Are there any over-clockable kernels for this phone? Also, I heard rooting is typically dangerous on this phone; any way to unbrick if worst comes to worst?
Sent from my LG-MS910 using xda premium
Yes. A ton. Check the dev section.
There is a certain type of emmc chip that has been known to give out. People call it the "bad emmc." Both my wife and I have it and I flash a LOT. No problems thus far. If it goes bad though, that's it. Its done.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
There are many OC kernels for the phone. The Resource Bible has a list of most of the kernels for our device. Saranhai has made a guide to know if your phone is bricked or not here. You want to check your eMMC chip and many other hardware failures before rooting using Saranhai's guide (again!) from here. If I helped, press the thanks button
I don't understand why you guys keep spoon feeding these people.
The op only has one post, this one. He/she didn't even care to search and get informed. How in the hell you gonna come in here and ask if there's clockable kernels. Seriously? I wish I was a mod. I would give an infraction just for asking that question. Starting to get ridiculous in here now.

Agree 100%. I just wanted to help, although he/she should have done searching....it isn't hard. All in dev or general section!
In regards to the negative posters:
The forums is a place dedicated to people with concern and to people in serious-need of information. In rebut to your misinformed allegations that I "haven't searched, blah blah blah..," you're very wrong. I've kept a steady pace of studying in loo of diving head-first into shallow waters. There were only two, very specific questions. Two that I could not find the answers to, and not because of my "lack of motivation," but due to my ignorance and newly-established relationship with this website. Leave that counterintuitive crap elsewhere and contribute. If you could post unnecessary dribble, you could have just as easily posted something useful.
And to my much appreciated, helpful posters:
Thank you for your simplistic answers that fully answered my question; incredibly helpful select few. Thanks, boys 'n' girls.
I'd rather spoon feed them the answer rather than getting annoyed, flaming them, and all at the same time not answering the question. Because that just causes the thread to go out of hand and have more off topic posts. But if one person just simply answers the question then the thread is left at that.
But to answer, yes there's plenty of kernels for OC'ing. Just search in the dev section for kernels. You really don't need to OC though IMO. 1.1 is highest I ever went with this phone.

Simply put: its not you, its us. Many of us have been here for quite a while, and have had to deal with these type of questions. Now for this post. The fact that you said that you thoroughly searched is complete bull, you can't scroll through the first page without finding a kernel that mentions over locking. Now for the eMMC I understand your lack of knowledge and abundance of concern because these things aren't cheap. Although you could've searched "check emmc" or something along those lines and come up with the "which eMMC do you have" thread. Now don't troll, and please actually search before posting

well obviously newcomers don't like to read. which makes me wonder sometimes...
and newcomers i guess, don't think Q&A exists...
General is for general stuff about the Glacier
Q&A is for Questions and Answers (such as this thread)
Development is for posting your ROM/MODS/TUTORIALS
please read the stickies! they were made for a reason! they are meant to help you!
now, if you had read my stickies before posting, your questions (or one of them) would've been answered already.
Please be more careful next time.
I'm just glad it wasn't postedin the dev section. Hell, that's progress!

I wouldn't worry about the emc chip that the other people were talking about, i have the "bad" chip and my phone is still going strong. And also, i highly doubt you will need a OC kernel, the phone is pretty fast. If you really need to over/underclock use setCPU. If you brick your phone, your screwed, but its pretty hard to do that after u get the engbootloader.

EDIT: woohoo, svetius fixed it... no more "IPHONE" at the top of XDA!!!
Consider this a rant.
I ALWAYS come here to help XDA and our community. I don't believe anyone would doubt that.
I make one thread *HERE* where I comment on not liking the IPHONE FORUMS button at the top...
In there I inquire about having an ANDROID ONLY forum and a MICROSOFT ONLY forum... seems like XDA is getting too big anyway....
I then encourage people to donate to XDA (Like I have)....
and then I get called a troll by some mod I dont know, and my thread gets locked?
Forgive me for helping people here everyday.
Forgive me for encouraging donations to XDA.
Forgive me for not enjoying looking at IPHONE everytime I post about ANDROID.
Forgive me for having an idea to split XDA up into sister sites (like you are doing).
Forgive me FOR BEING A TROLL... that part is laugable. Being called a troll was probably the spark that caused this rant.

Consider me taking an extended break from XDA... if you need help PM me. I will still be lurking in the Dev section. Or trolling I guess?

Agreed, that's why I did it.
And yes, his post was edited. To be fair, I edited my op to be better, but before I could post that I cleaned it up, it was locked.
that seems like a small thing to close a thread up for.
I think that thread was a suggestion, not a complaint, or rant as you said.
a pure suggestion.
and if people were flaming/trolling it, its the moderators duty, and job to handle that, is it not?
but s15, by just reading the OP, you kind of made it sound like a "DO IT NOW" like a command rather than a request, i can see how the mod would get kind of irritated, too.
"the_scottsmen: Obvious trolls are obvious. It's a pity threads like this can't remain civilised...I'll re-open it for now and move it to General."
The way I interpreted his statement was that the thread wasn't so much the issue, but that some of the more extreme comments were.
My personal on the button: I have no problem with it. I'm with birgertime. This site started as a winmo forum and grown into so much more. Why wouldn't they want to advertise their new sister site? ios is a huge platform and I'm sure they would like those eyeballs to head on over here. Plus those mac fans love to throw out money, like for fart apps. xda deserves money, not so much apple.

To the Mod that closed this: This is not IRAN we do not need the "Thought Police" telling us we shouldn't express our consternation with a given product or corporate behavior. I would agree to personally attack another person is inappropriate But, the fact is; in a forum such as this we have the right to express our thoughts about these products. After all, isn't that how the development section got started by a bunch of us who were angry with the corporate Lameness and took to solving the substandard products on our own...?........ Or are supposed to be sheep and stay silent ??? Hmmmm ???

Yeah, it would be nice if the devs would put dates on there updates. Some of the devs have started doing this already but not all.
Also it would be nice if the telus fascinate got its own forum. I've seen more than one person try to put their roms and kernels on a verizon fascinate without knowing there was a difference.
Blackhole 4.2 on EB01 Froyo.
anyway to make it a more friendly place. there are some real jerks posting around here. i mean i understand the frustration that comes from seeing 600 wheres froyo threads or 67 i cant get bln to work on sc 2.7. i have even made a few redu coments myself. but i was also new once too. it would just be nice if the forum could turn the jerky down some. just mho.

Moderating isn't so much about having the device in the forum you are moderating, as it is...well...moderating. I don't own an HTC Rose either, and I have been mod there for around 8 months. I am well versed in the Galaxy S family as 3 of my family members own various ones, including a Fascinate, and I personally run Android on my HD2. No offense taken as it is a valid question.

I am noticing that the releases here don't have dates in their titles, and that is something that needs to be fixed. I am on it like white on rice I tell you! It's going to be the new rule that ALL releases must follow the standard XDA naming scheme that we have adopted, or the threads will be renamed by your's truly.
As far as the Telus Fascinate is concerned, I will look into the matter.

your on point good sir. Q&A forum please
I see that this is a big request...I have been mod for less than 24 hours, and already I have 5 PMs regarding a Q&A forum, and I will take it to the higher ups and see what they think.
+1,000,000 on a Q&A subforum. We need that more than anything else. It'd not only cut back on clutter but keep people from being "rude" or "jerks" (as someone else had said) when responding because there'd be much less chance of questions ending up in the wrong area--which, as we all know,is a hot-button issue.
In addition to this, people who want to help others by answering questions would have to actually seek out that subforum as opposed to just browsing and coming across one of the vast number of question threads in the general section (and since these people are in the Q&A section willingly they should be in a helping mood already).
Just my two-cents.

Although this was already touched on, allow me to elaborate. While we sometimes appoint Forum Mods in their device.home, that is not always possible. In fact, moderators tend to be most effective when outside their comfort zone, as this allows them to be objective.
Aye, thanks for the explanation!
hi sexy.....
q&a forum please
All right people. In order for a Q&A forum to be added, there has to be more than 10,000 posts in the General forum...so we have a ways to go yet. Rest assured though, I am going to crack down on the questions in the Dev section.
Hi peeps. Im starting to get really ticked off by the branding string in the build properties.
What do i have to do in build.prop to stop the android market seeing my xoom as a verizon device and see it instead as a viewsonic gtab or whatever?
Why is everyone posting questions in the dev section?
Because they can't read
Sent from my Evo 4G using Tapatalk Pro
let me explain why...
its because i am a dev myself, and i have been here long enough to know that at this stage in a subforum's development no-one from the dev community ever looks in the general subsection
welcome to reality
also, you should understand this perfectly well having joined in 2009... or are you just a snob with a post count?
One might ask what he is implying you cannot read.
Nothing we say will help. Makes me sad they don't know how to follow the rules and have common sense. All you get by posting a question in a dev forum instead of general or q/a is people telling you to post in the right thread. Just do it and they will help.

Perhaps if any of you tight-ass teenagers had read my reasons for posting in this subsection (its the third post, refer to it if you please), you would think again.
And my app is not stuck in beta, the draft is on the market and all the beta testers have already received their free rc. They are all happy with it.

Now, since we're already here and on the subject... anyone had any success with this?
Apparently being a "DEV" means you no longer have to fallow forum rules and you can pretty much do what ever you want. Sounds cool..
Also since your a developer shouldn't you already know how to change the build.prop?
I for one like the idea of a general topic thread, but I don't understand why someone that trolls is not banned or their comments removed instead of closing the thread.

I agree completely. I'm not trolling with that statement either.
Honestly, now that we have 2 mods another thread COULD be opened. The probability of conflict due to misunderstandings, differences of opinion and, perhaps for some, dislike of a fellow member or members is still pretty high.
XDA stands for something special. It's a community of people trying to advance its knowledge through helping and sharing. Sometimes egos, not excluding mine, get inflated and the perceived need to stand up for what one feels is right becomes too much to let lie.
Sometimes people just throw out bait to see who bites. These instigators are known as "trolls."
The latter is frowned upon, but not necessarily wrong, as long as things aren't pushed too far. The former, well, good luck with that one. Remember that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Doing something wrong just to do it is not ok. Doing something wrong because you feel you are fighting for something important is another story. There is the letter of the law, and the spirit in which the law is written.
Again, I'm honestly NOT trolling.
The few should not be allowed to ruin it for the many.
It would be a great day for our XDA community if our senior moderators would embrace this philosophy and push for this change.

I, for one am guilty of standing up for myself on here. Take it or leave it. I don't let stuff ride. I'm not here to get respect or gain popularity. I do all that I do for fun and to give back. I'm known as a cocky s.o.b but I'm also known to help a fellow member out as much as my knowledge allows. I've spent numerous hours on talk, pm's and email helping people out that just quite can't get it. The thing that just makes me mad is when you see plain stupidity in your face. For example, I've seen at least a dozen people ask "Where is the low mic fix?" when if the person would search or read back 5 pages you'd find the answer. Back when this Glacier thread started you wouldn't even think of asking a question in the dev section without searching at least 10 times and if you asked such a dumb question you would get reprimanded and issued a infraction and your comment deleted. If I would get on someone now, they'd call me names and blah, blah, blah and the poop tossing would begin. The other day I was speaking out against what I thought was unfair in the general section and I don't take back any of it but to have me censored while idiots actually crowd the dev section with questions really made me mad. I have a change of heart now because the moderators are now getting back to the days of old and doing something about the useless posts. +1 to them. Since we had lack of moderating for 6 or so months, the "noobs" that are now senior members think its ok to do what they do and that's when I'm on your ****. Love me, hate me, I honestly don't gaf....end of rant.

I completely agree with you, I think part of it is people want the cool new stuff without actually reading and learning a thing or two; while it's understandable that you may not have time to look things up, we say these things for the benefit of users themselves. Trust me, the benefits of looking up things on your own and asking after you feel you've searched your ass off are far more greater than just being told everything. Going from releasing a port, to building from source, to being asked by awesome to join team inferno and learning some github all within my first few months of developing on my first and only android phone; I'd say I'm pretty good proof of how effective doing a bit of research is (seeing as I had no prior knowledge on how to do ANYTHING but flash a rom). It's not like you're being asked to read a 700 page documentation on the android system... and although better moderation required us to lose our BS thread and possibly some infractions to some long-time users, it's good that we're starting to get that old sense of moderation back...
tldr; XDA isn't here to hold your hand (so don't assume it is), but if you put some time into reading and learning the benefits are basically limitless.

If I would get on someone now, they'd call me names and blah, blah, blah and the poop tossing would begin. i agree. the stupidity around here is just amazing. take the most recent one i've seen for example. i'm not going to name any names, but you know who you are.
this guy comes around and posts a question in the General Section. that's already a mistake. who doesn't know that Questions go in the Q & A Section? and then, since he didn't get any answers, he ventures on over to the Development Section, literally picks a random thread, and posts his question there. his question has NOTHING to do with what the topic is about. completely unacceptable. and then, when another forum member tells him that he shouldn't do that, what does he do? he goes on calling names. hey man, it's not our fault you have no respect for others. all this person could've done was just SEARCH. Google it, Bing it, Yahoo it, i don't care, you could've at least SEARCHED before you asked. yeah okay, maybe if you had only a few post counts, then i would forgive you, but no, this is a Senior Member, with over 200 posts! things like this shouldn't even happen from such an "experienced xda user". and i'm seeing things like this more and more everyday, not just in in Glacier forums, but pretty much everywhere else. noobs come along with only a few posts, and they see that they need 10+ posts to post in the Development Sections. so what do they do? they spam all the other sections and threads until they get more than 10 posts, then they begin spamming the Development Sections with their stupid questions that could've been answered by a search. and that's not all. since they can't spam the Development Sections with under 10 posts, they spam the DEVELOPER'S PMS. i have over 1000 PMs in my inbox, i'd say over 3/4 of them are useless garbage asked by idiots who are too lazy to search.
now about the off topic threads:
i really like the idea, it's a great way for forum members to hang out and have friendly chats for one another, but one thing i had noticed going on in the old BS Thread was that noobs with less than 10 posts would come here and post until they get 10 posts. i actually even read some other posts that encouraged this action. so while the off topic threads are great, they also have downsides to them as well.
IMO, we should just make it that you can only post in the Q & A Section until you have a certain amount of posts, cause honestly, most of the first few posts are just plain stupid questions that can be answered, by a simple search.

I'm going to act like I didn't read that.
As for the off topic thread. I'll allow one of but once it gets hectic like the last one. *You know who I'm talking to* starting problems calling people etc, it's gone an infractions are handed out.
Yall decide in this thread, who will open it.

Im no dev, so, for what ive seen, I should not be able to post on devs forums even if im replying to someone's question. So instead of getting bullied out of the forums, im gonna suggest to mods to ban anyone like me who's just a senior member from the dev forum to avoid all those "move your stupid question to the q&a thread recently created mumbo jumbo whatever ever and change your post with moved to wherever".
Most people here are not devs. I dont mean to disrespect any dev or anyone who share their work, but, I think this kind of changes just made things difficult to devs and end users alike having to look to two threads to find an answer or to answer. Mostly because google brings better search results about xda than the xda search option.
Maybe I get a post regarding this one about moving it to hell.
A lot of really plain sarcasm mixed with plain truth.

lol, you may hear it but definitely not from me
q&a threads are new for me too (been on xda a few years ago, lurking before registering. and a lot has changed since then.
it's just that dev threads are getting a lot of same questions asked again and again, with some people responding in the beginning and later bullying. it's normal. just reading the rom thread and going to q&a thread to post a question is not difficult. meanwhile dev thread should be for posting bugs and solutions and updates. it makes the whole thread a lot more easy to follow

Which devs forums are you talking about? As far as I know, you can post there as long as it is helpful, no matter what it is or what rank you are.
As gilbert said, it's just to keep away the n00bs who can't bother to read.
Edit: @Kameirus Exactly.

which is 89 percent of users
Dont get me wrong, I understand but still think that for this rules to work we need an effective way to search xda. Ive been ignored before when asking something which is already answered, but all this "move your post to somewhere else" and "then editing your post on said thread and moving it to another" is annoying and just add more post without being useful to anyone. If the question was answered then ignore like before.
I know my comments wont make any difference. That doesn't mean I wont be reading and posting any more, lol.
On other topic, why would you want to keep away the noobs? Weren't we all noobs at some point? Or everyone was a recognized developer and android/linux experts when first registered on xda? I still dont know jack about anything. I know how to read and write.

Well, I got another of the post mentioned before because I shared my setup on a specific rom so another user could find the problem on his install. At least I thought I was helping, btw, the post has been there for about 3 weeks before I got the "you are ot cause this is not dev related".
And im talking about this forums, I own an HD2, an O1, and SGS2, all from T-Mobile. The hd2 is the one I love flashing the most.

@FCORivers
not everyone are noobs.
people who search before posting aren't noobs. people who read before posting aren't noobs
people who ask "hoe brinj hd2 android phnoe in start bot" and similar stuff are noobs. people who don't even bother searching are noobs. people know how to read and write, but those who don't bother doing them correctly are noobs.
people who come to new roms' threads and post bugs posted in op and in first few pages are noobs. and unfortunately those end up on xda via google or youtube.
posting a question is not wrong, but expecting the development thread to be a user manual and consumer support is just wrong. this is one of the reasons q&a threads exist.
and why keep the noobs away? lets just remove the 10 post rule, let noobs fill development threads with "how instal zs ram" and "hoe flash kernil" and "phone bricked" and "my mother punished me for phone not turn on any more". what's easier??
I'm very sure that posting a question in a dev thread and moving it to q&a and leaving a note that it's been moved isn't something hard.
I'm not trying to be lame by any way.
Gilbert

exactly. what i said was inspired by this and another post(i forgot where from)
I still think you havent understood me.
I have been ignored when asking stupid qs before, I dont think q&a threads are users guides. If the post is about something already asked, ignore it, if it is stated in op ignore it. Its not about that. Its about polluting a thread asking people to move their posts. Do you think my post is polluting cause is not dev related? What about two post instead which arent dev related? I never access this site via pc or laptop and never ever on my phones web browser which makes moving posts a little bit more complicated than over pc. Why dont get a pm from the same mod to ask you to do that and kindly ask devs to add q&a link in op? Most devs have done that already. So if a noob still fails to follow the rules then a kind pm reminding him/her the rules. But a "deleted post" or "moved post" is still not dev related, there will be a post non the less. Mod posted about new q&a threads, I know.
I dont expect anyone to agree and probably language has something to do with me not being able to make a point here as English is not my native language. Its just that I feel like a little kid getting reprimanded cause most of the time ( im not perfect) I thoroughly searched before posting and still have missed some answers.
As I mentioned before, I had a post like that for sharing my setup. My post was there for about 3 weeks before I got reprimanded. So I see it like the mod wants his new authority to be noticed.
I wont post anymore on dev threads if I dont find my answer on the q&a thread with out detailed info and logcat, got it, but going back 3 weeks on an unattended, almost forgotten rom thread (sorry dev, not meaning anything bad about the rom, I liked it for a while) is what I was complaining for.
Yes im an old crybaby, lol.

Thanks for the read.
But I dont care if that post has 2 million thanks and states what is right, is not really what ive seen in this forums. You dont have to be my friend to be friendly, you dont have to be rude either. Ignoring works miracles, lol.
Havent got a post like that in any other device forum here on xda.
Nah, ignore this one too.
Edit: forget every little thing. Just my bad attitude mixed with a stupid misunderstanding.
