[ROM] ICS AOSP Acer a500 - Acer Iconia A500

Hello everyone,
i want to open this thread because seems that the development in this forum for acer a500 ICS AOSP has been stopped.
I know that lots of people "hate" thor2002ro for not relasing source code in fact this thread is only informative for who, as me, doesn't care about having or not having source but they want to try ICS on tablet.I think that it is the right place because is a custom rom. Then, with the permissions of thor2002ro, i decide to mantain a thread on xda copying what they publish on tegraowners. I take no credit for the rom, im only a messenger for you (if you do not want it, simply dont reply) and i try to update the thread when a new alpha is done:

Im not responsible for damage to your device. Flash at your own risk. Don't ask for support to me because im not the developer

You're not allowed to post links to Thor's ROM's on here until he decides to comply with the GPL. Don't be surprised if your thread gets closed.

now is ok?

Why? now there are no direct link

I've already deleted the link and having a PM chat with OP explaining Thor's situation, i guess there is no need to start another useless flaming/trolling war.

I agree with you, but technically this should be in general since you did not create it yourself. Thank you for this though.
MOD-Please move to general

Might not have a link, but it still is 'condoning warez' in promoting Thor's code.

every time in acer forum is an hell in 1 year on nexus section never happened to me

Welcome to the Internet I guess then? Larger forums will of course bring many more views and opinions, just have to go with the flow.

getting over this annoying spat that doesn't help the community one bit, i just installed the new ROM (v59) and played with it. aside from it being terribly buggy on the cyanogen/trebuchet side (it keeps freezing), it's pretty fast and a bit more intuitive than honeycomb. granted, alpha development is at a point where ICS's main eyecandy options (face detection via camera, integrated data counter and what not) don't work. that's why it's an alpha. the new gapps are nice.. but having a 501 with no data connectivity means i'll be rewiping and installing any other flavour of 3.2.1 tonight.
now, that's not the community's fault, but perhaps working together more instead of bickering at each other would fix me my ICS sooner, dammit. now go make me some ice cream sammiches ..

Right thread is for updates and news in regarding how the progress of the port is coming along for the ICS to our Galaxy SII. Updates will be coming from directly from teamhacksung. What's working
Display
Touchscreen
RIL
Audio
Wifi
GPS
Sensors (needs tweaking)
SD Cards
Bluetooth
HWComposer (strange things are going on)
What’s not working?
Microphone on Phone Calls (trying to write a HAL from scratch)
Camera
Video Recording
Video Codecs
Device Encryption
USB Sharing (kernel update needed)
More Updates-12.12.11
Quote from the man himself:
Now with much more IceCream on my Sandwich!
Let me have a look at my visionarys orb.
I can see…
- Kernel 3.0.9
- New RIL (doesn’t work with old modem firmwares)
- TouchWiz (i still hate it, doesn’t feel good, stock aosp ics feels much better)
- Opencore is finally gone
- looks cleaner under the hood
- still old alsa, not the new tinyalsa
- users won’t be impressed
Now let me watch on my device…
- aosp framework
- graphics seems to work good
- it has sound, but cannot test mic beacuse of ril problems
- ril isn’t working very good, crashing all the time. might need to add a new samsung ril class like in the past
- gps seems to work
- hwcomposer is running
- camera is running
- bluetooth works
- wifi works
- sensors aren’t working yet, but should be no problem
- usb sharing works
Ok, too much said already.
Having Kernel sources would make it much easier, but that’s probably far away.
Stay tuned! Maybe we get ril fixed in a few days then we got something really amazing and clean for you.
More Updates 12/12/2011:
Today we could spend some more time to fiddle with this stuff.
RIL is very unstable, even on the leak.
It’s not usable. Probably have to wait for a newer leak. :-(
My o2 card doesn’t work, my vodafone card works.
Might be NITZ related.
Some little bugs here and there like unamplifed haptic feedback, broken sdcards and some other little things.
Sound is working, Mic is working , Camera is working, Wifi is working, Bluetooth is working, HWComposer, TVOutService is up…
To fix every little bug we need kernel sources for sure. So probably in january 2012.
If we can get RIL stable, we might release a aosp/cm9 build for you.
But don’t point at us if we don’t.

To teamhacksung for working their magic to bring CM9 to us.
Codeworkx for his help in keeping this thread up to date.
And to Stylez, Conantroutman here for helping me out with previous thread and this one now.
Big thanks for the efforts of the AOSP team as well who as well started this whole project and now it is being carried on by TeamHacksung. Netchip, Yjwong, Chadouming, Biohazard and Paradoxxx deserve a mention as well because they to put a lot of effort in the project just a shame they could not carry on..So please give them thanks as well for their efforts.
Please read carefully here to:
If you don't stop annoying devs, they'll leave XDA forever. If this happens you'll never get this ICS Port onto your Phone. You have to wait for Samsung to release something which might be usable in about some Months. Start using your brains, read threads fully and understand it before you're going to add a post. And they are doing their best to get as fast as they can a stable build out to us. So we in return we can be patient and wait. All updates will be above and Codeworkx and i will bring the latest in the sticky here. Please watch here also
Latest so far from Codeworkx and the team
Since our try’s to get the microphone working on ICS using the samsung audio HAL wen’t bad, we decided to write a ICS compatible HAL from scratch. (stealing some code from the galaxy nexus)
Actually we’re able to control all ~134 mixer controls from within our HAL. We’re able to open the PCM’s and we’re able to read/write to it. The hardware dependant part is also working (e.g. telling the audio hw that we’re doing a call).
But all this doesn’t make sound working. We don’t know which mixers we have to set on which cases to get a little bit of sound, for example, out of the speaker.
The next few days will probably be wasted on figuring out which controls we have to touch at the right time.
The task is like jumping over a 100 miles height wall, because we’ve no documentation for the hardware and nobody of us knows what we’re doing. xD
But hey we’ve a damn big bulldozer. ;-)
Hope we’ve enough fuel for it to break the wall down.

14/12/2011 New ICS leak by SamMobile:
From what you can see not really much to play with and not much to get excited about. I personally was going to download and see what it feels like but it just reminds me of the alpha builds...For me it is a miss. Views from people who have downloaded it though please post and let me know what you thought of this
[5/12/2011]More Updates.
New state -> waiting
Opensource Audio HAL:
Without any documentation or hints it’s a try & error task for some weeks.
Using Audio Blobs:
Not really possible because big S broke the ABI.
Did a lot of hacking on it, but it’s hopeless.
USB Gadget:
Big S touched the original Google USB Gadget code and made it a mess. It’s hooked up to touchscreen, charger, battery, mhl and probably some more stuff.
Not possible to implement the new USB Gadget required for USB Sharing without spending lot of time on it to clean up this disaster.
Graphics:
Nebkat and xplodwild fixed the graphics corruption on rotation and crt-off effects.
New state -> waiting for new kernel sources and a ICS leak.
Extended state -> We are very pissed about big S.
If big S is not going to be more cooperative, next Device will be a Google Device.
So far this is the latest updates by the team. It is kinda stop and start and very frustrating from what you can see but the team is trying so fingers crossed. Show support and patience and i am sure our patience will be rewarded

For those who didn’t know yet:
The Guys from SamMobiles got a first ICS leak for the I9100 (with TouchWiz), but it looks like they don’t want to share before their new site gets online.
This means we’ll have the leak probably next week.
We asked them about just getting the blobs we need, but no chance.
They don’t want to share anything.
But hey, it’s just one week more. ;-)

I'm going to go ahead and report this to admin. The purpose of this thread is the ICS team updates alone and its reason for being stickied. The commentary can stay down in general where as you all know a thread is ongoing. Then this and other posts not related to the thread purpose can be deleted and we can all go through just a few posts to find out the latest on the team progress. A condition which I believe many of us will prefer to allowing this to become an open thread.

No problem. Just wanted to tell you that they have a good reason to wait. Because i think we all want to have leaks in the future and not wait till samsung officially releases their stuff. I'm on my mobile today so i can't link you the corresponding post but i can send you the link to it this evening if you want.
Because i think it sounded not so fair and sammobile also does a lot for us.

I didnt really get what this post means it's kind of murky...
Please Matriak can you explain what this post means!
Will the Codeworkx / CyanogenMod / SamMobile versions have TouchWiz?
Will it become easier for them when SamMobile releases the leaked version?
Did they get rid of those slimy soft keys at the bottom?
Why "users wont be impressed"?
Are sensors a tough problem to fix?
Ril?

No it won't have TW. Codeworkx is talking about the leaked beta Samsung rom. Users won't be impressed because the rom is not done and it's clearly unstable. The problems he is referring to are all in the Samsung rom.
However, Codeworkx can use some parts of this rom the fix things in the AOSP rom they are building.

When Codecworkx said that he should've mentioned why!! Anyway, sammobile posted yesterday that 'this thing is nowhere near finished', so you know what I mean.
One thing I don't understand, if it's a BETA then why so much disappointment? Maybe Alpha would be a proper name! Can't say...

Do not know at the moment what SamMobile leak is as they have not released it just yet. Codeworkx and team have stated as above what they have done so far and what they have working.
For better explanations visit his blog. As it would be better explained there. I post as i see and try and answer as simple as i can. But for me it is pretty clear what is stated above so hopefully this is helpful enough..
Soft keys will be gone..Do not forget that we are using a different product than the galaxy nexus

Recommended Development Topic Outline

Ladies and gentle men,
Here's the example topic outline I've been promising for about a week now. I have wanted to create this for a while now, as many of the [ROM] and [Patch] topics are--how shall I phrase this?--messy. I'm putting this up as a reference guide, and it will be a work in progress. Please feel free to borrow the parts you like (including the whole thing!), criticize the parts you don't like, suggest and request improvements, and flame the trolls who will inevitably come, should this see much conversation.
I don't mean this as an insult to any of you developers, chefs, or script kiddies, I just think some of you could use some help in the UX/UI department, and I've got some time on my hands. I think your users and fans will thank both of us for it, as my intention is to improve the volume of information provided, and also make it much more readable.

Introduction
This is where I tell you how awesome my new ROM is: AmericanJedi's SuPeR-MEGA-sweet-ICS-Candy totally rocks! It has all the features you want, and none of the crap you don't. It's built on a foundation of win, with a bit of profit and unicorns thrown in to guarantee you'll like it! I know you've never downloaded a ROM from me before (because I didn't make one before!!!), but this paragraph here is where I'm doing my damnedest to convince you to try it.
Features
Awesome Sauce
Unicorn blood
Baby tears (but only the happy ones)
Automagicalness
mkasick's Keyboard Tweak -- (Oh **** son, now you know it's good!)
Existing Issues
Umm, did you not read the Features list?
Oh yeah, it's only built on ICS. I'm still hacking Google's servers to get Jellybean.
Fixed Issues
Now with ICS added!
"Auto" added to Magicalness
Baby tears sync'd with CyanogenMod repository
E911 works better than EpicMTD CM7 -- Dials straight to the State Police, no messing around with local yokels!
Removed CIQ from GPS firmware

DISCLAIMER
Some of my methods are... questionable. If you think I can be held responsible for any adverse effects this ROM may have on your phone, you are sadly mistaken! Please be intelligent enough to learn the ins and outs of the techniques described below and use some critical thinking skills before blindly jumping in head first. You have been warned!
Installation
-- Full Wipe Method (Nothing is saved from current ROM or user data!)
Do a Nandroid backup from Recovery and/or back up your apps and settings!
Do a full memory wipe (Cache, Dalvik, and /data partition) in Recovery
Smash your screen with a hammer (WARNING: it's made of Gorilla Glass, so you'll need to hit it hard! Wear safety glasses.)
Be sure you have a full charge before flashing! Use a modded charging cable (simple way: cut the end off) and connect directly to a 220v outlet
USB is waaay too slow, solder a SATA connector directly to the motherboard
-- Upgrade Method (Your data and settings should remain intact.)
Do a Nandroid backup and/or back up your apps and settings!
Do a partial memory wipe (Cache and Dalvik) in Recovery
Drop your phone repeatedly, increasing the height by two feet on each successive drop until your screen has the desired number of cracks
I can't think of anything funny for this step
Breakdance.
-- Caveats (Stuff I think you should know, but doesn't fit elsewhere.)
Nothing comes to mind!
I'm that damn good.

Thanks to pawitp for creating the topic that was the inspiration for this example outline, and for allowing me to copy from him: [ROM][ICS][ITL41D] teamhacksung's ICS Port for Galaxy S (BUILD 9). His well-written ROM post is what mine is based on.
Thanks to codest3r for his suggestions.
P.S. I may have gotten carried away with the whole "be funny so they'll like me!" routine. If you don't like fun and would prefer this whole thing be as serious as Stephen Hawking at a track meet (good analogy, right?) then post below and let everyone know how boring your life is. Wait, that whole postscript came out wrong. Let me start over...
[Code] Copy/Pasteable
Sorry for the PHP formatting tags, but CODE tags didn't preserve the code structure at all--they were parsing the BB code! It kind of makes sense, and kind of blows my mind. I thought CODE tags were supposed to A) use a fixed-width font, and B) display the code written as unicode, not parse the formatting! Eh, I found a workaround. And it's in pretty Christmas colors! But Holy Hell, was it a pain to restructure to look like my original code for the second post! Just try writing something that uses BB code (specifically lists), then try to post that and have it look the way you typed it for the sake of readability. I dare ya!
ExampleTopicOutline.txt straight from my Dropbox. (FYI: This will be updated more frequently than the PHP-formatted code below because it's a simple copy/paste, whereas wrangling the code to appear as you see it below makes me want to martyr myself.)

[SIZE="4"][B]Features[/B][/SIZE][LIST]
[*]Awesome Sauce
[*]Unicorn blood
[*]Baby tears (but only the happy ones)
[*]Automagicalness
[*]mkasick's Keyboard Tweak -- (Oh [I]****[/I] son, now you know it's good!
[/LIST]
[SIZE="4"][B]Existing Issues[/B][/SIZE][LIST]
[*]Umm, did you not read the Features list?
[*]Oh yeah, it's only built on ICS. I'm still hacking Google's servers to get Jellybean.
[/LIST]
[SIZE="4"][B]Fixed Issues[/B][/SIZE][LIST]
[*]Now with ICS added!
[*]"Auto" added to Magicalness
[*]Baby tears sync'd with CyanogenMod repository
[*]E911 works better than EpicMTD CM7 -- Dials straight to the State Police, no messing around with local yokels!
[*]Removed CIQ from GPS firmware

Interesting. So aside from the good humor, as I understand it, you're trying to fork pawtip's CM9 code and also fork work from Deca's CM7 build? (such as 911 working)?
This thread seems fresh from the ice cream sandwich factory.
Almost fell for it.

That's part of the reason for doing this, cut down on questions that should already be answered in the OP.
Thanks for the props guys, I'll continue to work on it. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of adding more color, but color can be distracting and therefore detract from the informative nature of an OP. Did I miss any important sections?
Lastly, let me know if I should add more seriousness. I promise I won't make fun of you for being a boring person! ...Much.
If only every OP was this clean and well organized.
I like it. Install steps and videos from QB both go under Installation? How about a caveats or modem compatibility section? Just thinking out loud.

I'm afraid I don't follow you. I don't understand what you're saying about "install steps," and "QB," but I'll add a Caveats section or sub-section. As to modem compatibility, I believe that's a non-issue, but let me know why you think it's important and I'll seriously consider it. Thanks for the feedback!

I see a lot of posts about what modem to use and where to get it and how to get it on. Maybe my perception. Maybe the modem deltas make it more challenging than usual. In the past I thought certain ROM bases were meant for specific modem.bin's. Maybe not so much anymore?
Install Steps... cause its not always as easy as flashing a ZIP, and even when it is best confirm it in OP cause some require a wipe, some don't, some have other dependencies before determining if a wipe is required. Used to the obligatory "nandroid first" was always there too. Just sayin'... ;-)
QB as in qbking77 and all his howto videos. Doesn't he have a video demo'ing or showing install steps for every ROM ever made on the Epic?

Okay, now I follow you! I'll add the Modem sub-section, though I've never seen a ROM that has any particular modem requirements. In my experience, while the ROM and modem work hand-in-hand, they are separate issues that should be addressed independently. But to each, his own! If anyone doesn't like or need that section they can remove it.
Concerning Installation, I'll add more generic methods.
As to QBking77's how-to videos, that's a good suggestion for the Videos or Installation section.
Good ideas, keep 'em coming!
Would a Mod please sticky this? Surely a clean, well-formatted structure for posting new development projects would be a boon to these forums! If the Mod(s) would like, I will clean up the example to be more professional-looking and remove profanities. I can understand that being a requirement for stickies.
C'mon, surely other people agree this would be useful! If you think any part of it, from the Title to the footnotes, needs changing for this to be taken seriously, please let me know. I'd rather it be less funny and get used, than to be hilarious and fall into obscurity!

Right on bro! I think its handy for folks that run into an issue like this.
Good luck getting this stuck on the forum. I gotta say - the OP's look really good and clean in a web browser (I was using Tapatalk before).

Hmm, your link appears broken when I click it in the XDA app, but when I quoted you for this post it looks fine. Weird...
You saying the OPs look good in a web browser made me realize I hadn't checked them out with the XDA app--holy crap, what a train wreck! Apparently the app doesn't process lists properly (or at all!). I really don't want to change that formatting, but I know a lot of people use the app regularly, so maybe I should.
Or maybe the XDA app should be updated! <hint, hint> (I'm looking at you, XDA admins!)

Assemble Dev Team for an ICS ROM

As our device is dying in support I feel that we need to develop a large development team (10+ people) that will work on ICS for our gtablet. I mean after all our device is capable of running it ( Tegra 250). If you would like to be part of this team shoot an email to [email protected] explaining why you want to be part of this team and what you can contribute. Thank you.
You know that you need a new kernel for ICS to work properly right? Ch3vr0n5 and dpw13 are currently working on it over at slatedroid.
lol. i was gonna post something similar to this in the next couple days. I made the n1 ics port and started work today trying to get ics booting on my gtab. I think first order of business is to start a room on freenode.

Yea upon further investigation there are already a few people working on this. In fact a quick google search will find you a booting cm9 for gtab. (i dont want to post the link since it is pre alpha and not my rom) but the gtab is not lacking devs by any means. (they just arent on xda)
oh and forget my post about the irc room there is already one. but again you must find it yourself

I appreciate that you didn't post the link to this, and please anyone else who "finds" this build (yes its out there) please do not post it anywhere either. It is extremely beta and has many problems (to the point where you would have to open your tablet to push the internal reset button). Thanks
i really don't appreciate this elitist dev crap. "yeah there's a place where you can talk about it, and a build you can get to try it, but i'm not going to tell you where." i completely understand that the devs are doing work that we (I) can't do and that they're entitled to a bit of leeway for that but if they're going to talk about their work in public and post shots, they're just doing it to get a rise out of people. there is no valid reason to restrict people from trying out alpha builds except to keep others out of their club.
of course, if you want to install something against the advice of someone who knows a lot more than you do, that's your perogative but you assume all responsibility. it does absolutely make sense that the devs want ZERO whining or "bug reporting" from alpha builds. ostensibly, the devs and those with technical acumen are trying to protect newbs who might fry their tabs. to my thinking however, nothing would make someone learn faster not to flash random **** than a $300 brick. we're all intelligent humans and not children, however, so

note: THIS IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER. i tested it on a 1.2BL tab. i had to turn off the getprop script asserts to get it to install, which is usually bad form. it boots, but we have no hw acceleration, no wifi, no camera, no sound, no usb storage or adb... etc. this is just a taste, proof that work is being done.

There are good reasons why the devs don't want this posted. Its not to spite anyone or rub it in their faces. 1 they don't want to be liable for someone elses damaged tablet, 2 do you know if the voltage regulators aren't correct it could fry your gtablet permanently, 3 they're a good hard working group who is doing this for zero dollars in their spare personal time and only want to put out a good working product. Have a little respect for their wishes. Be warned that alpha build could permanent damage your gtablet.

Well aren't you cool, learning how to use google and ****.
EDIT: Ok now that I'm done fuming about this. The release that was posted is an early build of CM9. It is based off of Android 4.0.3. The kernel that is included with that release is linux 2.6.36. Since then, we have now moved onto 2.6.39. In no way is the "dev" group elitist. At any time anyone could have joined the IRC group and asked for a download link to the latest kernel/rom. The reason this has not been released yet is because of the "power button" script. When the power button is tripped at random times it causes the entire tablet to freeze up. The only way to "reset" the tablet is to open it up and press the internal reset button, thereby voiding any warranty from Viewsonic. Another issue that I have seen with using this kernel is possible damage to the camera. Just a few days ago I learned that while running this kernel the camera heats up and is hot to the touch, almost to the point of burning yourself. I have since then, unplugged the camera from the mainboard, to hopefully stop damage to the camera (I'm guessing that whoever has run this already without unplugging their camera, has potentially fried it). In short, installing this rom does give you some latest and greatest software to play with, but with it comes risks. DO NOT INSTALL THIS ROM/KERNEL IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO RISK DAMAGING YOUR TABLET.
ps. As a dev. team, we will be releasing HC with a .36 kernel that supports hw accel very soon. Keep your heads up for that release. Hopefully this release can hold people over until everything becomes more stable. Thank you all for patiently waiting.

Im tired of froyo and can't wait to play the THD games that required 2.3+. Thank you and the rest of the team so much for your hard work. Im not a programmer but im going to start digging for the technical info you need for the camera.

That said if you guys need any testing done just shoot me a PM, I rarely use my tablet any more and have cracked it open plenty of times for other hardware testing. Guess where it was posted? Nope, not the gs2 forum. Just because u port a Rom doesn't mean u promote it in the original forums. Please understand, I'm not trying to flame or anything. Just showing you how things work around here.

Anyway... NuroSlam your Score is broken? or you just can't charge it?
I don't know if ZTE has released any kernel source that will work on CDMA phones, it's their duty to do that under the GPL, so hassle ZTE, your network operator (if it's a network-branded phone) & the place that supplied you with your phone. Do it loudly, in public, Twitter is good. Without source code for the kernel they're violating copyright by selling these phones.
If you compile CM7 for VMSPLIT 2G then you might be able to get it working with the stock kernel.

Since the Blade section was the one i went to get any info on the score, not to mention that yes, the idea of the same brand does make sense to put it where one might think it gets seen....but there is no need for the snarky BS from others...but i digress.
The USB port is toasted as is my card reader, im working on another way to charge the battery but resources are limited., collected 1/2 so far in donations, so perhaps i can score a new one next week.

[MINI NOTES] MiniCM10 for Xperia x8

I have created this thread so that I can offer my thoughts on the MiniCM10 ROM for the Xperia x8. Think of this as a pre-review. If you have ANY suggestions, please leave them as a post below.
This is a pre-review of the first version of Mini-CM10 on top of the first version of the jb kernel. Both pieces were created by nobodyAtall.
I would prefer for people to see this as a MICRO review. The ROM is in a beta like state so there will be very little for me to talk about.
If you have not read my review of the MiniCM9 ROM, see HERE

Yes in deedii
A full review will be typed up once MiniCM10 is finalized. Props again to nAa to another great release.
The latest and only version currently of the MiniCM10 ROM for the Xperia x8 16th of August 2012. After using the Mini CyanogenMOD ROM I can guarantee that this ROM has promises of greatness. Many ROM breaking issues however still exist: voice command, sign in issues and so on. I refuse to hammer on these because they will be ironed out later on. So without further or do I will review away on the three main areas.
Visuals
CyanogenMOD stays true to the original gangsta' version of Android. (The vanilla experience). Yet again the ROM continues to offer a beautifully tweaked to impress version of Jelly Bean. Unfortunately, as of now, new wallpapers are missing however I'm sure they will be added later.
Kernel/Performance
I have seen a great increase in overall performance from this ROM. I can safely say that you won't be stumped by 1-2 second delays like you were in CM9. The battery has also, from what I have seen so far, been moderately extended. Getting 4-5 days of moderate use.
Advanced Options & Apps
I have seen no big update in how many advance options are offered. Similarly no new apps have been added. Hopefully this will be changed in the final version. A suggestions would be to have two versions maybe, one with advanced options and one without. Maybe a port of these options from CM7 can be created.
Conclusion
MiniCyanogenMOD10 for the Xperia x8 shows definite signs of the ultimate ROM. I see no reason why the final verison should not be ROTY. (rom of the year). I have tried not to hammer on the bad because everything will be fixed as usual later on by the renowned developer nAa. Drop a thanks by his post if you have benefited from him.
RATING: I will not rate it in its current state. :fingers-crossed: This is out of pure respect for nAa
I have spent quite some time typing this review, please do not troll. All suggestions on the other hand are more than welcome. Please hit 'thanks' if you appreciate my massive effort. Sorry if this is not something you wanted. Even though the guide is long, I call it mini because it does not cover everything.

Can you please ask that differently? I don't understand what you mean.

Seeing as this is a review I cannot deem it appropriate to offer tips. Once the rom is finished however, this guide will be produced.
Thankyou again.
How far is this madness gonna go?!
I'd like to stress the fact that our X8 doesn't have what it takes to handle ICS/JB properly.
I appreciate your work, nAa, I tested MiniCM9 twice and I twice returned back to GB with the feeling of satisfaction.
These ROMs can serve as nice experiments, but are very unsuitable for daily use. You even had to expand the system storage at the expense of internal data, forcing others to use sd-ext, bringing potential new issues connected with that. It's obvious that you try to bring this to a usable state, but I doubt that's possible. Anyway, what's the point? GB can be modded to look like ICS and still work like a charm...

You got a point there. Then I guess it's better to stop working for these devices and let them die.
Development is about breaking the limits. If some of you isn't satisfied with ICS or other custom ROM, please flash Eclair or Donut and enjoy the ride

And that, my friends, is how soft modded roms are created.
Sorry to disappoint you with a somewhat bad review I understand all that you mentioned fully. I too can see the x8 becoming a legacy device in months to come. I myself think I should trade the Iphone 4s I got as a gift for an S3 because even though phones keep changing, I can see the s3 as a spectacular phone for years to come.
I will support the x8 community with reviews, tips and help until it dissapears. Thankyou for the comment.

NOOO, nAa, I don't want to disregard further development on X8. Maybe there's still something to be improved on GB and Froyo...
I tested your MiniCM9 for about a week and I only confirmed what I thought it would be like. Beautiful and attractive, if there is a reason for having it, then it's the look.
However, even though I used swap and a2sd, I still experienced that drawback in responsiveness and RAM management from previous android versions. I admire your persistence and effort. It's interesting watching how much can our X8 take...maybe JB is the end, who knows?

Sorry, but I know how ICS works on X8. Try installing 60 apps and use them fully for a week... It really is great and stable, but not suitable for with many apps

Who uses 60 apps on ics. Your asking for ttrouble when you do that. Browser, whatsapp, xda, winamp and mail app is all I need

Yeah, I can't help myself. I have 5 dictionaries, 16 games, audio player, video player, browser, pocket, reference materials to school like periodic table, office, file explorer, xda,TB, reader, web storage apps,...
I always use my X8 like that. I restore it from TB
But with such a small amount as you use...I don't see a problem as using ICS as a daily ROM

That's for sure. There will always be the wonderful GB ROMs waiting there for any user, all thanks to the devs!

Really don't appreciate that.
You can live in your imaginary world where the x8 is supported forever but we all know it will be abandoned sooner or later.
Also, with no ROMs of your own, guides of your own or support for the x8 community, statements like that will plunge you in very deep.
It's clear you didn't read my post.
XDA is based purely upon reading. If you struggle with that I suggest leaving. I myself speak 3 languages so don't even get me started on the difficulties articulation.
Thanks
thanks also to CtrlAltDeleteIrl.
Hey everyone, nAa thanks for such a great rom, and kernel work and keeping our x8's top notch
I actually wanted to share something with you guys, i've been testing on mini cm10 and managed to upgrade it successfully without formating data partition, and things work excellent.
As new to the forum i can not post into development threads so, here we go
A major downside to this version of jelly bean i think is the a2sd script, which i think is fine, at some extent(data fills up rapidly).
I rely most of time on link2sd app on gingerbread, but its not working in mini cm 10 (works but its buggy)
So i had to make room for my apps somehow (about 120+?), so i wrote a little experimental script based on a2sd, im rusty as it come to scripting but still gets the job done, i wanna somehow forward it to nAa, as i think it works good for my purpose which is:
Move/make symbolic links of:
(link2sd already does this, on mini cm10 is buggy)
data/app/*.apk -> sd-ext
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> sd-ext
data/data/*/lib/*.so -> sd-ext
(this one free's up a lot of space on /data among with libs to sd-ext)
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> sd-ext
(however if we mount bind with a2sd, whole /data/dalvik-cache, this is moved too and makes rom super slow)
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> stays on internal
I ended up with almost a 50/50 ratio of free/used on /data (i just checked i have 153 apps on sd-ext and 3 on internal)
Also had to edit a2sd script so if flags are not set, it doesn't delete dalvik each time on boot, the only thing i don't seem to find how to do is, that this rom deletes the symbolink links of libs on each reboot(filling data partition again on start), maybe you can help out on this one, nAa if you are interesed i could send you the little script, I think you could arrange it to make mini cm 10 much better
keep the good work up!
cheers

I read your whole thread before posting, I always read threads here even if I don't log. I will post what I want to post, I have my own opinions you have yours, this is a forum isn't it?, but you don't have the right to belittle me if you don't like my post, oh i forgot! this is the internet, my bad, you have all the right to badmouth me, how convenient it is, wasn't it? BTW, What a helpful thread this is, indeed . Don't flatter yourself with the so called 3 languages that you speak of, who cares about that, not me at least, this is XDA. I will leave your thread, but I will not leave XDA as you suggested. I dont want to flame, but I have the right to defend myself, sorry for my sarcasms. I, myself want to support X8 community, sometimes I post here in the forum to help, but I dont have time to post guides, tips, ROMs, or threads which is......ugh.... massive in terms of effort, because I have a life outside of XDA. Enjoy your stay here Mr. Deftone. Thanks as always for your massive helpful threads. :good: I'm not trolling, am I? LOL.

I would say you are. If you want to defend yourself( I mostly agree with your opinion), send a PM to Deftone. This post isn't related to the thread topic in any aspect, so please use PMs to express yourself personally. That's what PMs are for. Have a nice day
