Cornerstone Multitasking - Xoom General

Hey all,
Just saw this on my general browsing:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ne-and-bring-true-tablet-multitasking-to-cm9/
Looks pretty good. May try flash the ROM when I get home. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts? Or care to share your experiences.

PS: I'm not affiliated with the project at all, so don't ask me anything about it

It was very briefly included in EOS ICS wingray nightly build #67, but was too unstable so it was taken out again until it can be worked on some more. I kept a nandroid in case I want to play with it again. You could flash build #67 if you'd like to get a feel for what it could do when it plays nice.

cheers. sounds good. Im currently on eos 1.0.0

Cornerstone Update
Appears that Cornerstone has been added back into another build of the EOS nightlies. You can find the roms here:
http://goo-inside.me/devs/teameos/roms/cornerstone/nightlies
This is a separate build of the nightlies and it looks like they only added cornerstone back in after Cornerstone updated their source code to address some major issues that existed in the original release.
Try it out and see if you like it.
Personal Plug in: Please be respectful to app developers when playing with roms, its hard enough to build apps for all the versions of Android that exist today. Instead of posting bad reviews on the market about an incompatible app, contact the developer directly and see if they can help you.

Subforum or thread to discuss CM nightlies?

Is there an xda thread that discusses CM releases nightlies & stable for the Nook color )Encore)? The forum on CM is not very active & I don't find many postings that say things like "Ok, I tried CM7 nightly #95 & I have encountered these problems." It would even be nice to have a running poll that rates the functionality of new releases. That way, those who don't have the time to deal with new bugs can judge whether or not to move to a new CM release & fix a bug they may have. I am trying to use my NC in a productive way, but I would like a few issues fixed, but need some of the "tools" to still work. Maybe the solution in my case is to install only stable releases, but the last stable was on 5/8 & I got impatient & installed some nightlies.

A big issue is that the developers officially consider the nightlies to be a "use at your own risk" type situation. Since CM7 is a pure community project, the developers work on whatever bugs effect them directly or ones that are so egregious that they effect everyone (like SOD). There is no process for the community to decide which bugs gets fixed because that comes close to breaking the first rule of cyanogenmod.

That is exactly what the answer is from developers that on this forum- stick to the stable releases if you want stable. Of course then the issue is that you miss out on some great improvements for a while (like working sleep), so in the end you have to chose:
A. A stable, non-fully functioning version.
B. A nonstable, functional-hopefully nightly.
For many of us used to open source development, this dichotomy between broken and stale is the norm.
If you are having real issues it is best to post them in the CM7 developers thread where they will be read, and hope that a kind developer chooses to work on that issue after you post it!

As a Debian Sid user, I would be bored if it were any other way.
The Nook has the great perk of booting off an sd card by default, which really diminished my reasons for not staying on top of the nightlies. (I grab one every few days instead of daily but that is more to conserve their bandwidth than a fear of what I will get.)

[REF]Galaxy SII ICS CM9 Progression Updates Here

Right thread is for updates and news in regarding how the progress of the port is coming along for the ICS to our Galaxy SII. Updates will be coming from directly from teamhacksung. I will be staying intouch with Codeworkx and will be providing the latest feedback he gives me to share on the thread with the rest of the community here.

Bluetooth
HWComposer (strange things are going on)
What’s not working?

More Updates-12.12.11
Quote from the man himself:
Now with much more IceCream on my Sandwich!
Let me have a look at my visionarys orb.
I can see…
- Kernel 3.0.9
- New RIL (doesn’t work with old modem firmwares)
- TouchWiz (i still hate it, doesn’t feel good, stock aosp ics feels much better)
- Opencore is finally gone
- looks cleaner under the hood
- still old alsa, not the new tinyalsa
- users won’t be impressed
Now let me watch on my device…
- aosp framework
- graphics seems to work good
- it has sound, but cannot test mic beacuse of ril problems
- ril isn’t working very good, crashing all the time. might need to add a new samsung ril class like in the past
- gps seems to work
- hwcomposer is running
- camera is running
- bluetooth works
- wifi works
- sensors aren’t working yet, but should be no problem
- usb sharing works
Ok, too much said already.
Having Kernel sources would make it much easier, but that’s probably far away.
Stay tuned! Maybe we get ril fixed in a few days then we got something really amazing and clean for you.
More Updates 12/12/2011:
Today we could spend some more time to fiddle with this stuff.
RIL is very unstable, even on the leak.
It’s not usable. Probably have to wait for a newer leak. :-(
My o2 card doesn’t work, my vodafone card works.
Might be NITZ related.
Some little bugs here and there like unamplifed haptic feedback, broken sdcards and some other little things.
Sound is working, Mic is working , Camera is working, Wifi is working, Bluetooth is working, HWComposer, TVOutService is up…
To fix every little bug we need kernel sources for sure. So probably in january 2012.
If we can get RIL stable, we might release a aosp/cm9 build for you.
But don’t point at us if we don’t.

To teamhacksung for working their magic to bring CM9 to us.
Codeworkx for his help in keeping this thread up to date.
And to Stylez, Conantroutman here for helping me out with previous thread and this one now.
Big thanks for the efforts of the AOSP team as well who as well started this whole project and now it is being carried on by TeamHacksung. Netchip, Yjwong, Chadouming, Biohazard and Paradoxxx deserve a mention as well because they to put a lot of effort in the project just a shame they could not carry on..So please give them thanks as well for their efforts.
Please read carefully here to:
If you don't stop annoying devs, they'll leave XDA forever. If this happens you'll never get this ICS Port onto your Phone. You have to wait for Samsung to release something which might be usable in about some Months. Start using your brains, read threads fully and understand it before you're going to add a post. And they are doing their best to get as fast as they can a stable build out to us. So we in return we can be patient and wait. All updates will be above and Codeworkx and i will bring the latest in the sticky here. Please watch here also
Latest so far from Codeworkx and the team
Since our try’s to get the microphone working on ICS using the samsung audio HAL wen’t bad, we decided to write a ICS compatible HAL from scratch. (stealing some code from the galaxy nexus)
Actually we’re able to control all ~134 mixer controls from within our HAL. We’re able to open the PCM’s and we’re able to read/write to it. The hardware dependant part is also working (e.g. telling the audio hw that we’re doing a call).
But all this doesn’t make sound working. We don’t know which mixers we have to set on which cases to get a little bit of sound, for example, out of the speaker.
The next few days will probably be wasted on figuring out which controls we have to touch at the right time.
The task is like jumping over a 100 miles height wall, because we’ve no documentation for the hardware and nobody of us knows what we’re doing. xD
But hey we’ve a damn big bulldozer. ;-)
Hope we’ve enough fuel for it to break the wall down.

14/12/2011 New ICS leak by SamMobile:
From what you can see not really much to play with and not much to get excited about. I personally was going to download and see what it feels like but it just reminds me of the alpha builds...For me it is a miss. Views from people who have downloaded it though please post and let me know what you thought of this
[5/12/2011]More Updates.
New state -> waiting
Opensource Audio HAL:
Without any documentation or hints it’s a try & error task for some weeks.
Using Audio Blobs:
Not really possible because big S broke the ABI.
Did a lot of hacking on it, but it’s hopeless.
USB Gadget:
Big S touched the original Google USB Gadget code and made it a mess. It’s hooked up to touchscreen, charger, battery, mhl and probably some more stuff.
Not possible to implement the new USB Gadget required for USB Sharing without spending lot of time on it to clean up this disaster.
Graphics:
Nebkat and xplodwild fixed the graphics corruption on rotation and crt-off effects.
New state -> waiting for new kernel sources and a ICS leak.
Extended state -> We are very pissed about big S.
If big S is not going to be more cooperative, next Device will be a Google Device.
So far this is the latest updates by the team. It is kinda stop and start and very frustrating from what you can see but the team is trying so fingers crossed. Show support and patience and i am sure our patience will be rewarded

For those who didn’t know yet:
The Guys from SamMobiles got a first ICS leak for the I9100 (with TouchWiz), but it looks like they don’t want to share before their new site gets online.
This means we’ll have the leak probably next week.
We asked them about just getting the blobs we need, but no chance.
They don’t want to share anything.
But hey, it’s just one week more. ;-)

The commentary can stay down in general where as you all know a thread is ongoing. Then this and other posts not related to the thread purpose can be deleted and we can all go through just a few posts to find out the latest on the team progress. A condition which I believe many of us will prefer to allowing this to become an open thread.

No problem. Just wanted to tell you that they have a good reason to wait. Because i think we all want to have leaks in the future and not wait till samsung officially releases their stuff. I'm on my mobile today so i can't link you the corresponding post but i can send you the link to it this evening if you want.
Because i think it sounded not so fair and sammobile also does a lot for us.

I didnt really get what this post means it's kind of murky...
Please Matriak can you explain what this post means!
Will the Codeworkx / CyanogenMod / SamMobile versions have TouchWiz?
Will it become easier for them when SamMobile releases the leaked version?
Did they get rid of those slimy soft keys at the bottom?
Why "users wont be impressed"?
Are sensors a tough problem to fix?
Ril?

No it won't have TW. Codeworkx is talking about the leaked beta Samsung rom. Users won't be impressed because the rom is not done and it's clearly unstable. The problems he is referring to are all in the Samsung rom.
However, Codeworkx can use some parts of this rom the fix things in the AOSP rom they are building.

When Codecworkx said that he should've mentioned why!! Anyway, sammobile posted yesterday that 'this thing is nowhere near finished', so you know what I mean.
One thing I don't understand, if it's a BETA then why so much disappointment? Maybe Alpha would be a proper name! Can't say...

Do not know at the moment what SamMobile leak is as they have not released it just yet. Codeworkx and team have stated as above what they have done so far and what they have working.

[ROM] ICS AOSP Acer a500

Hello everyone,
i want to open this thread because seems that the development in this forum for acer a500 ICS AOSP has been stopped.
I know that lots of people "hate" thor2002ro for not relasing source code in fact this thread is only informative for who, as me, doesn't care about having or not having source but they want to try ICS on tablet.I think that it is the right place because is a custom rom. Then, with the permissions of thor2002ro, i decide to mantain a thread on xda copying what they publish on tegraowners. I take no credit for the rom, im only a messenger for you (if you do not want it, simply dont reply) and i try to update the thread when a new alpha is done:

Welcome to the Internet I guess then? Larger forums will of course bring many more views and opinions, just have to go with the flow.
getting over this annoying spat that doesn't help the community one bit, i just installed the new ROM (v59) and played with it. aside from it being terribly buggy on the cyanogen/trebuchet side (it keeps freezing), it's pretty fast and a bit more intuitive than honeycomb. granted, alpha development is at a point where ICS's main eyecandy options (face detection via camera, integrated data counter and what not) don't work. that's why it's an alpha. the new gapps are nice.. but having a 501 with no data connectivity means i'll be rewiping and installing any other flavour of 3.2.1 tonight.
now, that's not the community's fault, but perhaps working together more instead of bickering at each other would fix me my ICS sooner, dammit. now go make me some ice cream sammiches ..

Ok, sorry but this thread is dangerous now.

[Q] So verry confused.

OK, So I know there are quite a few CM9 builds floating around in the Development section! Which I think is awesome. I'm actually using one right now but i'm not sure if they are different or what? So far i've come up with,
They are all based of Kang's who is a CM9 developer? (Tried searching to see if he had a thread he was supporting and posting on, nothing)
There's alphao18mega's thread which is related to jokersax's thread somehow?
but now alpha18omega states that he isn't supporting it anymore but people are still posting in it?
So should I not visit that thread anymore cause there are no further updates coming?
They are sharing the same Download link page.
So it seems to me that it's the same build just two different developers posting the same build under different threads...?
I'm confused which CM9 thread should i be using/watching it actually know me using this buggy awesomeness of a rom will hear my feedback?
Thanks.
I'm not on CM9 yet so I can't say which is best.. But I can tell you Kang is not a developer, wiki says "Kang - A term used for stealing others intellectual property and claiming it as your own. (ie. When a developer uses another developer's work, and then publishes the end product as their own.)" but stealing is not exactly the right term to use.
Joker is building from source, omega is porting from the photon. I think that jokers is the cleaner one, personally

They (omega and joker) are working together now, so the links have probably been consolidated.
To make it more confusing the cm9 he was porting to the atrix was also mine.

Long story short about atrix cm9. The atrix dev team started working on it after ics dropped. However they didnt fix all the bugs and never released it. Along came someone who built what they had been working on just to show it is actually being worked on.
Now over at the photon forum cm9 was being worked on by cybik, the cm photon dev. However he never got it going. He moved devices and passed it to me near Christmas. On Dec 27 I posted the first cm9 for the photon. Ever since myself and several other have been fixing it up.
Now comes the atrix. You guys had one build from early December and that was it. A couple people started trying out my photon cm9 and really liked it. They pm'd me asking me to make one for the atrix. At this time alpha also made a port of my photon cm9. I made mine shortly after him. I then used the atrix dev teams vendor and device tree to start compiling cm9 for the photon. Because it is source build and not a copy paste rom, alpha decided to help me out. So now you have a partially ported source build. Once I get the atrix source in my buildbot I'll finish porting fixes from my photon build.
Hope that clears some things up.

Phishfi's Nexus 6 ROM Reviews!

Review #4 is up! Check It Out Below!
Important: I would love feedback from the community on issues they've noticed with ROMs that are worth mentioning in my reviews. I'm also switching to Google Forms for the poll, so that I can make changes or update it as new ROMs release! Check it out!
Ladies and Gentlemen!
Nexus 6 ROM Reviews/Comparison
Hello everyone! Welcome to Phishfi's Nexus 6 ROM Reviews!
The idea here is going to be to post videos and text reviews for all of the popular ROMs, based on inputs from you, the Nexus 6 community. I'm going to do my best to post a video a week, and I'll do my best to keep the reviews as unbiased and level-headed as I can. One thing I want to reiterate though is that my reviews will have a good amount of personal opinion, though I will approach them objectively (if there's something that bothers me personally, I'm going to detail it well enough so that people who don't mind that issue will understand why, specifically, it bothers me).
The ultimate goal here is to give folks a good idea of which ROM works best for them, without having to go through the hassle of testing out each one themselves. If you have any suggestions, please post them up here and I will add them to the list. I'm also going to try to crowd-source opinions on apps, so that I can include them in the review, to help give users an idea of how favorable or unfavorable any ROM's features are.
Hopefully, this project will give the developers a good idea of what issues they might not see from the development side of things, while also detailing the differences and preferences of the community. Most importantly, I wanted an avenue through which I could contribute to the Nexus 6 community. As a long-time member of XDA, I've always wanted to do something to help out my fellow Androidphiles. The ultimate goal here is to provide users with the most detail about any Nexus 6 ROM so that they can go through and see all of the individual ROMs in action and make a better decision about which ROM they want to try first!

ROM Developers: If you have any special features or important upcoming releases, please feel free to PM me so I can keep track of them. I don't want to step on any devs' toes by reviewing a ROM that's missing certain features right before they update their ROM. I'm sure there's plenty of unique ROM features in the works right now and I would love to make the reviews for those ROMs/features after they've been made available!
User Requests: If you have a request, please link to the OP of the ROM you're suggesting and also give me a brief description of the ROM's top features. I would like to start with ROMs that differ the most from eachother, so that users (and myself when I do future reviews) have a wider feature-set to see in the reviews. I don't want to end up going through the trouble of completely installing a ROM just to find that it's almost impossibly similar to a ROM I've already reviewed.
Text Reviews: Guys, I'm trying to come up with the best medium to use for posting the text reviews of each ROM. Obviously, the posts themselves aren't the best place to post such large reviews, and I'd prefer to just link to the reviews for each ROM. Any recommended places to do that? g+ doesn't seem like the best place, and apparently I can't write to the XDA Portal (even like a private version of it or anything, unless someone knows a way to do that). Let me know where you'd prefer to see it!

Benchmarks
I will test each ROM using 3 benchmarks.
First, I'll use Vellamo Benchmark. Vellamo will be run from a fresh reboot.
Second, I'll use AnTuTu. This will be run after Vellamo completes, I will force close Vellamo, then run GB.
Third, I'll use my personal practical benchmark. I will force close AnTuTu, then clear all recent apps then:
For my personal benchmark, I'm going to test the ROM by rolling between 6 apps twice. The test will start with no apps open, and I will go home then select the next app after the app successful draws the first intent (the main screen for each app). To make things simple, I'm not going to allow the data connection to affect the benchmark, so I won't wait for things like YouTube recent videos, etc to load. The apps I'll use for this benchmark are (in order):
1) Hangouts
2) Google Chrome Beta
3) Netflix
4) Snapchat (front-facing camera on)
5) YouTube
6) Google Maps
The benchmark will be a measurement of the time it takes to select all 6 apps twice (the first will load the apps into RAM, the select will be to load them from RAM). All benchmarks will be done with the device encrypted.

I've only used rastapop for a day or so, but I really did enjoy it! Hope it gets a good amount of votes. If you're interested in seeing the review sooner, feel free to mention it to other ROM users so they vote on it

Thanks! I only used recently updated ROMs from the stickied ROM Index, I will add that to the poll if it lets me!
Edit: Can't modify a poll without a moderator's help, so I will skip Terminus for now. However, that poll is only a decision-maker for my first review, and I will be attempting to use some other metric for my future reviews (probably a Google Doc-based Poll, so I can have more direct access to the results and modify the poll options, etc). I'll will absolutely keep Terminus in mind! Thanks!

Just got word about Validus, I'll look into it. I want to start with ROMs that differ quite a bit and then start moving toward the ROMs that are similar to previously reviewed ones. Do you have any basic info on validus, as for as what makes it different from other ROMs. Is it AOSP based or CM based, etc?
Every rom is AOSP Validus is a run of the mill mutt like most of the other roms. It has quite a few features. Most of the stock features work as far as i tested. I haven't enabled tethering yet in my n6 build because i don't use it. But i'm sure i will soon. Entirely built with Sabermod and @Imoseyon has granted us permission to use Lean kernel. Different? Yeah some flash and see i'll have a 1/6 build tonight keep an eye out

Make sure to cast your vote in the poll!
I've updated the OP to include a link to Google Doc that should help the community list any issues or features that they think are worth mentioning. As much good information as possible would be awesome, so that I can include community input in the reviews! Thanks for your support so far! We're at 16 votes and so far a lot of people are showing interest in CM12!
Ok
I'm with @simms22. Terminus rom.
