'''Voice Call Receiver
The GALAXY Tab 7.7 calling function has been upgraded to let you make and receive voice calls privately by using .Receiver Mode. in public places. You no longer need a headset or Bluetooth for voice calls."""
I just read this...
I dont plan to use a bluetooth or earphones...
Does any-1 know how or where to access this function??
Receiver mode..... Iknow it's gonna look funny holding this big sucker up.. But oh well... I do it with my GNote and did it with my GTab 7.. P1000 and I will do it with this 6800 too....
What have folks found out about "Receiver Mode"???
Thanks
I don't think you need to do anything specific to access "Receiver Mode", just don't have a wired or bluetooth headset connected to the tab. When you make a phone call, place the tab to your ear, just like a normal phone. That's "Receiver Mode".
If you want hands-free, hit the speaker button on the dialer once you are calling.
one thing I just found out...
When using it as a phone... regular mode.. no bluetooth.. no speakerphone..
Hold the tab to your head just like a regular phone..
ear-speaker at the top and the mic at the bottom..
NOW..if using SPEAKERPHONE...
Hold it up-sidedown...
The bottom speakers at the top and the top mic will now be at the bottom..
YES.. these (6800's) Do have 2 mics.. 1 at the top and 1 at the bottom....
So when using speakerphone.. hold it up-sidedown... use the top mic..
it seems to switch mics on it's own depending...
good luck

Isn't the mic on the "top" side (close to the phone receiver) a secondary noise-cancelling mic?
I don't know... possibly...
I did.field testing using my homes speaker phone and doing tapping and speaking in both mics in both receiver and speakerphone modes.
.
You may be right... but I left a lot of.voice.mails.that never got heard cause I spoke into the wrong Mic. I don't know.. now I do...
I use the speakerphone alot...
Hard of hearing, I reckon

I'm REALLY tired of small phones. I'm ready to let go of my Tilt and make the jump to an X7501 Advantage. My question is can it operate as a handheld phone? Can the phone be used w/o any other hardware? I downloaded the users manual and I cannot find where it has a built-in front-facing microphone and speaker. Thanks.

the advantage, in my opinion, was not meant to be used as a handheld phone. there is a speaker on both sides of the unit but when you take a call it's more on "conference" mode where everyone else will hear the other caller's voice. the microphone is on the front face of the unit. it's the little hole / dot on the lower left side of the screen....which i thought was a reset slot when i first got my unit ages ago =) you can talk freely, but the drawback is the privacy of your conversation. you can put the unit close to your ear, but it seems a little akward to have something that big being used as a handphone...no offense to anyone who does and to each his own =)
with that, you have 2 options:
1) plug in the 3.5mm handsfree jack. you'll probably have to put your advantage in your pocket or strapped to your side with the wire dangling out
2) most of the chaps here use bluetooth units (myself included)
cheers

Thanks for the info! That's too bad about the speaker. If this thing had a built-in earpiece and a slide keyboard it would be the absolute perfect phone in my opinion.
Believe me, you aren't the first person to complain about the lack of a private earpiece (and lack of vibrate). The best work-around is to use a Jabra BT8010, which gives you vibrate, caller ID, and private conversation. After a year of that I got tired of carrying the headset and I just hold it up to my ear with the volume as low as it can go - only for the occasional call in public. I usually can find a semi-private place to chat for a minute or two. My headset is left at work so I can listen to music and take private calls there, and a BT-enabled radio takes care of calls in the car.
Been noticing that I say ok Google at the top of the phone and nothing happens then say it at the bottom and it works. Tested with the phone in safe mode and it still happened. If i block the bottom microphone it can't pick up anything. Anyone else can test this to see if they have the same issue or if it's just me that got a defective device.
Thanks in advance
I think the top microphone is for noise cancelation. So I think it's normal.

It was my understanding that they both pick up sound and noise cancel between them. That's the way it's been on other phones I have had.
Tried mine, and it is the same as yours.
I also tested it by using the voice recorder app, speaking into the top microphone while covering the bottom mic and then playing back to see if it is picking up sound. The playback was very quite. However it works normal when using the bottom mic.
Additional info, the phone user guide indicates that the voice recorder app has two modes of operation - standard and interview. In interview mode both top and bottom mics are in operation. I put the voice recorder app into interview mode and run the same test ( covering the bottom mic and speaking into the top mic) , this time the playback was loud and clear.
So it might be that in normal operation the top mic operates in noise cancellation mode as suggested above.
The bottom mic is designed to take your voice input. The top mic is designed to hear ambient noise, and subtract that information from the signal the bottom mic sends to the phone, reducing the amount of noise on your call or recording. That's the way all my phones with a noise cancelling mic work.
It works with the voice recorder

Hello, the top mic works with voice recorder when you choose the "interview" mode from the 3 options on top.
I know for sure that both mic works on mine. I don't know whether some apps will use the top mic only for noise cancelation, as others have mentioned.
I used an app called "Easy Voice Recorder Pro" and enabled Stereo recording in the settings in this app. The top mic works as left, and the bottom one works as right. You can try gently rubbing your fingers over the mic area to see if it picks up the sound and play it back wearing a headphone.
As others are saying.
The top moc is use for phone calls.
You can use the top mic for interview mode.
This is all normal
Hey,
I was swapping out my sim card and not paying attention - I accidentally pressed my sim opener into the other little hole that is near the sim card opening hole.
As it didnt open and I wasnt looking I naturally pressed harder, then i looked and realized I am pressing in the wrong hole!
Bit worried I might have damaged something, I hope this hole is not for mic or anything, I have googled but I cannot find out what this hole is for.
The hole in question is the one to the right of the sim card tray, there is only one other hole on the top of the bezel and this is the one I pushed into
Mic hole

Thanks, is this the mic that is only used when the loudspeaker is, as I presume the mic when using the phone normally is at the bottom of the phone

Yes but when I activate speaker in-call, only top mic reives my voice. That means not for only cancellation. Hope hasnt damaged it..

Skyhigh too, if you have seconday device near you or someone's, call and check if you wonder, never mind..
I tested the top mic.
The scenario is when a call is active:
- when normal speaker is on the top mic does nothing and the bottom mic receives sound.
- when loudspeaker is on the top mic picks up sound and the bottom mic turns off
Try is, make a call to another phone, play some music or something into the the top and bottom mic's, you will notice that the top mic only receives the sound when the galaxy has its loudspeaker on - also, when the loudspeaker is on the bottom mic doesnt receive any sound.
ps, luckily there is no damage to it.
I have 2 edge+ and I tried the one I pressed into by accident, then immediately after I tried the other one.
The sound on the other end of the phone is the same. Means the little mic at the top is pretty strong, must have a mesh gauze or something protecting it?
Anyone have a pic of the internal part>

Yup, thats what I said. Glad to know its not damaged.
I realize this is an old thread. But I just did the same thing with my note 8. OP did you ever run into issues after you did this?
OMG. I just did the same thing. On an old note 5.
I did this on edge plus but thought that was IR sensor, googled but no info to find and finally here...I hope it is not damaged & even if, much relaxed to know it is secondary in a sense, and does not harm the functioning...
I don't know why so sudden my V20 got problem with it's mic.. There is even a bigger problem which is I don't even know what to be replaced now..
There is 2 situation here :
1 - When in call, with normal mode..everything is working fine but whenever i'm trying to put my phone to loudspeaker mode.. The people whose in call with me is claiming that there is a dead silence when i'm in loudspeaker mode..
Same goes when i'm in Whatsapp Videocall as example, i can hear them but they can't even hear me..
2 - When i'm doing recording with HD Voice Recorder app, the left channel won't even got anything recorded.. Only the right channel does the job..
Same goes with video recording, only right channel does the job while the left channel sound records nothing..
I'll be informed that V20 have 3 mic and it is obviously one at top and one at the bottom while another one is inside the phone nearby the earpiece if i'm not mistaken.. so now, i'll need help.. Which mic should i'll replace to get everything working again?
I'll believe my top mic is broken but which one? The one at the left before the earpiece or at the right next to earpiece? HELPPpPpppPpppPp
nevermind, got mine fixed.. just replace the new mic at the top and now i have back my fully functional V20 again..
i'll never know that phone is using a different mic for normal call mode and loudspeaker call mode.. Now i'm feeling like an idiot because everytime i'll do loudspeaker, i do scream at the bottom mic while it is using top mic ATM.. gosh
I just got mine and no one could hear me, i pushed a thumb tack in the bottom mic hole because it looked like a little plug or plastic was blocking it and and now it works fine, mine was a refurb phone
Bottom mic
My phone mics worked in speaker phone calls but not talking through the regular in-call mic. I had a repair man change the bottom mic today. He had to install 4 mics to get it and the one that worked was out if a Samsung phone! Cost me USD$60. Apparently my phone had water damage before I bought it used. That's annoying but I'm back in business!
I am in the same exact situation. Replaced the main loudspeaker, top two earpiece speakers and still my voice won't come through on the other end of a normal headset mode call. Only can speak through loudspeaker. What part must I replace? I'm thinking normal headset mode sound is received through the pinhole area next to the 3.5mm jack. What part do I replace?! It's getting personal now. I will fix this phone!!
Not counting the two earpiece speakers up top on the mainboard, and the large loudspeaker on the bottom what other speakers are there for me to replace?
There appears to be a mic at the top of the phone and a mic at the bottom of the phone, I assume to record in stereo. For voice calls on speakerphone, which mic is active? I'm trying to figure out which is the best way to hold the phone when it's noisy and I want to speak directly into the mic.
And for other functions like google assistant, should I be speaking into the top or bottom mic?

I don't think so. The top one is the noise cancellation mic
