Tethering your Kindle Fire - Kindle Fire General

I am using an application that I purchased from Android Apps from Amazon.
Wifi Explorer Pro v.1.6.3, It work fantistac. I just dial in the 4.com from my web browser on my computer, and voila I am looking the the directory structure on my Kindle Fire, no strings "usb tether" attached.
With this very handy app, I can create, delete, and move directories. Upload and or download files, pictures, vidoe's and applications.
This should be very handy for the time's that when you new rom will not connect while tethered, you can use wifi to connect.

When downloading books I can't get it to download directly to Kindle folder...

Hey guys,
Everytime I download a .mobi file (not through amazon) it always tries to automatically open with my app snesoid and then says it isn't a rom. When I try to use dropbox to transfer files, dropbox tells me it doesn't have a suitable viewer to read it.
I have to manually transfer the file into the kindle folder using a micro-usb wire and then it'll show up in the docs and kindle folder making it readable by the kindle app.
Tried ireader, but it always force closes on me. So my question is, how can I set it up so that anything ending up in .mobi is opened by the Kindle reader app? I'm using Go Ex Launcher and also got File Explorer as an alternative when I'm not near my laptop to do manual transferring.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Try making snesoid NOT the default program for mobi files. Sounds like it is.

[Q] USB file transfer speeds!??

Hi,
Has anyone else noticed very slow USB file transfer speeds (like USB 1.0 ?) in Windows 7?
I have been copying movies and TV episodes to watch on the KF and was wondering if I broke anything by rooting etc... or if this speed was to be expected (seems ridicilous for modern hardware).
If this is a USB driver issue is there a workaround i.e. installing a different driver for the device in device manager?
Or alternatively an easy and FAST way to transfer files between the KF and Windows 7?
Thanks
This is a well known issue.
See here for the details: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amazon-kindle-fire-review,3076-11.html
Possibly can be fixed in a future update/mod as it's not a fundamental hardware bottleneck.
Anyway it's actually much faster to transfer via wifi! I use Dropbox to get files onto my Fire (it's an easy side load that be downloaded direct from the Dropbox website onto the Fire).
Do you know of any wifi file explorer options, i.e., use wifi to see folders on another computer for download?
Thanks.

I use cifsManager. It's available on the Android Market. But first you need the cifs kernel module. You can get it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396960
And, here's a nice little tutorial on how to get this done: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397461

I can see my network shares over wifi with Astro and with File Expert, both file explorers.
Dropbox is pretty handy too!
If you want to do it from the Kindle, you can point ES File Explorer (free) to your share. Use the LAN tab.
right - best choice - i use es file exlorer to stream from other devices (computer,nas,...)
with file expert you can activate a built in ftp or http server and you can stream from your kindle - really easy !

USB troubles? Easy Fix

I have had a NUMBER of issues with USB Connectivity with my new Kindle Fire HD on Windows. All I really wanted to do was drop some APKs in on my piece...but Windows made that very difficult.
For some newer people, there is an application for 99cents called WIFI FILE EXPLORER PRO. The app provides an IP number and through this you can upload files and pictures to your Kindle Fire HD.
Hope this helps - I know that when I started with the whole rooting and modding bit, these small types of tidbits helped. :good:
ES File Explorer can do everything you need. And it's free.
It has a built-in FTP server that, paired with built-in wifi, allows you to easily copy files to your KFHD using any FTP program. Once all the files are there, you can then use ES again to for example move the APKs to /system/app (assuming you're rooted and have remounted /system read-write, which it can do as well.)
I just use dropbox.. free cloud service.

NST is it possible to use a phone/tablet to sideload books?

Hi,
Is it possible to use a phone or tablet as GUI to manage a NST to load, delete, organize the library?
I think not but thought I could ask, who knows?

I have used an app called WiFi File Transfer. It works through a browser page, allowing you to manipulate both folders and files. The free version is limited to 5 MB max. for a file, not typically a problem with e-books. On my Nook Tablet screen it is doable. I can always zoom in. On a little phone it would be difficult I think.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer
Edit: I thought of another possibility but had to do some struggling to make it work. This website helped me iron out the kinks.
ES File Explorer includes both an FTP server and FTP client option. The server option is hidden in the Settings section for the old version I prefer on the NST (1.6.2.3) but there is an option to add a shortcut to the home screen. You turn on WiFi and tap the shortcut and the FTP address appears in the notification area. Tapping on the notification brings up the option to exit. Very neat.
The tricky part (here the website is really helpful) is setting up the client part on a tablet or phone. I run a newer but still old version of ES on my Nook Tablet because I think the current market version is way too bloated and complex. But the FTP option is there (not the same as Remote Manager, which is the server) under "Network". Follow the instructions from the website and you can easily connect to the NST, move and manipulate files, etc. I just tried it with an ebook I downloaded on my tablet yesterday. The only fly in the ointment is that I had to restart my NST before the book would appear in the Library. That is not typical for transferring via WiFi File Transfer or even USB. Perhaps if the book was transferred to a holding folder (like Downloads) and then moved locally via ES File Explorer into your book folder it would show up without a restart. Worth a try!

[How To] use wifi to xfer files PC-phone. easy.

This is an alternative to plugging a USB cable between the two to transfer files. Like if your phone's charger port breaks.
On your phone use GooglePlay to install the app: "wifi file transfer" by "DNL Media UG" (I have only had success with this particular one for entire phone's memory.)
Shows entire phone's memory when you connect to PC ftp..
---> In phone's settings/apps/app:wifi file transfer, permissions, storage = yes - else can't see sdcard etc.
Connect phone to PC via wifi ( I connect phone to wifi from my router).
When you start the app, then tap START, it will give you an ftp address like eg ftp:// 192.168.1.3 :3332 (yours will likely be different.) I unchecked things like password.
Start your FTP file transfer program on PC - I use Filezilla in Ubuntu Linux. There are many good free ones for windows.
From the info you get from the phone app above: set settings in PC ftp program: eg: Host = 192.168.1.3, port = 3332 . Then tap quickconnect or whatever.
Move files either way.
This was tested on Moto G3.
Using an app like Mxplorer or ES-FileManager connecting to a shared drive seems much easier and straight forward to me.

This is stated to be an alternative to usb cable(which is easier).
If you're not using cable or wifi, how are you connecting?

He is considering FTP over wifi too, but using a file explorer instead of a dedicated application. Just clarifying
Personally, I too use a copy of ES File Explorer Pro (without the ads and crap) for FTP. Filezilla works excellently in both windows and linux, but I have set up a network location shortcut in windows for better explorer integration.

I jut played with it a bit, but I don't see how to connect it to a browser or rather ftp prog on PC. I wifi connect to router, and in ES I send, but of course it has no idea where to send it.
EDIT - if I poke enough things it gives me an addressort, but filezilla can't find it.

From what I observed, the 'send' option only detects other devies connected to the same wifi and running ES at that time.
Rather, you should swipe from the left, Network > Remote Manager > Turn on. Now either type the address in a browser, or directly in File Explorer (Windows Explorer) or any FTP program. The settings icon has the option to change directory (internal or external storage).

Where is Network > Remote Manager > Turn on. phone ?(where) PC? ??
ES keeps shutting off my phone's wifi.
