Extended Battery? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm having some issues with battery life on my device. I don't remember exactly how long my battery used to last, but I was thinking it was maybe 15 hours or so on one charge. I could get through a whole day without charging, but now I'm going maybe 10 or 12 hours if I'm lucky. Because of this I was thinking of investing in an extended battery. Has anyone had any good experiences with extended batteries? If so how much longer do they last and what brand?

Hey, honestly, I've had a better experience by toting a second battery around. Extended batteries are usually really expensive, and give maybe 6-8 hours of extra juice. While buying a second battery is cheaper, and it also gives you the added benefit of a WHOLE battery. It has saved the day more times than I could remember. Just a thought...

Lies! I got an anker 1550 mAh battery off of Amazon for 6 dollars shipped. Best thing I've done for my phone. Buy one. You shan't regret it.

I would carry a second battery around that's charged but that means I'd have to take off my case and that is a pain in the butt. But I will consider that option if I really have to.

Finally it seems that Seidio has come out with an extended battery that fits without having to replace the back cover.
http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BASI15HTCX1
It is only 1500mAh which is about 10% more battery power but that might just be enough for some people to make it through one heavy day of use.
Part # BASI15HTCX1
The compatibility tab on the manufactures site says it will work with the Touch Pro / Fuze.

I might have to get me one of those.
Side Note: i just noticed you live in orlando, FL so do I. Do you go to ucf?
Seems like a lot of money for a little more power. I think I'd rather buy 2 extra batteries and a charger for half the price and just keep an extra battery on hand... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2x-Battery-13...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:15|39:1|240:1318
For what it's worth, I picked up one of these and slapped it in my Fuze last night. I know it'll take a handful of power drains to fully "charge" it up, but will report back when I can.

I bought something similar to this on ebay. The two batteries I got last a lot shorter than the factory battery. I cycled the batteries 5 times and still the capacity has not increased. I would say I get about 25% shorter battery life with these batteries...they do a good job of making them look authentic...minus they all have the same serial number stamped on them...
ahh i was hoping it had more mah, its not even worth the extra money to purchase this. the things people make, its not even worth it.
Has anyone ordered or used one of these? I'm interested I just want some opinions before I go and spend 44 US dollars on it.

Conditioning a Li-Ion battery is a myth and you only speed up the lifetime of the battery that only lasts about 2-3 years.
When you get your phone, you should plug it in, charge it to full, and have fun with it. None if this "charge, discharge, charge, discharge" is needed.

It's not a myth, sort of.
It takes a few cycles for the sensor to accurately understand the capacity of the battery. This means the battery might be detected as "empty," when there's some left.
After that, you only need to "recalibrate" once in three months or so to stay updated. For everyday use, you are right. It's better to charge whenever possible (but constantly trying to "charge" at 100% is not a good thing, even with the "smart chip" halting the process).

nice to see other ucf knights on here.
So, does anyone have any thoughts on the seidio extended battery? How much longer is it lasting for you all? How much of a difference does it actually make?
As I posted before, I got the battery the other day. Thus far, it seems to extend my capabilities enough to where I only have to charge my Fuze once a day. The exception was Friday when my bus got stuck in traffic, so I watched video for an hour. Previously, I could last about 8 hours before needing to charge.
For what it's worth, I'm a heavy SMS and data user. Don't really talk all that much, but do a lot of SMS, surfing, apps, and other PDA-ish activities with my Fuze. Running the Elite RC2 ROM as well.

So what does that mean. How many hours are you getting now? I understand you were only getting up to 8 hrs before, correct?

Went from about 8 hours to about 12-13 hours, unless I do something super-draining like watch video for an extended period of time. Mind you, I've only had the battery in what... 4 days now, so this is still very limited scope.
Today, I was up at 6AM @ 100%... spent about 30 minutes surfing on the train, during my commute in... did some SMS... and just spent the last 90 minutes stuck in a meeting playing Freecell... and am at 57% full.

and also as a backup! the main reason i might buy this is not to completely replace my original battery, but between the two, you can easily get through a heavy day of usage... now to find a charging dock for the extra battery...

This might be true for laptop batteries but not necesarily true for phone batts.. the phones monitor the battery's voltage and compute the state of charge based on that.. there is no "smart" guts in phone batteries

High Capacity Li-ion Battery

I have just got a new battery from HongKong for my HD.
It is 1500 mAh and they claim 50-80% longer use after 2 or 3 charge cycles.
it is an X level High Capacity made by Momax, a very large company making batteries for many companies. Comes in full retail blister pack and is specific for the HD. I have used a normal Momax before but not the X Level, will report after a few days use.
Cost me USD $20 from Ebay about £13. ordered on 21st December and arrived today. Ebay seller is eshopmomax. their web site is www.shop.momax.net, included was a discount voucher for HKD $17 off my next purchase before Dec 2009..
oooh, sounds nice! Will eagerly look forward to your next post on this.
I wonder how much they pay for advertisement on this forums

Sorry but you will not get anywhere neat 50% improvement. At most you will get about 12% improvement going from 1350 to 1500. Claiming that the capacity will increase from 1500 to over 2000mah in several charges is very odd. Why not advertise it as a 2000mah battery - simply because it cant.

You don't need to apologize, friend. Keep telling us about your experience with this battery. I'm interested.
Thank you for your information. Dont bother with some people who made perhaps bad experience.
Really interesting site, interesting stuff and amazing shipping costs.
I'm insterrested too to know if there is really a difference. I'm a very big user of the PDA and my battery is empty in 10 hours
Yep,
Here too. I have to re-charge every evening/night.
Momax just got a new customer...
I'm interested too in knowing the performance of the high capacity battery after say 1 month. I ordered an after market one before but it became useless quite quickly. So this time, I ordered two original battery manufactured by HTC. I have the spare with me so that I need not stinge in the usage.
Interested as well... because after a month somehow my normal battery lasts somewhat more than half a day, even with medium-low phone usage (no Bt, wifi or data)
So, if this is the standard of the proper HTC battery, i'm more than interested maybe in a better quality and even aftermarket higher capacity battery.
Keep us posted on your experience (shipping, battery life etc...)
Update: Just ordered a battery, charger and silicon case for <40 Euro inc. shipping... might as well try myself
Every night?????
It sounds me terrific.
Me, in your shoes, should review my connection settings. Possibly, someone is connecting unceasingly and draining your battery.
Three days ago, I travel Pamplona to Malaga (near 1000 Km.), using GPS, phone, mp3, ebook reading, data connecting...
Yesterday I have returned, and, yes, I must to re-charging (7 %). Two complete days of intense use.
Think deeply who's eating your power, mate.
Regards.
Nacho Garcia.
I too seem to be able to get two days of intense usage before battery runs out. HD really surprised me with its incredibly long battery life. I might not have bought the extra battery had I known that the battery is that good. However, with the extra battery, I start forming the habbit of letting it run to warning level before charging in order to prolong its life, and I carry the spare when I see that the remaining level is getting low.

With my standard battery I would take it off charge and with moderate use (2 or 3 calls and check emails every hour by the time I got home after 8 hours battery was on about 20-25% so had to charge every night. Put in the new battery about 10am Yesterday, again low/moderate use when I went to bed at 11pm it was on 30%. By the time I got up this morning it was flat. Dont know what is draining the power.....
just bought one from momax yesterday and paid via paypal, it´s already on the way, I´ve been mailed a tracking number. Very quick service
Among others, both wifi and dataconnections will sap power, but you might just have a bad battery. Using the tweaks found on this forum (read the wiki) there's an option to release the dataconnection if unused (just like the standard wifi option) which might help. Perhaps you could buy one of these high capacity ones seeing as they're not expensive (otherwise you wouldn't have the HD ) and see if it makes a difference?
I live in HK and I bought mine Momex weeks ago, however, it's slightly bigger than the original and the battery cover was popped out a little bit around the volume button..didn't use that thereafter.... just thinking to buy a spare original one when it comes out in HK.

Battery Options for EVO

So right now I have some choices:
Go with a Seidio Innocell 3500mAh that will be about 60 bucks through Amazon that has a massive hump in the back.
Go with a solar power battery of some sort (they have 3500 mAh batteries online)
Go with cheap backup batteries.
Try recharging the battery in the method that HTC recommended.
What do you guys think?
Just curious...why? As a backup or did you have a problem with your battery?
I'd cop an extra battery, I hate the added bulk but that's just me.

+1, they are not expensive either, though I do think the actual EVO battery cost more than a Touch Pro or TP2 battery, which, by coincidence, are the same as the stock EVO battery....
I want a new or extra battery because:
Even with all the phone setting tweaks, my battery life is still pathetic. I want something I can run the phone normally with, without having to worry about my battery going dead.
And my phone did not receive the new update, which supposedly helps the battery life out.

How bad battery life you getting? I am able to get around 12-15 hours of use which is pretty good for me.
It seemed to be doing better, lasting longer than before but today, I pulled it off the charger, it was at full battery. Then I had it sit there for about an hour and half maybe (doing nothing) and I looked and all the sudden it's down to just over half battery life.
I'm not sure what's going on. Before the Network setting change, I couldn't even use the phone for 20 minutes without the thing dropping to 75% charge. After that it lasted much much longer, except for today.

hah yeah , definitely need to get an extra battery. I want a yellow battery like in that HD Mini!
I am convinced that there was a bad batch off Evo batteries. You might find that another 1500mah solves your issues.
Also, be careful with the 3rd party 2000mah battery as it is reported to have a real world capacity off approx 1100mah!!

60 will get you 12 aftermarket tp2 batteries and 6 multi function battery chargers, batteries rated at 1500 but I don't believe they are actually that high, I'm standing at 7 hours of above moderate use on one, would easily last me through a day of work at normal use. THIS IS OFF EBAY. These batteries have not been conditioned by me yet, so I'll do that and test again.

Do you think that a non-removable battery will be a problem?

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S5, and I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to the S7 Edge...however the fact that I can't change my battery is one of the problems I'm afraid of. I'm a hardcore gamer, and after 2 years, my battery for the S5 was dying quickly, so I had to change it. I started using the phone almost all day to play Marvel Future Fight towards the past 6 months and that is what really messed up my battery I think. So I'm wondering if I upgrade...if the phone will last 2 or so years? Cause I ain't got the money to be upgrading every 6 months or every year lol.
What are your thoughts?
Even tho it doesn't has a removable battery like your s5, you can still have the battery replaced by Samsung. Downside is that you can't carry an extra battery with you in case you run out of battery during the day.
So I came from the LG V10 with free extra battery promo. I went through 2-3 full charges a day. I've been on this battery since 8am today. It's 5:49pm and I'm at 54%!
Oops sorry... Just realized you're more worried about the battery's ability to hold charge down the road.
Haven't owned a phone more than 6 months so I'm not sure lol. You could always get one of the charging cases later on when prices drop.

Lol yeah the battery lasting long sounds amazing, but after 6 months of gaming every day, I'm sure it will take a toll The charging cases sound like a pretty good idea though.
It does costs more than getting an extra battery for your s5, but you won't have to pay for a new phone every 1-2 years. Nowadays most phones have non-removable batteries, except for the Lg G5, but it has a 2800 mAh battery when the s7 edge has a 3600 mAh.
it's not an issue in the sense that no one keeps a phone 4 years nowadays. For instance, using a QC 2.0 adaptor shortens the battery life, however over 1 or 2 years, it is barely noticeable. It is noticeable only if you keep your phone for years and years. But most people change every year.
These batteries are good, they're not super cheap, so it will be ok. Samsung replaces the battery only if it's really defective, not if you lost like 5-10% of the battery charge.
I have two bloated S5 batteries first lasted 18 months and second lasted 6 months which was last week. I was a very heavy user and my phones over heat. My old HTC EVO had to be in the freezer a lot and had 5-6 batteries. But I believe a with normal use the battery should last 24 months. I have been thinking of putting phone on discharge timer to plug in and unplug.

Damn, well I'm barley on my second battery after almost 2 years lol. My S5 overheats a lot now and sometimes I don't use it much. I probably also won't play games while charging my phone either cause that'll kill the battery's longevity more than usual.

They will replace just the battery, for the s7/s7 edge they use heat to open the back cover and they replace the battery. On the s6 they also had to remove the screen in order to get access to the battery (you can watch videos of how they do it).
From a quick search online, it costs $45 + shipping to replace the battery on the s6 in the US, I could be wrong as I have no personal experience.
I know we're talking about different device's but my z ultra (heavily used) and Z3CT both still rock battery like the day I bought them. Hence why I'm not worried to much. Don't let it put you off a device also you could always change battery after a while just a little bit harder to do lol.

My previous phone was the S5 and I wasn't to happy about going to a phone that doesn't have a removable battery seeing as all my phones had a removable battery. That is one reason why I went with the S7 Edge so I wouldn't have to worry about the battery as much.

TL;DW - at first I thought I liked the Hyperion better, but after a week with each, it is easy to tell the PowerBear is the superior product. It has 100 more mAh, it has much better packaging, and the physical pieces seem to be better as well.
Either one should last you from morning to night with zero concerns. Neither one would get me close to 2 full days off of one charge.
And most surprising, the V20 seemed slower after a few days, then I realized I normally restart every day due to swapping batteries. With the PowerBear and Hyperion, I would charge overnight and not need to restart the V20.
Could have been something else, but I have been using the V20 every day since November, and it was relatively smooth. I also restart it at least once a day, prior to getting the extended batteries.
So for now, I'll just use the PowerBear when I know I'm going to need some heavy duty battery life, and I'll just use the regular battery as my daily driver.

Yeah, I don't doubt it, but I don't like the brick size trade off. With the 6500/6400 mAh batteries you just get a little hump that I kind of like.
I find I don't like those rubbery covers, so I definitely wouldn't like the ZeroLemon. I did see where people would hollow out the Otterbox, but I am not that crafty
