Once you've unlocked the Legend download and run the HTC Supertool V3 from your machine, select option 1 then option 3 and you'll be permanently rooted, then you can install rom manager and deploy whatever rom you want.

So, if I vaguely recall correctly,...
This basically means we won't need the gold-card trick anymore.
I use my Legend for app testing, both CM7 and Blayo ROM as a proxy for stock. I avoid real stock ROMs because they tend to be a pain to re-root etc.
So perhaps I can try real stock ROMs and be able to switch back that much easier...

Hi
I have a legend running cm7 with S-on, how can i get S-off now?
Thx

Looks to me like it's more trouble than it's worth at this time anyway.

Thanks. I've done the HTCDev part, I'll do Supertool and custom rom at weekend. I can use clockworkmod from market to install a rom or do I have to use a Legend specific version ?

This is to get s-off? I'm on 1.01 Hboot. Using CM 7.1 stable
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

nope... just the unlock bootloader... but you can use most of the S-OFF function.
with this you can flash your recovery part of your phone and also have system writes.

Can i install/change system fonts ?

Well, we don't know that as of yet (that's still a big mistery to us) but I can assure you that one who would find that out would most certainly be elected as president of the Internetz.

Have done HTC dev part and now with hboot 1.02. So next step should be to use super tool?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App

Yes, option 1 and 3, gets you root.

I tried the steps mentioned in wiki using super htc tool 3 and then using ROM manager. I was happy that it's almost done but got stuck with red triangle and exclamatory Mark when tried flashing cm7. What next ?!

[Q] Is this right?

from what I understand there's 3 part to the system:
the recovery - the root bit
the rom - the OS
the kernel - the core? between OS and hardware? seem like over clock is in this bit
is this right?
and so when we root the phone we only replace the recovery bit? or anything more?
And the RUU will restore those 3 parts back to default which will (in action) unroot the phone?
This is just to check my understanding before I root my phone really
It's ashamed that we don't have a detailed guide around here...
Yep, you've got it pretty much right.

Thanks

Just make sure not to flash the official RUU .exe, since there is no root for it yet. Install unrevoked and then flash like CyanogenMod 6. =)
those on http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/ are the 'official' RUU right?

Yes! If you want to use those, let it go through Android Kitchen first (removes the RUU "non-root" recovery image), but you dont need to know that stuff.

Root hboot 1.01.0001

Hi,
Is there a way of rooting a wildfire with hboot 1.01.0001?
Downgrate... goldcard... any method!
No
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Short Answer is NO , s0rry to be the bearer of bad news , lolz gonna have to wait till someone figures it out , thats why i never flash an RUU or OTA upgrade unless i KNOW what its goin to do
this is soo funny, people wait to get official froyo, then they want to root. instead they could have rooted before and get a custom froyo rom anyway.
And there were many warnings not to update to the OTA or RUU unless a newer method came out.
Bad luck guys

Hi,
I have the same update
H BOOT-1.01.0001
NOV.17.2010
I manage to install usb driver via Speedy0339
ONLY THAT WAY I MANAGE TO INSTALL H BOOT USB driver!!!
Then I run UNREVOED3
When I run UNREVOED3 process starts:
1. installs unrevoed 3 and reboot phone,
2. Then he starts rooting a.......and then :::::::::::::

Root with Unrevoked
Unrevoked as we speak are trying to root the new Froyo update for the wildfire.
as the change log says.
v3.31:
Backed ClockworkMod down to 2.x series on EVO 4G; now 2.6.0.1.
Still has new kernel. Still has WiMAX key backup. Now supports amend scripting again.
ROM authors: fix your ROMs! Support will go away again in 3.x.x.x: Koush has a good thread explaining the reason why.
Improved compatibility with Android 2.1 (fixes “am reported error starting service”).
Increased root timing window (fixes “failed to get root” on supported devices).
v3.3:
Fix for latest EVO 4G OTA (3.70.651.1) and EVO 4Gs with new versions of HBOOT (2.02 and 2.10).
Switched exploits for all platforms; hopefully more reliable than rageagainstthecage
Updated ClockworkMod, with plenty of new features:
3.0.0.2 for EVO 4G, which has a new kernel (for better WiMAX safety), and supports WiMAX key backup
2.5.1.2 for Incredible, which supports SLCD
No update for Wildfire yet; sorry. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Only Snow Leopard is supported in the OS X build.
No update for Wildfire yet; sorry
maybe in the next update they seam to update pretty quick its just a waiting game now.

I just recently bought my Wildfire, Never thought of rooting it till i found HBoot by mistake was just messing around i am also on HBoot-1.01.0001 like its said so many times on here root can't be done, i was messing with that z4root app on it and on temp it doesn't error out only on perm it does. So does this mean the temp root works ?
If so is there anyway you could flash with a temp root please bare with me i am a Linux person and the Andriod OS is Linux in a sense but Andriod is new to me and as such this might sound noobish.

Why isn't rooting and custom ROMs as easy as the standard Desire!?

I've done a fair few flashes with my Desire and always found it quite easy to follow and do, but I am so, so, so confused about how to go about attacking the HTC Desire.
Essentially, I want to root it and install a custom ROM (maybe change a radio, that's it). However, there is no set of instructions in any one thread, it's all over the place.
So far, i've managed to permroot my brothers phone using Visionary. Now, the next step is getting Clockwork Recovery. However, there seems to be two version 2.x (installed by ROM manager) and version 3.x. Apparently the former doesn't work for CM7... but I cannot find how to actually get Clockwork 3.x installed (easily...).
What are the most popular DesireHD ROMs and do they all require Clockwork 3.x? Also, what is S-Off... and do I need it!?
Because standard Desire does not have nearly as tight security as DHD has. You need S-OFF to get clockworkmod, and if you want to flash CWM 3.x, you need ENG S-OFF. Only gingerbread roms need CWM 3.x.
S-OFF: Phone security off, internal memory becomes read/write, you can flash anything you want, no version checks etc.

Hmm... OK, I mean this is for my brother who is in no way technically inclined Perhaps we'll just leave it rooted for now and see if an automated tool appears for the Desire HD in the future

I suppose so. So basically, the steps are:
Root phone - Done
S-Off/Eng S-Off
Install Clockwork Mod
Install ROM
The bit I find trouble with is how to do the clockwork mod bit. It seems like CM is the best DHD ROM, but that requires Clockwork Recovery 3.whatever and to get that installed you have to go through a ton of SDK stuff. Is there an easy way to get it installed?

Simple answer, no.
Please try following the advice you are being given and search the development forum, if your not willing/able to devote the time to reading up on S-OFF and installing CM7 please leave well alone and save us all a little time
To be honest I think that dhd is quite easy to root. You have one click tool in stickies so really a monkey could do it.
I'm attempting to root my girlfriends galaxy s and it's really complicated. Download this download that check if you have 3button startup, get Odin and so on....
Desire HD is fun to root...

One Click-tool? For the latest update you have to downgrade, that looks not so easy?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yeah, downgrading makes it a bit harder, true. But after downgrading it is a breeze.
Wating for a new tool or updated visionary?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Visionary will not do it, but I might make a tool to handle all those downgrade commands. I am busy now, however, so you should not wait for it.

I wouldn't hold your breathe, whilst there is a simple-ish downgrade route the chances of anyone going to the great effort of needlessly finding and exploiting a new security flaw are remote. Anyone desperate for root will probably take the downgrade route and anyone unable to grasp the steps involved would probably be better served by a stock rom
I'm looking forward for an automatic tool to downgrade...Jkoljo

Tech support, without root access you are unlikely to do anything terminal to your DHD software wise, so that should limit your tech support to hardware issues. With root access ham fisted people are returning phones with user inflicted software problems

Can I root?{FROYO WITH 0.80HBOOT}

Hey,
I have a Wildfire 2.2 with 0.80.0002 HBOOT. Can i root it?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Update. I installed the drivers. Tried rooting with 3.14 and the new one. But they fail. The new one says " root failed. maybe your firmware is too new?" and 3.14 just says " root failed".
What could be wrong?
Maybe its because im on froyo? but my hboot is 0.80.0002 so i should get a root. Any suggestions? Maybe i should downgrade to 2.1. I would have an old firmware with an old hboot

Dayum. I cant install adb drivers. windows 7 ultimate x64. ive downloaded some vista drivers then it works. maybe i cant root because of vista drivers?
btw. when i install vista drivers and plug-in my widlfire it says MY HTC in the device manager.
Dude... I'm also using an x64 win7... firstly...use winrar to unpack the reflash package... extract it to someplace u can remember... jus install the drivers according to the instructions given in the 'hboot.html' file in the reflash folder.. its pretty easy... I always used to root my phone using this computer only ... never had a single problem... alternatively u could install HTC sync...( it will install the drivers ) and then remove it (only the application.. not the drivers).. and then try to root...
Hope I helped...

Then how is your HBOOT still at 0.80? Please confirm the same. As far as I am aware, nowhere on the earth (Except the old Chinese release), did the official Froyo release not update the HBOOT to 1.0x
Also, in such cases, apps like Super one click root can only give temporary / shell root, which is pointless really, as it does not help achieve perm root.
What all do you exactly see on your HBOOT Screen? (Power down your phone. Press Power + Vol Down simultaneously, and let me know what it shows)

Its amazing how you have the old HBOOT after getting official 2.2.1
Anyway, if the method I posted doesnt work, cant help you anymore. Sorry. Only one more idea I get is to use an old version of Unrevoked, which you state you have already tried.
Pic
Heres the pic :3 taken with my moms desire
You should try downgrading, or manually pushing the recovery (follow link that 3xeno posted above). Rooting really shouldn't be this hard, lol. No version of Unrevoked will work with 2.2 AFAIK for root, as I've heard people flash a 2.1 RUU and then root. That's another option - flash a 2.1 RUU (NOT 2.2) and then unrevoked. its 99% guaranteed to work the first time, and i guess 99.999% guaranteed to work within 3 tries. (0.001 % just in case, lol )
edit: running a 2.1 RUU is probably the easiest way... you should try it.
Ok. I pushed recovery in the hboot menu. thing is . i have clockworkd mod iLol'ed.I forgot Okay so ill try to flash now... Wait for it... wait for it... well install is complete.
I remember now. When i tried to root it a month ago it installed the recovery but it did not root my phone. Now when its rooted(i think) it works!!! LOL

For those saying you have to downgrade you have no idea what you are talking about. Especially when you resort to name calling. The Advanced Ace Hack Kit does not require ROM downgrading. It only downgrades radio and kernal. It is the only currently supported method available. Others have been discontinued or do not work anymore.
