Htc desire z not playing videos wth hardware coding - G2 and Desire Z General

Does anyone know why? Causeit use to work before but now it doesn't. I have to use software coding and the videos lag.
Thanks.

So is it Just me with the problem?

some video formats doesn't support hardware coding...
try another format (by converting it, not renaming it), and put hw for video, and sw for sound

Desire Z HW accel. works only up to 720p and 30fps with max level 3.1 (h.264).

From your avatar and location, it would seem your are on ICS. Since ICS is a port, and lots of hardware aspects needed to be hacked together, I imagine this may be the issue. Do you mean the movies played before you flashed ICS? Or they worked on ICS, and now they don't?
I have had the issue on my Flyer, where it seems like there is some problem with the hardware codecs working correctly (using Rock Player). Then I reboot, and they work fine again. If you haven't tried to reboot, that may help.

How do you choose HW for video, but SW for the sound? I ask because I have a lot of videos that will play back full speed, but with no/bad sound! How????

Some more background would really help. What ROM? Have you switched ROMs recently at all, or made any other changes? What player are you using.
You haven't really given us anything to go on.

No but it was to work fine on mx player I tried other ones but dame result.

Man still not working. Could this be cause ur phone gets too hot?

Um, no. Not unless you're putting your phone in the oven or its really really hot in your house.
It is odd that it was working before, and not now. Are you sure nothing else has change in the meanwhile (installed any apps)? And the exact same videos that worked before, right? Have you tried uninstalled your player, and re-installing it?

absolute best VIDEO player for honeycomb?

So far i have tried rockplayer and moboplayer....rockplayer had a lot of FC's because I don't think it was compatible, plus the video playback kinda sucked
I recently tried Moboplayer and it works great...even saves where you left of on multiple videos
is there anything better? Thank you
i swear by rock player, not an issue yet. Maybe try reinstalling? Other than that, what does it need to be able to play?

Moboplayer seems to have a lot more downloads, hence popularity
I mainly use rockplayer and the stock one......
Both are made by the same dev of believe. Mobo is much better than rock however. Be sure and have the latest codec pack installed.

Mobo player doesn't dim (and by dim I mean turn them into small dots) the os buttons and time at the bottom, this is the sole reason I am considering uninstalling it, but I haven't found one to beat it yet.
Does it "dim" for anyone else?

I like the way control volume, brightness on moboplayer.
Feature-wise Moboplayer still has a lot of room for improvement. But in terms of codec support and performance (some stuff that wasn't smooth on other players played smooth as silk on Moboplayer), MoboPlayer is my favorite.

yea same here...its very neat
Mobo doesn't play very smoothly in software mode for 720p content... Unfortunately the Xoom doesn't playback enough formats natively so software mode is a necessity...
I swear by MoboPlayer as well, though sometimes I drop back to RockPlayer Lite just to see how it handles things. Love how Mobo remembers where you've left off regardless of how many movies/videos you've watched in between.
On the other side of the spectrum is mVideoPlayer, it has an awesome interface but only supports stock Xoom codecs. They recently updated to support sub/idx support for subs, but that whole stock codec only support kind of ruins it for me. I use this for any YouTube videos pulled w/ TubeMate.
I tested QQPlayer as well, it's not too bad but I was really searching for subtitle support so I could enjoy foreign flicks on the road. It didn't really offer much aside from srt support, but I figure I'll keep it in the hopes it'll see more development in terms of sub support (I believe it's developed in China or Korea, so sub support would have a higher priority).
any players allow you to make playlists? I like to fall asleep with a few episodes of stuff in the background
FWIW -- QQPlayer plays everything that I need it to play....
Vital Player is the best player on honeycomb I love you can turn the volume just using the screen.Same goes for brightness & full and widescreen.Vital Player updates regularly.

Why not keep it there? {Rom} {GalnetMIUI 1.11.7} {ICS 4.0.1} {11-7-11}
Yes, just saw it.
This line will keep me away from it,
The bad news is that the MIUI ROM comes with heavy UI customization and it won’t let you enjoy the ICS UI novelties, but that’s not necessarily a bad news.

Well, MIUI is good, using ICS as base in MIUI is great but proper ICS on Galaxy S2 will be a whole new experience. Waiting for someone to port it to SGS2.

I just flashed this rom and I'm loving it. I've been using it for 2 hours and I love the MIUI features. It's like Cyanogenmod, but less nerdy and seems to offer better/more functionality.
What I love most is that the Flashlight will start from simply holding the 'Home' button at your lock screen.
Makes it super smooth to enable/disable flashlight, as it disables when you let go the home button.
If you don't like the MIUI launcher, use Go Launcher or some other instead.
I couldnt get used to the MIUI because it places all your apps on your homescreens. I'm sure you could get used to this, but I don't feel like it.
DEFINATELY TRY IT THOUGH! It's butter-smooth.
Just remember to make a Back-up of your current ROM using CWM
Usual stuff that have bugs/dont work:
1080p recording
Video playback (avi, mpg, mkv, etc)
This rom with ics theme and ics launcher will be sweet
downloading now =)
i am kinda addicted to cyanogen cause of the settings menu, but i think ill survive
Sadly i cannot change my Beautiful widgets skin
oh well

Correct me if I'm wrong.
But MIUI is based on Cyanogenmod correct?
If so, some files don't work. From my testing, x264 encoded files don't work, as do some files downloaded from Youtube.
For those that have installed, can you try using Tubemate to download the 1080p version of the Battlefield 3 launch trailer and see if it works? Thanks.
Giving it a go myself tomorrow morning. Gonna sleep now.
Preformance test gave me score of 2900, and this should be with 2 duel core? Loled they just make this up to attract people's attention. Its sure not ICS based rom.

720p video playback in ICS worse than HC

I saw there was a thread kind of about this but that got derailed...
I'm using Dice Player, MX Player, and BS Player. BS seems to work the best, but still not as good as Dice was back in HC.
Does anyone know if it's just a matter of those apps having to be optimized for ICS?

Well it's not ICS that is killing some 720P file, it's the Tegra...
i find ICS a lot better than HC, but still unable to play high profile 720p mkvs without lag.
DicePlayer is even worse than honeycomb though. MX and BS player are barely watchable.

I confirm the same, Bsplayer plays the audio but not the video . As for the Dice it always crashes ! I will lnstall Revolution HD 3 and see if this will play the 720p videos !!!
all those having issues- you need to reboot.
also bare in mind that video playback issues are not the OS's fault, Tegra 2 is underpowered to play video at 720p and 1080p, always has been, always will be.

me too, you need to do an ICS reinstall, my video playback is the same as on revolver now.
rebooted around a dozen times between lockups and just actual reboots, i've noticed no difference in any app.
i find it strange that people seem to have very different experiences than me. i have no issues getting them to play, it's just the lag.

There was a thread somewhere about best settings for Handbrake for encoding mp4 to suit the Transformer. These are the settings:
"Start with the Regular/Normal Preset
Container: MP4 File
On the Video tab, choose:
Video Codec: H.264
Constant Quality: RF 24 (Lower number is better quality but higher file size, I wouldn't suggest going lower than 20 in this case)
On the audio tab change the Mixdown to "Stereo", bitrate 160
On the Advanced Tab:
Maximum B-Frames: 0
Uncheck "CABAC Entropy Coding"
Uncheck "8x8 Transform"
Uncheck "Weighted P-Frames"
After those changes, you can save these by clicking on Presets -> Save Preset and name it something like "Transformer". "
This is an exact quote of the post, I don't have the original on hand to thank the original poster. But he does deserve my thanks, as this made 720p video beautiful on my FT101.
Doesn't work so well when streamed via wifi, I think 802.11G is a little too slow, maybe I need to go to 802.11N. Works fine via a portable hard disk, or a microSD card, or even a USB stick. If you have the dock or the usb converter adaptor thingy.
Sorry for those who don't have access to a grunty PC for converting using handbrake, I guess my post isn't much help to you. I'm waiting until I get my TF101 back from a warranty repair to try a few things out, including ICS. I'm currently running Revolver, and I'm VERY happy with it.. kudos GNufabio.

well one person got reported for being a douche.
and yes, i'm well aware of how to flash a rom.
most of us here however are running stock ICS from the update with no root or anything like that. So simply saying reinstall ICS is not a very intelligent statement.
If i have an issue with my nexus i know how to back it up and reinstall because i have CWM installed.
however on this, as i just said, i'm running a totally stock device. i've never rooted, never installed a custom recovery, and i don't want to.
and personally, i also think the suggestion of installing ICS is BS and won't make a difference.
anyway, thank you @squire-au for that. i have seen that post and have been hoping there would be another way since totally encoding can take a very long time. but i will be testing that out overnight to see what happens.

Video playback in cm9

Hey guys!! First post but im daily xda atrix forum visitor. Anyway, I installed the new cm9 beta 5.0 yesterday. It works great and I love it (thanks jokersax!!). I have been goin back and forth between cm9 and cm7 for the past 3 months. I love cm9 but there was always a couple a nagging issues that prevented it from being my daily, therefore, I always reverted to çm7. I thought this version cm9 was going to be my daily; up until an hour ago. Playback of videos are bjorked. Videos that have been working perfectly fine in previous versions of cm9 are so sloe and choppy in 5.0.
Sorry for the long post but any advice would be appreciated. Btw I spent the last hour searching the boards and Google but did not find anything. Sorry in advance if this has been posted before.
TIA!!!

Use MX Player with software decoding. Hardware video decoding on ICS is borked until we get proper drivers.
OK thanks! I figured that was the case. The only reason I asked is that I could've sworn playback was working on previous versions on cm9. OK thanks bro!!
On a side note. What is the video recording app everyone is using since thats been borked for a while and does Skype video chat work?

Hmmm... I'm getting fairly good results with MX Player. But I re-encode my videos for the Atrix's screen size (max. 960x540, if source is smaller, keep source resolution). 720p (and up) movies are still choppy. I guess our CPU can't handle decoding HD resolution movies using software only.

Installing different players is great, but have you tried MX Player WITH the Arm v7 Codec (on the market as well)? Most vids play flawlessly for me with that setup. Also do what Kameirus said and check the ROM thread for fixes, and it would also help to tell us which ROM and what version of that ROM you're on.
