Awesome music player! - EVO 4G General

*not taking credit for this, just want to share!*
So I found an awesome music app. I've tried a lot of them on the market, but I wasn't a big fan of any of them, and the stock one was bland and laggy for me.
So I found the MIUI music player. It is amazing. Smooth as butter and very well put together. It works on AOSP roms, not sure about sense (could someone check??).
https://www.box.net/shared/xyxs01htcsll154ybq11
Download to SD card. Use root explorer to rename the stock music app to "music.bak". Then copy MIUI music to /system/app and name it "music.apk". Long press it and change permissions to match everything else. Reboot and enjoy!
Comment and let me know what roms it works on and what you think!

That was half the reason I moved to MIUI in the first place... ANd that was on version 1! lol

I agree to all...its amazing!
MIUI is a refreshingly gorgeous alternative. All the built-in applications have been revamped to add more functions and improve their performance, and you will have a lot of fun downloading themes and customizing the look of every tiny nook on your phone.

It works on sense. You don't have to use a file explorer. Just side load the apk

New ROM

I am currently running SkyRaider's Vanilla RC3 and LOVE it! I am looking for a new ROM to play with though. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Virtuous 2.7 running Kings #4 kernel is what I'm rocking right now, if you're into a Sense-based ROM it's quite good

The only thing I like about sense is the clock and as you can see below I've got that covered

I tried an aosp rom the other day, Ruby. It isn't quite stable yet (random reboots throughout the day) but its an interesting change of pace from a sense-based rom. The super smooth scrolling is really nice too!
In the end I went back to SRV due to the instability, but I made a nandroid in case a more stable update is released.

Whoa that sense clock is stunningly close to the official! Could you tell me the name of that widget? I've tried fancy widget (rides too high and close to the notification bar) and Weather & Toggle Widget (background cuts off at the bottom too short). Both are similar but not faithful to the original.. the one in your screencap looks identical to the original HTC one, minus the color scheme of course.
I'm a graphics guy so yes I am super picky

I didn't do it personally
But the easyest way I heard it to rip the .apk apart with a program like a zip extractor and edit the files from there then rezip them and digitally sign the application
Again I can be wrong but if anyone knows how I would like to learn the exactly correct way

This is correct. You need to unzip it with winzip. Go to the \res\drawable-hdpi and edit the .png files that you want a different color. Then you need to use winzip and zip it as a .apk file then have it digitally signed and then zipalign it.

I have a nandroid of Virtuous 2.7 on my phone. Once I went Vanilla it's hard to go back to a Sense ROM. I think I'm going to give CM6 a run, but I have heard a lot about the instablility of AOSP ROMs and that kind of scares me. SkyRaider is rock solid, and would hate to go to something that's not stable.
Redemption
I've bee pretty happy with the Redemption Rom. Why?
Depending on what you want, stock app-wise, it's easily customizable as far as adding/removing what you want. Same story with the 'value added' goodies Lou bakes into the ROM itself. He included several apps in the load that I didn't know I would want or use, until I tried them - now they seem essential to any ROM, imho.
It's easily customizable via the links he provides in the main thread, and there's elements you can easily add/remove based on where he put them in the ROM itself.
For me, this one's my daily, and if you like sense, there's a menu of tweaks/options you can do with this ROM to make it all your own.
Agreed, Redemption is a great one. SR Vanilla, and Virtuous are also great. I'm loving Redemption though, great goodies, smooth, plus love the lock screen and notification window.
I do love SR's boot animation, with the Androids popping up...
Sent from HTC Incredible, Redemption 2.0.4, King's BFS #5 kernel OC to 1.113, s-off
The only thing I have against RR, (minor, to be sure), is the lack of support in ROM manager. I'm lazy, sometimes, and like to check for updates through it or am at work and don't want to bother with a mobile browser. I'm currently switching between Virtuous 3.0.1 and Shadow ROM.

OK I have been using it for two weeks now and I like it better than ADW, Launcher Pro, etc. They are all Launcher2 variants. This is a great home launcher and combined with Nemo it does me well. It has not slowed down for me at all, I'm not sure why it did for you? Could you please post your themed version? I would love to have it on my phone. You need to extract two apk files from a zip and put them in /system/app folder. The reason for that is:after theming alot of apps will only work in /system/app folder and will not install regularly anymore for some reason,if anyone knows why that is I would love to know (and no its not the signature).
Oh and for people that hate all this complicated ADB typing and pushing(i know I do) just download Estrongs File Manager(its free) from the market then go to options menu and turn on "root access" then just copy apk files to /system/app folder,it only takes a minute and you don't even need a pc!

Compared with DI18, you lose the stock Android music app and it's replaced with a touchwiz one. I deleted the music player from the /system/app folder and installed "Android Music" (based off Android 2.3 music player) from the Market.
The stock Android keyboard dictionary doesn't work, fixed that by downloading Gingerbread keyboard from the Market and deleting the stock keyboards from the /system/app folder.
Stock web browser is horribly buggy. I deleted it and installed Dolphin Mini.
It's really fast as far as I've tested.
I've been quite pleased thus far as well. I already found the Epic (even on 2.1) to be snappier than any non-dual core 2.2+ device I've fiddled with. This just makes it that much more smooth/powerful.
Are there any UI differences? Ie, Touchwiz launcher, lock screen, pop up menus, etc?

Yeah you just named like 85% of the apps I use and deleted them. I would do this as well, but I don't know how... yet, I would need a painfully detailed guide or a 4 min or less youtube video showing me ( I'm a visual learner that's how I learned to root and crap). Ill have to do some digging in the forum, wiki and youtube on how todo what you did. Thanks for the heads up, rather prepare before updating and rooting than update and root and not be prepared.

There are a lot of differences. Can't think of them all off the top of my head but here are a few. The settings icons are in color. There is a new messenger app. The lock screen is the same. The answer screen is the same. You can modify the home screen (add, remove rearrange and so on). You can modify the apps section icons. Color scheme on popups and menu items are better IMO. You can modify the tray icons. Media player is TW3 now.
I was really hoping for one of the other touchwiz lockscreens. Do we at least get music controls on the lock screen?

omg what is this?? I go to vibrant dev section and all i see are like 800 roms of miui...
Can someone explain how they differ? I understand some do, such as neobuddy's new rom because of the massive tweaks and mods, but the others? Theres a miui stock, miui.us, miui 360 ... what is this?!?!?
There's only 3? Lol

Its a whole different animal
i'd say the 4 MIUI roms under the same thread has the most support ...
and i got my working GPS using their rom. great work
i was in CM7 too but i just love MIUI for its customisation
On the MIUI discussion. Has there yet been a MIUI published that has an App Drawer built in, or has the capabilities of using one? I tried MIUI a while back but could not get past it not having an App Drawer. I know I move the apps to a folder and have the folder docked but this does not work quite the way I want it to, that and I have over 130 apps, and this takes a long time to move them to a folder. To be honest it is the only thing holding me back from using MIUI again.

Last time I tried, a couple of months ago,I had issues using any other launcher. I was using stock MIUI. If we are able to use additional launchers, I may have to give MIUI another try.
Oh and GOLauncher is what I use with CWM right now. Best Launcher I have found so far.
For one yes you can use any launcher you want and have an app drawer and second there is an alternative app drawer in android developement forum and the market.

Market launchers certainly work fine with MIUI ROMs.... Plus, if anything, you can just make a folder for all of your apps, set it to "arrange alphabetically" and just put all of your apps in that folder.

thinking of trying a different rom. Been using bionix. Would you suggest if MIUI is a good rom to move to? Hows the battery life?
Miui is faster and smoother, battery life isn't quite as good as a 2.2 rom but it's getting better. It's defiantly good enough for a daily driver.

ok, no miui app drawer. if you have 130 apps then i would suggest you sort them by use/function in folders. ie. Social/Tools/Games/etc.
other then the miui.us version all the roms you see are themed variants with additional apps/build.prop tweaks. most are setup by Nick and his team.
i usually just download stock miui, and rip the build.prop out of nicks rom edit it to suit my needs, strip out the crap apps i don't ever use zip and install.

Touchwiz MEMO and TASKMANAGER app for ICS!

I personally LOVE the memo app from Touchwiz, it is the single greatest thing on Touchwiz for me, the music app isn't that bad either but I saw this on Doc's ROM and was curious if it would work on other ICS roms, and to my surprise some of the apps did, so here it is, i just put it into a .zip so thank him for making it compatible etc etc.
*THIS WAS TESTED ON AOKP BUILD 27*
Instructions *these are also on the .zip*
Put these .APK's on your phone's SD Card
then use something like ROOT EXPLORER or any other file manager which will allow you
to go into System/App
Move/Copy The APK's into system/app
BE SURE TO SET THE PERMISSIONS AS THE OTHER APPS IN THE FOLDER ARE
permission: rw-r--r--
REBOOT, and find the app in your drawer and see it work
Developer who got this to work; Vibranturk Developer of Doc's Master ICS
The TW LAUNCHER,CALCULATOR from the ROM was not found working, so i didn't include it.

Taskmanager? In the thread you spoke about memo and the music player. Maybe I missed it.

PM me if the link goes down as its being uploaded on my personal BOX account.

The original touchwiz MEMO app, not the one with Galaxy Note or anything.

This may be off topic but in terms of TouchWiz apps, I would love to see the camera app ported...Been running ICS and before that CM7 and other custom non-TouchWiz roms for so long but I have always had qualms about the stock camera app with these custom and AOKP roms... The TouchWiz camera app implements panorama and other modes flawlessly but AOKP Android roms have always had flaky camera apps... Even with my Nexus One running stock gingerbread the camera app left a lot to be desired.. It is understandable that on my Vibrant the AOKP ICS camera app is sketchy but I hope Google gets on paar to some of these Android over lays (TouchWiz and Sense) in terms of camera app polish with Jellybean.. *end rant*
I will stay waiting on a TouchWiz camera app port for ICS, although it seems hopeless due to framework incompatibility..
Just putting my 2 cent.
Hi,
Thanks for porting these apps.
They work fine on my GNex LTE.
Just wanted to add that both these apps. work fine just like any other apk files.
I mean just installing them like any other apk works.
Putting them in system/apps will install them on reboot but there isn't any need for that, at least now on my phone.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Thanks so much, working flawless.
I just never got used to any other memo app after changing to custom ROM.
Can we a get a Task Manager widget please?
I have a problem with memo app. When i create new memo and save it, they dont in top, they in bottom?????? I have to slide down to bottom to see new memo

Sorry for the late reply. I did not make this app, I'm just sharing it. I'm not sure if any bug fixes can be done to this since its just a port from the Touchwiz Framework.
Also, PM'ing me 4 times with the same message isn't going to help.
If you really want an app like this memo, maybe you should try a MIUI ROM, they have a really good and even better notes app.
Working great on my GS2 CM9!! thx
Thanks, good work

Confirmed working on Vibrant running 7/4 Gummy nightly and SGS2 running AOKP Milestone 6. Thanks.
Great work. Could you port the Task Manager to Jelly Bean, since it doesn`t seem to work on it, would be really great
Edit: It works on Jelly Bean also, I just had to install it as a normal apk and not copy it to system\apps
