Samsung Galaxy S2 Official ICS - Galaxy S II General

Samsung Galaxy S2 to get Official ICS in March – OTA Update
Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 operating system are the now more than 70 days old and still there is no major mobile phone out with Android 4.0 by default or there is no phone with Android 4.0 upgrade readily available. Yesterday, it was HTC who announced at their Facebook page that they will be updating HTC Sensation line of phone with Ice Cream Sandwich in March end. Today it turned out to be Samsung’s turn as they have announced that their best selling Galaxy S II will receive Ice Cream Sandwich update on March 1, 2012 which is the concluding day of Mobile World Congress. The Android 4.0 update of Galaxy S II has no connection with MWC either.

Maybe it's akin to poking your eyes out, for the OT. . JK.

I suggest that all duplicate boring threads be converted into pony threads from now on. Go ponies!!

We've already had several threads about this.

Actually, this may very well be relevant. Perhaps it's a sign that they are readying the release. Who knows for sure.... It updates us on the status of the overall roll out. Whether or not it applies to Samsung as they seem to march to the beat of a different, unknown drummer is another story.
Thanks for the update.

LOL, yes just a generalized update concerning GB as an OTA from Sprint.
I am sure given my signature and number of posts; that you'd unserdtand I know where I am posting
Thank you for not disappointing me; I knew for sure I'd catch a flame or two... hehehe
Thank you Rob for coming to my defense
Maybe now that both of Sprint's favorite sons, the EVO brothers, got the GB update they can finally release it to the red headed stepchild.

Come on already who cares about gingerbread? Ics is the new flavor fav of the month

Let's face it once google announced the ics as the next version of android why do some people still want gb when ics can be leaked and used on our phones. Google needs to be the one doing the updates not the carriers and phone makers. Google should open a beta and prebeta builds to all who want them.

this thread should be stickied as a perfect example of a douche.

For someone who's been around since the 70's you seem to not understand the development life cycle of a product to be expecting such an asinine thing to happen.
Using win7 (retail) to win8 (alpha) argument proves your failure to grasp that.
BTW, i love how decad3nce pwned your last post. LOL

Because to us Gingerbread is the most important release ever! Gingerbread was made with Hummingbird in mind..ICS is a huge improvement for dual core phones..while we definitely get some new features, you would not notice such huge performance increases as you do with Gingerbread.
Locked. OP, check your pm's.

As we explained yesterday, now that the Ice Cream Sandwich SDK has been released, we're about to see a deluge of SDK-based ROM ports. We're not going to cover them all here, but will will cover the first to come out of the Android Central Forums. Beezy's been hard at work, and you'll soon be able to enjoy the fruits of his SDK labor on the Nexus S 4G. Things are very much still a work in progress, but you'll soon be able to be the first on your block to say you have some form of ICS on your phone.

So glad I switched to the Nexus S 4g on launch day. We'll have ICS before years end and my old phone (Epic 4g) still sadly sits on Froyo officially. With endless hallow promises from Samsung about an official Gingerbread build. Never ever again will I buy a carrier/manufacture supported phone. The devs with this phone have been incredible and so has the phone. Same goes for the other Nexus S (non 4g) devs.

Seems like Sammy is pushing SII plus version seen they announced it with JB? I don't see other reason aside that one. Then again 4.2.1 is on various custom ROMs, so one can try and see how it all works, also with butter.
My kid flashed custom JB 4.2.1 rom on his SGS II and he reverted back to ICS day after... don't ask why, I think he's a bit crazy but might be also right If I see JB 4.2.1 on ours then I can say thanks, but let's be fair - It's made for newer phones like Note II and S III (let alone S IV that's coming up shortly).

Some Bad News on the Kitkat Update

Hi All...I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but...
According to a Sony Representative, he said that our phone [ Xperia SP ] won't be receiving the much awaited "KitKat" Update
you can check it out for yourself right here

Note: That translates to "I got confirmation from Sony that the Xperia SP won't be receiving the Kitkat update"
This is one of the reasons why I am getting the Z1c I mean Sony always forgets the Non-Flagship phones
I mean look the Galaxy Nexus has a KitKat Update!!! and ours doesn't?
already posted
Already posted and you have to believe that we can't trust these man. I remember one of them said that we will have Xperia Windows Phone almost year ago and till now, SONY still don't use Windows Phone OS.

Direct quote from the article listed in OP
"Once such thread from 18 February 2014 was asking about the availability of the Android 4.4 KitKat"
That was weeks ago. It's still listed under investigation, so honestly, I wouldn't put too much weight on this post. That was almost 2 months ago and no official word. Yes, that person later said that he/she got "confirmation", but from who? If it were true, the websites would be updated.
We'd all be best to stop speculation and rumors to wait until Sony's press officially says something through their proper channels, not an AMA on some random site.
Yeah it was written on april 1st lol

I don't mind if we don't get Kitkat, but i wish they at least fix install lag in 4.3.
