Can't install kies on win 7 64bit PC. Installation goes fine, but when starts the first run, the following message comes saying that kies cannot run.
Have uninstalled, rebooted & reinstalled several times.
Also, have tried this "sfc /scannow" from command post to clear any problematic dll's. Still no use.
The Message is as follows.

I'm using Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, no problem
at all.
Suggestion, uninstall, full shutdown, not reboot. Turn off power, pull out power plug for one minute.
Startup again, install Kies (make sure your version is downloaded from Samsung Mobile website which is the same country as your CSC). Do a shutdown again.
Bootup, let your system bootup fully. Plug in your Note and let all the drivers install complete before you start Kies.
Hope the above helps.

I would do exactly what zard (post #2) is suggesting, I pretty much did the same thing when I had a problem with Kies and it went away.

I have a similar problem.

I just checked, there's a new version of KIES on the Samsung site (Ver 2.2.0.12014_18_7). I'm on Samsung India. Downloading it right now. I'll report back with results as soon as I install it.

the issue can only be solved with changing the compatibility settings. Enter the properties of the file. Use compatibility with windows XP SP2. Check the admin prev also. Working fine.

This worked for me
I'm connecting a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to a pc running Windows 7 Pro x64. Kies would only run in lite mode and crash when I switched to normal mode. Since Kies is really a .Net Framework application, I downloaded and installed the latest (RTM) version of dot Net 4.5 and installed it. Then I ran Windows Update which updated dot Net and in addition, the phone's driver. I rebooted and all ran fine. If you're trying to sync your Galaxy Note 2 with Outlook 2010, remember to make sure that you either start Outlook first or make sure it starts up (automatically) when the Kies software initializes.
Hope this helps someone

naw just uninstall everything of samsunf kies products. Must completely done.then install ccleaner. clean everything and registry.then reboot. and install a new version of kies. I'm sure I has this problem b4. but after I did like a said above everything goes fine.

Help - Kies will not link to phone

I have installed the letest version of Kies (Kies_1.5.1.10071_32). When I try to link the phone to pc in Samsung Kies mode there is no reaction from the pc.
If I connect in Mass storage mode I can see 2 drives in windows explorer.
I have Un-installed Kies, rebooted and re-installed.
I have removed the drivers that were installed and retried.
I tried to contact Samsung support. Their response was:
1. De-install.
2. Reboot
3. Remove USB drivers.
4. Install Kies.
5. Re-check by connect.
when advised this did not work and that I had tried on another computer with same results I was told that there was a 'configuration problem'
They do NOT support configuration problems.
I said that problem appears to be that no drivers is being loaded that is compatible. Their response was 'we do not support'
They said could try format pc hard drive and reload Windows then hard reset phone.
Can any one help.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium
PC is Samsung laptop R580. (yes I know but still not supported).
In advance of any help I thank you.
I had a similar issues earlier. My SGS would ay it was going into Kies mode then flash back to the home screen, then back to kies mode. This was both on my Win 7 and XP PCs.
I had to use Odin to totally reinstall the firmware.

Is your W7 x64 or x32?
This topic should be made sticky. I had the same problem too.
I have noticed on some other sites that people seem to say that a previous version of Kies may work. Does any one have access to previous versions.
One site suggested version 1.5.1.10056.
Sorry forgot that part. It is 32 bit.
In case it helps list of apps installed, other than standard: (But do not think any will interfer as I am on the 'idle' or home screen after close all.

Same issue here. Formatting my PC didn't solve the issue (I needed to do it anyway, thankfully).
Are you using a different launcher perhaps? Make sure you have touchwiz set as the default launcher or kies will not connect to the phone.
Have just found a message on the Samsung community site.
The pertinent message is:
Hi,
At the moment there is a connectivity issue between the phone and the software. The software will only pick up the memory card,if using one, but not the phone memory. The issue has been raised to the headoffice and a resolution is expected soon in the regard.

Any further advice?
connection to keis can be easily fixed
I had this problem too. It was caused because only in idle mode of the Samsung home rancher can keis connect. You may have installed a different launcher. Try the following:
Put use to keis mode in settings
download home switcher from the market
run home switcher an set touchwiz as default home
Reboot phone (task killing other launchers don't work for me.)
make you phone is in the home screen - press home to get there
now connect the cable with keis running on pc
sync everything you need to
In future I suggest you move all contact to Google so they sync over the air and you'll no longer need keis. crappy software!
Tried suggested by ryukent and did not seem to work for me.
I have now decided to give up on Kies and use alternate software.
# Google for contacts
# Use MTP mode for devise management.
# Sync music with MediaMonkey
Where did you get that version of kies? From samsung-firmware-webs.com?
I think that's not an official release and It seems that it has connection issues.
Kies tells me the latest version is 1.5.1.10062
according to the website it's 1.5.1.10071_32

Strange then why does Kies not find the update like it usually does?!? Those with connection issues I would still give the older version a shot.
Quick Question, I'm in the US, but using the Euro SGS. When installing kies, I should select UK instead of US, correct? Or does it not matter?

Doesn't matter. Kies "location" is basically for installing of Samsung Apps as it displays apps for your region only. However, since there are no apps from Samsung (other than the default already on the phone) it doesn't matter.
I chose UK on desktop and US on laptop if u were wondering...no difference (that i can tell at least)
..i suggest you skip kies.. not a good application at the moment.
..what I do is to extract the installer and copy the USB driver from my temp folder in windows 7.
..install the driver and you are set.. your phone will be detected.. you can now use drag and drop method or 3rd part application to transfer media or applications to your phone.
..as per "ryukent", make sure you have the TW Launcher set as default and use Home Switcher.. very useful app.
..and if your issue is something where your phone is not detected even if you have TouchWiz enabled and the phone is always trying to connect but never successful.. it might be the time to perform a "format" on the Internal SD card and "restore" the phone to Factory Default.
Kies will not work once you have installed too many application in your SGS. But it will work well once you reset your SGS to default setting.
or
Try to take out and put back the USB till it can detect.
Check it out
I have the same problem. It's clearly to do with either an app or setting in the phone, possibly media causing the phone to fail to connect to kies.
At home Vista 32 will cause MTP application to continually crash to the touchwiz UI and then rerun MTP application ad nauseum. I have a totally stock SGS, no launchers nothing. This is a BUG on the phone software.
At work, (XP 32) the launcher simply says initialising and sits there forever.
I have raised a support email with samsung but I haven't heard anything back yet. I reset my phone once to make it work again, but I'm not going to do that again, I finally have the config the way I want it and all my contacts in the right spot.
Drivers
I also had some trouble in the beginning. But I loaded new drivers and now it connects to Kies every time. I have Windows 7 64 bit at home and Vista 32 bit at work. Both work fine. Found the drivers when I googled this problem.

[Q] Botched UniversalAndroot Attempt - Am I screwed?

(Moved from development forum, newb root thread)
I recently received my phone back from a HTC repair. I hadn't used it til today as I was waiting for froyd 1.5 to come out before rooting it and setting it up. Today I switched it on and it asked me if I wanted to update the software, I clicked no. Then I followed the steps in the OP but had problems in step 5 : everytime I typed anything (including "su") and hit enter I had a message saying "denied" or words to that effect, despite the UniversalAndroot program giving the "woot rooted" message.
This is the part where I might have done something stupid - I decided to let the phone update itself to the latest software, and then I was planning to run the UniversalAndroot again. I thought that maybe UA had been tested on the latest official HTC stuff but not whatever 2.1 but not fully updated version that mine had come back from repair with. It went to the update screen and the progress bar completed, it tried to reboot but just got stuck on the white boot screen with the green HTC logo. If I pull the battery out and start again it just hangs at the same screen.
I can get the 2.73.405.5 WWE RUU to see the phone when in fastboot, but when I try to update it it eventually gives me error 140 "bootloader version error".
I tried to load it through HBOOT using kazuni's technique in his thread "A way of flashing the RUU rom extract" (sorry, it won't let me paste a link to the actual thread) but it says "main version is older, update fail". Do I need to send it off to HTC again? I just got it back! Will they be able to tell what broke it and refuse to fix it?
Many many thanks
Try the 2.1 downgrade in my sig below.
Please could you explain "The recovery can be flashed via running 'runindos.bat'."? I assume I need to install this adb program that people keep mentioning?
Also what is the goal here? To upgrade my phone to 2.1 (which was already on from the HTC repair, the OTA update just said something about adding g-sensor calibration tool) to then root it or to downgrade my phone to 1.5 to root?
Many thanks!
Ah, just seen adb guide on villain forums. OK, I'll follow the guide to get adb installed, put your recovery files in the /tools folder, but then how exactly do I flash the recovery? Simply by typing runindos.bat in cmd whilst in the correct folder?
Ah, I see, I just run the batch file from your recovery download. Sorry for all the dumb questions! I ran this with my phone on fastboot usb but it said this :
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found

"Your phone will now reboot into normal mode, then reboot into recovery mode. I
f it does not reboot the second time, wait 10 minutes and manually reboot and be
gin again."
error: device not found
As far as I can tell nothing happened on my phone. I assume my usb drivers are fine as the RUU was able to begin updating before it gave me the 140 version error. Any ideas?
It's the ADB drivers, what OS are you using?
I am using Windows 7. I thought i read that the latest version of htc sync had drivers fully compatible with win 7 and the RUU seems to see it fine once I selected 'my htc' drivers under adb in device manager. I am confused!

You may want to build an XP workstation eitha virtual or physical. Don't be alarmed. Yes, the latest version of HTC Sync does contain the drivers. However, they some what don't work for majority of users. Sorry.

Yeh, to install XP you will need an install disk, unless you download XP Trial version VHD. This is the trial version from Microsoft in virtual machine mode.

[Solution] Android MTP driver install error with KIES 2.x I9100 (Galaxy S2)

Hi all,
Yesterday I stayed till 3 AM trying to flash the new firmware to my 9100, but KIES was so unstable that I decided to re-install.
We all know if we simply install Kies under XP, there is an issue with an Android MTP driver failing to install. No matter what you do, it won't install. This is the driver that Kies requires to work in order to sync contents and flash new firmwares.
After trying different options and settings, the solution is quite simple. Follow the steps (XP tested):
1.- Remove Kies entirely.
2.- Remove Samsung USB Drivers
3.- Reboot.
4.- Install latests .NET framework.
5.- Download and install latest Windows Media Player (ver 11 for XP). This is the key, since it installs a User mode driver framework used by Kies.
6.- Reboot
7.- Download and install latest Kies. Reboot.
6.- Plug in your phone. It will detect everything.
8.- Start Kies.
This should make it.
Hope it helps!
Cherni.
I had Rooted and Custom ROM-ed with AOSP GingerMOD.
Then when connected to PC via cable, W7 failed to install MTP driver.
Heres what worked.
Turn off USB Debugging on the phone. Reconnect via USB storage mode.
Voila!
Am not using Samsung Kies. so dont know whether it will work with the same trick.

He said version 11 for xp lol.
BTW, for those of you with windows 7 enterprise N - The "N" means no multimedia drivers, so media player would not be enough.
You need to download some 300+MB package which I don't remember the name. and then media player.
I meant W7!
Well I just tried this and it didn't work, am losing hope here...I already tried everything and nothing works

All this started when I updated from version 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 through KIES
Hi, were you able to solve? I'm stuck at the same point, tried almost everything and i'm still getting the MFT driver error with my Galaxy S 2.
OS is WinXP 32bit, I tried before with Kies version 2.0.3.11082_152_2, then yesterday with 2.0.3.11082_152_4, no luck.
I tried the suggested Windows Media Player 11 procedure, i did the whole process as written in the 1st post (installed .net 4, then WMP11, then reboot, then Kies, then reboot again) and it didn't worked.
Before that i tried with USB debugging mode, i tried following what Kies says (connect device, got the error, disconnect the device then go to "tool -> the crap that should be supposed to repair drivers but that truly does nothing", then reconnect the device just to get the error again), I tried a tool i found somewhere on the internet while reading HUNDREDS of pages of users having the same error (Samsung engineers, that means that you really SUCK!) "FileSearcherforKiesFix" to find files with long extension on my SD, deleted some files (was only some thumbnails), NOPE, still getting the same F****n' error
So, were you able to solve in some way this error? How?
Thank you for your help, and sorry for my english (i'm Italian).
and if that doesn't work...try a different USB port on your computer. I have found that only one of the 4 on my t410 thinkpad plays nicely with the samsung usb drivers...
having said that, i have sworn off kies entirely and will only use Odin,
I'm on the Galaxy SII and was having similar problems. Went to the samsung website, DLed the USB driver, then to get the MTP to work: Turn off Debugging, go into "wireless and network", then into USB Utilities, unplug usb, click connect to PC, then plugged it back in, and bingo, we have a winner.
I didn't read the entire thread to see if this method was already posted, to f'ing tired!
Hopes this helps.
edit: looks like Kragusk did a similar (exactly the same?) install. So yeah, what he said....
the fix
This fix for windows XP was discovered by a chap named Dennis.
The problem is caused by some drivers from WMP11 failing to install correctly.
(WMP11 contains the MTP drivers, nothing to do with Samsung or USB drivers)
You just need to re/install them
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfrd.sys xxx_wudfrd.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfpf.sys xxx_wudfpf.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfhost.exe xxx_wudfhost.exe
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfsvc.dll xxx_wudfsvc.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfx.dll xxx_wudfx.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfplatform.dll xxx_wudfplatform.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfcoinstaller.dll xxx_wudfcoinstaller.dll
Then run this file (umdf.exe) found inside the windows media player 11 install
(Hint: download then open in winrar to find the file)
Sorry as a new person I can't post a hotlink to a file.

This not only cures Kies, but almost all other Media Player connection problems as well!
Kragusk said:
Go to Samsung Kies software, on top left of the window, click the menu > Driver recovery.
Let it reinstall drivers
After driver installation finished, go to your phone, Settings> Application > Development, tick USB debugging mode.
Under USB debugging mode connect your phone to the PC with USB.
It installs correctly!
Disconnect from PC
Untick USB debugging mode
Connect again
and it works!

You must shut off windows 8 driver signing security. It installed fine after i did this.
Click Advanced Startup Under The General Heading Under More PC Settings
After Reboot Click Troubleshoot Advanced Options, Advanced System Setting
After Reboot Type Number To Disable Driver Signing Security
Then Load Up windows 8 then install. This time it will ask you weather or not to install the drivers.

Looks like it changed a little with 8.1. Now its located in:
Setting > Change PC Settings > Update and Recovery > Under Advanced Click Restart Now

Your solution allowed Tether to install for me. Do I need to do the same thing for the Samsung ADB drivers?

I can get Tether installed on both my Windows 8 Laptop and my Galaxy Nexus device (running 4.3, no root) and I used to be able to use Tether with no issue about one year ago. Now, however, when trying to initiate Tether, this is what I'm presented with:

This is just repeated infinitely until I manually stop Tether on my computer.
Since this is the only thread that comes up when searching for Tether issues on Windows 8 machines I could find, is there anyone who can help me figure out how to get this back to working order?

.NET Framework 2.0 is not installed on Windows 8 by default.
To install it, go to Control Panel – Programs – Turn Windows features on or off – Check ‘Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1′ – OK.
Note, that .NET Framework 2.0 is included into version 3.5.

I'm also having this same issue so compatibility appears to be broken in Windows 10.

I'm having the same problem myself, I just reported it to the developer so hopefully there will be a fix before too long.
Temp fix at least.

Not too sure, I'm no developer, but I believe there may be issues with the adb drivers. I installed PdaNet+ (same type of app.) and it specifically says Win10 compatible. I allowed it to overwrite the adb drivers with the driver's it determined to be correct and the PdaNet+ app works and tethers to my laptop. I am unfortunately in an area right now with only 2G service so I will not be messing around with it too much tonight but maybe tomorrow I can see if it is going to be a replacement or maybe the new drivers will work with the CM Tether software.
Well i hope they can get too or soon. I dont think its my adb drivers

pdanet+ is blocked by sprint.

Its *not* usb drivers...
...because
adb devices
and
adb shell ps
...work just fine (after authorising).
Justin C thinks its changes to .Net on the ClockWorkMod forum (I can't post a link unfortunately).
Specifically I think the exe is failing to create the virtual network device (TAP) which then gets passed to run.bat
run.bat should then open up the windows firewall but it just fails with very little output when given no TAP index.
So it could also be driver related. I tried briefly adding some third party Windows 10 TAP driver but to no avail.

Tutorial: Install Windows Phone 8 SDK on Windows 7 the Easy Way

Hey All,
I have made a modified installer for the Windows Phone 8 SDK that will run on Windows 7 x64. I installed visual studio before I installed the SDK, but it shouldn't matter as this will install visual studio express for windows phone, if needed.
To install the SDK, perform the following:
1. Download the Windows Phone 8 SDK iso file. You can get it at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=257234&clcid=0x409
2. extract the contents of the ISO to the location of your choosing.
3. Download the modified "WPexpress_full.exe" that is attached to this post and use it to replace the one in the iso.
4. run setup as normal.
Everything will install and work.*
*I was getting an error when I launched the "Application Deployment" app. Once I updated Visual Studio 2012 to Update 3, it fixed it. EVERYTHING WORKS!!
Just wanted to add everything works 100%...I was able to recompile and deploy some xaps I wrote on my win 8 PC to my phone with no issues!

Hi,
Would this work on a Windows 7 32bit ? if not is there a way you can make another patch to make it compatible with Win7 32bit?
Thanks

right now it will only work with Win7 x64 as the developer tools require it to function properly.
Yeah a 32 bit version would be nice. As running via VMware is a little too time consuming for me liking!
It did not work for me... Windows 7, 64-bit system.
I get an error after the installation has gone for a while.
(Screenshot attached).
Won't work for me.. it installs (after installing Visual Studio manually first), but the XAML Interface Builder crashes.
I've successfully installed the SDK on my Windows 7 x64 PC after installing and updating zune and .net framework 4.5. Every softwares are working with the visual studio update 3.
But I don't have succeed to register my ativ s phone because the Windows Phone Developer Registration program is unable to connect the phone. The screen is not locked, I don't have sd card, I try to change name, usb port, without firewall, with date+hour manual. The "Windows Phone IP over USB Transport" service is working and I've installed and uninstalled several times drivers of the phone. When I connected it to pc, windows installed two drivers: for the USB and for the phone but it failed to install a third one for Windows phone 8? Is it useful? not sure because I can discuss and navigate without problems with the windows phone 8 program for windows 7 without problems.
Any suggestions to make my ativ s recognized by the registration programm on windows 7?
I'm getting this error:
A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.
Any hints?
@Gampanat I would try installing Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 first.
The sequences I went through were:
1. install Visual Studio 2012.
2. Install the SDK.
3. The tools wouldn't work...(I forget what the error was)
4. Update Visual Studio 2012 to Update 3.
5. all tools worked great.
When I had to rebuild my Windows 7 box, I did the following:
1. Install Visual Studio 2012
2. Install Visual Studio 2012 Update 3.
3. Install the Windows Phone 8 SDK.
4. Everything "just worked" using this sequence.
@th0mas96
In your case, make sure Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 is installed.
@organite Weird...it worked fine for my HTC 8x on Windows 7 x64. I'd check your internet connection and make sure the tool can get out to the servers ok.
@linusplus make sure your date and time are correct on your system before installation. If it is, try setting the date on your system back to Sept 1, 2013, unplug/disable Internet, and try installing again in offline mode.
Certificate Error

Gents, I was able to install the SDK with the date setting trick, itt seems to be working, I was even able to dev. unlock my phone, but deploying applications just doesn't work I receive an error message:
Exception of type Microsoft.SmartDevice.Connectivity.PlatformNotFound exception was thrown.
Any hints how to overcome this?
Dear Paddyk123,
I met the same problem before,
My machine installed WP 7 SDK, when I removed WP7 SDK and re-installed WP 8 SDK, It installed success,

Are you able to deploy apps to your phone as well?
I was able to deploy apps. Took some fiddling to get the phone to *connect* to the PC, but that's been a problem on my Win8 machine too... *rolls eyes*.
I ve installed successfully on win7x64 but I get this error whenever I try to run a app
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: key
Are you trying to debug an app on the phone, or use the emulator? The last cannot work on Win7; the so-called emulator is actually an x86 virtual machine image running in Hyper-V, and Win7 can't run Hyper-V.
You also may need to reboot.
I`m trying to run the emulator
Hey, have you tried running it inside Windows Server 2008 or just Server 2008 R2's Hyper-V? I don't think there should be any driver differences on the VM side, but that would remove the SLAT issue.
