Hello all
I think my miniport is broken on my Nexus S, since every computers just say unrecognized devices and keeps mounting/unmounting it... Since warranty is not an option (bought the phone in US, live in Europe), I would like to ask if anyone know if it is possible to replace the miniport? Either myself or at a phone repairshop? Just wanting to check before running around searching for a repairshop...
Try a new cord before you blame the phone itself. Both my and my wife's original Samsung power cords went to pot in less than 9 months. Mine's dead (OK, the spaghetti sauce might have had something to do with it.) and hers is having the same mount/dismount issues you describe. I had the same problem with previous cords from LG
I'm currently waiting for this one to come in the mail from Amazon: Mediabridge - USB 2.0 A-Male to Micro-B Cable (6 Feet). It has very good reviews and a reasonable price.

I picked up a couple aftermarket usb cables of Ebay for my tab so I could connect it at the office and use them in the charger for travel. I realized today I cant connect to my PC when I use the aftermarket cables. Just a heads up
You have to get the cable that matches your tab model. The pin outs are not the same between models.
Where??? I always got my accessories for my phones on Ebay without issue.
I believe what the OP is saying is make sure get charge and sync cable. I'm guessing the one he bought was only capable of charging. Fewer pins to connect = cheaper costs.
The pins are different for different models. When I bought a second cable off ebay, I couldn't get the cheapest, because it wouldn't work for my model. I had to buy the at&t model.
I bought a couple of these usb sync/charge cable recently from the eBay and gad no problems with them. They came with proper boxes wraped up.
If yoy need the link, let me know and i will send it to you.
Thanks.

Galax Tab Sprint Cable
I have the oem cable and this aftermarket cable from ebay.
I've been using the cable from ebay since I got it.
The cable works fine and is longer.
Again I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab

Just (arrived yesterday) got an after marked cable from ebay, just tried to use it and my Tab appears to shut down (black screen, no response from buttons etc).
Luckily I have my original cable with me but now that's doing the same (into a PC and mains).
Is this a massive coincidence of have I just goosed my beloved Galaxy Tab?
I bought a number of cheap retractable cables from ebay and they all work well for sync and charge.

so theres any diference between the samsung cable and a generic one or its just a problem picking up the one needed for the model u have?

I really hate that the OEM cables are so dang short. I'd love to find a couple of longer ones.
Sent from Galaxy Tab with XDA app
I use my OEM cable tho it is short, I use my USB cable extension from my logitech wireless mouse, It works just fine.
Of course when syncing I plug it direct to PC
I bought two different from DealExtreme a couple of months ago.
Both are working fine on my Dutch operator-free stock rom Tab.
The cables are a bit thinner then the original but for me works fine both charging and pc connection.
Shipping is free but some packages get lost "somewhere".
So it is just a risk you might want to take.
Only $ 2.90 to lose so for me better then eBay
Example: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/designer-s-data-cable-for-samsung-p1000-1m-length-51931
Bought there very cheap other accesoires as well:
http://s.dealextreme.com/search/p1000
When your at it I think you prefer to order a 2Amp car charger for example as well.
AliExpress also has lot's of items:
http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=charging+p1000&catId=0
Be sure to use a "gold supplier" if you want to have more guarantee that it actually be delivered.
Thans from another dutch guy who borght his stuff at mobilesupplies.nl for reasonable proces. Two charges a Docking station and a bluetooth keyboard in leather case.

Hi, for the last couple of week my micro usb port has been malfuctioning, giving me a hard time to charge my phone. I found some replacement ports on the interwebz but havent found out one that lists the nexus s phone. So... are these ports like universal? or are they different from model to model and brand to brand? thanks!
Hi I would like peoples opinions please. My nexus 7 has annoyingly developed a charging fault and as it is now 13 months old it is out of warranty. It seems hard to source parts for it and as I am not sure whether it is the battery of the usb charging port that is faulty, I suppose I would have to send it to Asus for them to diagnose the fault and quote a price to repair it.
My thinking is that it is probably not worth paying for a repair to a 13 month old device when I could buy a new one. As I am in the uk I would presume the price for a repair would be at least £75 depending on what the fault is.
Forgot to mention that I have tried all the fixes for battery and charging problems and could easily fit a new battery( if I could find one in the uk) but as I said before I am not sure what the problem is it could be the usb port is faulty.
Has any of you in the UK had a Nexus 7 repaired and what did you pay if it was out of warranty
Cheers
Nexus04
My 16gb nexus 7 is having trouble charging. I thought it was the charger but even buying a new one did no good nor did any of the several I have around my house. I need to know if anyone knows where I can buy a replacement USB port for my tablet. I can find them on ebay but I can't really the point in spending $50+ for a part for a tablet that is this old. If I buy a Dock for $25 on amazon will I still be able to transfer files and use adb with my computer using the dock. I would assume not because the Dock I used to have for my Nexus S wouldn't interface with my PC for anything other than charging but I haven't used a pogo pin device before.
If I go the dock route is ADB over WIFI reliable enough for regular use?
My kid tried to put micro usb cable into axon7 charging port, which broke the pins of charging port.
Axon 7 is not available in India and no service centers also. Is it possible to replace this charging port with some other phone port.
I went to local mechanic and he tried with OP2 and Pixel phone charging port. But they did not fit.
Any suggestions.

If you can't get a new port, it will need a new mainboard. Possibly better just to replace the phone.

He'll just need the USB PCB like this one ^^. Not a whole new mainboard.

That's good to know
So next question, how old is it? If over a year, maybe have a new battery in it whilst it's apart.

lol if you buy that you'll have to desolder the old one's pins and solder the new. They are SMD and have very little spacing so you'll need experience and a lot of patience to solder it right.
Long story short: Too difficult, simply buy the module that has the port soldered to it and replace it. It is as simple as taking the broken one off and putting the new one, then snapping the connectors in place
I just ordered this yesterday. USB PORT https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-ZTE-Axon-7-A2017-USB-Charger-Charging-Port-Dock-Connector-Flex-Cable-Part/163157945601?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Just wondering if you've had success with the boards you ordered and the phone connects to your service provider all right?
Want to ask a follow-up question since I actually had somewhat the same problem (my charging port melted from what I assume to be a faulty cable). I ordered the daughterboard like the one you linked from a Chinese seller, the phone booted up alright but it gets no service, so I'm just wondering if you've had success getting service after you changed the board? I also started my own thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/help/a2017u-service-daughterboard-charging-t3841038

Yeah I did, I made sure that I connect the skinny one on the right as well as the main flex cable. The old daughterboard with the destroyed port gets service when I put it back in but the new one I got doesn't. So I was wondering if anyone has successfully used one of those daughterboards and gotten service.. Maybe the daughterboard comes from a Chinese version and is having trouble reading SIM from the American version of the stock ROM?

Check the contacts that touch on the antenna pads of the aluminum backplate. Maybe it's got something to do with that

That's checked as well, no problem there. Works with the old daughterboard but not the new one. I think that I got the Chinese version of the daughterboard and my phone is the American version... Was it the same for you when you changed your daughterboard/phone? Did you get service right away? If you have the US version, where did you get the board?
This is relevant to the OP as well since the replacement bought from Aliexpress most likely comes from an A2017 (Chinese) not A2017G(global) or A2017U (US).
