Just traded my Droid X for the Inc.. - Droid Incredible General

But oh man..the battery is terrible. Granted I am on the stock battery and Rom/kernel. Where can I get the best deal on an extended battery? Also what the hell is with flashing radios and does cm6 require it?
Ps what is adr6300 down there?
Sent from my ADR6300 using DroidForums App

Yeah, the battery life is horrid but that's because they decided to put in a 1300mah battery into it! wtf?
Comparable phones use the 1500mah battery stock!
Anyways, I bought the HTC OEM 1500mah battery for the incredible and it's like a normal phone. It also fits in with the stock battery door.
Bought it off htcpedia... you can probably find it on ebay for cheaper but i just dont trust ebay anymore.
I actually use the stock kernel now as it's light years better than the stock kernel before the last update.
EDIT: not sure if this is a serious question but the ADR6300 is your phone model.
Also, forgot to mention you are probably new enough to maybe not know about the whole bump charging thing. look it up, it will add a couple hours to your battery life.

I found the 3500 mah batteries (stick out a little in the back, which means they come with a new cover as well) for a good deal on Amazon. I'm not sure if it's within the ToS of this site to include links like this?

yep, i heard the bump charging is both good and bad for the battery. good in the sense it will extend the charge, bad in the sense it will wear the battery out more.

meh... i wouldn't worry about wearing out the battery. there are so many "facts", theories and myths around batteries i really don't care anymore. All I care is about what i experience myself. I stopped bump charging due to laziness.

i skip the unplug part.
i charge until green... turn off phone.. charge till green.
Flashing radios is dangerous and since your dinc is new, i wouldn't worry about it. Stick with the Official radio and just flash different kernels.

that is what i dont get... why do some roms require radios? ie: cm6

you will need a froyo radio for cm6

Yup, in which he already has.
This was only a problem with pre-froyo inc users.
But if you really want to see what it's all about just go for it.
Just remember to back up your SD CARD and check the MD5 sum... and don't forget to pray.

well the X has a better screen and it is noticeably faster when it comes to certain games. running liberty, overlocked/undervolted at 1.1gz on the stock batttery i was getting 2 days of battery life.
the INC has a larger more robust dev community and if that is what you are into, it is a huge plus. there are only so many themes you can flash on the X before getting bored.
sense >>>>>>>> motoblur. the droid x is almost un-useable with the stock software, IMO.

I have had both phones. I like the bigger screen and battery life of the DX, but if you are into modding your phone the Dinc is the way to go!! There are really only two or three roms for the DX. Just in the week or so that I've had my Dinc I am blown away at the level of support!! Dinc FTW!!

Ever since I switched (3 days ago) i've been though 4 roms, (MIUI downloading now) and i'm in love with the Dinc. The x screen was awesome but this amoled screen is crazy! colors are so bright, i love it. and the ability to get more roms is great. also, one other stupid little thing, and this is silly, the way the screen gets marks on it on the x is horrible, the dinc screen seems like no matter how many finger swipes it stays clean. I don't know what the difference is but its nice...

Secondary battery

Has anyone tried buying a non official battery for their MS2 and care to comment or recommend any? Im going on holiday to france and i know my phone wont last a whole day without charging, so I was thinking of buying a second battery.
I read in another forum that using a non-Motorola battery displays some kind of warning. I'd go with an original battery.

using a non-original battery could have detrimental effects on your phone. there was a discussion on this on the forum of another phone. using a non-original battery could lead to leaks and other problems which would eventually lead to the warranty of your phone being voided.
stick with original motorola products. yes the battery might be very underpowered, but its the safest bet to ensure the longevity of ur phone
With a non original battery, the battery indicator of your phone shows a interrogation symbol. Also, it does not charge with the phone charger.
Sorry my analphabet english xD
@Motorola Milestone 2
bp7x 2300mAh battery
I 'm using a non-original battery . The MOMAX and everything's good ,it feels just like the original one except for battery tempperature sensor. the temp is always 26 in celsius
I personally have used seidio for my milestone and it works like a charm, its the extended 2800mah one it really performs like it should and not like how a lot of people claim thats its way less than stock! It does not always read it correctly but a quick reboot fixes that, like 50% after reboot would usually be about 70-80%. They way i used to use my phone (light to moderate level) would last about 2-3 days but after the extended I got twice that and some more. Just make sure you get stuff from the original manufactures either way and don't go for deals at amazon or whatnot as those guys might be selling either defected or not proprely stored stuff. Batteries are critical components don't go cheap on them! And no, my phone has not been messed up or had any leaks or anything and I have this for about 3-4 months now. The original battery degraded in about 6months if you have to compare.
That sounds promising, does the battery need to be charged with an external charger? And does the milestone complain that you are not using the official bettery

reebooting your phone to get the exact picture also works on the standard battery. my question is, does the back part which houses the battery heat up when used? does the phone get hot during charging? do you need a new battery cover for it? and besides the longer usability, have you noticed any other performance issues on the phone?

Actually the rebooting to get the exact picture is not the same here, a jump to 20-30% on a stock battery? I don't think so. No I never encountered any odd behavior with the other battery. No getting extra hot during charge or use, get the typical little bit of heat while using 3G and browsing like mad but that would happen on the stock battery too. Battery cover for a 2800? of course, that stuff is huge! its protrudes like mad! a quick heads up though, the extended battery for the milestone 1 and 2 can use the same extended batteries. Don't know about the droid x though. Anyways, no performance issues, no heat while charging. The back covers supplied by these after market guys are not the best quality though so if you are someone who loves dropping phones and what not would recommed getting a spare back cover from the guys you get the batts from.

No, I use my original charger and no complains or warnings by the phone. Not on the milestone 1 at least. In fact some times i use my ipod's adapter so no big issue. And it charges at the same pace as the stock, additional 1 hour or whatever. restart the phone to getting a proper reading as it shows 100% but upon restart its 70-80% since only the stock level is charged. I hear this app called battery left does great for calibration.
ALSO a thing to note, I only know of Seidio and Mugen to be relialbe after market battery guys hence their hefty pricing at times. The others claiming to have bigger batteries have cheated people with stickers and what not and usually end up underperforming and degrading considerably faster than burning paper! I remember 1USD batteries for nokias back in the day good for a quick one time run i suppose but these 1USD guys are now selling them with a better branding for like 20-40 USD.
Anyways Sedio and Mugen have facebook profiles and keep people posted on the latest on devices usually there, although its kind of sad since seidio have not followed through promised products at times.

Cool but as I suggested try and get them off the manufactures themselves as I have noticed some people complaining when purchased via 3rd party retailers.
Also another bud of mine had picked up one for the Nexus one, that phones back cover is a full one unlike the moto's and he too can vouch for the products positive performance. Either ways also check out some reviews from amazon.com for peace of mind.

https://picasaweb.google.com/105351366297036719015/DropBox?authkey=Gv1sRgCJna6ZH6hLKxzQE
Wifi was on most of the time, I was using my phone for the usual things. Occasionally checking socialfeeds, engadget, xda every hour or so and internet browsing I played 10 minutes of angry bids. Updated some apps and downloaded a few new ones.
Overall not a significant increase in battery life maybe an hour or so more from what I am used to.

Holy Crap this thing is fast

Just got my Atrix this morning..and am loving how blazing fast it really is. This thing has more horse power than any phone I have ever owned..
I'm coming from a tricked out Captivate OC/UV to 1.3 and it pales by comparison..
I'm not just talking benchmarks....but while watching full hd movies..I can pause and fast forward right to where I slide it without any hesitation at all...no pixelation..no stalls..no FC's...no lag at all...I love it..
I don't have it rooted yet..and no custom rom yet..have to wait out the return period first..just in case it goes bonkers..but I gotta say...anyone on the fence about getting it..you really need to look at one..
I can't wait till I get to oc/uv this one..just to see how much smoother it really can be..

Just ran across your post and thought I'd share my impressions on the battery. I just picked up my atrix last week after returning my infuse 4g. My battery is a beast; this morning I pulled it off the charger at 8am and now its 1:46am...I am still at 50%. I am a heavy user and I am definitely surprised how long the battery last me. I am also 100% stock running gingerbread. (Also have juice defender running). If I had my infuse still and pulled it off the charger at 8am it would hit the 50% mark by 12pm.

I've also got to chime in and say this is the best stock android battery experience I've ever had. Lasts all day with moderate usage, with over 60% when I go to bed at night. Even with heavy usage I'm not running low. I don't plug it in at work like I would my nexus one, and I only charge it in the car if I'm running navigation.

Well...considering I was getting fair life with my Captivate...this one just blows it out of the water...so I think I am getting pretty good stats so far...

I'll charge it back up..and see if I get the same amount tonight at work...but I got to say...Moto did right on this one for me..and I am loving it...All the guys at work are miffed...only 2 said I should have held off for the SGSII...and I just laughed...

With all the complaining going on, it's always nice to see people that have everything working and working well.
I am personally extremely satisfied with my self modded stock 2.3.4. The only thing that kind of annoys me is occasional lag of Motoblur. I might just try the Touchwiz port posted somewhere around here while I wait for CM7 final.
Go and install CM7 beta - you'll **** your self with how fast it is.

I'd laugh too, the SGSII apparently has absolutely atrocious battery life. They put it up next to an Infuse 4G with similar usage and such and the Infuse 4G took the cake. I think the Infuse's battery life is horrid, if the SGSII is worse I'll stick with my 30+ hour Atrix!!
Great to hear you guys are enjoying your new Atrices! As for me, i got mine the first day it came out luckily since everyone was so hesitant on getting it! As for the battery life, when i first got it, i would get 16+ hours on heavy phone usage over 8+ hours and with continuous wifi and data when i wasn't in the house.
Only when i started messing around with it by flashing different psuedo-roms did i notice that the battery life was shortened dramatically, so heads up to you new guys, dont forget to wipe your battery stats everytime you flash a new rom!

Got an Infuse and loved the size of the screen.
Had it for a few weeks and thought the size began to become annoying for things like my car cradle, pocket, etc. but I thought it was neat.
Wife's upgrade become available and she didn't like the size of the Infuse, so I told her to get an Atrix cause of the power (was Infuse, Atrix or Inspire and the Atrix made the most sense).
We got the wife's phone on Thursday. I went home, got her a different launcher, set up the stuff she would like on her phone, etc. She loved it. So did I.
It made my Infuse feel like it was running in slow motion. I played with my wife's phone for literally 20-30 minutes setting it up for her.
The next day, as soon as I got off work, I took mine back (had a week left in my 30 days), got my Atrix and (after having to take it back and get a replacement as my first one rebooted constantly) haven't looked back.
I can't believe this thing.
I was talking with a couple guys at work that had them..they got them when they first come out...they had battery issues too..but..I have had other phones with bad batteries before...and just this year .and went through 2 on my Captivate and a new charger...so..If you got one that the battery doesn't last long on..go get a new battery for it..Many folks over look this..and blame custom roms or the phones themselves for bad battery life..Just a FYI for those who have had bad luck with them..
Mac
I recently bought a used Atrix and it had 2.3.4 already installed on it. Coming from a Captivate, I was immediately impressed with the blazing speed of the device. The first day, I ran the phone hard. After 14-hours it was down to about 20%. The display had been on for over 3-hours and I had more than 2-hours of phone calls.
Simply awesome. BL is unlocked and rooted but rom is stock.

Let the phone die then charge it while the phone is off. Once the LED turns green leave it in the charger for another 2 hours or so. The turn it on and download battery calibration app and run that. Do that a couple times and you'll be good!

Its really very hard to save any
battery while screen gaming.. But overall battery life should be better after this.

I just got done with my first full drain on both of my Anker batteries that I purchased, I honestly only bought them because they are a slightly bigger mAh and it came with 2 and a external charger so I could charge both at the same time, this way I can go super hardcore usage all the time, and never fear of battery... I still barely need the second one.. But still it will still depend on what you're needs/expectations from this particular device are.. I don't use a PC for anything.. Since my father does not like me on it, I type school papers on my phone sometimes and everything, so I rely on my phone to be there.
So
maybe just use the phone for a week and gauge what your going to need, also keep an eye on those partial wake percentages found in spare parts, or betterbatterystats on the market (not free :/)
As those wakes amount to some battery wastes.
Hopefully you can sift through this and grab some info any other questions i'm here.

wow thanks alot and yeah i just got Juice Defender ultimate i am learning how to use it
i also heard from a friend who has nice youtube videos on roms and flashing he talked about the MIUI ROMs i red up on them and how they have a custom kernel with built in battery saving tweaks that are applied when installed so cool
also I red that task killers are bad and can mess up phone in long run
i am using CM7.0.3 now what ROM are you using?
i am also on my first drain battery was on zero now its doing the full charge now so after this i should be able to do normal use now with juice defender i hope it works well
but wow you really max your phone what is the mAh on your batteries and how much was it?

I think they are advertised with 1700 mAh ... There right around 1400 but its two of them which is why I got em. I think 26$ for the while thing. Amazon, would you like the link?
Yes TJD's MIUI has a lot of battery improvements, I use that but I just can't get myself to like the MIUI because I guess it is like the iPhone too much. I am currently running CM 7 nighties because I love the cm thing, always have, I like the royal ginger 3.0 but doesn't seem like team royal is on that ship anymore. :/ shame, its a very fast ROM!

thanks those are the ones i was looking at and i think the white ones by Anker are the 1700 mAh the reviews in this alot of people say its 1400mAh I really want a 1700mAh if I am buying lol
and cool i will keep looking into MIUI was there still a big need to get new batteries using that ROM or you just see your battery getting weak period?
and with the battery improvements in MIUI does that mean gaming with cut the rope samurai 2 and fruit ninja will kill battery less?
This morning was last step in the battery calibration and battery is on 94% been on 1 hour and 31 mins with no calling at all just text and one reboot to fix some settings in juice defender I have no data coming to my phone at all till next week when new biling cycle starts but I am not sure if this is a good reading if the battery is good or not not sure
But when I opened setcpu the mhz was up to 1000mhz I had to set it to 768mhz and scaling back to conservative.
wow during this reply 2 texts came in and battery is at 93% not sure what to do I am thinking of recalibrating the battery before either buy a new battery or try MIUI what you think is best?

Always go with the cheapest option first, MIUI, then if you need to get batteries do so.. Yes? I don't pay an extreme amount of attention to percentage, I actually prefer to look at the graphical battery because as long as I have 15% I'll b ok, and it makes it seem like it is going down slower (;
Edit:::: I am at 96% been up since 6AM when I booted up after I took it off the charger, same oc settings as previously mentioned, but in editing this post went down to 95
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
hey sorry for late replay
and ok cool i will do MIUI tomorrow and recalibration it also lol will do it that day cuz i will see my father and he likes iphones it would b cool to go from CM7 to MIUI in front of his eyes lol but i think i might need a new batrery cuz i am now thinking back and i had a motorla cliq with blur and it was a brand new phone with new batt and all I used the cm7 nightly I loved it just hate the random reboots but battery was beautiful also gaming was cool also
I think but I will get the anker 1700mah
and I didn’t see your oc settings I also red that MIUI doesn’t need to b oc or anything its set automatically
and is your nightlys stable?
Nightly seems stable and I'm at 1700 oc ondemand kernal is TDJ
Miuidoesnt need anything changed

Well, I use Smart Keyboard PRO, because the only people I text are my gf and parents.. I call friends.. so I don't need the speedy responses this helps me pick suggestions way before I type the words. I own Swiftkey but hardly use it, for I lack the time to allow it to learn my style.. swype just doesn't jive with typing in passwords and such. I hardly have problems with SKP have used it since it was Cyril's little project when it debuted.
Now you can download the original android keyboard if you wanted to on the market I think its from Steven Lin or something... what exactly r u looking for in a keyboard?
Yea "Droid does" huh?
If you came from the iPhone I suggest using MIUI as it is like IOS a bit more then AOSP, as I'm sure u can tell.
But that's the beauty of Nandroids, don't like it? Messed up? Restore!

I seriously flashed 4 roms today, two twice since posting my percentage this morning... heavy usage the entire day, texted the entire time, and total of like 10 hours Display time... 100% brightness - 40% and I'm at 38% battery right now after finally subsiding in the CM nightlies again. I guess sense isn't my thing. And the other aosp Roms are all on like 2.3.4
Nightlies r on 2.3.7
So I guess what I'm saying is I can make it thru a whole day with extreme usage
I hope I helped somehow with everything u had a question on so far. Don't hesitate to ask anything else, I am always surfing XDA at school because I lack the interest required for note taking
Edit for typo

it could be the stock screen protecter on but I like smart keyboard pro just that its less responsive then the htc sense keyboard you know the standard keyboard with white hollow oval letter and the predictions are in rectangular oval style above looks smooth would send you a youtube link
But from you telling me your heavy usage plus switching roms I think its my battery I will flash MIUI hopefully today
and see from there and I don’t like sense earlier just feels weird I use launcher pro
And with the nightlys being 2.3.7 how come you find battery better? i am kinda confused i know games kill battery fast but what about calling n internet wifi yesterday those really hurt my battery
Also with my moto cliq I was using nightly as well I might try one do you know a safe nightly that doesn’t random reboot?
And your helping big time you have the same phone and your rooted and alls so I like the info you have shared with me thanks

Breathing life back into your Epic, IT's ALIVE!!!

So you may be getting tired of waiting for an official Gingerbread release on your Epic 4g, well I'm here to help you get more life out of your phone. If you weren't aware of some of the things I'm about to mention, these will help I'm sure.
First off I have to mention the CM port that Decad3nce and others are working on CM7 2.3.7 (cyanogen mod). I love this ROM, its not 100% yet but its getting there faster every day it seems.
Second up we have MIUI, based on AOSP GB this is another great ROM being lead by xboxfanj and Ksmullins along with several others, love this also, but I'm more a CM guy I guess. Either of these ROMs will give you a great taste of AOSP Gingerbread with minimum errors, both still in beta form, but I would say stable enough for most to be considered a "daily driver".
Also another great way to help put some life back into the Epic is by using/buying an OEM 1800mah battery from the Epic Touch 4g (epic comes with a 1500mah batt) , this is a 20% increase in battery life while still maintaining the original back and the slim form factor. This is not a must have, but it really helps. Be aware that the battery is not 100% the same, but it is 99.99% the same
And one last thing to keep in mind, we have a keyboard, this alone keeps the phone at the top in my opinion (and many others I'm sure), so for me I'm still very happy with this phone, and the prospects for the future look amazing also.
We still have some great devs working for use folks, with new devs/coders/chiefs jumping onboard everyday it seems; We are far from the end of this phones epic tale of glory.
I see nothing but great things to come from the devs here on XDA going forward. So don't let the wait for an official release get you down, there are plenty of things to help cheer you up, just the people alone here make me happy
Our phone is still alive! We wont go down without a fight. Lol

We have another couple of options.
Flashing the EH17 stock rom, then adding the mkasick compiled kernel gives you a stock GB experience without the reboots or the keyboard skipping. At least it's been perfect for me. Using EH17 before that kernel I would get reboots almost immediately.
Looks like toadlife took this concept and ran with it on his rom, which is basiclly EH17 with mkasicks kernel, Necrosan's Hotspot Hack and hienkhieu's GPS Fix.
Why wait for GB, this one feels like a stock GB but better.

Ebay, 23$, don't pay more, it had free shipping also, the real deal OEM Epic Touch 4g 1800mah

Look in mkasicks thread, and see if his kernel supports it. Then look at the nubernel kernel. Maybe those work.

PM Sent for ya.
Got the battery on Friday, been using it all weekend, very satisfied. Its ever so slightly heavier than the stock 1500 ma battery, but is exactly the same size, I wouldnt have known it was any different, fits the same, back plate fits back on the same, and its enough extra juice to really make a difference. Typically by the end of the day im out of battery, and with this I got a little extra to spare, even if I have used battery heavy stuff like wifi and gps. Its not a miracle, and it doesnt last as long as the 3000 innocell i have (lol of course), but the fact that its stock size is excellent. I give it 5/5, very satsified. Recommend this for ANYONE with this an Epic. No drawbacks, all benefits.

Have you ever dropped your phone in water at all? Maybe you have a bad battery, because those battery stats are worse than even running complete stock. Post all of your info, Hboot, radio, kernel, etc. And hopefully we can help you out with your issue.
Hboot: .92
Kernel: Tinys gingersense 11/19
Radio : 2.15.00.0808
And no never dropped it in water
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible using xda premium
that sounds unreasonably bad. I'm on Joelz Prime, too, but I think only up to R40. I doubt there's anything in those last few commits to cause this, though. Try re-flashing, wiping battery stats, and give it a few cycles then reevaluate things. What apps are shown in the "Battery Use" settings menu?
Failing that, could be some hardware issue causing a short or something that's draining things... There have been cases where water or other damage can kill the battery life. Good luck.
I reflashed 3 times and still horrible battery life .
Water never got on my phone .
And in battery use nothing major is running . Except like display, os ect.

I've been using Joelz XL 4.0r42 for a few days now and I can say battery life is a little worse than 3.9, but not down to 3 hours. I change overnight, disconnect at 7:30am and charge again at 11pm. But that is with 5 or less calls, 10 texts, and emailing only.
Could email be on push? Did you try the power settings under tweak? I have tried normal and performance and see no difference. Someone said that one of the widgets was killing performance in an earlier post (in the PrimeXL thread), maybe the same widget is killing the battery too?

I dunno, then... try leaving it in Airplane mode for a little while, to see if it's something radio, etc.-related. otherwise, something's probably wrong with a hardware element somewhere along the line. I hope you're able to solve the issue.

I've read a tip to do this:
-get battery full before installing ROM
-wipe battery stats and flash new ROM
-Let it settle in, set it up a bit, then fill up the battery again
-go back to Recovery and wipe stats again, while it's full.
I'm not clear on the logic behind it - could be somebody's superstitions - but it's not a difficult step to take in the hopes that it does some good.
there are others who said they run a script at shut down to wipe them every time the phone reboots. Seems like everyone has their little tricks.
This may be a long shot, but my guess would be some kind of internal hardware issue. Maybe there's a problem with the micro USB port and it's not actually fully charging the batteries.
Shut the phone off and charge it till the lights green. And if you want any kind of battery life, sense is not the rom to be on. Especially 3.5.

There are tons of things that effect battery life and tons of things to save battery. Underclocking, undervolting, lengthning time between syncs, increasing wifi scan interval, lowering screen brightness, keeping running services to a minimum. However even with your phone set to max performance settings with all the bells and whistles on, you should still get more than 3 hours out of a charge. If multipul batteries give the same results, i would say its hardware related, or your charger is messed up and its not charging or messing up the batteries.
I wiped battery stats andseeing where that leads me
Right now when I wiped it and I played modern combat 2 for an hour and my percent is 61
So ill say imma get 2 hours out of my batt?
Hey I see progress !
