.

Ok, thanks. I did notice it seems more stable and a lot faster.
Thank you very much for this. My gallery was almost useless, it would freeze the phone 75% of the time I tried to open it. Now it works like it should.

Nice work!
My problems with the Gallery went away when I started useing 2.2 roms. For those who like the modem strength and other things about JI6, this is a great fix. Well done, I know you've been on this issue for a while after many of us gave up. Nice job.
Now I have the option to go back to JI6 when 2.2 gets too buggy.
Thx.

Im having a problem with my hd2 and the gallery. For whatever reason the gallery does not work. I was running typhoon NAND 3.4.1 and tried updating to 3.5.1 still to no avail.
Can anyone recommend a fix? I can see the pics in the file manager, and i can take pictures... but i cant view them, they just don't show up in the gallery. It'll say loading but nothing.
This happened before the update mind you, and the update to 3.5.1 didn't help any... What is going on?

browse your sd card for .nomedia files. they prevent the gallery to scan that folders with such a file in it.
If you got one on the root on the sdcard, the whole sd card wont be scanned.
Nope, not the issue... checked, and tried another SD with same results.
Someones gotta know. This is driving me nuts.
Everything was fine till i tried to take a pix of my penis and send it to a girl the other day and my phone locked up. When it restarted no more gallery.

Does it bother you that there are 2 Gallery apps when you load up jelly bean and gapps?
yeah me too.
So what i did, was mad sure i had titanium backup root on my sdcard.
I then installed Jelly Bean, and let it boot up (i did not flash gapps)
I installed titanium, and then i uninstalled the gallery that came with JB.
rebooted into recovery, flashed gapps.
and bang. no more double gallery
I had four at one point the other day, hahaha. But yeah, it's strangely weird that there's no consistency in the naming scheme.
So no ideas which one is safe to uninstall?

It shouldn't matter which one you uninstall.

After reading in another post, someone suggested uninstalling both and using quickpic from the market I tried that out and find it to be better then gallery app

haven't tried anything from the market yet, but I randomly uninstalled one and everything still works fine. Maybe I got lucky?

I used Titanium to see which was the older version and uninstalled that one.
In system/app you'll find two apk for gallery:
GalleryGoogle.apk
Gallery2.apk
They are the same, but GalleryGoogle.apk is the one with picasa sync. Gallery2.apk will only show you the photos stored in your device
So my GS5 has decided that I am not allowed to delete photos off of it in recent months.
I have turned all the syncs off, and tried manually deleting them off the SD card using my computer, nothing seems to work. they are ALWAYS back after a few hours. Phone even gave me warnings that I was out of space for awhile, but now that has stopped.
what can I possibly do to delete these damn useless albums and pictures?
Are you trying to delete Picasa's photos?

Hi guys
I've just moved on to lollipop and have noticed an issue with photos and videos after they have been taken .
Basically what happens is the phone wont -
Show you the picture from the preview button
Show in the gallery but can be viewed via a file manager
They also do not get backed up to one drive or Google drive
Anything I can do short of re flashing the rom ?

Backup all your internal data and factory reset your device
Sounds like an issue with Mediaserver or Indexing.
Is there .nomedia file in the main directory or the image directory?

Not than I can see. It doesn't work on either the sd card or internal storage.

No way to resolve it without a re flash ?
Try downloading an app from playstore like rescanmedia or similar.

Crashes as soon as I open it .
It's looking more and more like a re flash right ?
tried a reflash and it still has the same issue.
Got this working I cleared the cache and data of the media storage process and all seems to be good.
Thanks for responding guys.
