Best price on the 101?

Whats the best price anyone has found the 101 at? I found it for $298 at some Mac mail order company but they were out of stock. I wanted to get my woman on for Valentines Day but I really didnt want to pay over $300 for it.
I got mine for $298 with free shipping and a $25 gift card from J&R bringing it to $273...but that was during the holidays and I had to wait like 8 weeks to get it.
Yea, J&R is out of them again.
After searching for a place that just had them in stock for weeks, I finally was able to order one direct from archos yesterday. I am receiving the 8gb model today . It was 299.00 plus 30.00 for overnight shipping.
In December Amazon had them for $299.. free shipping.. I wouldn't pay more than $350.
I got mine off Amazon last week for $349.99 for 16GB with overnight shipping for $3.99 (shipping cheap due to my Prime membership). The next day they was up to $415.99.
So do I win a prize for getting mine for only $273? Seems I got the best price of the people that frequent this forum.
I think the Archos website store is now the best deal.. 101 16G for $349
https://store.archos.com/archos-internet-tablet-p-5005.html
It seems the demand is so high for these that they can't make them fast enough.
I have done a lot of research on Android tablets and the Archos 101 definitely gives you the most bang for the buck! There are a lot of cheaper tablets out there, but they don't have capacitive touch displays and/or cut corners on other specs. Even with the newer tablets coming out that have Honeycomb and dual core aren't as good of a deal.. $700 for a tab is way too much.. worth buying an Archos 101 now and waiting a couple of years for the newer dual core tabs to come down in price.

Yeah, but then there will be something new like Android Pudding version and quad core processors tablets which will make a dual core running Honeycomb seem stupid and slow.
If you want cutting edge you are going to have to pay the price (which will be $700-900) or you have to come to the stark realization that the cutting edge isn't that much sharper than the other edges. In which case the Archos 70 and 101's are the biggest bang for the buck in in the near future.
I got it from 270€ at Madrid, Spain, from an Archos wholesale.

I don't think that Android will ever need more than two cores.. Tablets are fairly new.. Netbooks have been around for a few years and the hardware hasn't changed.

And Bill Gates said that no computer will every need more than 640k RAM! But I keed, I keed....
Honestly, I gave up trying to predict where technology will go because I am always wrong. Back in the day I said the internet will fail because who on earth would pay money to do what you can already do for free with BBS systems? I thought the iPad would fail for the same reason many did...it was just a big iTouch, what's the point? I thought Netflix wouldn't last because isn't it easier and more satisfying to just get your video when you want it, the day you want it, etc instead of having to "plan out" your entertainment and hope you feel like that kind of movie the day it arrives?
So yeah...it's easier to say you don't see it going past dual core, but seriously...who would have ever thought a phone would need dual core as well...yet they are coming.
Never underestimate the power of people who want to be parted from their money just to have something better than their neighbors and friends.

Nook HD+ for $60 (YMMV)

Just want to share this for others who may want a cheap usable tablet. It has an older processor but a FHD screen which is nice.
Office Max has it on clearance for $60 but not a lot of stores have it probably. I managed to get it price matched with Best Buy.

Joying vs Generic

For US market
Been researching Android headunits for a while now. Trying to find the best value (<$300). On ebay it seems like there are a ton of brandless options for 150-200 but from what I can tell Joying is a 'name brand' in this space. Is it worth spending a little more for one of theirs?
I have my eye on the JY-UL124. Worth $270 with no DVD (don't need) and no included backup camera?
Yeah I have my eye on a few too, but on Amazon. I have read good things about Joying too. I wonder how it compares to Pumpkin and EinCar, those look good too.
I made the mistake of buying one in the 150-200 range. It was listed as having android 4.4.4, quad core 1.6ghz processor and no cd/dvd. I used cpu-z and found it actually had an a7 at 1ghz and said two cores were turned off. I returned it and bought a JY-UL124. They change the prices daily on ebay. I did a best offer and got it for $240 shipped. I should receive it in a couple of weeks.
i have researched this for over a year. Joying seems to be the way to go for USA. Even if for nothing else, they go through Amazon and have a good return policy. The others offer returns, but you have to pay to ship it to wherever.
I have researched this over XDA and Reddit and various forums, everyone gets bad reviews here and there, but Joying seems to get the more positive reviews. RoadNavi and Eonon get good reviews on XDA too, but the return policy seems the best with Joying USA and Doctorman
The Malaysk Firmware is greate !
I use it on a Joying JY-UL124 RK3188 with MTCD 5.1.1

quick comparison T580 vs T590

I was really happy when I bought my T580. Now today I bought a T590 and ... not so much
All in all, I'm a bit disappointed. For the money, I wonder if there are better options.
I don't remember the exact price I paid for the old one but it was < $200 so I felt I couldn't spend the same and get a two year old tablet..hence the T590 ..but so far..I'm less than impressed...

In my opinion if you can find the 2016... under $200 and $100 < T590... I'd save the $100 or something else.
the S4 is just really high for me...
I was happy with my T580 but ... the screen is no longer displaying anything now..
the T590 just doesn't seem like two years of technical evolution ... it's certainly no revolution :silly:
I kinda bricked my LG Pad and ATM I'm looking to choose between those two...
I found a 10.1 at 161 € and a 10.5 at 220 € so only 59 € difference... I guess that should pay for the 3 Gb of RAM instead of 2 GB (both have 32 Gb storage) and the USB-C...
Btw, is battery life similar? or is it better on the 10.1? (as I read on some reviews).

First, I don't know if your 10.1 is different, or not, but the U.S. one 2016 model that I had, had only 2GB ram and micro usb. Might find the UK samsung site and check those specs.
From the links in my post above, it looks about the same. I haven't had the T590 long enough to judge and frankly, I never kept track on the T580. Some apps can eat it quick. Personally, if I find the most apps work on LineageOS, I'll use it or at a minimum root it, and just the control over running apps should extend the battery.

I've owned several T580s and just bought another one, used, for $99 including shipping. I'm thinking about a 590 simply because in is a later model and might get more attention from devs in the future.
I sold my last T580 a few month ago in favor of a Hipad I got for what I sold the T580. The Hipad has higher spec than the T590 but there isn't much XDA activity for it. I missed trying out new ROMs every about every other week , so I just bought another T580. Can't have too many tablets.
I really don't understand why Samsung even bothered releasing the 2018 version of Tab A 10.5 since it came with Snapdragon 450 and same old LPDDR3 RAM. The Snapdragon 450 uses 8xA53 ARM cores, just like the Exynos SoC in the 2018 model. Their performance must be identical, which is confirmed by single core geekbench 4 scores, both in low 700s.
The way I see it, the only significant improvement is that 2018 model finally can have stereo sound in the landscape mode, instead of firing "left" and "right" sound all from one side. Neither seems to have the DRM to play Netflix in HD, which is a big fault in a tablet with a wide aspect ratio screen.
The 2019 model SM-T510 seems to fix the issue by finally moving to a CPU configuration with 4xA73 + 4xA53 cores and LDDDR4 SDRAM. The 32GB model comes with only 2GB of RAM, but 64GB model comes with 3GB.
In order to make the matters even more confusing for consumers, most of whom are not aware of these specs differences, all three Tab A models with 10+ inch screens are available in the USA market. Walmart and Sam's Club sell ONLY the 2016 model as of a couple of weeks ago, the Amazon sells the 2018 model, and the Best Buy stores sell only some kind the 2019 Tab A SM-t510 models. What a mess really.
$99 T580
I received my T580 yesterday afternoon. For $99 I expected it to show some signs of wear but was pleasantly surprised to find it in like new condition. So far I've had fun installing three different ROMs on it. The cheapest T510 I found was double the price and it was the 32bit version. So long as the devs keeping supporting the T580, I just don't think the 2019 models add enough to warrant the price difference.
I just bought my sm-t590 at Walmart in the store for 199 it was under a stack of t580s and they all looked the same I asked about the 580 it was 179 and only 16gb and 590 was 32gb for 20 more dollars. I had to dig to find it never heard of the new tab A until I found it the other day. I have been using my tab pro 8.4 since 2014 and paid 249 for it and I am definitely impressed with the new tab A 10.5 value with what I got! The sm-t590 is a nice tablet!

The T590 is the 2018 version. The 2019 is T510. The cheapest I see for the T590 at Walmart is $214 for a refurbished tablet. I much prefer my like new T580 for $99. And with the 2019 available, it don't think many devs will be looking to buy and develop for the 2018. Just my two cents worth.

The 2019 tab a was not yet in stock at the Walmart store. I did look online for tabs the best deal for a new tablet with storage and size was the one I bought at walmart for $199 the sm-t590. They had 580 and 590 and yes I know the sm-t590 is the 2018 version, also it has been said that the 590 should receive pie but I don't really care about that much if they send it or not. My note 8 is still on 7.1.1.

Who cares what Samsung releases. I've got 4 different version of 64bit Pie installed on my T580.:good::good:
I returned the sm-t590 to walmart I had it for 29 days and the screen went dead called Samsung and they were not even willing to help me get a return label, so I pleaded with Walmart to take it back even though only 15 days for tabs return policy, but manager let me exchange it for sm-t510 man does it move much quicker in touch and browsing videos etc. I almost was screwed! Never buying from Walmart again!

WHICH TO BUY? PX5 based unit or MTK 8227L based unit?

Looking to buy a unit for a 2010 Prius, with factory JBL amp.
Looks my options are a PX5 unit. Most of the units being offering on Aliexpress seem to be units mfg by Klyde. Some of the newer models seem to include an IPS screen. I have the option of purchasing a car play/android auto dongle or getting either (but not both)included in the unit itself. The cost of buying a unit with free shipping seems to be around $30 more then paying for shipping separately. Am I missing something? The only thing I can think of, if the unit has to be returned I doubt my original shipping costs will be refunded. I can purchase up to 4 Gig RAM 64 Gig ROM.
Other option seems to be a unit based on MTK 8227L. Looks like it's only available 2Gig RAM 16 Gig ROM.
My googling suggests the PX5 is the better choice.
Am I missing anything? Is it worth paying an extra few dollars for an IPS screen.
Is klye a decent mfg? Any suggestions on what reseller might make the most sense. Top 1 Multimedia store? Yifoum? AliKD multimedia store? Other resellers seem to have much lower customer ratings.
Thank you for any input. Googling and searching only gets me so far.
Hey there,
for which one did you end up deciding? Are you satisfied?
Cheers,
RT
