Hello all,
I am running CM9 on my Nook Color off an SD and I can't get many tablet only apps in the market, they say my device is incompatible. Is there any way to get those to work? Do I have to change the DPI? If so, to what?
Anything else I could do?
Thanks in advance!
Which apps? Have you tried build.prop editing?

Specifically I am trying the Amex tablet app right now.
I have tried the build.prop trick, but not with the galaxy tab info. I will give this a shot. THANKS!
Shoot, just noticed that you're using CM9. You'd probably be better off using Xoom build.prop settings: http://pastebin.com/ggrbByQf
The Amex tablet app isn't showing for my nook with galaxy tab edit but it does show up for my K1 with the Xoom edits (which likely means the app is only for honeycomb or above).

I have a kindle fire I recently purchased and I have tried a few different cm7 and cm9 roms, but the scrabble app doesn't seem to work in any of them, or rather, it works but won't go full screen and simply loads in a tiny window.
Any idea how to resolve this? I have tried disabling and enabling the disable fullscreen option, but it doesnt seem to fix it.
Thanks
It works on stock if you buy it through the Amazon Appstore

There isn't any way to get this on a nonstock rom is there?
Also, can you explain a little more about the lcd resolution?
Thanks to the both of you!
EDIT: I tried switching to the hellfire rom and scrabble seems to work perfectly well on it.
Hello all, Hoping for some help here.
more and more I've noticed that the HBOgo App is giving me errors with can't view video at this time, so I checked if there was an update. I found out there was an update and I updated the app. Now it shows that its not compatible with my device and shuts down. Any ideas on what I can do to get around it?
thanks in advanced for any help?
It would help if you gave some information about what ROM you are running. The app doesn't work with ICS yet so if you are using CM9 you will have to wait for HBO to make that update.

I just updated to 7.2rc. I was going to reload it again from the googleplay but I can't find it anymore. Now any time I try to use the one I already have it shows HBOgo is not supported on this device. can someone that has it working confirm if there is an update available on the market.
Thanks

I have 7.2RC1 and market found it (v1.4), downloaded it and it runs (but I am not a subscriber so I can't view anything). And I am using an old version of market since I hate play store. If you PM me with your email address, I will send you the apk.

thanks for all the help. it started working after I reset the screen density to anything other than 160 165 works so does 180.
i changed this line "ro.sf.lcd_density= 160" of the build.prop file in system folder and it changed my bar to the look of the xoom tablet. i changed the line ro.sf.lcd_density= 150 and it was too small and i took it back up to 160 and it looks a lil better. i didn't take it under 150 so i don't know how low and how high you can decrease and increase it to. i think i heard if you change the line i just told you about than it will tell you some apps in the market store are compatible. i know quick office pro hd works on the nexus seven but im tring to get it to show up in the Google play store so i can purchase it. is what i heard true, if so than what value should i change the line to?

But that doesn't give the tablet interface (Xoom style)
FYI - I've read (have *not* confirmed though) that if you un-install and re-install the Play store *after* resetting your DPI value, that it'll use your new dpi value accordingly, so that you can see all apps the Play store.. Again, I haven't tested - just reporting what I read...

I tried the DPI hack... and it's just that. A hack. All the apps have really small text, and layout, on basically every app. Even if you up the text size, it just doesn't look right...the layout is still too small.
The only real solution is the Hybrid rom, ParanoidAndroid. It took a while before I finally decided to try it, but I'm glad I finally did. It's the best ROM I've tried so far, and I don't think I will be able to switch to a new ROM in the future, unless it lets me set DPI for individual apps. In addition to DPI it lets you change the layout of the app. [the devs usually have 3 modes for the apps, so that it can run on a phone, tablet, or whatever..] so you can even make the Tablet UI with the default text size. Or you can put the DPI down a little, like I did, because I like the status bar a little smaller than full-size.

Hi, I'm using the PA ROM right now,and I'm just wondering what you did to get the PlayStore to allow the download. I know you can use the PA settings to change DPI and workspace so can I do it in there? Or do I have to edit the build.prop file? I bought it for the Asus Transformer TF101. I haven't been able to use it for m NExus 7 and I really do want to check it out .
A better option is to create a /data/local.prop file (rw-r--r--) with the following in it:

This has the benefit of affecting only the display and not how Google Play sees the Nexus

Is there a way to get Google Play to see the nexus at a 10" tablet temporarily, so I can install QuickOffice Pro HD?

Hmm.... They might be using the model number to decide whether the app is compatible, so I don't think this will work, but you can try:
Open Google Play, press Home, press Recents, long-press Google Play in the list, then select Hybrid settings.
Leave the DPI alone [it should be at 213], swype over to the "Layout." In the drop down menu, select the highest value [should be 1000px, or maybe 800px]. Then tap the Apply button [left of the top-right corner].

You don't have to do anything, Google Play runs by default at stock DPI [213], so on ParanoidAndroid (unless you change it), it works out of the box.
Thanks for the help. Well I ended up trying to edit the DPI and/or the layout settings in different combinations while rebooting my tablet each time. I even changed the build.prop to see if I could download it. Nothing worked so I set it back to default/stock. Yet, when I looked online to "install" to device from the Google Play Store website, it worked for some reason. I have no idea what I did...
Anyway, on the side , since I edited the build.prop, do I need to do anything else other than reverse the changes? I switch the line back from 160 to 213. From what I searched that seems to be it...

Try wiping data of the app, or reinstalling the app, also try using 160 dpi as I'm pretty sure most apps run best in tablet ui at 160.
If it works at 160 or in phone ui at 213 dpi, then that would be what's causing the problem.

There's a different version on the YouTube app for tablets, is the tablet version installed or is it the 'phone' version?
I'm using 160 and have no issues. I've set that in /data/local.prop with

Tablet version.
My Play Store it's for tablets.
In that case try changing your dpi to 160 and see if that helps, you can do this either in build.prop or local.prop (or in CM settings if it allows it, not sure if you can though as I haven't used CM on my device), and give it a reboot after.
I've changed my dpi to 160 in build.prop and the tablet version of YouTube works fine for me, so maybe your dpi is causing an issue.
Flashed another rom and problem solved...
Hoping someone has some suggestions here. The way amazon Kindle works is that certain items are available on tablets and others on any device (smartphones). So if I install the Kindle app, certain items can't be downloaded to the Note 3 because they are "not compatible" (which is crap because the N3 has more resolution and power than my tablet which is compatible).
I'm thinking that the build.prop setting for phone or tablet determines which the app thinks it is installed on. I was hoping that Xposed had a means to fool this. I've tried different DPI settings (and clearing app data) and can change the layout but the app still classifies as a phone (you can tell by the device name). What I don't know is if this is determined on install or initial launch. If it is on install, could app settings even help?
Am I missing something in app settings or Xposed that could handle this?
Sorry, was replying before proper reading. Never mind...
Bump. Any ideas?
Did you try clearing the app data after using app settings?

I did, yes. Is it possible that the install procedure sets the tablet/phone option for the first launch? I don't know if android apk installs have that kind of script capability or not?
If that was the case, would the build prop need to be modified? I have to believe that it reads the build prop to see phone or tablet. And if that is the case, is there no way for xposed to do it?
