Hoping someone has some suggestions here. The way amazon Kindle works is that certain items are available on tablets and others on any device (smartphones). So if I install the Kindle app, certain items can't be downloaded to the Note 3 because they are "not compatible" (which is crap because the N3 has more resolution and power than my tablet which is compatible).
I'm thinking that the build.prop setting for phone or tablet determines which the app thinks it is installed on. I was hoping that Xposed had a means to fool this. I've tried different DPI settings (and clearing app data) and can change the layout but the app still classifies as a phone (you can tell by the device name). What I don't know is if this is determined on install or initial launch. If it is on install, could app settings even help?
Am I missing something in app settings or Xposed that could handle this?
Sorry, was replying before proper reading. Never mind...
Bump. Any ideas?
Did you try clearing the app data after using app settings?

I did, yes. Is it possible that the install procedure sets the tablet/phone option for the first launch? I don't know if android apk installs have that kind of script capability or not?
If that was the case, would the build prop need to be modified? I have to believe that it reads the build prop to see phone or tablet. And if that is the case, is there no way for xposed to do it?

I wanted to download the Kindle app from the market, but I got the message "This app is incompatible with your AT&T Motorola MB860". I went to Amazon app store downloaded the same version and it worked fine. I sent an email to Android market support and was very unhappy with part of their message
I see that you have a non-standard value for screen density value of 260.
You will find that this will cause you to be unable to download many apps.

Did I authorize them to look at data on my phone without realizing it? What else can they look at? The market on the web has the same message that the app is incompatible with my phone.
here's the entire response:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
Have you installed an Android operating system on your device that has not
been authorized by your device's manufacturer? I can troubleshoot your
issue to the best of my abilities, but please be aware that unauthorized
operating systems (custom roms) may have limited functionality due to the
compatibility of the device. For best results, I recommend using the
authorized Android operating system provided by your manufacturer that can
be obtained from their website or your carrier.
The previous version of the Market app, did not check the screen density
for compatibility. Version 3.0.27+ does.
I see that you have a non-standard value for screen density value of 260.
You will find that this will cause you to be unable to download many apps.
I recommend that you reset your screen density parameter to one of the
standard values. The standard values for screen density are 160, 240, and
120.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.
Regards,
Dean

Did you consider that your market app might tell what screen density your phone has for compatibility on the market?
No point getting completely paranoid over it

I forgot to mention that the market on the web has the same message that the app is incompatible with my phone.
because your market app is reporting to google what your screen density is, causing the market to believe you're incompatible with all these apps. it's part of the market app's function.

so I'm supposed to actually think before I freak out? I don't know if that's possible - the mouth always works before the brain and I guess my hands typing works before the brain too.
One reason more to stick with the old market. v2.3.6 is way to go. It still allows to fake network provider, which allows me to have apps that are unavailable in my country
Maybe u can try 'market enabler' and create a fake region as T-Mobile .. hope this can help u

Yes, yes you did. And anything they want.
Why not just use an app to change the screen density? That would be a very easy fix! There is a list of root apps in my sig and one changes density. Prob solved.
Hi Guys!
New to android after years with my iphone, and I'm loving it!
However, everytime I try to open a link etc I get a box that says "complete action using" and a list of apps I can open it with.
For example, a youtube link in the browser will ask me if I want to make the youtube app the default action.
I click ALWAYS, but then the next link I click on asks me the same message again. No matter what I do, I can not get my phone to set any defaults.
It's getting very frustrating making extra button presses to open every file and/or link on my phone.
Anyone else have this happen?
If I go to the task manager, I can see the defaults I want are in fact there, and I can clear them and start over but no matter what I do the phone just won't use them.
I'm using the stock launcher, and having the same problems with Nova.
Thanks for your advice!
Hi,
Out of interest, did you have this issue before installing Nova?

to be honest, I'm not 100 percent sure because I'm so new to this phone.
Do you recommend me uninstalling Nova? If thats what it takes to fix it, then I don't need Nova that badly!
edit: ok I removed Nova and the problem still exists
Am I the only one with this problem?
Hi,
Something to test/try but pick an app that you don't mind losing your settings or data for, e.g YouTube.
Go into Settings, General (tab), Application manager, All (tab), and find an app you've already set to be default (but it keeps asking). Go into the app and clear cache and data. Now open a link or whatever, get asked the 'default' question etc and repeat to see if that cures it.
If not we might look to clear the main cache next (will explain). Don't be put off Android or the N3 with this - both are fabulous and worst case it might just be necessary to backup your stuff and factory wipe/reset.

well, the solution for me was to factory wipe, bummer! problem fixed though.
If this happens again, I hope to find a better solution!
Thanks for your help Jonty
You could have tried clearing the defaults for the app first in settings/general/applications. (clearing the cache and data does not clear the defaults, that button is a bit lower.)

Hello,
I have cleared my main cache and still every single time I click on (for example) a name on the imdb.com website it asks me to choose and app. I have selected the App multiple times and ALWAYS hit "Always" when I choose it. Can I get help on backing up my data and then resetting my phone and then putting data, contacts, photos, etc back onto my phone.
Thank you,

I had successfully rooted my phone last night. I was using my titanium back up pro in freezing a lot of the AT&T bloatware. But I cannot seem to find where is the CIQ located. Do anyone knows the name, extension, or what exact field under that I will need to freeze?
I search numerous times on the forums and everywhere and I cannot locate that information of exact name. The CIQ will say something about com.ciq blah blah but on the list of titanium it is not there for me to freeze. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
I use system tuner free. Go into system details and uncheck the 7 carrier iq files.

Thank you for the response.
Does system tuner permanently kill it like TiBackup? I want something I will permanently freeze it or uninstall it. When I went to google play, it stated that program is already outdated. I still try to download it. They have so many options. Can you walk me thru on which option I will pick under it and steps locating it?
As for others do you have any TiBackup instructions to share on where to locate and freeze? I have an older version TiBackup. Would that be the reason not seeing the CiQ? Any screenshots would be more than welcome.
Thanks!

Yes system tuner will keep it disabled unless you remove the app.

Found all 7 thank you!! Took me a while to figure out. It is System>Android System> (scattered CIQ in different categories).
I wonder why TB cannot see this part.
So, being a paranoid, I wanna take precautions regarding my N4, so in case it's stolen I might have a chance of recovering it. What app(s) should I install to track it? I heard Cerberus is ok? I activated ADM but I see that unless I have data/wifi on, it doesn't find it. I have location access on. Do all these tracking apps need to have data on before being stolen lol? thanks!
Yes, you'll need some kind of internet connectivity. Some apps like Cerberus allow you to send text commands like "Cerberus enable mobile data" or something like that. You should definitely take a look at Cerberus, it has so many features.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I second the suggestion of cerberus, you can send text commands and turn things on from the web interface, as well as being able to hide it from the app drawer.
Also if you are rooted, you can make it a system app, which means even if a thief factory resets your phone, cerberus will still be there.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
thanks guys, will look into cerberus with more detail. glad to hear it has an option to activate it on the go.
just saw there's an app called Android Lost that has pretty much the same features as Cerberus( saw that avast/lookout have an antivirus too which I just don't need). My question is, can AL be installed as a system app, so it still works even if the phone is reset? thanks!
I like the phone, but the 16gb causes a lot of concern. After downloading my music from Amazon, it's almost gone.
I can't find an option to put music from Amazon on my sd card, is that hte new kit kat "feature"?
Also, the test message preview on my lock screen only says "New Message", ther eused to be an option that gave me a preview of the actual message..is it gone?
On the Note 3, it had a setting where screenshots would enter auto edit mode, came in real handy for me. S5 doesn't seem to have this?
When I disabled my magazine, my home screen transitions isn't continuous ..I know I seen the s5 do this in review videos.
Did you root your phone yet with Towelroot? If so go to play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix and install this to get read/write to your sd card. The other stuff I can't help you with. Sorry.

Not yet. I will this weekend tho. Thanks bud
Before you root you may want to look into fix for SHealth and ISIS Wallet (if you use it). You have to stop SHealth and Health Services in app manager and clear data and cache before you installed Xposed. You may even have to uninstall their updates if I remember as well.
Install xposed and it's service , then update Shealth and it should work fine. Once you get that done install ISIS Root Bypass 3.0 module for xposed and check it in modules and reboot and the Wallet will work fine after that.
These were two things that I use often and really had to get working to be happy with root.

Why put off until tomorrow, what you could do today, and prevent yourself from being screwed by VZW when they push 4.4.3 soon, and Root may not work with it?
In the text messaging app you'll see a setting to display the message on the lockscreen instead of new message.
Plug your phone into the computer and drag and drop the music to the SD or use root explorer to move it there.. You don't need root to do this.
No, the S5 cannot auto enter edit mode as far as I know, maybe clear defaults of gallery and set images to auto open in an editor?
As far as continuous transitions just use apex or Nova.

How did you "disable" My Magazine exactly? I was able to long press home screen, choose Home screen settings, and uncheck My Magazine. This allowed me to scroll continuously or not.

You'll have to edit a file using Root Explorer then if you disable My Magazine you'll have endless home screen scrolling. I use Nova launcher which already has the option in settings. If you definitely have to have the stock launcher and you can't get infinite scrolling to work let me know I'll tell you which file to edit.
