This may sound incredibly stupid, but is the HTC MyTouch 4G the same as the LG MyTouch 4G? Could I use the same root process?
Also, if I charge to 100%, does it harm the battery if I leave it on the charger?
Sorry for the probably obvious questions.

Well the manufacturers should be obvious enough..
No the HTC Glacier is completely different from the LG Mytouch.
I honestly think HTC is better.
So no, the root methods won't be the same.
And batt wise... It shouldn't..

Actually leaving your phone on the charger after it's fully charged can an will affect battery life, if it is done constantly every time. My advice go get a powermat with the cube adapters. It'll only charge your phone till its fill an stop. Once battery level drops, it fills it back up. Just like a good bartender when your beer is empty or bout to be.
As for rooting, check out super one click root. It should be able to do, normally I would explain the differences in the lg an HTC mytouches, but I'm not going to bore you. If you want to know more, pm me.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.

And I was sure that overcharging problems are gone decades ago with all those dumb AA-battery chargers, which could not determine when they should stop actually charging a battery due to lack of any sensors.
Mobile phones for years do have needed circuitry to stop charging the battery when it's full. The problem, however, might occure if you would recharge the phone when its battery is not discharged but nearly full every time. But for modern batteries this is no longer a big deal.

These batteries are LiPo batteries, they have no memory. It doesn't effect them. It's different battery than the older phone that use NiHmy or Ni-Cad batteries. Only grossly undercharging them will harm them. They need a minimum voltage to say active. Once they go below that, they die.
Wow, thank you everyone. I usually get snide commentary on my questions.
The reason I had asked if the HTC was the same as LG was because I couldn't find an LG forum; which, lead me to believe they were rolled into one 'MyTouch 4G' area.

I'm thinking about getting a spare battery. Would my calibration be off if I swap batteries often? I'm planning a trip and gonna get a spare just in case.
Yeah, it would be pointless if you are constantly swapping them because although the batteries are the same or similar they will have different capacities....I use two batteries myself so I always have one ready....I like it better that way....

I don't quite follow. First you are saying it's pointless to get another battery if you swap them often. And then you say you have two batteries yourself.
Each battery has it's own capacity/memory. This is not governed by the phone. However, the phone may not reflect the actual battery level if you swap batteries at different power levels. That's not so much of a big deal, as the main intention is to keep the phone powered. I've swapped batteries often with one of my other phones and haven't noticed any problems. The battery that was older didn't last quite as long as the new one, but it still worked.

What does "calibration" actually do? Will it improve the efficiency of battery usage?
Allegedly, I can't tell you for sure how much it will extend battery life because I don't do it....but supposedly if you do it faithfully for a week or so it works

Basically your battery has a memory.. some what, so its gets use to its regular drain and recharges. There's a couple of ways to calibrate it but I like to run it down till its dies and then charge it by usb for a slow recharge.. I do this atleast once a month.

It will just give you an accurate reading of your battery. You will still have the same amount life calibrated or not.
An example would be, let's say your battery is at 15% and it dies in just 10 minutes. Or if it's at 5% and the phone takes forever to die. That means the battery isn't calibrated.
But oh man..the battery is terrible. Granted I am on the stock battery and Rom/kernel. Where can I get the best deal on an extended battery? Also what the hell is with flashing radios and does cm6 require it?
Ps what is adr6300 down there?

Yeah, the battery life is horrid but that's because they decided to put in a 1300mah battery into it! wtf?
Comparable phones use the 1500mah battery stock!
Anyways, I bought the HTC OEM 1500mah battery for the incredible and it's like a normal phone. It also fits in with the stock battery door.
Bought it off htcpedia... you can probably find it on ebay for cheaper but i just dont trust ebay anymore.
I actually use the stock kernel now as it's light years better than the stock kernel before the last update.
EDIT: not sure if this is a serious question but the ADR6300 is your phone model.
Also, forgot to mention you are probably new enough to maybe not know about the whole bump charging thing. look it up, it will add a couple hours to your battery life.
I found the 3500 mah batteries (stick out a little in the back, which means they come with a new cover as well) for a good deal on Amazon. I'm not sure if it's within the ToS of this site to include links like this?

well the X has a better screen and it is noticeably faster when it comes to certain games. running liberty, overlocked/undervolted at 1.1gz on the stock batttery i was getting 2 days of battery life.
the INC has a larger more robust dev community and if that is what you are into, it is a huge plus. there are only so many themes you can flash on the X before getting bored.
sense >>>>>>>> motoblur. the droid x is almost un-useable with the stock software, IMO.
I have had both phones. I like the bigger screen and battery life of the DX, but if you are into modding your phone the Dinc is the way to go!! There are really only two or three roms for the DX. Just in the week or so that I've had my Dinc I am blown away at the level of support!! Dinc FTW!!

The x screen was awesome but this amoled screen is crazy! colors are so bright, i love it. and the ability to get more roms is great. also, one other stupid little thing, and this is silly, the way the screen gets marks on it on the x is horrible, the dinc screen seems like no matter how many finger swipes it stays clean. Its due to the fact that android's battery meter is more of a demand meter, so if you don't run it all the way down the first couple times it won't read remaining battery life correctly and try to make you charge when you're at h alf battery.
See threads about calibrating battery.
Hrm. I've had a 3500mah + extended back cover for several weeks now as purchased off eBay. This was before I knew about the wonders of Juice Defender and custom roms that helped increase battery life. This was when I was getting a few mere hours out of the stock battery before needing to charge.
Anyhow, the 3500 did increase life. I'd say it doubled it. After I found out about JuiceDefender, I only stayed with the 3500 for about two days before I reverted back to the stock battery. With JD, I can easily get all day out of the stock battery. It's amazing.
I just took the cover off the 3500 to see if I have two 1200's or two 1500's sandwiched together. I took the end cap off and indeed there are two cells laying on each other, but don't want to disassemble any further. Battery is a nice spare to have.
Well I have been a crack flasher for a while jumping around sense cm7 and now miui and I have to say I love it but I have never seen great battery life I am running the ics miui and have tdj's v11 kernel undervolted -75 1017/238 or whatever the second lowest one is just can't seem to figure out why my phone battery life isn't as great as the rest new battery. This is the answer.
It's a battery. By definition it holds a limited amount of power.
Until they invent a phone with a matter - anti matter reactor that can keep it powered on for thousands of years before needing a refueling, having to plug the phone in every night is just a reality. And that day is far off because the price of the Dilithium Crystals needed to harness the matter - anti matter reaction is just ridiculous.

After 8 hours of heavy use you still have 61% battery? That is good. I'm normally down to 18% after 8 hours of heavy use.
You even stated that you don't lose power with the screen off.
Why don't you try staying with one ROM for a while and see if it settles? I posted a pic in another thread asking about VU battery life. I was just over 17 hours with about 50% left on battery. It was a weekend and I didn't use my phone much. It just sat idle with WiFi and Bluetooth on if i wasn't talking to someone in the phone. The screen was off for the majority of the time.

You got real suggestions. There was nothing left to be said after the real suggestions.
The real suggestions were and are to accept the battery use you are getting because it's pretty good. The only way you are going to see much better battery life is to invent a new kind of battery.
Now either accept that an enjoy your good battery life or be miserable about it somewhere else.
Oh, I just figured out some of the OP! Had to put punctuation where it belongs to make it a clear, coherent thought. They unplugged their phone at 9:30am and by 1:30pm it only had 61%...
I thought they were saying that they unplugged at 1:30pm and would be at 61% around 9:30pm. Which, from their own description of use, would be phenomenal. But even what they are getting is good.
Maybe if they used correct punctuation and paragraph breaks it would be easier to read and understand what they are trying to convey. It would be one thing to use a bunch of acronyms and shorthand, but periods in the middle of sentences and none at the ends makes what they wrote very hard to understand. The area where extended battery is mentioned is very confusing. I read it as the extended battery was "Showing 130% right now, unplugged; and by 9:30 it gets down to 61% with very heavy usage".

Sealed Battery
I just canceled my upgrade. Swapping out the battery is important to me. And what happens after a year when the battery just doesn't hold a charge very well. I'm disappointed with HTC and we have 4 EVOs in our house. I'll have to see what else is available now. Samsung???
It may only be the need to open the phone, and remove a flex cable, peal the battery out, it may or may not be soldered in, or in a clip. Its very simple, and with ICS and the S4 in the EVO LTE, I am not worried at all, but that's because I also fix phones all day lately.
