last week my friend came from france and brought me a Sensation and I sold my DHD. thinking i would appreciate the Sensation more but I really do miss my DHD. I had my DHD setup perfect and everything was working just fine, i just wanted a phone with a secondary camera.
Anyways, I rooted my sensation but most of the custom ROMs are sense based and there aren't many CM7 based ROMs. I was running black ice on my DHD and I loved it. Now the only ROM made for the Sensation by Alien Mind is a ICS Sense based rom. I tried flashing it to see how it is and I really don't like HTC sense. Now i'm running HyperSensation, CM7 based rom, and have my phone setup very similar to my DHD but I am having GPS issues! I am trying to sort it out and that's the only thing that's bugging me. My DHD was perfect! :end rant:
It's always nice to stay current and have the best item out but when you have been soo attached and had your current belonging set up to the way you want it. IMO the dual core is hype, my DHD compared to the sensation feels the same.
I agree with you, DHD is such a perfect device even after it is over a year old. At one time I do want a Sensation because it is a hype device (especially with its dual core processor, secondary cam, etc), but when I compared it with my DHD, I did not see anything urgent to finally make me want to spend my savings in order to get the Sensation. Dual core processor is only such a gimmick, because I did not felt any differences between dual core and single core, especially for casual uses. My favourite HD games such as Asphalt 6, 9MM HD, GTAIII, and LetsGolf series also runs very well on my DHD.
i agree with u swift and motherninja... and hi motherninja i'm from Indonesia tooo...nice too meet u here...
cool! we are in the same region, a couple hours away on a plane I live in Cambodia
I agree with you it's a perfect device, when you have root acces you have many options and ROMS.
yes OS speed the DHD is as fast but the GPU on sensation is way ahead, I like playing 3D games and the DHD doesn't come close, I have both phones
I think the DHD still has a long life ahead of it; its due to be receiving the ICS upgrade.
You can still buy one relatively cheap on eBay as a backup phone

I bought evo 3d, and was thinking to sell dhd, evo's from asda are bad phones, they switch off itself, decide to return evo, will stick with dhd another while...

I was thinking about upgrading my DHD to Sensation but I think I have to reconsider...
Thanks for the info.
With the new roms in development especially the ice cream sandwich based roms, I think I'll be holding onto my DHD for a while longer too.

True, only thing is the battery time but I can always buy a battery that lasts longer. And with the CM9 ROMs coming soon, I will keep my DHD even longer, + ICS with Sense - I hope it`s good.

hello all
i,m undecided with either OSF or wildfire, i can see the main advantage is bigger and better screen then the wildfire, apart from that is there anything else?
can i use the net from a different provider on the OSF?
any opionions on this would be appreciated to help me decide
and not bothered about camera, rooting, mainly used for net browsing, calls, texts and battery time is also a factor.
thanks
wildfire has lower resolution so it isn't very good for net browsing but has a smaller screen so battery life should be longer
It's honestly not a decision.
San Francisco. No question!
Better in every way (not camera).
Having set up both with practically same setup have to say the ZTE-Blade is far better, regards speed, screen space, graphics... camera's haven't checked but every HTC device have owned the camera is whak so never been a bigee when buying a smartphone.

OSF
I sold my iphone on Friday & picked up a San fransico today. Been playing with it a few hours n I have to say for £99 it's awesome! I'm using it on giffgaff, unlocked it with a free code from a certain website (google it), took about 2 mins!
I played with a wildfire & didn't think much of the small screen, plus certain games like angry birds don't work due to the lower resolution. AB seems fine on the osf.
So yeah, get the osf!
The GPU on the SF makes it the better choice if you fancy playing games etc.
OSF has better hadware specs but Wildfire has much better build quality and software interface. I have the OSF which is a good stop gap but seriously lacking a good ROM although that should hopefully change soon with official 2.2 leaks that's come through in the last 24hrs..... but the wildfire is a pretty good stable device!
thanks a lot for all your replies, my biggest issue nnow is i,m not sure on what rom to use TBH, but this is news to me about the official 2.2, is there any info on it yet?
also any opionion on what the best in terms of reliablity and with all fixes and similar to htc interface (htc clock and weather widegt - fancy widget i think etc)?
thanks
Probably, there wont be any official 2.2, though there is plenty of roms which have 2.2 in it.
I'd personally recommend "Japanese Jellyfish" wich is a really great ROM who have been working really good on my Blade.
thanks a lot, how about eclair 2.1, is there a decent stable version, dont need a singing and dancing rom, just stable with all important fixes and not a battery killer
thanks
ROM in Sig can be found on there forum along with a sweet black theme

If you're after stability and great interface (Sense UI) without messing about and supportability, the wildfire wins hands down.

Ive been using Sebastian's roms since v3. Excellent, stable rooms with good battery life and available in lite or full feature.
Latest one is called "r8_update_de-orangeated_blade_signed.zip" if you want to search for it.
OSF hands down mauls the wildfire. Out of all the HTC Phones, the Wildfire is the phone that i hate the most. I was one of the forst people to be using HTC'S (since the days of the XDA himalaya) All my friends would say it was crap. then now they all get the wildfire and try to compare it against my TG01 and OSF. one of my friends who owns a wildfire even said it was better than my Galaxy Tab, because it was smaller and 'quicker'.
the wildfire is a phone that i would happily smash to pieces..
No doubt the OSF is better than the wildfire in everyway. .
- faster CPU
- better screen
- more RAM
- nicer design.
- DOESN'T PISS ME OFF!
haha, thanks

Considering it's previously been said that the Wildfire, due to it's low resolution screen, doesn't support a large majority of apps, the "supportability" of the Wildfire you claim is questionable, no, ridiculous. The SF supports far more things.

I want to buy a new smartphone. What is the best?
Is there other options because those phones are both nice but there are newer ones with dual core about the same price as those phones. If you want versatility then the HD2 is the phone for you. if you want pure android from the door and dont really want the hassle of messing around then I would go withe the Desire HD. I have the HD2 and i love the phone alot of development for it but it is getting old. I would go with the Desire HD.
czarsuperstar......... Define versatility.
Uh...
Desire HD has newer CPU and GPU.
So... Desire HD/

Grip of death issue on the Sensation...and the nail to the coffin for the Sensation is that other brands do offer better per dollar value...such as SGSII. lol.
Between HD2 and Desire HD, go with the Desire HD, its a far newer phone with improved CPU and GPU as well as other small tweaks such as the camera, most importantly, a far more superior operating system...HD2 had a lot of issues with the digitaliser...

If I were you I would not consider hanging with these phones. Though very popular phone but...I would put 10% more on the top of my budget n bought the new dual core phones like sensation or GS2.
I got DHD now. I like it but there are couple of other phones more powerful, better GPU and better battery life.
Decision is yours: If no last options I would prefer DHD far better specs than HD2
My wife has Samsung Galaxy. Everything just seems to 'work' on that phone compared to my HD. Dont be blinkered into choosing an HTC phone based on past glories.

I'm also tempted to buy a S2 galaxy.
People b*tch about it being plastic but you have very good plastic and bad metal if you know what I mean, as long as the chassis is sturdy.
Also rf-signals (gps, wifi, bt and gsm (still a phone)) pass through plastic more easily than metal.
For one I would not buy a HD2 anymore if it would be your only phone.
Like someone said, hardware issues. Head down to the hd2 forum and you will see loads of people complaining about bad blocks, digitizers etc. things that are not really replacable etc.
As being a 'toy' phone then yes the HD2 is fantastic.
I now have the DHD but I'm still not sure that I like it. I also have a ZTE blade (yes the cheap thing) and it beats the DHD in wifi, gps and loudspeaker (as being able to hear something not like a tweeter on the DHD)
The DHD on the other hand is faster, has a better camera (still seeing pink spot, check a grey wall and bump up colour and contrast) and larger screen (did I say that the ZTE screen was brighter also?).
So it all depends on your needs.
I would love to testdrive a couple of phones and compare them for a week.
There are 2 things about SGS2 which wins over Sensation. It's Super Amoled bright screen and it's light weight!
Downside: very cheap looking phone! seems like bought from a $2.00 shop lol
Sensation: It's got sense 3.0 because it make sense! a bit lagging If I'm not wrong my DHD runs smoother than HTC sensation. > May be they have fixed with the new update!
NOT to overwhelm OP with these ideologies . Ya should have these things in mind before buying your SMART PHONE. Or else you'll end up regrating. Now we say HD2 is old 2,3 months later you'll say to Sensation or GS2. It's all Money and Marketing but on top of that you should consider your own needs and requirements from a smart phone.

I have been a member of the HD2 section of this forum for over a year, and until last week i owned 2 x HD2 phones.
Trust me.....get a HTC Desire!!!!
Owned my desire for a week and it's BRILLIANT compared to HD2 problems.
matt
As few have mentioned the DHD has better hardware spec than the HD2.
What nobody has mentioned though is the screen is way better on the DHD especially in terms of accuracy of typing, thats what i've found anyway...
If they are your only 2 choices defo the DHD in my experience...
DHD is better than HD2,they are uncomparable, but why not another newer and more powerful dual core phone? The two of them are out of fashion now.
I think the Desire HD is still a very good phone compared to the newer generation phones (SGS2, Sensation) and a viable option. It depends on what features you need though.
Why?
-Dualcore does not bring any real advantages right now. When apps really profit from it there will be better phones. + it usually uses more power than singlecore.
So the speed improvement compared to a DHD is very minimal and probably not noticable in general.
-DHD has one of the best custom rom support. From different Sense 2.1 and Sense 3 roms to Cyanogen or MIUI variations you can flash what you want on your DHD. Custom roms on the newer phones are still in early developement.
-Software from both SGS2 and Sensation isnt quite there imho. Touchwiz is well... touchwiz, and SGS2 has some problems with 3d games and overheats sometimes. And somehow the sensation just doesnt feel that smooth (i had the feeling sense 3 on my DHD runs smoother^^) we can only hope updates will correct that.
I could go on. But in my opinion upgrading from a DHD to one of the newer phones is something you should only do if you have more than enough money on your bank.
But you're in another situation. You need a new phone and if money is an issue i think the DHD is still a good option (forget the HD2 its just too old). Its not without flaws but neither are the newer phones.
I will stick to my DHD for at least another year. But if I would be in your spot(and money wasnt an issue) right now id probably go for the Sensation with a good custom rom (they should be out soon with the bootloader unlocked now).
The SGS2 is very good, but there are some things that are dealbrakers for me. For example the screen. Everyones praising it to heaven but i think its just awefull to look at^^ Colors are way off. And stuff mentioned above..

Ah, I'm not alone in thinking that then? Full brightness, looks fine - anything less and the SGSII has a green tint to it. Yuck.
I've got a Desire HD; works very well for me - all the better for rooting and putting on Cyanogen instead of Sense!

Well its time to upgrade, after 2 years with my little Hero. Amazing phone.
Any way im down to a choice of 2. And strugling to make a choice.
HTC Sensation, or the HTC Evo 3D
wait one month
just wait one month for the XE. I know the beats part is a gimmick but it will be roughly the same price and a faster clocked processor and better headphones out of the box
I still have my hero as well. I want to upgrade but I personally find that most new phones just all look alike. The hero was just so awesomely different haha !!

I went for a Samsung Galaxy S2 and never been Happy
I thought I'd Give Samsung a chance after HTC HERO and HTC HD7 and I feel I made the right choice.
Reasons I like the SGS2 :
1) You can easily flash latest firmwares without rooting your phone through a software called 'ODIN' (so you can flash a normal firmware without the carrier garbage)
2) You can easily get HTC look with Launcherpro with the Sense theme and another app which gives you the Sense 3.0 lockscreen
3) I feel the Camera is better than the Sensation.
4) Initially it felt very cheap and way too light , but you grow on it and I am actually happy now its lighter as my fingers don't get tired holding it for longer period.
5) It has more Ram than the SGS2
6) Not sure about the 3D but I played with the LG optimus 3D and feel 3D is just a gimmick, you can only see it if you old the phone at a particular angle and then again lot of people complain about headaches if they use it for longer periods
Sense is brilliant but then sometimes it feels laggish ..
Just my thoughts but I would suggest you try to play with whichever phone you want to go for as then you will be able to decide which you feel more comfy with

Hahah, almost the exactly same reason as I had to change to a SGS2..
After seeing a friends SGS2 I would heartily recommend it. The phone is a beast!
love hero forever
:O Thats Awesome I think im gonna sell if it comes in Europe / Netherlands
I'm going to say goodbye to my hero aswell and I'll probably choose SGS2.
I've played a while with it, and must say that I don't wanna take little hero back in hand Amazing phone.
I would actually recommend ppl to wait a bit before buying new phone. ICS will soon come, and will be huge change to Android. The hardware buttons will be on the screen which makes those we have today quite unnecessary. Wait for the nexus prime ;-)
sent with love from me to you
I'm going to go for a Sensation XE I think - Galaxy 2 is a damn good phone but I've never been fond of Samsung or the way it looks. Waiting might be a good solution - never know what they have up their sleeves... a new Hero would be awesome

Sgs2 has still got better specs than Nexus prime, besides its easier to update SGS2 firmware without rooting via ODIN, unless ofcourse the SGS3 has something better like quad core
How awesome it would be to have a true Hero follow-up by HTC. They can keep certain design elements like a curved chin using a curved screen. Quad Core. No buttons like the Galaxy Prime. With ICS Android 4.0.
Oh, well..or maybe I should just get the Galaxy Prime. I am waiting as well, but would hate giving up on my Hero. It has served me well and is still doing alright.
does anyone want to sell or trade there hero??
I don't think that it's a good idea to buy a hero today.
The main problem is that the hero needs better hardware to run correctly latest sense stuff
It needs better processor, more ram and (as for me) faster access to memory.
It's only a good idea if you don't want to use it as a daily use.
I love my hero, but I guess I will buy an EVO 3D or some better phone to run sense 3.0 or 3.5 well
finally what have you boght?
you guys should rly upgrade asap. i got a sensation and man its a huge upgrade from a old hero. screen is gorgeous, very fast, updated firmware, camera, etc. i cant even look at my hero anymore. lol. its so slow at everything now that ive used a dual core phone. only thing i miss about the hero is the trackball, battery life, and exceptional reception. ill still keep it as a backup phone though
I've had my Desire HD for around 8 months now and I've been nothing but impressed and bedazzled by it, it's the first true smartphone (and android) I've used other than the poor iPhone #1 gen and I still love it to be pieces, looks beyond sexy (still yet to see a phone with a 4.3"+ screen look as good or better), is more than enough power even though dual core phones or better are strutting their stuff and the con list is short.
However, I've still got the phone for another year and a bit (two year contract) and although I welcome the time to come I'm always a little worried it'll be dropped in terms of development, my main concern is if this 1ghz snapper will remain strong throughout future renditions of Android? It'd be a shame to have this phone lose it's shine as technology advances and that's a given in today's quickly progressing world.
Any replies are appreciated, thankyou!
just stick with it and look into rooting. By the time your contract is over you'll have many great phones to choose from. Always research before committing to any device....or woman lol.

I agree with every word, this device is the best phone I ever owned
you should consider rooting, this phone s2 CPU can go up to 1.5ghz easily, just like the sensation XL, android revolution ROM is based on stock the latest is based on sense 3 OTA and also offer a slight boost to GPU
check the info in my signature to take this beast into its full potential
I can easily wait for quad core + HD display it better be unibody too
Is it going anywhere? No. Tech moves to fast, as shown by the fact that HTC doesn't currently have the DHD on their ICS curve. It's an impressive enough piece of hardware that I'm sure it will eventually get ICS, but you'll get it much sooner by being rooted and watching for cm9, or anyone who gets there sooner.
That said, this is such an awesome phone, if you aren't the type to break your contract and spend 600 to move to the Galaxy Nexus, the next greatest early adopter phone...
Enjoy it

I am pretty happy with it. my first android phone and it lived upto its reputation.
Couldnt have been better.
Also regarding future, I think it has a long way to go. (recently installed ICS and its awesome)
HTC released sense 3. maybe they may go one step further to ICS
All we can do is hope. (otherwise we have XDA )

I was in the same mind set as you, great phone but Hhhmmmm...
Then last week I flashed the phone to Android Revolution 6.2.0 and now I have the phone I want (it is literally like having a new phone) and it's to a degree future proofed it until my contract runs out in a years time.
Root your phone and take and change the ROM, you won't regret it, I certainly haven't
I don't find desire HD that attractive when i have SGS+ and sony ericsson xperia arc s at home owned by my sister and my father.
This phone lacks a normal (1500mAh) battery, i mean what was HTC thinking when they placed 1250mAh battery there...my old san francisco running at 600mhz has 1250mAh and it makes sense, a front facing camera
and weight is too much to pull my jeans down so that i can sag although it can be a plus point for some people but definitely not for me.

A bit more on topic, I think your good with the dhd for at least another six months to be fair. There's a lot of handsets being released right now that are only just catching up with this beast, many with less ram as well. Although these are now the mid range/cheaper handsets this means that apps need to be written with this in mind so there shouldn't be any problems in that area. Throw in the fact that you can overclock, theres ics on the horizon and the overall build quality and you shouldn't have anything to worry about with this phone.

A little too much perhaps.
I wouldn't want to sell mine anyway. Bought it in dec 2010; owned it, loved it & flaunted it & its got more in it. Never had a problem (hardware) at all even though I constantly keep doing this to it (change ROMs, OC, etc)
Overall, it's a great phone. It would be sad if HTC stops pushing OS updates for it. But then again, who needs the manufacturer for updates
how much would be fair?
Thanks for reply
About 200€ is about right, check ebay. There's more bravos and sensations on there than dhds though so that'll tell you something about this phone. Dhd owners tend to love their phone
Love the phone. Hate the battery life though.

Battery life is a bit crappy but I'm managing over a day between charges with the latest its update which is good enough. Plus everywhere I go has somewhere that I can charge up, on e you're used to the charge cycle its not a problem. When I bought the phone I bought an extra battery and I've not used it once so it can't be that bad

Rooting my DHD with Android Revolution turned a useless lump with at best 6 hours battery life into a true performer. It's definately the way...
I have to agree that changing from stock firmware to a ROM massively helped battery life for me. Have played with Sense, AOSP and MIUI ROM's - currently running ICS. Battery life in all cases has been better than HTC stock. You have to wonder who sets up the software they ship with really
Due for an upgrade - been holding out for the HTC Desire Z as I love my keyboard, but have been offered the HTC Desire S.
I want some feedback in helping me decide...
Do you have a Desire Z? Is it aw awesome as it looks?
If you had the same choice, which would you choose?
Right now, neither.
i am using the desire z as my main phone now and it is a very good phone. the hardware keyboard is working fine and the hinge problem isn't such a problem as everybody says.
But...
if i would buy a new phone now it wouldn't be a desire z or a desire s. i would go for a phone with more power like the SG II. Don't get me wrong, the desire z is a awesome phone, but it lacks at raw power nowadays.
hope it helped
dz is kinda dying... people (talking about me) buy dz and overclock it, becausse its getting kinda slow (relatively to other phones)

I'm a 9gagger, if you are one... pm me
Get something with at least 1.5ghz+ to see something with moderate improvement over the DZ/DS. The era of ~1GHz phones is going to get phased out eventually when the devs are moving on to what is hot.
In Jan 2012 right now, that'd be the HTC/Tmobile Amaze, SGS2, Or the Optimus 4G, but dev support for that is limited.
I wouldn't pick either Desire Z or Desire S unless I knew I was going to get a good resale value. They're both pretty much the same hardware-wise.
Thanks
Thanks guys, but now I am confused.
I need a phone with a qwerty keyboard - are there any other, better, alternatives?
It is all subjective by what you mean is 'better'.
Yeah, there are a few out there:
- Motorola Milesone/Droid 4 : Dual 1.2Ghz, PowerVR SGX540, 1GB RAM
- HTC/Tmobile MyTouch 4g Slide: Dual 1.2Ghz, Adreno 220, 768MB RAM
- Samsung Captivate Glide: Dual 1.0Ghz, Tegra 2, 1GB RAM
Are they better than a Desire Z speedwise? Marginally, I don't think most of us will notice the mhz difference especially if we overclock the DesireZ which most roms do to ~1.0Ghz.
If you need more RAM for what you're doing, then it's definitely better. However if you ask which is better development wise? It's just left to the Desire Z and Mytouch4G now.

It depends on what you want to use it for.
If it just making phones calls, listening to music, writing e-mail and playing games then the Desire Z will be good enough for you (or alternatively Motorola Milestone 2).
Getting a dual core phone is not essential if you just want to do the above. On this forum, we like our specs. So in our eyes the better the specs, the more impress we are. But if you just want something practical and functional, then the Desire Z will be good enough for you.
As a Desire Z user, I'm happy with my phone and there isn't a phone out there at this point of time that is a worthy successor to it.

I agree with the previous poster... I've been using the G2/DZ for a year now and it still runs brilliantly (in part due to the fantastic ROM I'm running, ILWT CM7). I actually just bought the HTC Sensation for a family member. I rooted it and flashed a custom ROM... so I've spent some time with it, and I can say that despite the Sensation's Dual Core 1.2GHz processor, my G2 seemingly runs just as fast and smoothly (my G2 is overclocked just a bit at 1.1GHz). This is to say that I would still recommend this device to someone who was interested in a hard keyboard. It's been the most dependable phone I've owned to date.
I agree with others, had the desire, the desire hd and now i got the z with the weakest cpu. But if you're writing a lot it's very nice, i can write nearly bling with the keyboard meanwhile. I'm using ilwt-rom and it's much faster than the desire hd with sense. But if u got the decision, i'd advice you the galaxy s2 or the galaxy s plus because of amoled and the better batteryperformance. Bought a mugenakku for 30€/45$ and i'm very happy with my phone now. I think i'm gonna use until it won't work anymore. For the dailystuff eg youtube/sms/whatsapp and other stuff it's enough and very fast in my opinion. If you would like to play with your phone you should take the galaxy s2.
All in all it's the perfect phone to me

The Desire Z is a great phone! I've had mine about a year and while I was tempted inially when the Sensation came out, the lack of a hw keyboard made me think twice.
DZ has a few limitations, though. It has no front camera, which is not a deal breaker for me but would have been nice.
It has 512 MB RAM. If you're planning to root it and run a custom ROM based on Sense 3.0/3.5 I would recommend another phone with at least 768 MB RAM.
Sense is just too memory-heavy for DZ to run it smoothly and fast. Eventually you will have apps that you want to keep running falling out of memory, maybe soft reboots and hang ups all around.
It does run AOSP based ROMs perfectly well, be it CM, MIUI or other.
I love my DZ and will probably keep it at least until fall running some ICS ROM.
If hw keyboard is important to you it's a no-brainer.
The Desire Z is a great QWERTY entry level phone even if it has old specs. I still have it since it came out. It has great support from the Dev community as well
