Anyway,
The purpose of this thread and i hope it kicks off, Is for us to post our stats with how much battery life , Display screen time etc etc, we are getting out of our current set ups, Which i think will be helpful for all so we can "Roughly" estimate and compare between ourselves, and to help those looking for a better alternative..

it would probably be more relevant if you post a graph without charging the phone
btw, it's an interesting thread to help choose a battery efficient rom, and to see if anybody really can get a 5 h screen on time with a single charge (like i've read around here), I only get 3,5-4 hours, I'll post my stats later

The screen time highly depends on what you're doing with the phone. If you play somewhat heavy games, you won't get the 5 hours.
But if you mostly use it for light stuff, those 5 are generally easy to get. And even 6 or 7.
So in other words, this thread is simply a big fap fest/look at my e-peen hoedown ?

Ummm Not really Mate,
And well i was in a bit of a rush when i made it...
But of course there are MANY factors that can determine the battery life,
But there is also no harm in us showing what we are getting with our current setups? Im not saying we are going to get 3 days if we play like 4 hours of a game on our phone..
But for some "General Users" this may prove quite useful?
I for one am interested in the post above, Saying that he is getting 3 days, I would love to know his setup , then i can try it out and see if it works better for me?
Thats the only aim of this thread...
So i would appreciate if you didnt use such remarks mate ^_^

Exactly,
I know there are alot of factors with what determines the screen time,
But there is no harm in us discussing what we are getting with our current set-ups and how much use we do with our phones..
Using Checkrom Revolution v4 and neak 1.3.3 kernel
With stock battery

are you kidding me, 7 h and 44 mins , I get almost 4 hours screen, only by doing moderate stuff, (browsing, a few calls, some music, I'll post graphs later when the battery discharges), I'm on cm9, but it was the same before with stock roms, think i'm going to get Checkrom a try, only to see if it can reach that kind of performance

LOL I've seen someone hit 8 hours screen on with Hyperdroid. I'd have to underclock to about 500mhz and have screen brightness on the lowest setting whilst looping a blank video to hit that lmao
Sorry. I'll leave you to fap off over battery life & show each other your e-peens in peace.

Mostly browsing the internet..xda..videos on youtube..whatsapp..email..calling..and some games
Im using a mostly black wallpaper..no widgets and brightness on around 30% with sync on all the time.

These are the results I got today. It's not the best but pretty good.
Info:
• Foxhound 3.0 (KL1)
• Siyah Kernel 2.6.7
• 2000 mAh battery
• All day connected to wifi, 15 minutes max to 3G/H+
• Activities on phone: lots of whatsapp, viber calls, Internet browsing, played a few games for a few minutes (fruit ninja for example), etc
Result as in screenshots: 6 hours of screen time and over 13 hours of standby time.
well here are my stats, not very good from what i see
-the latest build of cm9
-2:36 h of screen on but 31% still left
-about 30 mins of calls, some sms, connected to a 3g network but data on only for about 10 mins and wi fi for about 3 hours
-an hour of music
-about 20 mins of games (apparatus )
I think that I'll flash Check Rom + Neak tonight to see how it goes, tomorrow the 2000 mAh battery will arrive so the next post will be with the new battery
Nice seems like we are getting some good feedback at the moment ^_^,
If we get more and more posts,
I will make some sort of Template Guideline i guess that everyone should follow when they make their Posts...
Im tempted to get a 2000mah battery it seems like a couple of people have upgraded to that, I think i will wait for a bit more feedback from others,
Still currently testing my Hyperdroid + Neak 1.3.3 at the moment,
Will see what i get out from it..

The 2000 mAh extanded battery is very nice. It adds about 20-35% battery life. What I also like is the new back cover that comes with it. The back becomes "flush" with that hump at the bottom of the phone. Also, the phone becomes more rounded. It sits better in your hand imo.

Hi guys,
After buying s2 i was worried about battery life. Because first two days it was like 12-14 hours of medium use.
But now its marathon :d

I thought i was getting good battery life with medium to heavy usage (27 hours) on Cognition 1.15 but that is exceptional, can you tell me your set up as to how you achieved this amount of battery life.
cheers
Tegrak's kernel and underclocked.
Frozen samsung apps. and brightness mostly 0% as i am fairly fine with the lowest brightness it doesn't hurt my eyes.
also one more thing, i am using overclocking upto 1300 as well and you will be surprised most people will tell you to go underclock to save battery but i didn't and i am just happy with 1.3 Ghz blazing speed.
Here's a shot of running.

Also i used camera for recording movie for about 50 minutes in 720P and 50+ photographs as well which is not mentioned in the above post. I will post once again when my battery will reach 1% because when its below 10% it drops really slow and allows me to use it more unlike when its full.
Sit it on a desk and stare at it. The average screen on time is 5 hrs. You can use that in a day or spread it across 3 days.

One more thing, i only recharge battery when its below 5% or mostly under 2% to full turning it off. And ofcourse this only first week of using the phone, hope it will increase a bit more by next week.
[Note: I personally believe plugging in and out of charger makes the phone battery drop faster]

What ROM are you using?
I usually have brightness set to auto, same as you all Samsung apps frozen, am not using Tegrak i don't believe it's compatible with Cognition ROM, are you using Juice Defender Ultimate or other apps, etc, etc, im on setcpu im 200 min - 800 max - on demand and screen off profile - 200 min - 500 max - consertivave - priority 100.

That is the best battery life ive ever seen on XDA for any type of smartphone never mind one like the GS2, did you use the Internet/Wi-Fi/GPS/Bluetooth,etc, much,do you have any widgets on your screen, push e-mail,etc, im amazed your getting that amount of time without using Juice defender or some other similar app.

Bluetooth yes for 10 minutes transfering some files.
Gps yes for around 1 hour (you can see that in pics atleast it shows usage for ndrive there)
wifi yes around 1 hour but its always on mostly (mostly used for market to download and test applications, gmailing and also some browsing)
3g or edge no i didn't use it.
Games yes i played like drag race etc.
widget yes, battery widget and the running app widget and live wallpapers.
Mine, I think there's a little (big) problem :
Considering the first 8 hours were during the night so I didn't touch my phone :
Running on VR2.1, many things push or so (like 15/30mins refresh) [mails, fb, twitter, news, weather, etc], and good modem (KG2) and CF-Root 4.1.
Any idea/advice please ?
A better rom maybe ?
Thanks in avance

The real secret to great battery life is to disable all the data connections and not use the phone. Since most people are pretty active with their phones, threads about stand-by time are pretty meaningless. Actually, with over a dozen battery life threads already running, you could say new battery life thread are pretty meaningless too.

Ok thats along the lines of what I thought it was. Thanks.
Didn't know it was possible to change it, illigal. Huh
But can some one tell me where it is shown so I can block it if I ever post some screen shots?
I'm on stock K2-CL. I used 3G just a bit today while in a restaurant, wifi is always on, but I normally sit in front of the computer most of the day, or use my tablet at home, so I do very light surfing - mostly while on the can.
I've not installed "app freezers", nor underclocked the processor, nor rooted or removed anything that isn't stock android. Not stopping tasks in the task manager. In the screenshot below, I did play around a bit on Google Earth for 15 min or so, I'm surprised not to see the android market in there because I feel that's what I used most. I use a live wallpaper that's fairly bright (moving clouds).
Brightness on auto - automatic gmail notifications, contact syncs etc.
I'm going to go on a big trip next week, where electricity will sometimes be optional. I do have that Samsung battery case thinggie coming the mail next week - and already have an external battery as well for emergencies, because this phone will die in an hour or two using the gps, or playing games, or doing serious web surfing - or a combination of those things. It runs very hot too if you use it constantly several hours (drove 500 kilometers last week, the phone was very very hot - seemed unhealthy).
If you hold the power button along with the home button it takes a screen shot.
Thought id say to make it easier for ya in future!
thanks a millions
Don't mind the n00b Here.
Found the IMEI number in the status tab of about phone.
Goto remember to keep this out of public photos.
It seems as though battery life is one of the most common topics among us vibrant owners. We are always looking to increase battery life, whether it be with a new rom, new kernels, or apps from the market. I wanted to start this thread for everyone to share their experiences, tricks of the trade, etc on getting the best battery life.
Post pictures, rom info, kernel info, app info, modem info, battery info etc! No pic, no proof!!!
This is the best I have been able to get with my phone with:
Bionix 1.3.1 - Stock kernel - KB1 modem - TW launcher - auto brightness off, set about 2 clicks from the left - battery calibration app used at 100% - Stock battery. Light / Light moderate usage, phone calls, texts, web searches. GPS on.

Well, this is great battery life you got there For me 24h is the most I can squeeze from my Vibrant with Project V/Bullet 1.42 kernel, auto brightness off, moderate usage. 16h with heavy usage... It's fully charged now so I don't have pics to show it
i used around 5% with in an hour with somewhat heavy usage this is cm7 nightly 71 bali with uv
srdjav - have you tried bali uv? I heard it works really well, especially with bi-winning, but I have heard great things about it on all different types of roms
gamikzone - impressive for cm7, I have read horror stories that the battery life on it wasn't all that great...but I guess with the kernel script and bali, it's way better!
@corpsetomb
Yes, I did tried Bali... But honestly, didn't see much difference in battery life. I have tried 4 different kernel on Project V and battery life was always 16-24h, depends of the usage. With extremely heavy usage 16h... So i decided to stay with Bullet 1.42.
But I didn't try Bi-Winning ROM yet... Maybe I will give it a try
But I had very bad experience with Super_DragonMODz 1.5 kernel... For a few hours everything was ok. But in one moment I picked up a phone after doing nothing for a half an hour and it was HOT! And I could smell "burning" inside Luckily when I took battery out and let the phone cool down, it was ok

haha what is this, a courtroom?
truly, none of this matters. one big factor in battery life is application use. in order to pinpoint someones battery usage, one would have to list, in detail, their application usage. which/how many apps poll for background data/how often? is the person using an autokiller/ram optimizer? which/how many apps stay open in the background, even when killed?
The bottom line is, battery life is ultimately determined by the user. there are only so many differences, in terms of battery, between these roms and kernels. none of them will give you a SIGNIFICANT difference. this is not the fault of the devs, they are not magicians.
This is why people do not get nice responses in rom/kernel threads when they ask "how is the battery life?". Then some clown who is a very light user will say "its great! i get 20hrs per cycle!!" and then you flash it expecting ground-shaking results...only you forgot that you have 317 apps on your phone (20 of which are constantly poll/checking for background data), and you use your phone/data like a whore who youll never see again. and unfortunately, there are horrible noobs out in there who, after doing this, will actually go back into the thread and say something like "DO NOT FLASH, MY BATTERY DOESNT EVEN LAST 8 HRS!!!!"
Theres only one true way to REALLY compare battery between ROMs/kernels (and it still isnt 100%trustworthy): download a ROM, try it out for a few days at moderate usage. Then flash the one you want to compare it to. Make sure you have the SAME exact setup as the ROM before (apps, brightness, GPS on/off, background data, etc.), and try to mimmick your usage with the other one. NOW you can effectively determine, relatively, which ROM may show better battery results for everybody. and then, when someone asks "does this have good battery?" you dont just say yes; you say "yes, i have seen noticeable improvement since coming from _______ rom, i about ___hrs more per full charge "
sorry for the rant

@TopShelf10
No worries, I welcome your input! I agree that a big factor in battery life is application use. You will see in the OP that I recommended people put in as much detail as possible along with their picture, such as what type of use, kernel, rom, etc. I would also like to hear and see comparisons between roms, that is part of what this thread is all about! To be able to compare different roms and see what helps based on usage.
Thank you for participating and your input!
Note: Do you guys think I should start a list of best battery life in the op?

You can manipulate the battery use stats pretty easily... at least on CM7. If I plug my phone in to charge for an hour, it doesn't reset my battery usage. Sometimes when I look at it it will say 24 hours+. Which I know is not at all accurate.

I have to say that after some experimintation I am getting consistantly incredible batter life. For instance, I took off charger at 6:00 am at 100% fully charged this am. It is now 6:00 PM (12 hrs) constant MS Exchange updating, internet browsing, and about 2.5 hrs on phone calls, I now have 81%.
Some facts:
I am on stock KG5
the following definatly made the batter life wose:
Beautiful Widgets
Widget Locker Lockscreen
I have NO battery monitor programs like Juice Defender. In fact I have purchased Juice Defender Ultimate and I saw a slight decrease in perforance.
I have to following apps installed:
Sirius XM Premium online
App2SD Pro
Google Maps update
MLB At Bat 2011
Scanner Radio Pro
You Tube update
OI File Manager
Only downfalls of KG 5 is no video with the Google talk and Flash crashes with the browser. Tried KH1 and KH3, not ready for prime time.
Thoughts and comments welcome.

I think the problem is not the battery mate. You have the same problem than me. Talking two hours and a half by phone every day is nasty, I am sure you have about 80 mails every day like me. This is the real problem to solve, we have to work less so the battery will last more , and kick someone asses who are always calling us and giving problems
100 battery threads but i didnt yet find a clear answer if 2.3.4 improves battery life or not..i wait for the official release so i didnt use any 2.3.4 rom yet...
i too have awesome battery life! my phone was unplugged 13hrs 17m 15s ago and now has 88% remaining..... stock bvkg3 orange rom...
I'm tired of these threads. It's not like samsung sold some phones with good battery life and some without. They are ALL the EXACT SAME.
You can't have a 'better' battery life than another SGS2 user. You can't have a 'worse' battery life either. What matters is usage.
Anyone can get 'incredible' battery life - simply install any ROM such as cog or vr, and do a full wipe. Install only 10 apps, and use the phone sporadically, dare I say, use the phone 'as a phone'.
What I'm trying to say is that the people reporting 52 hours of battery life or what not simply do not use the phone as much as others do. If it sounds logical, that's because it is.
There is no 'magic pill'. I get 54h on standby because despite having 205 apps, I used betterbatterystats to uninstall the worst offenders. But today for example I got 6h out of my battery because I spent 3h hours with the screen on, 1 hour on GPS navigation in my car, 1 hours taking pictures with the flash on, 1 hour playing angry birds. 205 apps, endless memory resident programs, custom-everything, even my wallpaper is 3d with 16x MSAA through CF3d, what did I expect?
The whole Iphone comparison is also whack. I own an iphone 4. Sure when stock the thing flies and stays on battery like you wouldn't believe. But try to customize it and you'll find the same problems that you find on android. Plus, it's twice as heavy as my sgs2
I prefer using my sgs2 as a laptop, the battery life is still better than my acer.
I call bs. But while Im at it i get over 100 hours on my battery. On standby. Omg. I can't believe how long my phone lasts when I don't use it.
Or.
I used my phone 15 hours today. 5 hours screen time. Heavy wifi and cell data. .and snes emulator 2 hours. And I still had 30%. Omfg incredible. I can't believe it not butter. And these are my usual stats or the like. And I don't have a sgs2. I don't get to jizz my pants every day like you guys. Omg. This must be the most incredibly dumb post I've ever posted.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Wow... so much anger in this forum.
There is a simple solution to all of u angry birds, when u see a thread with the word "battery" in it, run away as fast as u can, and dont look back, ur wasting ur time and others by posting useless angry replies, so cut the crap and grow up...
to the op, thanks for ur post it was helpful at least to me if that counts.

Wow. 4 hours. On a charge. Omfg. Incredible. I get about 7 hours. On a charge. I guess all that wifi/cell data, email sync, emulators and text make me a light user. Tucks tail between legs.

@cigaro78 You are sooo wrong! The batteries are not all the same. It depends on many factors (how they are stored before shipping, and lotof thing).
Last year i did some test on 5 exact same new mobile phones (samsung omnia i900) and 2 of them have battery wear of 24%.
So the point is that you coud buy a new phone with some percentage of damaged battery.
Thats a first thing, the second thisng is that firmware (battery optimisation) could extremely reduce or extend battery life, depanding on optimisation.
I tried 5 firmwares, 3 of them 2.3.3 and 2 - 2.3.4. (all stock roms)
Best battery experience I had with 2.3.3 XWKF3 (2.3.3), and the worst on XXKH3 (2.3.4), but for some users 2.3.4 is way better for battery.
I can't get over 16h of normal usage at all. (1h phone talk, 50-80 messages, 25 emails, 30 mins on internet (3G) and about 20 mins of playing amtale). DIsplay usage is 44% (auto), 25% Voice calls, 10% android OS, Internet 9% Android system 8% etc...
I was quite chuffed with mine, 2d 12 hours! admittedly not heavy usage but moderate!

Hello, I am a happy owner of the DHD.
It 'a great phone, but as you know, the only drawback is battery life.
I've tried several (few) ROM so far, and one with which I am slightly better is the RCMIX.
Now with this post does not go into details about what set, how to optimize (Sync off, energy saving displays, etc. ...) but I ask all your experience based on the ROM that you have installed:
1 - how to use the terminal?
2 - how long you last on a full charge and use it to do?
3 - What kind of ROM you use?
Thanks to all. I think it will be useful for someone like me, prefer a long battery life rather than three thousand graphicals functions

Battery life... it's been quite heavily documented on the DHD fora, but here we go:
1500mah is not enough for a huge screen, especially if you want to use the phone's capabilities. The versatility of this phone means you'll want to be browsing, doing emails, playing processor heavy games etc. Each to his own
So, limit the stuff you sync (mail/facebook, news, weather), or at least reduce the frequency. These things cause "partial wake locks", which stop the phone falling into a deep sleep, after which battery consumption is minimal. Watch out for wifi settings too. Search for BetterBatteryStats (by chamonix) on the Android Apps section of the xda forum for much more detail, and tips.
You should be able to get to the end of the day with a good ROM (eg Leedroid/Revolution - they are very popular, but the threads are immense, which makes looking for information difficult). These ROMs have over/underclocking built in (governors), and you can also undervolt (theoretically reduces consumption too).
Limit transitions, be reasonable with screen brightness etc.
And if all else fails, and you use the phone intensively and can't get to the end of the day, you could invest in a power pack (search Amazon for the New Trent 5000mah power pack, which costs less than €30)
my DHD lasts around 4 hrs continuous screen on, much longer screen off. IMO, LM based roms have the best battery life.
But you could always get cheap $3 batteries for the Desire HD off ebay.
Battery life on my DHD was very bad before i rooted it. I am now running RCMix3D Runny V1.3 and my battery has lasted over 30 hours with alot of use.

Your kernel? Radio? Ril?
with m0rbus called "normal usage" my phone lasts around 48h. using my rom and lordmod 7.2 cfs and my personal governor/undervolt settings.
edit: though this result is not really specific to MY miui rom. one should be able to achieve these results with that kernel and settings on every aosp rom.
edit2: with "my normal usage" it last around 24-30h. this includes gameing, emailing, testing settings for developing my rom, rebooting etc.
I've used alot of roms most of the sense ones seem to use about the same battery life better than stock (they get me through work stock needed charged at lunch) but for a week now I've been using miui I've been home about an hour played about 15 min of angry birds, watched a few min on youtube and surfed on xda for a bit and I just over 40% i think that's pretty good going.

Hi, I upgrade the ROM from the group Android Revolution, and my internet I put on 2G and work with WI-FI, GPS and SYNC ON. My battery life is working about 1,5 day.
Before I upgrade I use a Super-Wire patch from ARHD, I think this patch get this performace.
PS.: Sorry My English. I´m Brazilian.
I dunno guys.. I think all that is your subjective feeling and that ROM has no effect whatsoever on battery. Maybe small, but unnoticable. You never do things exactly the same or have battery charged exactly the same. In order to prove ROM has effect on battery usage you would have to make lab tests, i.e. make conditions the same. Moreover, if you look at the statistics of battery usage, it is clear that the most battery goes on SCREEN. And then GPS. Everything else is just a couple of %. All the talk of turning off wifi/3G to conserve power is simply not true. Just look at the statistics! Wifi takes like 2-3% of the power used, tops! The screen with it's 40%-70% is the problem, and there is no way to reduce that...

exactly....
You could always try to lower auto brightness levels by way of a flashable patch. I found that after doing this the screen was only using between 30-40% of the battery. Even so, it is the screen that always uses the majority of the battery. All the tips regarding decreasing battery by switching off syncing, wifi, widgets, etc are in my opinion a bit misleading. If you have a good radio and corresponding RIL then this will vastly reduce battery consumption whilst still being able to sync emails, widgets, etc with the wifi on. I recommend Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 and it's matching HTC-RIL 2.2.0160HM. I'm currently on Orange in the UK and this combo works best for me across several different ROMs.

Yes and no.
If you are using the device, you can limit transitions, underclock the processor (via a custom ROM), flash a patch to modify the brightness as mentioned below. That definitely will help reduce consumption while in use.
However, and this is not collected in the Battery Usage option in Settings, Partial Wakelocks are the main contributor to battery consumption. When the phone is inactive, it should be asleep as much as possible - applications like Phone, Mail, Latitude, alarms etc wake it up for either scheduled or ad-hoc events. If you install BetterBatteryStats you will see which processes are keeping your phone awake & hence in a higher state of battery consumption.
Oh, do NOT buy cheap ebay batteries. They lie about their capacity. The only battery which offers more capacity than the OEM one, is Mugen (search in the Accessories forum), it's 1500mah. That extra power could make the difference in making it to the end of the day, but it costs about $45 I think.
You think this behaviour is normal?
Keep in mind that my DHD are this morning on the deck, and only hotspot is active (with whom I connect from the notebook) and sync only 2 emails to connect every 15 minutes each

If I charge the phone before going to sleep to 100% and leave it on, in the morning the battery it at like 60-70% which IMHO is really too much. I have sync set to between 1-2 hour intervals depending on service, but over night I set phone data to OFF so it shouldn't matter, should it? Then why such consumption? I understand it over the day when I use it, but at night the display is off, data is off so what could cause this? It can't be syncing since the data is off....
Okay guys...!! To start with I was very upset with my battery life that it doesn't even last a day or even 4-5 hours...
I was so upset that I was feeling like taking a new phone instead of this...
I also tried to add custom ROMS ( Cyanogen Mod 10.1.2, PAC ROM, AOSP )...
but nothing worked out for me...I keep asking in the forum of XDA how to save battery life, which rom does give more battery life..
Finally, I've found my own way to increase the battery life, It says learning on its own teaches you everything...!!!
I learned finally how to increase the battery life...!!
To start with, I'll let you know how much I used and how much % battery it lasted...
On my daily usage it comes to Whatsapp+ using it 24/7...!! Facebook, downloading apps, Browsing on Google Chrome, Listening Music allot, Playing games ( smaller games like Wheres my water, Despicable me, Ninja jump, Pool, Cricket, temple run, angry birds..) Asphalt 8 really sucks in battery...If you use it for 20 minutes and play that game your battery will jump from 70 to 55%...
Even after using my battery so much, I had 13% left to use...!!! A REAL SHOCK
After doing all that My battery lasted for 9 hrs and 52 minutes...!!! I was really shock with it...!!! But it really worked out...!!!
Stamina mod showed 1day and some minutes as a standby mod...!! I'll soon post the screenshot...!!
Lets start:
It's just 10 Simple steps
you need to 1st VVVV important thing is to ROOT the phone..!!
2nd..Again important thing...!!! ( DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY BATTERY SAVING APPS )..Examples are ( GO power, Juice Defender which sucks for me, DU Battery saver...!!! )
3rd...Keep the Stamina MOD on..!!
4th..Download Better Battery Stats...for your guidance...!!
5th Make your screen brightness to 0...( Select Adapt to light conditions )...Trust me making brightness to 0 will still help you to see anything on the mobile even in the sun..I've tried it..
6th Download Greenify for Hibernating apps....which will not eat your battery allot ( Worked for me like a charm ).
7th Download Startup manager...For stopping all the apps that start when you boot the phone..
8th Don't keep any launchers ( Next Launcher, Go Launcher, Nova launcher or any other launcher except for the Xperia Home..)
9th On the homescreen, put the apps only on 1 page...!!
10th Don't use any Live wallpaper or anything news or weather widget...!!
Trust me guys..!! You'll definitely see results as I've experienced it and I'm now really happy with my Xperia Z ( Rooted) phone..!!!
Below are the screenshots!!
Uploaded new photos...!!!!

Rather than using apps like Startup manager, it is better to de-bloat and remove system apps that is known to eat up the battery or converting them to user apps, and then greenify the **** out of them.
Also with the use of custom kernel with undervolt and init.d script support will help a lot - it makes the battery life tweaking easier!

exactly, why shouldn't we disable/shut off certain things: There are plenty of features or apps
1. I tested but didn't like or
2. which I know better alternatives to or
3. which I never use or
4. ...
Why should we leave these things (ON) on our phones?
Thats irrational.

I was also worried about the admins or some devs who will comment that don't post something like this...etc

As it worked for me, I thought to let other users know about this and it might be useful for them...!!
