HTC HD2 LCD/Digitizer replacement questions - HD2 General

Hi guys,
sadly my hd2 dropped on the floor and now lcd and digitizer are broken.
I want to replace it and read some threads here how to do it.
the only question I have: does it depend which version (tmobile or not) I take if I buy the digitizer and lcd screen in one unit? I know some need to be soldered but does this still apply when the digitizer and lcd screen are already combined?
kind regards

best just going for 300 type which is the connector version & buy it as pre assembled unit.
the digitizer on the 300 type is far better than solder version plus it allows you to easily repair just one component in the future if needed.
If you have a standard SPL you can see what version you have by going to Boot screen (posted on this before)
Take a lot of care stipping device as they are very delicate.

thanks for the fast response.
300 type? would that only include lcd screen & digitizer to buy or do I need something else? sorry for my noobish questions but it seems I'm not an expert in it.
kind regards

300 type is plug type connection from digi to lcd
295 type is solder connection from digi to lcd
be sure before ordering that the LCD & Digi are already bonded together as factory bonding is very good & makes job much better & much easier for you.
Buy 300 type unless for some reason you really don't want to.
300 type may or may not have T-Mobile logo so clarify that prior to purchase.
300 & 295 as complete assembly (LCD & Digi) are interchangable on any HD2 model.

thanks man that helped me out a lot !

Are you sure it is not better to upgrade to a new device for the same money?

New device for 50bucks, certainly worth considering if on contract & want an Android or WP OS device but for the rest of us self repair is considerably cheaper & only way to use multi OS's or WM ...

Wizard bodies - interchangable?

I was able to find a phone number to one of HTC's North American offices (here in Houston, no less) and I understand you can order things like stylus' (would it be styli?) and other accessories. I am hoping they sell replacement housings for the Wizard - that is, the plastic external shell.
My question is, are the various shells interchangable? Can I place an MDA body on an 8125? I would very much like to switch back and forth now and then - I like both the devices' form factors a lot!
The keyboard seems configured differently. I am not sure if this is a matter of external housing, or in the touch sensors are actually in different places on the internal membrane.
Thanks in advance - any info is greatly appreciated.
I would like to know that myself. I want to change the housing for my Qtek 9100 to the 8125s housing (little more masculine and protects the camera a little better - mine's all scratched up and the pictures have a slight blur to them now), but I noticed that the housing and things are a bit different in size and positioning. Anyone know?
I can tell you for a fact (unless HTC America lied to me) that they don't part out their systems and sell complete replacement housings.
Which sucks.
Different models
(This is as I recall, please correct me if I'm inaccurate.)
The Wizard T-mobile uses for their US MDA is the Model 200. Cingular uses the Model 100. Cases and bezels are definitely not interchangable, due to different button shape and position.
Sorry for the bad news.

[Opinion] LCD upgrade?

Just wanted to throw this out there because it's something I've been thinking about...
Seeing how easy it is to take apart the Evo, and seeing the market for HD2 LCD replacements on Ebay and other web shops, I don't think it's too farfetched that perhaps we might eventually see an Evo LCD upgrade? Some worthy improvements:
1. AMOLED (I know this is an arguable point)
2. Pixel density
3. Touch screen digitizer response
4. Improved power consumption
I personally would pay $100 for an LCD+glass drop-in replacement unit that I could install myself to make my Evo even more pimp. I don't think this is an unreasonable idea. Thoughts?

Broken Touch

I broke my 5th Touch, it's the lcd this time. This time I don't have the insurance. It maybe time to move on since Android 2.2 on the Touch is just a little too slow for me. I see Eris's occasionally pop up for <$200 but the it appears to be not much faster then an over clocked Touch. Samsung Moments pop up for the same price but I don't think I want keyboard anymore. They do have a 800 mhz processor and a nice screen. For the most part the Moment isn't that stellar of device but I am curious about how the hacked roms run on it. Any input on these two phones would be appreciated.
If I decide to keep the Touch, I saw I can pick up a LCD on ebay for $44 (includes shipping from HK). Anyone one know of better deal? More importantly, is there a better LCD that can be installed on the Touch?
Just an FYI, I did end up buying a new LCD. It was $27.65 and the seller was in Westminster, Ca (LA area). So it was over night shipping, sure beats waiting for stuff from China. First link is the LCD and Second link is his Ebay store. Display looks and works fine. Very easy repair.

Making a tablet out of my HD2 and would like help and tips please!

I miss my girlfriend and am going to be away from her until maybe march of 2012. i am hoping i'll be able to make it back to her by valentines day, but i don't think i can so i'm making her a gift. she was talking about how she wanted to buy a tablet, but someone broke into her car and she had to spend the money on parts to fix her car. i'm just a broke college student with a smartphone i don't use and would like to take that apart and add a few parts then put it inside of a custom case and add an ipad 2 touch screen digitizer. i simply plan on taking my hd2 apart and extending the receiver and speakers and making a few minor adjustments. i then plan on adding larger speakers and converting the software in the hd2 into android and adjusting the resolution size to fit the ipad. i also have a few questions about increasing the memory size with multiple micro sd cards. i really want help from you guys on this please. give me all the info i need! i'm just getting info this month and building it next month, and thank you all in advance for your help.
Post pic's when you're done)
thank you i will. i'm currently just doing the research because i'm not too sure how to connect the digitizer to the HD2 but i am trying to find out how and if i would need any special parts.
As for the UI, this is brilliant and there's a tutorial on how to do this if you search the uploader's channel.
Unfortunately, I have no hardware-related experience at all, being only 14 And as stated, please post pics when done
just here to update you guys on my current progress. i've been having trouble figuring out how to connect the lcd display and digitizer to the HD2 so i'm current THINKING about the possibility of removing the small cell phone connections to the lcd display and digitizer and just soldering normal ones on so they can connect properly but then i wonder if the power output would also need to be switched out? i've also been THINKING about just removing all parts from cellphone motherboard that i need and mounting them onto a standard sized motherboard so i can easily and properly mount any adjustments that i make, but this is the first time i'd be doing any of this or anything like this. i do have an extra smartphone that i can try this out with first and let you know the results. i'll post pictures and videos when i finally start building this thing. again, i am gathering all the information i can for this month and i'll start building towards the end of december or beginning of january. sorry to take so long to do this all but i have to save up and research is always a good way not waste money. i appreciate all tips and i think i'll be using the software in that youtube video that was posted above. it looks absolutely amazing, plus i'll be increasing the memory size for this along with an attempt at upgrading the original parts if possible while still going the cheapest route possible.
I wish you the best of luck!
thanks man. i've figured out that either it would be incredibly difficult to do it with the ipad screen but, the motorola xoom or blackberry playbook screens are more compatible. the xoom screen in particular looks very promising because of its small connection and i'm currently trying to figure out if i'll need a more powerful power supply or not. i think that i will so i'm also weighing my options to see if i can just can a broken tablet or two from craigs list for free or if i'll need to buy one and if i do which one should i look for. any and all help i really do appreciate from you guys and when i start building i'll post pictures and videos.
Dude u r taking a nearly impossible task. U cant fit a big screen to the mother board. Coz an lcd consists of not only a pannel, it have a display ram embedded in it, for that u need correct pin outs and drivers in ur mother board which are made 100 percent for the default display only. U can switch display in smaller phones like old nokia 1110 , etc, in that case 2... the displays are not 100 % compatible. Also u have drivers and circuits in the mother board even 2 Control the led backlight. And are done with proper voltage output control. So better u dont crap up ur phone. If she is in such a need, give the phone 2 her. And buy a new 1 for yourself. Its not simple as u change ur speakers. If you are so advanced, i may help u with these tips.
U have to find a display with 100 similar specifications..
U have to modify ur display driver and backlight driver.
U have 2 make changes in circuits in motherboard.
If u success in all, u r done.
Better buy her a cheep netbook/ tablet...

I just want to point out that at the end of all this, you may have spent enough on parts to just get a cheaper tablet, like an HP Touchpad or something.
Also, it's extremely difficult to fit a lcd/digitizer from a device onto another device because of several issues:
1. difference in physical connector shape / size
2. difference in connector pinouts (pin1 may be 5V on 1 screen, but may be GND on another)
3. difference in voltage/amp requirements for screens (not sure on this one, but I'd say a bigger screen uses more power, but the circuitry of the HD2 may not provide it)
Search e bay. U can get several tabs at lo cost.

Ebay LCD Quality

Hi, i broke my htc hd2 display and i buy a new one in ebay. They have same image quality of the original htc display? Some one know that?
Thanks
Problem with eBay is what apears to be same parts are actually very different in qaulity & functionality so be very careful.
Have used seller linked HERE below twice with no issues & LCD was equal to original in terms of colour, brightness & viewing angles ...

Thanks, but i only need screen. And the prices are a bit high. I bought this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_1668wt_1185 , i ask manufactor for what quality and he only say its a OEM, i dont know if quality is similar or too bad... i will go wait and see.
I bought the combo and the LCD screen was great! Even tho the original screen was brighter, you barely can tell. I know you're not buying the combo but if you do, there's a chance (happen to me this week) you might need to realign the LCD if it's off.

problem with eBay is you never really know if you will be happy with received product quality.
Your link is for the solder type, personally I like full unit upgrade to the 300type with socket connector ...
$22 is a nice price if works good ...
99% of eBay sellers list items genuine or oem, problem is 90+% are lying ... & amazingly crimeBay turns a blind eye to false advertising & misuse of branding !

As you said: if 90% are fakes and would be theoretically banned/forbidden, make some simple calculation and figure out what money loss ebay would encounter.
I do realise the loss of profit eBay would take but if they want to keep going without legal problems arising they really need to introduce some action to back up the written policies they make ... the amount of fake junk being sold & imported/smuggled across borders is rediculous & damaging to the economy & enviroment. Hopefully one day soon visiting an eBay link will lead to a FBI notice :-D ...
