Hello my friends.
I think its a good idea to offer this simple guide and explanation for new Xperia and Android users about how to play with their new toys.
I will add new stuff to the content when needed.
First I want to start with the kernels and recovery.
Kernels
WTF is a kernel?
The kernel is the communication bridge between software and hardware, is the most important part of any OS.
All OS have a kernel, even windows and iOS but since android its based on linux the kernel must be a GPL. So manufacturer must be public the source code of the kernel and third party devs can compile and modify it.
Now since SE decided to open the bootloader of certain devices (and the_laser find the way to do it to the rest ) we can use those nice kernels we are talking about. And this is how to do it.
You will need:
Unlocked Bootloader
This fastboot pack
A custom kernel (.img)
1. Unpack the Fastboot.7z on C:/. There are 6 files and 1 folder. Folder contain fastboot driver.
2. Make sure the drivers are running. Check this thread to see how to install it. Jump to "2. Install S1 Boot Fasboot Drivers..."
3. Inside the pack are 2 batch files (.bat)
1. Drop_here_to_boot_kernel.bat
2. Drop_here_to_flash_kernel.bat
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
The first one (1.) can be used to start the phone with the custom kernel to test. The kernel will get back to original after reboot the device.
The second (2.) its used to flash the kernel on the proper partition. This will persist after reboot (You can flash any other kernel in the same way to overwrite it)
To use this files you just need to drag and DROP the kernel in .img format on selected .bat file.
There will appear a window like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Sometimes the window blinks and dissapear, in that case copy the .img file inside the fastboot folder and repeat the process.
Now attach the phone in fastboot mode.
Fastboot Mode: Turn off your phone, then press and hold menu key (Arc/Neo) or Search key (Play) and attach USB cable to phone. You will get a beauty Blue Light.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
The black window will show how the kernel its flashed or loaded and it will close itself.
Now all its done, you have a custom kernel.
Custom ROMs
WTF is a ROM?
The rom is the software of our devices, the Android OS.
There are 3 kind of roms, Stock or Stock Based, AOSP and CyanogenMod roms.
Stock or Stock Based:
Are the official ROMs or the ones based on the original, with tweaks and stuff added. Normally this kind of ROM (Stock Based) are the most stable choices.
AOSP - Android Open Source Project
Vanilla android, like the nexus devices, its a native android interface and its the base of the next.
CyanogenMod & MiUI
The best custom roms out there. Great support and continuously improved, has unique features to enhance the customization experience. Both support themes.
How to install a custom ROM:
You will need:
Unlocked Bootloader
Recommended custom kernel with recovery
Recomended Baseband (Folder from FXP)
Custom ROM in .zip file
1. Copy the .zip ROM in the sdcard. Its better to put inside a folder (start called with A or Z to easy access.)
2. Flash the proper baseband with flashtool.
3. Now flash the custom kernel recommended for the rom. Check the first post to check how to.
4. Start the phone and boot into recovery. To do this you need a custom kernel with built in ClockWorkMod (CWM). In the arc you need to press several times volume down button to enter into recovery for example.
5. On recovery you should see something like this (maybe different):
To move use Volume buttons, to select use Home button
Select "Wipe data/factory reset". Confirm operation.
Select "Wipe cache partition". Confirm operation.
Go to "advanced" menu
Select "Wipe Dalvik Cache". Confirm operation.
Select "Wipe Battery Stats". Confirm operation.
Go back and select "Install zip from sdcard"
Select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Search and install the ROM in .zip format that you copy to sdcard in step 1.
That's all, you have the ROM flashed and ready to start.
reserved too....
THANKS
Thanks
i am testing cm 7.2 rc1 iyokan
in mk16
nice one thanks
I'm still new to all this, is this method any better or the same as using Flashtool (for installing kernel)?
Edit: nwm, its the same...
Sometimes the window blinks and dissapear, in that case copy the .img file inside the fastboot folder and repeat the process.
i can't do this.whatever i do,the window dissapears
But we have to format system also in mounts and storage..!! Before installing a rom.."

Great! I'm subscribing to this thread.
Can you also explain baseband too?
By the way the images are not showing - no bandwidth?

Thank u very much!
I've succesfully installed a kernel (Doomkernel v04) for the first time.
Followed the steps with neo V to try CM9 and I'm stuck at step 4 of installing custom ROM. The phone simply won't boot.
I have
-rooted and unlocked the bootloader
-installed CWM
-flashed recommended baseband
-flashed the supplied kernel
Any help, please?

Still the same problem... by the way, to add info about the original problem, I encountered bootloop after flashing the 62 baseband but I proceeded to flash the custom kernel anyway.

Try with .64 baseband.
That's recommended for CM9.

Another reason can be, that you've forgotten to format the system.
Before installing a ROM you have to do that too.

I should move a rom to your SD card, then flash a kernel and then flash rom in CWM.
Baseband is not very important. It has to do with the battery, signal reception, call quality etc.
is there any stable custom kernel for xperia pro?
I try custom kernel from this xperia pro ultima but it's not stable

on some of these roms that bootlooped I had to go back in and just do a wipe and it booted up.
So, I finally got CyanMobile running, and so far, its pretty smooth. Its only been about an hour, so I've just been re-installing apps, but so far, so good.
a new version of cyanomobile is avaible.
flash now...
Running mokee os.
Seems pretty stable, and battery life is good. 9 hours running Pandora over WiFi and still over 40% when I her home.

I've been running quarxs most recent cm10 build, and I tried wiping/flashing a couple of the cm7.2 roms over the last week. None has booted for me, so I'm doing something wrong.
My routine has been: Factory reset, flash zip, flash gb gapps, wipe dalvik, reboot.
I'm getting stuck at red m...
Any suggestions? I considered an sbf, but feel like that's always a last resort. Haven't been that desperate yet.
Seems like a problem I was having last week. I posted in the Bravo problems thread and Skeevy responded with this answer:
"Sounds like an ext4 issue. 2 things to try before sbfing. First factory reset from stock recovery, that's it. If that doesn't work then reflash CM10, reboot, go to boot menu > tools > file systems and select ext3. Reboot and flash whatever.
Your problem is nothing is getting saved to /data or /cache -- both of which is a problem when leaving CM10".
If that doesn't help, I ended up flashing the SBF and re-rooting. But I didn't try his advice first because I was in a hurry and couldn't wait on his response(wife was really mad her phone wasn't working all day!).
I managed to get some time this weekend to work on my phone. I had to sbf to get things working well. I had it boot once after formatting ext3 and flashing, but then I made a nandroid before attempting to restore data from a CM10 install and there was no booting or mounting /data after that.
Thanks for your help. I'm loving the smoothness and stability on euroskank!

New builds - who to thank?
I had never really used CM7 before January. I had been running ICS and JB builds since they ran on Bravo.
I must say, I'm really impressed by the stability, responsiveness, and features of of the Skank version of CM7 - and I'm not sure who to thank for the builds! Who builds the roms hosted at the transtour ip, and who hosts them? Thanks a ton...

Introducing my new tool called PRFCreator. With this tool, anyone can easily create a pre-rooted firmware.
What is a pre-rooted firmware
A pre-rooted firmware is a firmware, which already includes root. This is for example important if you want to update the firmware to a version, where there is no public root exploit. To flash a pre-rooted firmware, you need a recovery menu. An unlocked bootloader is not required.
How does the tool work
The tool should be self-explanatory. SuperSU zip can be downloaded from here. [NUT]'s dualrecovery (*.flashable.zip) can be downloaded from here. Recovery is optional and if your device is not supported by dualrecovery, you can use any recovery (just has to be a flashable zip).
Depending on the firmware size and your computer speed, generating a pre-rooted firmware can take up to 7 minutes. The pre-rooted firmware will be created in the directory of the executable and called flashable-prerooted.zip.

The order for the extra files is
Extra flashable
In the order you added it initially in the GUI
APKs
TWRP is recommended for flashing!
Note: If you do not include the kernel in the pre-rooted firmware, it's recommended to flash it afterwards with flashtool (check "system" under Exclude).
Note2: I am not responsible for any damage done to your device or if you end in a bootloop.

I have a question!
What should I check under 'Include' ?
Kernel: Personally I recommend to check kernel. For some firmwares it's important otherwise the phone won't boot.
FOTAKernel: This kernel is used for OTA Updates. I recommend to include it.
Modem: This is the baseband / modem. Some updates can give you slightly better battery life and signal.
LTALabel: This is a partition with regulatory informations. It should not really change the performance of your device. I recommend to include it.

Do I need to include a recovery?
No, recovery is optional. If you do not wish to include recovery you should add this flashable zip under Extra Files to be able to mount system as rw: https://github.com/dosomder/SonyRICDefeat/blob/master/RICDefeat.zip
Note: If your bootloader is unlocked, this is not needed as RIC will be disabled anyway.

Can I edit system.ext4 inside flashable zip?
Yes, you can edit it on a linux machine. You don't have to change anything else in the flashable zip. See here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55547862&postcount=246

What is zip signing?
For a proper flashable zip, zip signing is used. It generates a hashtable of all the files in the flashable zip to verify its integrity. Note that zip signing might double the process time of generating a flashable zip.

Does it wipe my user data?
No.

It will include those in the flashable zip. FOTAKernel and LTALabel are not really important but I thought why not include this feature. Kernel is more important and I recommend to always use the kernel from the firmware you're using.
It should work with all the current ftfs (the tool is built for sin version 3).

Thanks for the reply... What is sin version 3? Also, what are your recommended settings? Tick all boxes or just the Kernel box? What devices/ROMs has it been tested on? Sorry for all of the questions! :laugh:
i just used the xperifirm tool to get the latest z2 .323 update, then used flashtool to create .tft, then your prfcreator tool to make the flashable zip. everything worked perfectly fine (many thanks to the dev's for all this nice and easy to use tools btw), this .zip rom should now be flashable from twrp (i got a locked and unlockable BL) no matter what i have installed on the phone right?
Thanks for your help, i'm new to sony devices and my z2 is only 20 days old, i'm trying hard not to brick it
Wow! Is this magic?
Xperia™ Z (C6602) with Tapatalk!
There was a dev who would create pre-rooted images you could flash on Galaxy S3 phones... that was something very cool!
So, I should be able to flash the zip this creates and have a "pre-rooted" phone image...
I'd half thought you were creating a root-injected FTF file... but this is actually pretty cool as well... (saves the pain that I normally go through to root the image after flashing it... thankful I have an unlocked boot loader...)

The first byte of a sin file (contents of ftf file, the ftf is just a zip) is the version. Currently Sony uses version 3. Well if I would create a pre-rooted zip for myself I would tick all the boxes. I have tested the tool a handful of times on my Z1C.

Good to hear. And yes, that is correct. I still recommend to take a backup in TWRP before flashing it (just to be on the safe side).

It's actually not possible to create modified FTF as Sony uses RSA2048 signatures. And yeah, the tool is mainly aimed for those on locked bootloader

What is the filename of the second file? Are you sure it's created by PRFCreator?
Hi @zxz0O0
Thanks for your reply! This is definitely for locked bootloaders - correct?

Working:
- updater-script (flashing)
- kernel (booting)
- OpenGL (CPU rendering)
- MALI blobs (GPU rendering)
- HWComposer (not updated to latest nameless release)
- Rotation
- Camera
- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- NFC (Android Beam)
- Sensors (ALL!)
- Internal / External SD Card
- Vibration
- GPS
- RIL
Changelog
- Android 5.0.2
- Updated CM Sources
- Fixed Wifi issues
- RIL completely working
- Stock Camera working
- Bootloop Issues fixed
This is NOT A STABLE BUILD.
I STRONGLY suggest to use only stock kernel bundled with the ROM and ArchiKernel V1.6+, unless you want to face other issues

GAPPS download
Where can I download the latest GAPPS (Google Applications)?
https://s.basketbuild.com/gapps
Use the CM12 download link
Bugs
Known bugs:
smart lock with NFC crashes settings
Mobile network is always half the signal strength
Mute not working in calls
Message while flashing in recovery
I'm getting a message: "mount failed dev/block/mmcblk0p12 at /data: Device or resource busy"
That is because of the new type of flashing. It's still flashing though and takes a while. Be patient.
Bootloop
My device bootloops! What can I do?
Before thinking your device is bootlooping, give it at the very least 5 minutes, art takes a while to optimize during the 1st boot.
If that doesn't work, try philz latetst touch recovery.
Get it here
Download the .tar file if you want to flash using Odin.
Use the .zip file if you already have a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP etc)
If that doesn't work, get usefull logs.
See here...
Keyboard isn't working
[EDIT]
SOLVED IN BETA1!!!
Whaaa, I have no keyboard, whats wrong?
Enable "Hardware" on Keyboard settings
No 3G/data
Moster2 said:
How to get working data
1. Download this small shell script here.
2. Put in on your internal storage /sdcard. Via file browser or
Code:
adb push data_on.sh /sdcard/
3. Open the terminal emulator app. Then type the following:
Code:
su
sh /sdcard/data_on.sh
Important: You need working root (supersu or superuser) and do this every time you enable 2G/3G data. Also, you have to have data enabled when executing this script.

Did you flash any other kernel? Use stock embedded kernel (reflash ROM to use stock kernel)
Wifi problems
How can I get wifi working on my murata chipped S3?
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56938378&postcount=739
SD-card problems
I'm unable to use my SD card!
EXT4 and a variety of other filesystems are not supported.
Only FAT32 is supported up till now (until CyanogenMod supports the orther filesystems)
Root
I lost root!
Flash SuperSU in recovery.

CM11 features
CM11 feature 'x' isn't working anymore/missing, when is it available again?
Don't ask for features or ETA's.
The devs are doing this in their spare time FOR FREE!
If you can, you can try to help by learning how to build and code the features (see Building your own CM12 build for the i9300 below)
Changelog
Mainly only new CM12 commits.
Best and easiest what you can do is check this site: http://www.cmxlog.com/12
Dual boot
Can I dual boot this ROM?
Yes:
Extended tutorial with screenshots here
well you can only dualboot LolliPop if it is 1st ROM, i.e you can not use multiboot.zip to flash the alpha CM12 to 2nd ROM directly
you have to backup current apps on the ROM,
wipe data/factory reset from Philz Recovery provided by arter97,
install the Alpha CM12 zip,
then flash arter97 kernel (4.0-beta1),
then flash multiboot.zip followed by the ROM you want and restore your apps when booting in the 2nd ROM
BUT...
- You can't do phone calls (IMEI and Baseband was OK)
- You can't pull down the notification bar, I tried, tried, one finger, two, staring it... but don't... T_T
Because of arter97 kernel
Nameless 2.0 commits
I found the commits of Nameless, can we use it to get 3G working?
No, those commits aren't complete yet.

@RoadXY
I have installed cm12 alpha 2 (now update to 3) with multiboot zip as second Rom.... My first Rom is stock 4.3 and second Rom cm12 with working call.... I use the arter kernel In all the two Rom and I have last twrp
I do this:
-Have first Rom with arter kernel (beta2)
-go to recovery (last twrp) flash multiboot zip and, WITHOUT restart recovery flash cm12,gapps,arter kernel.... Than restart to first Rom and use aSwitch to go to second Rom.... Now you see cm12 bootanimation and WAIT a lot (I don't care how much time) first time I think is bootloop but after try again I'm waiting and is start.... After start i go again in recovery and after flash multiboot zip I flash the last beta of super Su to have full working root....
Hope this can helpful and add to faq
Added screens of cm+kernel version and aswitch to see I'm on second rom

nevermind bro, I'm sorry about your lost, I freaked out when phone didn't boot up, but after I do some crazy stuff here (like reinstall stock rom, factory reset and after this, install DWUI ROM the phone starts successfully! but factory reset/wipe data, dalvik cache and other stuff didn't work using TWRP, that's why the ROM don't boot here. so, sorry again, great ROM! (phone isn't that great, but xposed + supersu are awesome!) thank you again!!

@cha0scl0wn Great job bro! It is a pleasure working with you to bring OneUI 3.1 Port to M30. Looking forward to work on more future projects with you.
I installed this Rom. Everything worked fine but somehow my samsung bootlogo changed to hutchison 3 bootlogo. Now I can't get back samsung logo. Don't know which partition it got saved in.
(Edit: Found & replaced files in the location. It's inside omr partition. omr/res/media. The rom is from Ireland so maybe in India it pushes those boot logo qmgs in that directory itself when you setup your device for first time.)

Yes, I noticed that. Also, there is no always on display. I rooted and tried to push Aod in system/priv-app but magisk is not working properly in this rom. Tried magisk v22 stable and canary but rooting doesn't work properly. Maybe we have to wait for sometime for new magisk version.

1.Hotspot not working at all? Please send me logs, I will take care of it.
2.I never faced slow Bluetooth pairing, was fine for me.
3.Very low Call Volume, none of the 4 testers reported this, check your earpiece speaker and get it replaced.
4.Adaptive brightness is a part of Samsung Camera Framework, might never work due to Samsung Camera issue.
5.Use OpenCamera or any other app for regular clicking pics and video capture. Read the telegram changelog once before reporting bugs, I have clearly mentioned the Samsung stock camera app is NOT working.

A40 does not have AOD feature. Pushing only the apk does not work, it needs some more files.
Since I am shipping a permissive kernel which magisk is known to have issue with rooting might cause some unknown issues.
An enforcing kernel should fix this, will be released soon.

Instalei esta Rom. Tudo funcionou bem, mas de alguma forma meu bootlogo samsung mudou para hutchison 3 bootlogo. Agora não consigo voltar o logotipo da Samsung. Não sei em qual partição ele foi salvo.
(Editar: arquivos encontrados e substituídos no local. Está dentro da partição omr. Omr / res / media. O rom é da Irlanda, então talvez na Índia ele empurra aqueles qmgs do logotipo de inicialização naquele diretório quando você configura seu dispositivo pela primeira vez. )

1.Hotspot não está funcionando? Por favor, envie-me os logs, eu cuidarei disso.
