I'm a HTC Trophy CDMA user in China,The phone can not send Chinese SMS,but the English SMS is correct. How to solve this problem?3Q.
When Use CDMA,I send Chinese SMS is correct, but the other who received is incorrect.
It's all right when use WCDMA.
Install from marketplace connection setup and run it.
Connection Setup will help, but you need to install Chinese language support. DFT is testing a Freedom rom for CDMA/Verizon Trophy (codename SparkW). This rom has built in support for Chinese language, and may help you.
Another option is to install the Chinese language .cab files. This might give you Chinese input for SMS (I do not know how to do this, however).
If you are interest in testing the beta Freedom rom for Verzion Trophy, you need to private message user mwang on this forum. You will also need to install HSPL on your phone so you can install this rom image.
If you need to install HSPL on your phone, DFT's official website may be a better place for you to look for information (since it is in Chinese). Ask any questions you have about your SparkW phone in this forum. If you tell them your problem, they might be able to help you better (plus you won't need to talk in English ).
Actually, I have run into this problem also. It seems that Windows Phone simply does not support unicode characters in SMS in CDMA mode. When I switch my phone to GSM mode and start typing an SMS with unicode characters, it shows the correct limit of 70 characters. Changing the phone back to CDMA and typing an SMS with unicode shows an incorrect limit of 160 characters.
If anyone has any further insight on this, I would love to hear it. Especially frustrating, since I am on Verizon, so obviously stuck with CDMA. Even more frustrating is the fact that it worked fine on my old Windows Mobile...
Weird? So Verizon supported SMS correctly with Chinese characters before, and it works fine with GSM? That is odd. Maybe I'll switch to Chinese or Japanese and see if those languages have issues too. I wonder if the DFT rom is having this issue too?
It quite possibly could be an issue with Verizon's operator package too. Do GoldC users have this problem?
Well, in my case I am using Ukrainian, not Chinese, but yes, it worked fine on my old phone. I haven't actually tested sending the message via GSM, since I don't have a SIM card handy, but it shows the correct limit, which implies that it will work correctly. And on top of that I can receive messages in Ukrainian from other people just fine.
I'm starting to think that perhaps Verizon disabled this in their radio for the Trophy? Is that possible?
It could also be a side affect of the phone being a "world phone" and only allowing certain functions while using GSM. SMS is standardized, so it could work fine in CDMA mode. What mode is your phone in?
We know it gives two-byte characters the correct limit in GSM mode, but is this an issue only in CDMA mode, or went set to "Global" or both?
I usually leave the phone in CDMA mode, but I did some testing and this same behavior also occurs in Global mode. I have to explicitly set it to GSM for it to give me the correct character limit.
I wonder if this is Mango issue or just some silly settings issue. The HTC Arrive is a CDMA only phone, so I wonder if it has this same issue. I know they are having some sort or SMS issues too.. so it may be related to CDMA+SMS period. :/
I've tried a number of methods, such as modifying the registry, add some value, like HKLM_MIME_CODEPAGE, but still can't solve the problem. All normal GSM, CDMA is not working properly.
Perhaps this issue would be better off being posted on MSDN, to see if its a general issue, or something stupid that all CDMA carriers are overlooking.
I will be more than happy to post it to MSDN, but I'm just not sure where exactly to post it. The Windows Phone developer forums? Those seem to be geared towards application developers. I presume this would be something that concerns radio developers? So perhaps going through HTC?
I'm not that familiar with all of this to this detail, so any thoughts on how I can further pursue this are most welcome.
FYI - there is no change in behavior regarding this issue after installing the recent firmware update, based on my tests.
Well, I finally contacted HTC support about this issue, and I got the following reply:
Thank you for patiently waiting while we found the information you needed about the unicode characters being sent through text messages. There will be an update that will come out for your phone very soon that should remedy this issue.

It's good at they are at least aware of it now. I hope the update comes soon!
Perhaps not too surprising, but the HTC update that came out today did not fix this problem - hopefully the next one!

Hi,
I flashed my ROM to an english ROM with regional settings on English (United States). Is there a way to prevent Windows mobile from interpreting incoming phone calls as US phone numbers ?
I mean in France we have 10 digits numbers which we usually display by pairs of digits, i.e. 01 23 45 67 89. However when someone calls me, WM shows (012) 345-6789, which is annoying. Can I disable that formatting and just make it display 0123456789 ?
I didn't put France as a regional parameter because then the days are displayed in French (lundi, mardi, ...) while the rest of the OS is in English (how f'ing stupid is that ??).
Thanks for any help !
Anyone ?
What if you enter the numbers as +33xxxxxxx (+33 for France, of course) or something along those lines. Does that work? Having the "+" sign, might do the job.
In the regional settings you can adjust the format for each single element. So set it to "French" and then change the date format to your needs.

Does that affect the way phone numbers are displayed? I didn't think so, but maybe it does.

To be honest, I don't know I'm still waiting on my Touch HD, which is my first PocketPC with Windows Mobile Phone Edition, whereas my x51v just is a "normal" pocket pc.

I just looked at my Touch HD and I don't see that it would change the phone number display. I only see that you can change how other numbers, and decimals, and currencies are displayed.
Anyway, let's hope your HD gets there soon.
I always enter the phone numbers in the international form (+<country code><phone number>. For france it's +33 followed by the 9 digits of the phone number). That way, I don't care from where neither to where I'm calling, it always works fine.

This has always been a pain with WinMo, and I haven't seen any definitive answer yet. There is a lot of discussion about the problem on these forums and in other WinMo forums as well. Used to come up regularly in the Hermes forums and I think I posted the same question a year or more ago.
I think Google is your friend here, but it will probably take a lot of searching.
In the meantime, roll on WM7. (Lots of wishful thinking...)
hi, Friend "ZoZo2",
Change your regional settings From US to UK. I think your problem will be solved.
I'm having a problem emails in Chinese on my HTC HD. I have 智能输入 installed with the fonts that lets me enter text in Chinese or surf websites.
But when I get emails in Chinese, the subject line comes up fine, but the message itself displays in ASCII, even if I view in UTF-8, and I don't have the option to view in other Chinese encodings.
Is there a component I can install to fix this?
Hi,
I also have an English HTC HD, when I bought it they installed for me:
雅黑字体_14mb , 马兰花全屏手写, and 梅花输入法
and I can see and write Chinese.
I'm also looking for an other pinyin input method, the one I have now is not very convenient for me because when I input in pinyin "hao" the soft propose me characters for "hao, gao, gan" mixed and it is more difficult for me to find the right one...(i'm a french guy and my Chinese is still not very good...)
my solution is with CE-Star installed, and replace the font with the one you liked say msyh, and change the FontLink registry (google it)
and install the SIP you're used to..
that would pretty much done everything
EDIT: you can even change the system language to chinese, meaning displaying almost everything in chinese like you're using a CHS/CHT rom
To any and all of the three of you. I am English but visit Chinaa lot and like to be able to show Chinese characters / SMS messages etc. to taxi drivers etc.
At present, I cannot even show Chinese chacters on my screen (they always come up as ASCII).
Can you explian what:
雅黑字体_14mb , 马兰花全屏手写, and 梅花输入法
is in English and I will try and track it down.
I don't want to replace my SIP or my default language at all - just have Chinese charcetrs display ont he screen.

u got the cab for 马兰花全屏手写 by any chance? i was brought up in the uk so i can't exactly type chinese but i can write a little
雅黑字体_14mb is a Chinese font
马兰花全屏手写 is to hand write, I found it at http://bbs.cnsmartphone.com/thread-441569-1-1.html
梅花输入法 is a pinyin input I found it at http://www.dayhand.com/temp/PlumSIP6VGABeta2.rar
Thank you for the information. I'm sorry to be a pain but since I really can't begin to search for the font:
雅黑字体_14mb
in English, is there any way you could let me know if it is freely available and poiint me in the directin of a download site? I know I'm asking you to do some search for me but I'm not being lazy - I really can't do this on my own.
Thank you in advance for any extra help you can give.
I'm in the same boat. I don't read or write Chinese, but want to be able to display it on a WWE HD. CE-Star corrupted my softkey backgrounds (see here .)
The search continues
Funnily enough I have that same problem with my softkeys and I hadn't even heard of CE Star.
Mine seems to correct itself after every second or third soft reset an d I think was initially caused by trialling AEButtons Plus. Unfortunately, having uninstalled AEB+ many days ago, I wouldn't know which orphan files to look for any more.
Do please update this post if you find an adequate solution to displaying the Chinese fonts. I will do likewise.
In the following website you can find the package I used to display Chinese in the past year or so, on Kaiser and HD, the package also includes an input method but I use touchpal instead for Chinese input.
!!!!!IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!! PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALL
The msjh.cab is not officially supported on HD, I had to install multiple times to get it working - failed installation result in freeze that you can only get your phone back by HARD RESET! However once it works (restart after the phone without freeze) the problem never comes back, I have tried many many times and combination however cannot find a right combination to bypass the problem constantly..
Because of the problems above, please use it with caution. But I have to say this package in combination with touchpal (which are both free) is the best package for Chinese reading/writing I have tried so far, I have used CEStar and Monster Chinese, both have intermittent problems, compare to the package I am using, although not perfect, but it only gives you headache until you get it installed successfully.
http://www.studiokuma.com/wm/?section=support
(click on the link read "msjh.cab (3610KB)" to download, you will need to check the checkbox and click on the accept button on the popup page to start the download)
Note: you can also download the "droid.cab (1469KB)" on the same site, which will install the "Google Droid Sans Fallback" font, its very pretty and clear.
Fantastic - although scary! Since I am only interested in output rather than input, would it be safer for me to just install the Google Droid font? (I assume this is a Chinese font). And is WinMo clever enough to know that all incoming chinese text can be displayed in this font rather than ASCII or do I need to chnage some things to point it there?
Much appreciated lawrencel... I have ibnstalled only the droid font, and all looks well. It required a soft reset after install and no issues whatsoever.
When I try to download from that site, it gives me a 404 error file not found, can anybody upload it somewhere else. I'm only interested in the fonts only as well, thanks in advance.
edit: I went back to the website and tried to download again, noticed that I forgot to turn javascript block off, now it's download just fine. Works on first attempt, was kind of hesistant to install it after what I have read in this thread, but glad nothing bad happens. My thanks goes to lawrencel for the link.
I just downloaded and installed the "droid.cab (1469KB)" with expectation to be able to display chinese characters as well, and as the result, my HD has restarted by itself more than 10 times and I have not even saw the result yet. Now I have to find a way to uninstall it immediately. No sure what is the problem, but my HD cannot complete the reset process and keep restarting itself.
马兰花全屏手写 is this simplified chinese only?
No way to back out. I have to hard-reset my HD. I would advice you not to install this.
I have never seen such an intrusive software.
No easy way out
Here's a detailed reply I got on another forum :
The problem with IE (and any other browser/email program) is that most mainland chinese web pages are encoded in GB2312. A lot of traditional ones use Big5. The code pages for these charsets aren't included in the standard windows mobile builds. There are a few solutions to this problem:
Install the code pages
Unfortunately easier said than done. The relevant file is called wince.nls, and you can get the right version it if you search for it. However the only way to install it is download a ROM where someone cooked it in, or cook it in yourself.
Install CE-Star
CE-Star has a special hack which installs the full wince.nls file. However I believe it's this hack along with their anti-piracy garbage that makes CE-Star so flaky on many systems. However if reading this content is important to you you're pretty much stuck with this option unless you're technical and enterprising enough to muck with the first option.
I am only interested in simplified Chinese, but given what I've been hearing about CE-Star, I most probably won't install it. Until I find a ROM to download, I will stick with A4 and go check my Chinese mail directly with Opera.
And I'll check whether I can get any replacement email program that can handle Chinese, don't know whether QMAIL does.
Has anyone found so far any trusted method to receive sms, mails, surf web in chinese and keep the system in english??
Has anyone install the msjh.cab file lawrencel is talking about?
So far 2 members has installed the droid file, for one it worked marvellous for the another it was a disaster
Sorry to hear this is still a problem for some. What I didn't realise until a couple of days ago is that CE-Star Suite II is bundled with the Touch HD English version here in HKG. The EULA shows "CE-Star 1.1 License Agreement (05-25-2000)". I haven't installed it (and don't plan to because droid works) it but maybe someone has and can report back for other users.
works partially
with both the sunglobe font and ZTA4_VGA installed, I enter text in Chinese, display Chinese without any problem in Opera, IE, SMS, outlook-synched email, and the subject line of downloaded pop3 emails. Of course Pleco works beautifully, but they have their own system. All of the above in both simplified an traditional characters.
What I still can't do is read the body text of pop3 emails, which drives me crazy. I suspect this has to do with GB-encoding (I use simplified Chinese), which does not seem to be supported by either FlexMail or the WM native mail.
The weird thing is, I have an auto-forward from my pop3 email to Outlook at the office. After synching, the emails that come out garbled in my pop3 inbox display perfectly in the outlook inbox. It looks like Outlook does perform the GB to UTF-8 conversion automatically.
I am a noob so please don't jump all over me if it do this wrong or post in the wrong place. That being said and out of the way:
I am living in korea and bought my X1 a few days ago. I don't read korean to well so i flashed an english rom to it. Everything seems to work fine except the messageing service. I can send sms out but i can't get any responces.
I know that SKT uses it's own sms service or something like that...
So my question is: Is there a way to change only the language of the OS and leave eveything else the same?
I would like to keep the stuff that came with the Korean rom (sms service, korean dictionary the panels, etc.) just put the OS in english.
I'm in the same boat and I'd be much obliged if you could say what you found out, or if anyone else can offer some advice.
I bought the X1 in Korea. I love the phone, but like a lot of people here, I wanted an English language ROM. The problem is, like both of you guys have stated, MS-SMS doesn't work properly here. Sending works fine, but you cannot receive any messages.
After a lot of fiddling around, I think the problem has to do with the rilphone.dll file in the Windows directory. The solution is to extract the rilphone.dll file from the stock KOREAN rom and overwrite the file in the English rom. The problem with this is that with most of the downloadable custom roms, once you replace the file, the phone radio stops working, and you get no service at all. Perhaps the solution is to build a custom ROM and cook the rilphone.dll file from the Korean ROM into the custom ROM, but I don't have the skills or time to do it.
I actually got it working on a very old custom ROM, but the ROM itself was buggy and crappy so I ditched it. I think just overwriting the file in the old ROM worked because it didn't have any signed cert built in.
Anyway, I would also love to be able to solve this problem. I actually can read Korean, but the Korean ROM is super bloated with SK Telecom's crappy software and it is very slow.
EDIT: I would even be willing to pay someone a reasonable amount of money to solve this problem. I can provide the Korean rilphone.dll file too!
Does anyone have any advice??? Please???
Honestly I would pay as well. From what I can tell, the most "advanced" phones over here are the Xperia, the Omnia, and the Haptic 2. I can only assume the Omnia will have the exact same problems as the Xperia (being another WinMo phone) and I'm not really eager about the Haptic 2 since I can't seem to find any information at all about it (reviews, forums, addons, extensions, etc etc etc).
I misspoke earlier when I said I was in the same boat; I haven't yet bought a phone, but I'm in the market. I was just at a few shops yesterday messing around with these phones. And not being able to receive texts is (or alternately, not having an English OS) is a deal breaker.
I had this problem as well, except mine was receiving chinese text messages. What you have to do is go into the sms area and click Tools>Options.
It takes you to the screen with all your accounts. Tap on the SMS/MMS and you should check the "use unicode when necessary" box.
That's how I solved that problem
Unfortunately, with the current OS and SK Telecom network, the solution is not that simple. There is a group of Korean guys at a Korean Xperia forum working feverishly to solve this problem, and I understand they have made some progress. But the fix is still a long way off. The people here are probably more experienced and skilled at WinMo.
Yeah, Koream carriers have been deploying their own proprietary text mechanisms.
Long story short, there is a way you can use a cooked ROM with some helps from local hackers. It's a project to incorportate local carrier's structure into the old, good, usual MS-SMS.
http://cafe.naver.com/bjphone/232334
1. delete mms_filter.lnk from your startup folder
2. apply x1-mssms.cab
That's it.

SMS problem in Korea
Hi guys,
I found out this problem after i bought the X1 and changed the ROM to english, to sum up i am in the **** as you....
I am also ready to pay a reasonnable money to whom will find a solution to this problem. Friends sent me so many messages but they are still waiting for my reply...hehe
Please write me if any news, i am still searching on french, korean and english websites...
Thanks!
Korea is a great country, and very technologically advanced. But they seem to make it very difficult for foreigners. In the process, they also unintentionally make it difficult for their own citizens, because most Koreans I know would prefer to use MS-SMS over the crappy, slow, bloated SKT application.
In my case, I don't even need to be able to send SMS in Korean, although that would be great. As long as I could send English SMS, and receive and read English and Korean SMS, that would be fine. I'm hoping there will be a solution to this stupid problem soon.
Other than this issue, however, I love the X1. I recently bought an Omnia and it was OK, but when I found out the X1 was released in Korea, I ditched the Omnia immediately and bought the X1
Correct. I applied it today and am quite happy with it.
Please note it's still beta though.

Oh my God!! It worked! Thank you very much. There are still some bugs, but the functionality is there, so that's all I can ask for now.
Palmwangja, 감사합니다!
Unfortunately, although I can receive messages now, the characters are all square blocks, even with the Unicode setting checked. Any ideas?
EDIT: Just not working right. Even after installing Korean language support, for some strange reason, if someone sends me an SMS in English, I can receive the message but I get the square blocks as text. Can't receive Korean messages at all. Back to square one.
Can someone please upload x1-mssms.cab to rapidshare or email it to me?
I can't seem to login to the Naver board to download the file...I would really appreciate it!
UPDATE 1: Got the file. Thanks anyway. We'll see how the install goes. About to run on stock Korean ROM.
UPDATE 2: Seems to work fine on stock Korean ROM. Haven't tried MMS yet. The author of this hack appears to have posted a list of bugs with this first beta (including possible problems when sending/receiving messages while roaming) and indicates that he will post a second beta (which will probably be the final) soon.

The hack works fine on the stock Korean ROM. I tried it. I want to use MS-SMS, but the more important thing for me is using an English ROM. The hack doesn't work correctly in the English ROM, even after hacking the registry, linking fonts, etc. I can read Korean fine, but the Korean ROM really sucks. It is just slow and bloated.

Yesterday i flashed my wife and my phones with MP7. We both have HTC HD2 T-mobile editions. First i flased with XBmod ROM and found while it was brilliant, Chinese isnt supported.
We installed about 100 apps from the marketplace that allowed us to input chinese, but everytime we sent messages to each other, all we got was a message with some characters, some weird symbols and lots of squares.
As we both live in China, its kinda importants for us to be able to read and write Chinese.
Previously we used WM6.5.5 and we had to install two .cab files (1 for the chinese font, and 1 for the input keyboard) I know MP7 is different and uses .xap files (hense its not backwards compatable), but ive seen on the 'net and here that the chinese fonts are in MP7, but as they are 14mb, most chefs take them out.
Does anyone know of a ROM that has the fonts is embedded or is there a way i can get a modded ROM and put the fonts in myself?
Thanks in advance!
Try YukiXDA ROM.
I remember him testing chinese on WP7.
Brilliant, thanks for the tip. ill check it out!
Not sure if he has stopped support, but i downloaded the ROM with chinese in it from Yuki and didnt support Chinese, but thanks anyway!
Its WP7 not MP7.
Yes thanks. saw my mistake
For what it is worth, I was in a public relations office in Taipei that represents Microsoft Taiwan. One of the managers of a Microsoft account has an HTC HD7. Microsoft Taiwan sent him a program that allows him to read and write Traditional Chinese on his HD7. I am not sure if it would support Simplified Chinese, or if it would work on an HD2 with WP7, but you might try contacting either Microsoft Taiwan or Microsoft China and ask them about your problem. Otherwise, it seems that your only course is to wait until the Mango update is ported to HD2, as I understand that update does support Chinese.
Thanks for that info, ill check it out. We are currently using the "i'm Chinese app". Its ok, but to write an email, sms or search the 'net, you have to open the app, type what you want, then it opens the normal web or sms or email, insert the chinese, then send! i do miss the keyboard from WM6.5 i had!
My next question is trying to get Windows phone device manager to work! i installed it (as admin), plug my phone in, close Zune and wait. WPDM says "connecting to Nips HD2", so it knows my phone is there. It then says "Nips HD2 plugged into USB", but doesnt show the total storage, cell network or battery info and when i click on sonething in the list (manage apps, explore files etc) it says connecting for about 5 mins, then fails with "couldnt connect to Nips HD2". My phone is hacked(?) with chevron, i checked. WPDM also seems to fail to install touchxplorer on my phone. (on the WPMD post it says it should auto install the first time you use WPMD)
Ive read all the pages in the XDA DEV post about WPDM and nothing has worked, ive tried their website, no luck. Ive even contacted themm but no reply. Do i need to give them a donation to make it work, or am i missing something and being a complete noob?
Any suggestions and/or abuse would be great!
Thanks!
I broke my interop unlocked Ativ S. Instead of buying a new one I bought the Ativ SE from Amazon without a contract. I've read every post with "ATIV SE" in it and searched the forum for hours looking to see if any progress has been made with the ATIV SE.
The phone came unlocked, however I can not receive MMS messages or turn on internet sharing with out using a friends Verizon sim card. I have T-Mobile service which is the source of my issues.
Fiddler works to install most other manufacture APPs. I did a stupid thing though and upgraded the phone to windows 8.1 because of Cortana. The Nokia Access point will not install.
Is there anything that can be done with the ATIV SE yet? A lot of post say "all Samsung devices" but pre-date the Ativ SE's release. I've contacted Microsoft, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Samsung trying to figure out the issue or get the phone flashed with a generic ROM but support only wants to point fingers at other companies and rush me off the phone.
Any information is welcome. I've tried customizing the APN settings every way I could and had T-Mobile resend correct setting countless times and still nothing. Verizon did something with the ROM to make it miserable to use on another carrier. I can get the diagnostic app to install but it seems like codes have changed from the Ativ S.
I spent hours trying to get the correct LTE settings for T-Mobile and 6 weeks of frustration makes me want to go buy another Ativ S.
I can't recommend anything besides wait awhile. No work has been done on the device as its specifically manufactured for Verizon.
I would attempt to call Samsung. Say you got an update from Verizon and the spinning gears won't stop spinning after 5 hours. I've heard that Samsung has offered onetime flashing, but I don't remember where.
Once you get a GDR3 version of the phone, try editing stuff inside diagnosis or APNs.
Did you ever get your problem solved with the MMS or internet sharing? Im in the same situation.
Any help is much appreaciated.
Have the mms and Internet Sharing ever been solved for the Ativ SE for WP8 and Official WP8.1? I would like to buy one to use for at&t if it is.

I've been trolling the forums for months off and on. So far there's been progress but after FINALLY being able to roll the device back to WP 8.0 GDR3 and upgrading to the "real" WP 8.1 it looks like Verizon has made things much more difficult. The APN settings are locked and hidden. I was able to get LTE data working again, but MMS and Internet sharing is FUBARed.
Maybe I can't follow directions, but it seems like every way to edit the registry has been patched after upgrading to Verizon's version of the OS.
Root Tool is available in the APP Store, but I can't get it to function.
The Registry Key information that needs editing is readily available on the forum, but I haven't found a functioning method to do so.
If anyone has been able to successfully edit the Registry on an ATIV SE please provide the info on how you did it!
I have no idea how to use the MBN creator either.
What I have figured out is:
1) Able to flash device back to stock
2) Side load unsigned developer apps
3) Find necessary lines in Registry to edit
If anyone has a modded image that works with WP8_Binary_Downloader_Ver._3.54.exe, or can help me put the last pieces of the puzzle together, that would be awesome!

So you're saying you were able to edit the APN for MMS on WP8 and it still didnt work but now with the official real WP8.1, the APN for MMS are hidden and can't even be edit anymore? Man that really sucks! I really like the phone too. Have you tried these

To see if they worked? If you did, sorry for repeating ?

Yes. The Windows Insider APP was updated, so it closed that method of registry editing and Couldn't manage to get write access enabled for CustomPFD. If I could edit the registry the phone would be perfect.

Ok that make sense. So can you sent MMS still? I'm very close to buying this phone for at&t but without MMS and Internet Sharing, I might not, unless you or someone gets it solved. I wish I was a developer.
I tried it again for ****s and Giggles. I got tethering to work!
Am going to play with MMS next
Awesome job man! Keep it rolling. You just made me one more time closer to getting this phone ? Remember to write everything down ?
Root Tool works perfectly fine for me on an Ativ SE with 8.1.1. Unblock RPC by placing the txt file in the Documents folder, unlock your phone with WPPT, deploy the WPSystem unlocker xap, patch Root Tool using the provided instructions and a file explorer (I use Pocket File Manager, I've used others successfully as well), and then once you open the newly-patched Root Tool go to the install xap section, press install (without setting anything up), and it should say failed, but that's fine. Then you can use the included registry editors (the regular one and the Samsung-specific one) with dword and string values. Works fine for me, including interop unlock (but some deploy attempts result in capability errors because of the new security measures). Bootstrap works but not enableallsideloading (including the 2 versions posted later in the thread). All aesthetic changes work perfectly (small font/large screen, 5 action buttons, change model number, accent colors, etc). You can do pretty much anything you can do with an Ativ S, just remember you're slightly stifled by GDR3 and/or 8.1/8.1.1. Let me know if you have any questions or need help. With the small font/5 action button setup and the newest firmware, it's easily the best WP experience currently available. If we can figure out how to rotate the display 180 degrees, we can just enable the navigation bar (which works fine on the SE) and we'll not only have the usb port on top, but we'll also have access to 3 other buttons that can be remapped via the registry.
@tonbonz posted some info regarding using the SE with mbn creator:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60152150&postcount=56
I haven't attempted anything with this information yet, but I may later this week (possibly tonight), and I'll be sure to report the results when I do.
I'll be posting any info I get to this thread, so keep an eye on it:

Also, in regards to the potential issue of new updates breaking exploits, I've found an update lineage that results in the latest OS (8.1.1, OTA) with the stock/GDR3 FW (including the gdr3 diagnosis app, which is different from the 8.1 version). That isn't necessary yet, but it may be in the future and we can always flash back to gdr3 to get there.
Hey G.moe, thanks for the info, so is your MMS & Internet Sharing working with your ATIV SE then?
I managed to get my Internet sharing and MMS working, except I when I recieve an MMS it says file no longer available on server. I think I missed a setting somewhere.
does anyone have any idea where to directly edit the MMS settings in the registry?
That's good to hear man! You're getting there. Your progress is making me a day closer to buying this phone ;D I hope G.Moe can help you out.
GTF696, any luck on the MMS working yet?

Hi. I am using Ativ SE in India, everything is fine but for data i am getting only 2g speeds
I can even launch field test, looks like its blocked
Kindly help me
I just recently purchased an Ativ SE for use on T-Mobile. Like many of you I have been scouring the web for the best solution for the MMS fix as well so it gives me hope to know that through the registry editing it seems you've made some significant headway GTF696. From what I've been coming across this does seem like the most likely way to get this going especially since Verizon has already been duped in this on other devices like the Lumia Icon. Also I've come across a few post that mention having solved the issue and want to know if any one can confirm the method. I'm a new user so I can't post link but if you search "[Q&A] [Research and Reference] Samsung ATIV SE (SM-W750V) – Research and Development Apktop" in google the first link is from someone saying their method on how they setup the registry to workaround the MMS issue. Hope this is actually helpful and useful for all of us and gets us a step closer to fixing this issue
it's not perfect but the ATIV SE, after registration editing, does 100% work on T-Mobile. Unfortunately Verizon had Samsung heavily modify the OS and remove features that allow for APN Modification. The Methods I used should work with any GSM carrier however what you specifically need to do will be carrier specific. If you search for ATIV SE on the forum you should be able to find everything needed. Unfortunately, while the ATIV SE is one of the best windows phones available it's under valued, under supported, and Verizon made it a pain in the ass to use unless it's on their network. I wouldn't recommend this device to anyone, not even Verizon customers, for that reason.
The general idea of what I did was wipe the phone phone, Flashed the original Rom, upgraded the device Over the Air, and then installed the registry editor and customized a few strings. All of which has been talked about in detail on other posts. You HAVE to have an SD card.
