"Rigid" Screen Protectors?

Having recently bought my son a Nintendo DS, I noted that in the accessory pack I got with it, it came with 2 screen protectors that are semi-rigid. They're quite a bit thicker than one that shipped with my phone, and don't flex and bend like thin paper. They also don't seem to affect sensitivity of the touch screen in any way, as well as being perfectly sized to the screens and were invisible once fitted.
Are there similar protectors for the TyTn 2? I'd love such a protector as it'd be FAR easier to fit, and provide much better protection to the screen.

Rigid Screen Protectors
I have come across these. The ones I tried were made by "Martin Fields" product number MFOP-HTCTyTN-T
A right bloody bastard to fit as they are very slighty oversized. Perhaps this is done purposly so the protector fits into the gap around the edges of the screen?
Very clear and reasonably priced compared to the OEM product. They do work extremely well (once fitted).

Well, from the video, the invisibleShield isn't the slightest bit rigid, though if it lives up to its claims, that wouldn't matter. I ordered a Martin Fields one earlier so I'll see how good that is.
It's not just the rigidity for protection though. A rigid protector will be a LOT easier to fit...

Beleave me, MF is rigid. And yes, it is easy to install but remember to clean the surface of the screen. This part is very important. If you do it right, it will install in less than 30 seconds and you will struggle to see the difference between no protector and MF.

Oh I know that. I'll be cleaning it very carefully and making sure there's no dust about when I fit it! Don't want dust under the thing!
Just wish it'd hurry up and arrive!

The boxwave protectors are much thicker than average ones, are washable, and work great. They are about as thick as the psp protectors, e.g. more like a hard plastic sheet, I'm not sure what the ds ones are like.

FYI, a warning this could break your Tilt!!!!
This shield rocks. However it's a risk for the Tilt. You have to apply water to the back of the protector to get the bubbles out. I applied water, shook the excess water off before applying.... and stuck it on.
I used the included squeegee to get the excess water out of the shield along with the bubles. I wiped extra water away. Next day, my screen was dead (colors were washed out and glitches). Apparently during the squeegee process water slipped between the screen surface and the edge of the bezel around the screen, and in to the phone, and got under the LCD plastic into the LCD itself.
I do use this product on my $2700 SLR camera. There's no bezel on the LCD so the squeegee'd water comes right off, and won't get in the camera.
Beware. I had to get a new Tilt because of this, and it'll be a cold day in hell I use this product on any item with a bezel where water can seep in.

My phone broke, but I had insurance on it (not from phone company but through homeowner's via a personal property rider), and mycellularrepair.com was able to replace the LCD for $200. Also, never buy that phone company insurance. Personal property rider is the way to go. It was just pennies a year for ~$500 of coverage for the phone. NO DEDUCTIBLE! So I paid nothing to have my phone fixed.

Interesting - Are you really that concerned about a product which is relatively cheap compared to the amount of time use you get out of it? Forget washing it off. Just put another one on - a CLEAN NEW one. If they last a long time (like in most cases a year or more), who cares that you have to spend around $20 to get a replacement. If they stopped making them altogether or they cost a ridiculous amount of money (for plastic, ridiculous. For peace of mind, priceless), then yeah, I would wash and rewash the screen to save money.
And the idea is NOT to squeegee the WATER bubbles out to the sides. They will evaporate on their own given some time. The idea IS to squeegee the AIR bubbles out to the sides and also to take extra great care when doing this procedure. You wash it off so that it restores some of the tackiness on the film. You can get most of the water off by blowing or using a can of compressed air, THEN put it on. You shouldn't have that much water under your film if you take care when doing it.
I am sorry about your tilt. That really sucks. If I were you, I would just put a BRAND NEW one on next time and forget about washing it off.

I need one of these too, recently the digitizer for the touch screen on my phone cracked. They are charging me 50$ for the screen and 40$ for labor. My question would be, would this rigid screen have prevented my digitizer from breaking? If it would then id buy it in a second.

I just got a couple of them for my phone. They're definitely more rigid than some of the others, but I put it on a clean screen & can barely tell I have one on.
Stylus slides smoothly across it, no visible scratching at all (unlike the OEM one that marked easily), & it's also pretty smooth for finger usage too.
Had to wait a week for them to ship via expansys-usa, but worth the wait.

Dropped my Evo now have a couple scuffs on my screen how should I fix?

Please hold back your remarks about screen protectors this was a replacement, only the second day I had it, didnt have a chance to purchase one.

Think you could post a pic of the damage? if it's not too deep, i've heard of people using this product called applesauce that is supposed to give really good results. Maybe try that out and see how it works. Good luck to you, hope you get the scuffs out

Yeah, just thought of this after I read this post but you can also try the stuff that is used to fill in cracks for car windshields.

The screen on the evo is made of gorilla glass, not plastic. Therefore acid based compounds such as applesauce or lcd scuff removers on the market would not work. The famous banana slice/peel trick doesn't work here either. Some compounds for watches only clean the surface of the glass and remove dirt from within the scratches, making the scratch less visible.
Your best bet is to clean the glass to remove all dirt then install a screen protector like invisibleshield to mask the scratches. This will work better since a liquid solution (usually 1 part soap and 9 parts water) is applied to the screen so you can squeegee out all the air during installation. The only downside to this is the texture feels like apple skin and screen clarity is affected...maybe 15-20%.

Not sure if it's made of Gorilla glass-- not saying that it scratches easily (because it probably doesn't), but I found I had a two very,very slight surface scratches on the screen after babying it for a month (always put it in an empty pocket with no keys/coins/etc, never set it face down, etc).
In any case, I wouldn't try using toothpaste, brasso, or any other solution on the screen except for an eyeglass/electronic screen cleaner as you'll probably end up creating more noticable scratches. Just clean the screen as well as you can, and throw on a screen protector, and you'll probably never notice the scratch-- most very small scratches are only noticable when viewing the screen at a very oblique angle to catch a reflected light source, and the screen protector blocks this.
Also, I wouldn't recommend the ZAGG. I had never used a ZAGG screen protector before, but have heard great things about them, and I'm not particularly picky or sensitive about screen protectors. However, I found the Zagg protector had a horrible rubbery feel to it, and gave the screen a really bad and noticable orange peel effect (actually, the effect seemed more like the screen was behind a 1/4" layer of ice). I put on a cheapo $1.99 screen protector from Gizmo Dorks (on Amazon.com), and the difference was like night and day-- the screen was just as smooth and clear as the original glass.

I have a few too... Leave it be and after a couple weeks you'll forget you even have them.

Can we buy the glass yet for this phone? I replace iPhone 3G and 3GS glass on an almost daily basis at work.

He might... but I'm not sure a $100 deductible + limited further coverage is worth a few small scuffs. I guess it depends on how bad they are, but if they are anything like mine it totally would not be worth it.

You should be more carefull with your EVO.

Since the debate is going back n forth about the glass.....what is the difference between the two? Sure i could search but since there's a debate I think it should be explained this thread...

I looked all over and can't find anything confirming it's Gorilla Glass so I assume it's not. Plus I wouldn't find so many people with easily cracked screens if it was...

Hello all, I have a question about the gorilla glass on the DX. In your opinions, do we need a screen protector or not? I'd love to just have the glass front but also don't want to harm the phone. Also, exactly how many gorillas were sacrificed to make each glass screen? I want to rub it in PETA's face.

To use a screen protector...or not to use a screen protector.. that IS the question...
Um.. I think its more of a personal preference... Do you tend to be harsh on phones? Or do you take care of them.... That is probably some of the thinking you should put into the matter.
I have had my X for around 7 months, and I take it all over. I have not scratched my screen at all... Its really if you are overly worried about it getting scratched... If so, why not spend a few bucks to protect your precious investment!

I NEVER rocked screen protectors until I got my X... and that wasn't until I saw a scratch on a friends.....
My advice would be if you are going to get one, get a good one like steinhell or however you spell it.
If you get their top of the line it s also good at fighting against fingerprints.

The SGP crystal clear you can't even tell it is there.

Never used a screen protector or case. Never even bothered to take care of my phone. No marks on it whatsoever and I got it on launch day. Get a screen protector if you want to crappy looking layer of scratched up plastic over your screen. Get a case if you want your phone to be all scratched up.
Cases and screen protectors both do more harm than good.

My Droid X has proven very sturdy. It's been dropped, kept in random pockets exclusively (with keys occasionally) and has no scratches on the glass. The only damage to the body is a couple of minor dents in either upper corner, which have to be pointed out, and scratches on the back "M" logo.
I typically use a two-piece plastic shell, because I like the way it looks and it offers a little protection when dropped. I tried the Zagg Invisi-shield, as well.
I can't recommend the Invisi-shield, though. It went on with a little work and it felt fine to the touch. It was also only slightly more smudge prone than the glass itself. However, I scratched the protector the day after installation with a paper napkin. A couple weeks later, and a few bucks for shipping, my replacement shield was delivered with a tiny scratch in the center of the front side.
I say run without protection.

I have had my X since it came out. I briefly had the crappy Verizon screen protector/antiglare film on. I keep my phone in my pocket with the glass against my leg and have had no problems. For Christmas I got the Seidio surface combo case. So it isn't in my pocket as much anymore.

Ive had my X since before froyo with no protection whatsoever. I carry it like jgraham with the glass against my leg. I've dropped this thing on blacktop and facedown on concrete. Not a scratch on the screen. I have some nasty battle scars on the little ridge that protrudes up past the screen though.
I can't stand the screen protectors. I don't like the look or feel of them. If you destroy the glass somehow, just pay the $50 deductable or whatever. Well worth it to me.

I also recommend the Seidio Crystal Clear protector. It's much more invisible, and less friction, than the Zagg InvisibleShield. It's also much cheaper (you get a 2-pack for almost 1/2 the price of one InvisibleShield).
I've been using the Seidio for a few months now and it works great. I can't even tell it's on my phone, except it collects smudges a bit more than the naked glass. But a quick wipe on my shirt removes them. Cheap insurance in my book.

Dear god what a frigging fiasco. Not only does every speck of dust adhere to the back of the screen protector, despite the application solution, but said dust particles seem to ave seriously deformed the plastic, so now the screen protector has zits.
Moving on to the entirely insufficient carbon fiber skin, there's not enough pieces to cover the sides, and the back piece is cut too small, always leaves a couple of millimeters of glass visible around the edge.
Moral:do NOT buy for the Xperia Z3!
I'm overnighting a new Skinomi setup....

Thats your opinion.
I have it as just a screen protector and it is fine. Much better than other protectors because with a case on it, it doesn't lift the screen protector edges.
The only issue I have with it is the screen oils up bad from fingerprints, easily fixed with one or two wipes over fabric

You're supposed to install screen protectors in a dust free environment. Try turning the hot water on in the shower and waiting ~10 minutes, then try to install it.

Clearly you don't know very much.
Ghost Armor is the absolute worst of the wet-applied screen protectors. The whole idea behind wet-applied ones is so that the fluid captures the dust so it can be squeegied out from underneath the screen protector. Ghost Armor's adhesive, however, seems to grab onto every speck of dust it can find (apparently it's also got a static attraction component) and literally will not let go. Not even tape pulls it off, you have to soak it down and then scrape it off with a fingernail...at which point more dust gets pulled in and adheres. Any dust. Even in a humid bathroom. Horrible design.
Skinomi, Zagg, ArmorSuit, all of them work wonderfully in the same environment and under the same conditions. Ghost Armor? They can't even measure phone dimensions or create properly cut and sized skin pieces, so I guess asking them to create a proper wet-applied TPU screen protector is too much to ask.

I have used Ghost Armor many times, but have quit using wet-applied protectors in favor of glass protectors. (If I use one at all)
I guess your dust is more dusty than my dust.

I installed cheap mumbi display protectors on the front and back when i got the phone. Both without a single spot of dust or air under them. I don't even want to install my screen protector made of glass, as i then have to pull of the perfect installed normal protector.
Before installation, i had to wipe the screen several times as there was always new dust on it, i did not apply them wet or in my bathroom. Absolutely no problems, so i don't understand how there can be so much dust under the protector if anyone knows what he's doing.

Again, I can get any brand on completely dust-free, except for these things. Ergo, something is wrong with these things.

It's completely possible you had a bad install...
Perhaps they use a better adhesive. I've never had any problem installing Ghost Armor, or any other "brand" screen protector.

Maybe so. I think I read at one point that their protectors could optionally be installed dry, so maybe they're designed that way. But better isn't necessarily good. And I notice their instructions specify a wet install now.
Incidentally I just tried scraping off the dust and reapplying the thing. Only this time in my relatively dust free datacenter. And guess what? It managed to find some dust from somewhere. Damn, they should compete with Swiffer.
Anyway my emergency Skinomi will be here on Thursday. In the meantime this screen is driving me nuts though.

Interesting, I have used it on four phones, and not a single spec of dust on any of them if you prepare your surface correctly, I normally keep the phone screen facing the ground to stop dust settling on it, then apply holding the phone sideways as to keep as smallest surface area exposed to falling dust

E-Ink screen scratches

Only had my YD206 for 2 days, and the rear screen got some bad looking scratches. Was in my pocket with only a very small (thumb size) aerosol dispenser which apart from a smooth rounded edge body has a plastic cap with so-so sharp top edges. Anyway, it left a couple of deep looking scratches that won't rub away.
I wish I had taken some pics before I started, so your just have to believe me:
I very carefully (and with my heart in my mouth) applied a tiny amount of toothpaste with my finger to the deepest scratch near the top of the screen. I used circular motions with my finger for about 15 seconds and then another 15 seconds with a kitchen towel. I then cleaned it off with a little water and a clean kitchen towel. Once dry I could barely see the original marks so I repeated it on a longer scratch/scuff on the middle of the screen. The marks which were very obvious to any casual user are now almost invisible.
However, I've observed that if a put a water drop on an area of the screen that I didn't use the toothpaste on, the droplet beads and will roll off if you tilt the device. If I put a droplet on a treated area it disperses and leaves a dark wet patch. This will disappear if the you dry it completely.
This leaves me to belief that the so called Gorilla Glass 3 (advertised as on the rear screen too) is not so, but is a cheap liquid glass coating which I have just rubbed off.
I have since ordered some liquid glass protector from Amazon (Crystalusion Liquid Glass - product no: B0094EETOG), maybe that will stay on and offer some protection. I don't really want to put a film protector on the back, it would spoil the look and feel. I will post the results.
I was just wondering whether I should rub the whole of the rear display with toothpaste to prime it for the liquid glass. Any thoughts?

Interesting observation. Have any one applied a tempered glass to the back e-ink screen?

I agree, on the Chinese phones, both screens are made from cheap glass, easily scratches and cracks. Curved gorilla glass must cost a lot!
It makes me wonder about the battery and other internal electronics too.

Why are you saying so? YD206 should just differ in LTE bands, the phone is the same.
By the way which film for EPD display you ordered? I want to try the one described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/yotaphone-one/accessories/screen-protector-t3097978/page1
But I can't find it anymore.

I am saying phones from Chinese retailers all seem to have components that differ in quality from the old yotaphones assembled in Singapore. I have only a yd206 but I imagine Yd201 is the same. Real Gorilla glass does not scratch and break so easily.

You can do the same with scrached watchs, but for better result some great product exists , like polywatch (and it's cheat, about 5$ for a tube)

Thanks for heads up on polywatch, that looks very interesting so I might get some. After using the toothpaste the other day, I bought another brand (Arm & Hammer) and was conscious that it was more gritty than the stuff I used on the phone (Colgate). I wouldn't have liked to use that on the rear screen.
To add to the Gorilla glass comments, if you go to the corning_dot_com web site they list the manufacturers that are licensed/authorized to use it. Yotaphone are not listed unless or course the phones are built by one of the listed suppliers. Of course that would suggest that the Russian built phones don't use Gorilla glass either - Any comments from Yotaphone on this (if your listening of course)?

I managed to drop my YD206 in my garage. Tried to catch it mid-air but failed miserably so things got worse by spinning like crazy before hitting on the rough concrete. the phone flipped a few times on the concrete for 40-50cm before coming to rest on the front screen.
Bad news are: Back glass is shattered at the lower right "corner" where the first impact seemed to be.
Good news are: Front screen and frame don't have a single, not even tiny scratch! Even though it flipped like crazy and i saw dusty and dirty hit spots where the front screen hit the edgy concrete. EPD still works 100% and glass fragments seem to hold in place (except for a small edge missing in the corner.) I'm impressed and I bet my front screen would be gone if it wasn't some higher quality glass.

I agree, it's only the curved glass that is a cheap fake version. Front glass scratches easily but seems tough.

Finally got the Crystalusion and applied it. I didn't bother to prime the rest of the phone like I said I might and I didn't need too.
Now the phone surface beads water drops and the areas I rubbed down don't absorb water like they did before.
Whether or not the surface will be protected by the coating I don't know. It doesn't feel any different, so only time will tell if it resists scratching and abrasion.
If I remember I will revisit this thread say 4 or 6 months in the future and report back.

I applied a film to the EPD back of mine, I used the supplied wet and dry wipes but there were still a few bubbles. It was extremely difficult to get rid of the bubbles, some remained.
The EPD touch screen works fine still, the phone looks almost as good as before. The film did not stick as well on curved sides as on front, but ok.
But, as someone has already written, the clarity of the screen has improved greatly, there is no more "matte" appearance (due to removal of the cheap coating). It looks like a transparent plain glass screen now. In short the EPD looks much clearer. I love EPD screen now and I am using it much more, well, ALWAYS, in fact. 11 hours battery.
The Yotaphone 2 phones bought from China EPD have NO gorilla glass is my conclusion, I agree with apludgate, just this cheap coating. The huge drop in price of the yotaphone in 2015/16 begins to become clearer, but I am very pleased to have had the chance to buy a Yotaphone. It would be interesting to know the REAL technical differences of the Chinese and Russian phone specs.
Now just awaiting next drop of phone of course

The EPD touch screen works fine still, the phone looks almost as good as before. The film did not stick as well on curved sides as on front, but ok.

Where have you found back screen film? And how manage to use it even if the film doesn't stick on curved sides? It sould peel off eventually...
I also would like to see if the clarity improves, and what are the cons of not having the standard coating anymore.

I found glass and film on aliexpress (of course), only 3-4 usd for a set of 2 pieces.
It sticks, but not so well on curved sides as you can see from the photo. Yes it will peel off eventually.
But the vast improvement in clarity was surprising.
The fake "gorilla" glass, no doubt, offers very little protection, it was just added to make it look like a genuine yotaphone.
I would advise all owners of yotaphones bought in China to buy silicon Bumper and screen protection.

Yeah I have a bumper and a film for the front screen, but I think I'll not buy yours for the problem in photo. As previously said in this thread, I was searching something like the film described HERE but couldn't find any...

The same one as that one on Aliexpress is 2.20 USD = 1.50 British pounds including free delivery, 5 times cheaper, where the guy in Derby probably buys them from.
