[SOLVED!!] Process com.samsung.syncservice?? And a quick question on Overclocking... - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my mytouch4G from a member on here, immediately loaded the newest CWM touch onto it and then downloaded feb's newest Creamed Glacier test ROM, and every time I start my phone it says 'Process com.samsung.syncservice has stopped unexpectedly.' when it boots up..there was also a failed process for 'verizon sign-in' or something that I didn't get to read because as fate would have it it popped up as I was backing out of an application and it flashed on the screen before I could stop my finger it was gone..
I have a Samsung Epic, and it is possible that some of the files from that got picked up while doing a titanium backup (??) restore because I use the SD card in multiple android devices, so there is no doubt some crossover in the generic folders created on the card..I'm just wondering if anyone else is getting this and if not, where is this 'com.samsung.syncservice' apk located so I can delete it?
If not, I'll just reflash the ROM and see if that helps, but I'd rather just delete that process from my system so if it happens again I know what to do without having to restore a nand.
And quickly, what do you guys prefer to OC to? My Epic maxes out at 1500, and is stable only up to about 1300 on CM9 (currently at 1200mhz to be safe), but it seems to be running smoother with less lag than the mytouch which is clocked MUCH higher (1600-1700mhz), although the governor I use on my Epic is not available on this kernel (lagfree). Any feedback would be appreciated, I don't want to fry my CPU while trying to remedy the lag if it can't be remedied..what settings are you using (speed/gov)? THANKS!

Whaaaa? Samsung? Verizon? That's crazy talk right there. I ran one of the test builds the other day and didn't see either. Sounds like somebody tried to port something from a verizon phone and the files are hanging out on the system partition. Did you wipe it before flashing?
Also, most Mytouch 4G's will run all day at 1500. Battery life will take a hit though. Smartass and, if you have the option, Darkside are great governors.

Yes I did full wipe in CWM, manually factory/cache/dalvik, and then installed the ROM, flashed gapps, updated the kernel to the 'suggested' kernel n feb's thread (darkside I believe?) and rebooted..
I am pretty sure that it showed the process on reboot, though not sure if it did on first reboot or if it made it's first appearance when I did a titanium restore (it froze while the second app was restoring and did a soft reboot, I think that might have been when I first saw it after that reboot)- but the only apps I restored were mostly ones I had dl'd on the glacer- I did use my backup for setcpu and installed a swype-beta backup, but I am fairly certain that those backups came from my Asus Transformer not from the Samsung (the swype beta is what tells me this as samsung comes with swype stock thus would have never had a swype beta installed/backed up). And I didn't install data, as far as I know...or, maybe I did, let me go check...
I know..making me scratch my head too.
EDIT: Going to go back into titanium backup and just wipe the data/cache for the apps that I installed and reboot, if it still comes up it was in one of the flashed files IMO
EDIT2: Wiped, still came up- now to try a factory reset and see if it is still there, and then if it is I guess I'll reflash again and try it one at a time until I figure out what caused it. I'll be back with an answer I guess..lol

After factory reset, items still there, 'failed verizon login' and 'com.samsung.syncservice process' both popping up after reboot. :/ time to take it one flash at a time..this will be fun
Ok, well then...complete wipe, factory and all, installed ONLY the creamed glacier test ROM and both processes still prompted.
I guess I'll try another ROM (??) though I still don't see why that would be doing this..if others haven't experienced it as well..report back soon with results from another ROM (try something that feb did not cook up)

you could always use root explorer to pinpoint the files and manually delete them. I have my phone OC @ 1024/245 superbad, sleep @ 368/245 powersave and never had any lag issues at all. I can even run at 768 superbad with minimal lag

I tried to find the files with root explorer, I found the data/data/com.samsung.syncservice folder and deleted it, but something else in the boot initialization (maybe actually in the init.d file? No couldn't be..) is still trying to run those processes..they aren't in the system/apps or system/bin folder, I don't know where to look and search did not locate them
Any ideas where they might be? Still not flashed another ROM, downloading ..
After factory reset..

try looking in system/framework or system/etc/permissions. if you cant find it in there, try to flash another ROM to see if your problem still persists. if it does, my best advice would be to re-format your SD card

So you're saying there is a possibility of rogue files on the SD card causing the problem? I'll yank the card and reboot as soon as these ROMs get done downloading (yes, they have been en route since my last post- apparently the virtuous unity ROM is on a VEEERRRYY slow server... )
I'm guessing that if I flash a new ROM, yank the card and on reboot still get the issue, well, that can't be possible we'll cross that bridge in a moment
It has to be something to do with that or the gapps that I flashed, which doesn't make sense because it was an official package from february that wasn't device-specific..........
I'm a total noob with this phone, it seems to be behaving differently than any of the phones I've dealt with thus far (HTC HD7 and Thunderbolt, Moto Atrix, Moto Droid2, Samsung Epic, ZTE Blade, Asus Transformer). Oh well, learning curve ahead..
EDIT: I found some (should have searched for ' *samsung* ' ) in data/user/0/com.samsung~ and others in data/data/com.sams~, all the processes were missing from the folders except there were some samsung folders that were not labeled 'syncservce' that contained some xml files, so I deleted every folder with 'samsung' in the name (not sure how those got onto the internal memory, these folders should not have been created when installing apps from titanium backup imo)
Now searching for ' *verizon* ' to see what that yields. I'll update here in a bit..
EDIT 2: Yep, found some verizon SSO files in my DALVIK CACHE and my System folder root (WTF!?)..I've been reading about Stuxnet over the past few days, things like this make me a might nervous!
Thanks guys..
EDIT WTF!? (3): So, after deleting those files, I got the verizon prompt to go away..but still having the com.samsung.syncservice process coming up after reboot, now to try and reflash the ROM..I think I'll try to wipe and flash the same ROM over, and if it persists I'll flash these ROMs;
Darkside CM7.2
Virtuous Unity (latest released and previous version)
Creamed Sense
Those are all I'm going to mess with right now, because there are WAY too many ROMs for this phone!!
@#$%^&*!!! (4): WIPE EVERYTHING, CLEAN INSTALL, DARKSIDE ROM, PROCESS STILL PROMPTING!! Now...NOW..I'm getting upset..

whoops well enjoy the free thanks lol meant to hit the quote button glad you got your issue fixed(hopefully). now flash to your hearts content! also, the MT4G isnt that much different from the Thunderbolt other than bigger screen/no hardware buttons, so not too much of a learning curve

Issue did not get fixed, I just restored a nandroid so we'll see if that fixed it- so far however, nothing seems to be ridding the phone of the errant samsung sync process...verizon is gone though!
Nandroid seemed to have fixed the issue (at least haven't seen the popup yet..) so I'm going to see if I can flash the same ROM again, no titanium backup and no extra apps- to see if that causes it, then I will know it is something in the ROM file..or something I did afterwards (still want to recreate my steps completely and see if I can replicate the problem and figure out what happened to begin with).
I've always used the same SD card when flashing devices, though the files get backed up on the PC and edited from time to time..so if this happened once I want to prevent it from happening again, though it would be a real pain to have to wipe my "ROM flash" card between every device.
As before, will keep it up to date and post the solution (and cause if I can determine it) for progeny.
(BTW, I also live in GA..)

It was the GOD-AMM Creamed Glacier Test ROM!!!
What the hell man...after wiping, restoring a nandroid and ridding myself of it, flashing the ICS beta from febycv triggered both the verizon and the samsung sync processes immediately!
That ROM is out, now to restore my nandroid once again and try another ROM..just to be certain that it was, in fact, the Creamed Glacier test ROM (creamedglaciertest200.zip)
WTH..
CONFIRMED..restored my nandroid and then flashed DARKSIDE CM7, no errant processes appeared, flashed GApps for GB and rebooted, no errant apps again (that actually failed to install the GApps after multiple flashes so even installed the ICS Gapps with no effect or errant processes, so loaded an old market app)..downloaded Root Explorer from market to search for *verizon* and *samsung*, no results. I own a samsung phone, but have no connection to verizon whatsoever, this to me proves that this ROM (creamed Glacier) is the culprit..though I am still baffled as to why I seem to be the only person to experience this..thinking about trying to flash that creamed glacier app ONE MORE TIME now just to prove to myself that I didn't do anything wrong, that the problem is with the ROM package..
DOUBLE, TRIPLE, BEYOND EQUIVOCAL DOUBT CONFIRMATION: Flashed the Creamed Glacier ROM right over the CM7, processes are back. No more fooling with Creamed Glacier for me..

Wow. That's crazy. Have you brought this up in the Creamed Glacier thread? This should be talked about.

Yeah i posted a link to this thread in the dev thread..it was just a test rom, but yeah..makes me kind of sketchy, plus now cyanogen mod forum is telling me it's trying to load a phoenix exploit..i'm all weirded out..they are out to get me..i don't know why, but it's my own personal stuxnet

I already told in the dev thread that the test 200 Rom is a leaked Android 4.0.4 for the Galaxy Nexus from Verizon wireless.....
The test Rom is only for the testers....not to be used by other users......Read the thread before complaining......
The normal builds are updated only when you see new commits on my github page......
If no one is interested in the test builds......I will discontinue it......I don't want the creamed glacier to be a culprit.....

Yeah..where is this information? It sure wasn't in your posts since advertising the 4.0.4 in the dev section..nor the op, nor the site that the download link was on.
I would love to see you point me to the pertinent posts that explains:
1 the test roms are ported from Samsung verizon device and will have leftover processes
2 the test roms are exclusively for testers
Excuse me, I've been running a cm9 ALPHA build for a week i just assumed other roms claiming to be in beta would have been much more put together, and in the even that they weren't the bugs would be explicitly listed. I read:
Bugs: camera, bt audio and "miscellaneous bugs"
A fountain of detailed information...man, i hope when i developing to have more patience. I wasted 5 hours trying to solve a problem i wouldn't have had if the bugs i was troubleshooting were more clearly started. I wasted my time, not yours. Yet you are the one upset. Funny how that works.
Edit; i actually spent more like 7 hours on it from the posts here, Google was used extensively with no results, the first response i got to this thread said they had used a test builds and did not experience this..yet i am the one in the wrong..sure would have taken less time to read that big list than to reverse engineer it and like i said, i thought it was something i did at first. If the bugs had been turned up by a cursory examination of your op or even a Google search then i would have gotten alt more constructive things done last night.

[Q] Is there a newbie's guide for this phone?

I understand there's a tips and tricks thread that explains things in more detail but how does somebody go from just getting the phone to installing, or even understanding, things like obsidian, onyx, morphing and learning what the basic functions of such programs are.
The question I currently have is concerning flashing custom roms. In the tips & tricks thread, it talks of froyo builds (ex: bionix & frankin-twiz). What is it exactly? From what I understand, it sounds like a mini os that you install onto your device which helps in applying different functions to it, which makes custom roms possible.
I'm currently trying to get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845530 to work on my vibrant. Can anybody help a newbie out?

the link you posted is just to a theme.
to get the theme to work you'll need to be running obsidian first.
so lets see, the easiest way to explain the different versions 2.2, 2.1 1.6, 1.5 and so forth is this...
its pretty much like going from windows 95 to 98 to 2000 to xp to vista and so forth.
our vibrants come with android 2.1, 2.2 is the next version of the os to come out (basicaly like moving from vista to windows 7)
the different roms like obsidian and Macnut and such are just names that the developers gave their roms.
what happens is a developer starts out with a version of android (in the case of Macnut and Obsidian this is 2.2)
and then they add their own modified tweaks and such to it.
and so in the end they get Obsidian which is a modified 2.2
or Macnut which is also a modified 2.2
they differ a bit though as Obsidian is based almost totaly on a leaked version of 2.2 for the US vibrant, where Macnut is based alot on the 19000 version of 2.2 for the european phones.
so when choosing a rom just choose the base you want first: 2.1 or 2.2
then look through the tweaks on a few roms and read some of the thread for that rom untill you get a feel for what makes it unique
you can also just experiment by flashing a rom for a day or so and then switching to a new one untill you find one you like.
Morphing is a way to apply a theme to a rom, this does not generaly change functionality at all, it only changes apearance.
alot of themes are either morphs (you install them using metamorph, which is an app from the market)
or they also come in zip format (which are installed by flashing from recovery)
for the theme you posted you will need to flash obsidian, and then flash the zip for the theme afterwards.
have you rooted your device yet?
thats the place to start, if you need help just pm me or repost here and I'll do what I can.

lol true true
Before you even want to start with anything, you have to learn what 'rooting' your phone means.
Without root, you won't be able to do any of the above. You might be able to download the programs necessary, but you won't be able to use them.
For ex. Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, etc.
We use ROM Manager to install different ROMs on our phones.
Much to read, my young grasshopper.
OP, I made the Tips/Tricks sticky... would you PM be exactly what you think it lacks? I want to make sure it is applicable to everyone... I thought it was straight-forward, perhaps not.
my phone is rooted. So how do I go about flashing obsidian?
I thought roms were the same as themes? What's the difference?
And just to clarify I understand the tips and tricks thread is sort of the newbies guide but even then theres a lot of terminology that a new user wouldn't understand. I just wanted some basic information that would allow me to transition into the tips and tricks thread more easily.
I appreciate the responses so far
Have you download Rom Manager from the Market? If not, do so.
Then follow the instructions (in the sticky) to flash the recovery (it's the top of the list when you open Rom Manager).
Assuming you did that, you can reboot into recovery, make a backup of your system.. something you can always come back to (a timestamp of your system at that moment).
Download the ROM you want, put it on your internal memory (sdcard/....) NOT in a folder.
Go to Clockwork recovery, choose to insall a zip from sd card... select the name of the ROM and then click Yes to install it.
It will run it's course, then you can just reboot when done.
The first bootup will take a long time (10 minutes probably)... let it boot.... leave your phone alone for like 10 or so minutes after bootup (suggested by Team Whiskey, I never really do this).
It's that easy.
Think of a ROM as an OS... the developers take Froyo (2.2) or Eclair (2.1) and make a lot of tweaks, remove things, add things... basically anything to enhance the user experience.
THEMES are something you flash over a custom ROM... it can change the icons, graphics, notification bar, etc... they are cosmetic. You see in my signature I have Axura 2.0.3 (amazing rom and there is a newer version out) and then I have BlackFroyo (which is the theme) on top of the ROM to change the look of things. Axura has a steel looking notification bar, I much prefer black (hence the theme I chose).
The ONE thing that can be confusing... if you make a backup right now (you have stock eclair), if you flash a froyo rom... you would need to flash either the stock eclair kernel (the download link is also in the sticky) to restore your nandoid backup.... OR, you could just flash another ROM that has a kernel (most do) and you would be good to go too.
And addition to this is to make sure your phone is NOT hardware locked.
To test it:
1) Take out battery from the phone and put it back in again
2) The USB cable plugged into the computer (not in the phone yet)
3) Push and hold down both of the Volume buttons at the same time
4) Plug in USB cable and it should take you into the Download mode.
If it does you are good to go. Just read some about Odin and Stock Android
If it isn't you need to make sure to flash JI6 to your phone (also Stock) onto your phone using Stock Manager. That should fix your hardware locked. Go over the above steps to make sure that is the case.
At this point, I have rooted my device and downloaded rom manager.I believe I have backed up everything after following the directions and I do have the blackfroyo.zip on my sd card and for some reason it won't "go" (although I'm sure there's a step I am missing here, something with obsidian) so that wasn't much of a surprise.
Edit: I noticed I tried to use a theme on there and not the obsidian "OS" (idiot) when I tried the backup thing with rom manager. Where can I download the most recent version of obsidian and/or is axura an acceptable alternative?

Been working on updating the wiki. Please check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S_SGH-T959#ROMs for the different ROMs currently available.
^^ both are solid. I prefer Auxura *no touchwiz*.... download it from the development section. Place in on the internal (sdcard/ ) and flash it, reboot... I would let the phone chill for awhile then reboot again.... THEN if you want, start messing with the theme. You can see from my signature you and I are similar.
to the OP, I started a noob friendly guide in the Q&A section. Please let me know exactly what you want in there.
Here is a video guide, its kinda old but the principles are the same.

I have been browsing around and reading on XDA since I got my G1 on release day. I have since upgraded to the MYT3G and now to the Vibrant. I have always used XDA as a source of information for rooting, etc. I don't post very often, but, I would like to throw props out to all the individuals in the thread, this is one of the few threads I have read on XDA that no one got flamed for being a "noob" and asking basic info, the information given was clear, accurate and very helpful. No one pointed to using the search function, everyone just gave good answers. AWESOME
I hope to see more threads like this in the future. Bravo and well done to all.
So I tried installing obsidian 5 and this is what happened. I first put the zip file on my sd card, I did all the necessary prerequisites (I think) using rom manager, flash recovery > vibrant yada yada yada and then pressed install rom from sd card and chose the obsidian zip file. Then the phone starts backing itself up and it finally reaches a point where it says (E: Can't open/sdcard/sd/obsidian_v5_beta.zip (no such file or directory) Installation aborted.
I then try to navigate to the file from the menu but whenever I click the sd file, it just exits, I think it says that no zip file is found or something but when I boot it up normally afterwards, the file is still there.
But the file is within the sd file . . . what am I doing wrong? I tried to fix permissions thinking it was that but no luck.
You probably need to move to the rom to the internal sd card. I thought you're able to add it to the external with the recent update but perhaps not

the rom IS on the sd card, unless you mean the memory on the actual phone itself
ROMs go on the root of the internal memory (no folder)... drop it in sdcard/
Also, this was mentioned in Post 8, and in team whiskeys install guide. Please pay attention to details.
oh okay, this whole time I've been thinkin the sd card folder was the root folder. Well I have finally put obsidian with success and now I'm having a difficult time implementing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845530. I have downloaded the zip file but I don't understand what "flash it through clockwork recovery" means. It kinda sounds like I should use something in rom manager but I'm not sure, I have tried to reboot into recovery through rom manager with no luck.
I've also tried using metamorph but when i choose the blackfroyo.zip file, it says that the file is invalid and that the theme control file could be missing. Am I doing something wrong here as well?
Thanks for all your help so far, I really appreciate you taking time out of your busy life to help an individual with (what may be to you) simple problems

From where you are now. Make sure the zip file is in the internal sd card, Open rom manager go to install rom from sd card then choose the that file then click ok and CW will do its thing. Also this is only for Obsidian v4.2 and Auxura 2.05. Good luck! Also you should make a nandroid back up first just in case.

Installation Instructions:
BACKUP First!
Flash back to stock via Odin.
Master clear (THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE!).
Root with one-cick root. (note you can skip this step if you copy update.zip to the root of your sdcard)
Copy rom to SD Card.
Install Rom Manager
Flash Clockwork mod recovery from within Rom Manager.
Reboot into recovery.
Choose Reinstall packages (might have to do twice).
Choose Install zip from sdcard.
Choose zip from sdcard.
note: You can skip the rom manager and rooting steps if you already have the CWM update.zip. Just copy it back to the root of your sdcard after master clear. Then copy the rom over and reboot into recovery.
It will now take a long time to reboot. It should ask you if you want to backup and restore. Please select this option. It will automatically apply the lagfix. After everything is finished and installed I recommend some additional steps.
Open up Spare Parts and set window and transition animations to Fast instead of normal.
Reboot phone again to make sure android id applies successfully.
Enjoy!

Awesome. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions!
Ill give it a shot. See how something different performs for a change. With your install procedures, you should mention that if people already have the update.zip on the root of their phone they wont have to re-root the phone. Just make sure you have a backup in case master clear removes it. Makes it a much easier process.
I am going to give it another try. I don't flash Rom's as much as most so I forgot a key step. Will report my findings here once flashed.
This looks absolutely beautiful. Well done!
Could you try making a version with the 1280 kernel??
Does BT voicedial work?
What if i flash ji6 modem, would it work? Need to have working wired headset for calls. Thanks

So far I am still waiting on the Android bootscreen. After installing the zip, I selected backup and restore, it did its thing and went back to the same screen. I did it a second time to not mess anything up. Now it has been sitting for about 7 min. I will give it some more time and see if it ever boots past this screen.
So I am unable to flash this. The first time is as I stated above. So I wiped back to JF6. Did Master clear which I have never had to do with a Rom before. Went back through the steps and now it is stuck at the bootscreen again. What is weird is it went to the bootscreen and then it went to the battery screen. Now I am stuck on the bootanimation again. I can not recommend this Rom in its current state. It should not be this way to flash, and I can not even get it to go past the boot screen.

Very odd. Is it possible the mirror from multiupload didn't have the complete file yet? I've flashed it several times and never had this problem.

mixing a captivate modem with an i9000 kernel tends to result in lack of voice in phone calls...

I noticed you said it went to the battery screen. Did you flash with the usb cable inserted?
I just flashed back to stock, master cleared and reflashed. Did the backup and restore and everything booted up perfectly. Only took a few minutes.

Yeah...I think that could be the problem. I will try again in a bit because I just tried another rom and had the same issue. We will see. Sorry, I wasn't trying to make it seem like the Rom was bad. I should have worded my post differently.

Should work but I don't have a BT device to confirm. Can you try and let us know?
Ok. How long did it take to start after getting to the boot screen? I have been stuck for 5 minutes on my newest flash without the USB plugged in. I flashed Assonance and it booted up within 2 minutes after it reached the boot screen.
Going to let my phone die this evening (calibrating battery); but I will try this out tomorrow morning and post results.
Do you have the Voice Dialer app in the drawer?
Great ROM so far. Haptic feedback is best so far and GPS seems to be great. Is there any way to get original messaging back. I don't see an option to scroll through contacts.
This might be a really been question but. I always see quadrant and unpack scores. A) what apps so I. Download to test these. And b) what. Does each score represent. Please excuse my nieveness but I'm curious

LinPack tests raw CPU speed in MFLOPS. A 15-16 is a standard Captivate Score. An 18 is pretty effing high, but probably also because it's overclocked to 1.3 ghZ
Quadrant tests GPU speeds as well as CPU i believe. The 1st part of the test is CPU based, so Captivate tends to be slower in the 1st part of the Quadrant test compared to Nexus One 2.2+ sometimes or some of the newer Droids, but on the GPU part where the program takes the phone through many graphical tests, Captivate & Galaxy S phones in general trump all because the graphics chip is phenomenal in the phone.
Hope this helps!

Nook CM7-on-SD

I'm trying to load up the gapps ZIP, to get Market and my Google apps going.
1. The whole "press and hold for X seconds" on the power/n buttons ain't working too well for me. The thing keeps just loading normally or rebooting cuz I hold power too long or something).
2. When inside CM7, and I choose Reboot/REcovery, it actually skips the SD entirely and loads me into the original B&N on the machine itself. Derp.
I followed these instructions for installing CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
using the update-cm-7.0.0-encore-signed.zip as recommended by quinxy here:
http://quinxy.com/2011/04/01/comple...on-the-nook-color/comment-page-3/#comment-944
So, any tips or ideas on how to get into recovery (it's a CM7 install on SD) so I can put in Market and GAPPS?
I also noticed that when it boots, I'm in some black screen always and have to click power twice to actually get the CM7 desktop to show. Whassup with that?
edit: also, is there harm with installing CWM from ROM manager in this CM7 SD card install? Will it install it to the SD card, or to the Nook Color itself? Will it dork things up? I want to keep them separate (B&N on the machine, CM7/GB on the SD). Is this the reason I can't get into any kind of recovery mode, because I don't have CWM installed?
Which build of CM7 are you running? The more recent nightlies made the reboot into recovery process easier.

I'm really not sure -- I grabbed the one I was told to do in the post at:
http://quinxy.com/2011/04/01/comple...on-the-nook-color/comment-page-3/#comment-944
with a direct link to update-cm-7.0.0-encore-signed.zip, whatever that is. The file is here:
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/get/update-cm-7.0.0-encore-signed.zip
Since creating an install to SD is so brain-dead simple, I'm happy to switch over to something else if needed.
What about CWM? If I go to ROM manager, it tells me CWM isn't installed. If I install it - is it putting it to the SD or the machine itself? I'd really love to keep it internally clean, all on the SD.
You should be running at least the latest stable build, 7.0.3. If you're more daring, like me, you can install the latest nightly, which may in the 100's now (I haven't checked in a couple days).
I honestly haven't done anything in ROM manager yet so I can't offer any advice there. I've had problems with it and don't care eenough to troubleshoot. I use Win32imager to make img backups of my install.

I just went here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=encore
and grabbed the top one, cm_encore_full-106.zip, and it is installing to the card now, we'll give it a shot and see how well it works. I'm *assuming* these are all CM7.
edit: I got a different boot splash screen than the previous one, so that's a bonus. Nicer boot animation. Crossing fingers that it doesn't start up in sleep mode like the other build package did (always had to toggle power button to get the desktop to show after a boot). Yar, desktop!
OK, now to see if this thing will reboot into recovery....
Yup, that should do it. Didn't realize we were up to 106 already!! CM7 is short for Cyanogen mod 7, so yes, they're all CM7 See how 106 works for you.

You're a genius - it was a crappy build of CM7 I must've flashed first. The latest did the trick. Nice boot anim, came right to desktop, rebooting into recovery picked up the gapps zip and installed it.
Thanks for the advice. I'll make a restore point with Win32Image thingy now. Thanks again for your help.
You're welcome. Make sure to "thank" me. I just started posting here and wouldnt mind a little color on my thank o meter

Ha! I have no idea, like I said, I just started posting here so I have no idea how to do it either. Maybe someone smarter than I will post with the answer.
Well, GAPPS is installed -sort of- but now stuck at "SETUP WIZARD" at the top whenever I boot the nook. Softkeys are not responding, the only thing that does is the notifications pulldown. No desktop, just a big fat "SETUP WIZARD" at the top, and black screen.
Grrr.
edit: Rebooted it, and now have a nice normal set up screen. Yay.
Maybe an obvious question, but did you make sure to setup your WiFi connection before installing the gapps? One time I was in a hurry and installed gapps before setting up my WiFi and I had to start over
I did that twice already, but even with setting up wifi, i got that setup wizard glitch (which went away when I simply rebooted). It looked a lot like a set up screen for gapps that didn't render quite right. It's probably an artifact from being on the most bleeding edge nightly....
it's all up and running though, and looking very nice. love the fact it's all on the SD - so very, very nice.
I'm glad you got it working. I think I got that weird gapps glitch one time but yeah, it goes away after a reboot.
I too LOVE that it's all off the SD card. My daughter (3) likes a couple apps that I have on the Barnes and Noble interface, so about once a week I boot into that (its horrid by the way once you've been running CM7 for a while). I'm going to be helping a friend get CM7 on his viewsonic g tablet this weekend and thats a full flash to main memory install. Makes me a bit more neervous but it looks pretty straight forward.
By the way, I highly recommend Launcher Pro, with the unlocker (a couple bucks). it makes everything soooooo smooth.
I use LP on my EVO (running rooted w/a cleaned up Sense ROM w/o any sprint bloat). I love it. I find GO launcher, ADW and LP all have very similar features.
I have a few paid apps (Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, Beautiful Widgets) - that I bought with the Evo and are working here, was able to DL and install them from Market - so that's handy.
Although "Move to SD Card" seems sorta "huh, wha?" now.
I haven't overclocked my nook yet - think it's something I should do? I read about some kernel tweak to kick it up to 1.1GHz. The final thing I need to do is get Netflix working on here, then I'll be content.
I'm running LP on my HTC Desire and its awesome. not necessarily better than sense, but its fresh, like a new phone almost.
I have NO idea what "move to SD card" does if you're running on an SD card. I'd love an explanation from someone on that.
I can help you get Netflix going if you need help. That's my number one favorite app on my Nook Color. That alone made installing CM7 worth it. Nothing better than sitting in bed at night watching movies on it.
Oh yeah, under Cyanegon Mod settings, find tablet tweaks (careful, dragons ahead), and you can easily overclock the CPU to 925 MHz right there. I don't know a way of setting it higher while running off an SD card. If you figure it out, point me in the right direction please?

I wouldn't mind some help getting Netflix going, if you would please. I noticed it's not even appearing in the Market (I think Market changed a bit to filter out unsupported apps now).
As far as moving to SD card - I did notice a few glitches. Things like moving Facebook caused Facebook's contact/feed syncing to break and vanish. I suppose anything that needs background processes are going to be flakey. There were other ones, like Word for Friends that also glitched on me. I just moved them back to "phone" and they worked again.
Not really pressed for space - but yeah, minor bugs there.
So....netflix?
Found an APK I was able to side-load, but Netflix is all chipmunk-y!
Someone has a download link to the apk file on these forums. Look around for that. Tell your Nook to install third party apps. Install the program after downloading that.
Install Root Explorer and allow it super user access. Open up the system folder and mount r/w. Open up build.prop in the text editor. Change the following lines to match this.
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
The first one normally says NookColor and the seconds says bn.
save the file and restart the device. Netflix should work like a charm, and best of all, the Android Marketplace does not break. Although the market will think you have an HTC Vision
Modifying the build.prop file fixes the chimpmonk problem by the way.

For some reason, Root Explorer (and SU) don't think it's rooted. I see SU installed and when I launch it, it tries to update itself, and says something like "failed to update, probably from not being rooted - zip put on sd card, flash it in recovery."
Root Explorer doesn't give me my usual option to flip to R/W mode and edit files. I tried installing Busybox, too - and that thing complained about not being rooted as well.
So, dunno why - but this doesn't seem to think it's rooted. Odd, considering it all exists on the SD card.
Any clues?

[ROM]We're Back! [01/17/12] 3.2.1 Honeylicious Flash Glass HC Stock Based Kernel

Honeylicious 3.2.1 Flash Glass
Now that the Holidays are over, and worked has slowed down somewhat, I have more time to spend with the thread.
Honeylicious was created for myself, by myself so I wouldn't have to rely on someone else's work.
I got sick of the "stick figure UI" that Google continues to produce, so what you'll see here is something more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so if it doesn't please you, you can download
The UI has had a "glass" filter applied through Photoshop to give it a "glassy" finish.
You won't see any custom kernels here, nor revision updates, as these are all tried, tested, and true final releases.
What you will find is one of the fastest, smoothest, most dependable, and stable stock kernel based ROMs out anywhere for the Acer Iconia A500.!
Please read the "Install Instructions" carefully, and/or watch the Video Tutorial on how to flash correctly.
The 3.2.1 Youtube Fix is included in this Rom thanks to Civato.
Special thanks to Civato @ XDA for all his help in getting the camera working properly with this ROM, for the original apks he had given me, which have been changed immensely since that time, although there are a few png files that still remain the same, and all the other help and inspiration he has provided.
When you purchase a new automobile, it doesn't come with free driving lessons, neither does Android, and this ROM doesn't either. There are a few things you'll need to know before flashing a ROM.
If you're unsure of what you need to do, or simply can't follow the explicit directions in the "Install Instructions" (video included), take this link first to get you started. Click Here for the wealth of information in the A500 Wiki.
If you've previously flashed another one of Thor's ROMs with his custom kernel that he refuses to release the source code for, you may have problems flashing other ROMs until you COMPLETELY WIPE AND FORMAT YOUR SDCard. My personal opinion on this matter is, "if you have nothing to hide, then why are you hiding it?"
DO NOT USE ANY MODS FROM ANY OTHER VERSION OF HONEYLICIOUS AS YOU WILL BE MODIFYING YOUR SYSTEMUI.APK, AND FRAMEWORK-RES.APK WITH AN INCORRECT VERSION AND YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS!
Now, onto the ROM:
It's built on Stock PB G100W 4.010.05_COM_GEN1 found HERE: Stock base (stock kernel), Honeylicious sweet, rooted, tweaked for speed and stability, superuser and Busybox installed, and Bootloader.blob removed, that you've come to know for it's rock solid dependability, stability, and the most speed you can eek out of a stock based ROM, with an Icey Glass Finish!
What Works:
EVERYTHING!
What Doesn't Work:
NOTHING!
This ROM has had all of the useless stock apps that are constantly in "Running Services" ripped out, to give extra battery life, as well as speed. You'll notice in the "Running Apps Settings" screen shot that only two other apps are running (besides "Settings", and "Screen Shot It" which were needed to take the screen shot).
Apps Ripped Out:
Game Loft
Link to Facebook
Music
Nemo Player
Social Jogger
Sound Hound
Zineo
Replace Ripped out Glass App Pack HERE:All apps in one zip file (unzip main file to find individual apps in their own CWM Flashable zip files). So you can add in whatever you like to slow your system down once again.
What Extra Apps are included:
System Apps Added
Polaris Office
Extra Data Apps Added: (you may uninstall through "Settings", "Applications", "Manage Applications").
Avast Android Mobile Security (you need to open it once in applications to setup your preferences for it to run)
SDRescan
AdFree
HD File Explorer
HD BackGammon
HD Solitaire
HD Spades
Bluetooth File Transfer
Dolphin HD Browser
Fancy Widgets (free version)
Shake Calculator
Adobe Flash 11.1
Google Voice
Fancy Widgets has a battery meter included in the Weather/Clock widget. Go into Fancy Widget settings, "clock settings", "extra information", and tick "show battery level" for 1% increment battery levels. Fancy Widgets is the Weather/Clock widget shown in the screen shots, both weather and clock are "MIUI Inspired" style selected in "appearance" settings.
What's Different:
Ice Blue Glass Themed Rom
Five Extra Ice Blue Themed Wallpapers located in the stock Google Wallpapers.
Five Extra Themed Wallpapers located in the stock Google Wallpapers.
ICS Fonts
ICS Clocks
GPS Tweaks have been added to ensure rapid GPS Lock!
Latest Version of Superuser, and binaries.
All the goodness that 3.2.1 brings with it including the Newest Market. As you can see from the running applications Screen Shot there are only two running apps (aside from "settings", and "ScreenShotIt" which needed to be running to take the screen shot.
If you choose not to follow the explicit Install Instructions, not only do you do so at your own risk, I don't want to hear any whining about ANYTHING not working correctly, and post your questions HERE!
This ROM has been tested EXTENSIVELY with absolutely no problems or glitches whatsoever (hence "final release").
Normal disclaimer about how flashing a rom can be dangerous for your Tablet, blah, blah, blah. Please always perform a backup before flashing this ROM. If you some how screw the pooch, consider it "Pilot Error", and I am not responsible.
If you want to flash another kernel with this ROM, you do so at your own risk. I have no idea who's kernel will work with this ROM. If you do choose to flash a custom kernel with this ROM, please direct all questions regarding problems you are experiencing in the thread that you got your kernel from, as they will not be answered here.
If you are having problems with certain apps, remember this is a Stock Based Rom, so please direct your questions regarding said app to the developer of the app.
I took much of my own time and effort building this ROM, typing up instructions, and creating the install video. If you ask a question in this thread that has OBVIOUSLY already been answered in this OP, the only reply you will receive from me is this:

@kjy2010 - First class job of presentation. I refuse to believe that anybody can screw up flashing your ROM after your ultra clear directions. I'm currently running Kekinash's 3.2 near stock rom but I like the look of your effort and I will flash it to my A500 as soon as I've got a spare minute. Once more thank you.

Edit: I've seen some of your boot animations. If you'd care to create a custom animation for this ROM, I'd be more than happy to give you credit for it.

You're very kind I'll give it some thought. I did just complete a small ICS anim, more for fun than anything else but you might like to look at it. I won't bother you by attaching it here but my good friend JaeKar99 has just added a preview gif of my anim to my post which is on the last page of the thread "Publish your A500 Boot Anims......." in the Themes & Apps section.
OP - Thought I'd throw this one at you, it's only a re-hash of what I did before but more specific to your rom. I have to admit that I don't have a single ounce of artistic ability in my body so what you get from me is always pretty simple and uncomplicated. I fear that it might not be "high tech" enough for your needs but worse case it costs neither of us anything and may give you some ideas.
Latest thought.....Should it be of interest to you then the "speed" and "display period" could easily be adjusted to your requirements.
ah, nice work kjy.
No problem on taking it apart and giving it your own twist.
That is why it is there for.
Don't forget it is BigDX is the one that did start this Modding,I changed an modded the ICS stuff into it so it worked on the A500.
I also got settings icones but didn't use them because I think it makes the settings menu out of balance.
If you want some stuff let me know.
3g USB
Hi all, I'm newbie with Iconia A500, I have 16gb wi-fi model, and I want to know if this rom supports 3g USB modem?
I want to know too if can I backup the original ROM before personalize my tablet for don't lose warranty and to recover them if necessary?
Thanks
Remove apps before flash
hi, kjy2010,
As you know, I'm very proud of your previous ROM, which I've flashed before. As I have Quickoffice installed, could be a problem if I remove the Polaris Office apk within the zip file (without winzipping it), before flashing this ROM?
Thanks!

First, you have to have root access, and CWM installed to flash a ROM. There are plenty of threads in this forum on the subject, please use the search function. They will guide you through root, CWM, and backup.
Second, some people have reported success using Civato's 3gmodem patch located in his thread.
Please take these other questions to the appropriate threads, not here

It's now posted in second post under Mods!
Fresh install after following the instructions above. The only apps i have installed from the Market are Busybox and Busybox Pro.
When I try to install Busybox it tells me 'There seems to be a problem with some of the utilities needed to install busybox'. Any suggestions anyone?

Yeah I now see that STEricson's version is still broken. Ran with JRummy16 and is working correctly now.

Thanks for your kind words and for your posted credit. I'm glad you could use the animation. By the way I'm not publishing this anim on my Theme thread I would rather it stayed exclusively here. Receiving a credit on your rom thread is almost like having my name up in lights in Holywood...lol

exact instructions.
Installation Instruction.
You will need to be on BL 1.2 and have a 250m system partition (recomended).
(You can run this on a 350m system setup)
You must know how to back up your existing system. That is only being said once
Boot into Recovery and do a Nandroid Backup Wipe data/factory reset,
go into "mounts and storage" and "mount & format system"
Partition Internal SD to 4096/0 in Advance settings (if already skip this part)
Download Rom and Place onto internal storage
Install Rom
Reboot into system, Complete initial setup
AND HOLD ON TIGHT
DIRTY FLASHING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. YOUR MOM SHOULD OF TAUGHT YOU HOW TO WIPE
This ROM is bare bone striped down the apps and replaced with lighter counter parts.
The only addition I included is minimum Gapps some choice addons and Rom ToolBox to OC, change I/O schedulars
and other adjustments you would like to make. (Recomended Memory Manager Preset setting= Strict)
Check apply on boot then apply settings. Perfomance settings still need to be worked out within the ROM for I/O settings.
Also for Task Killing without a app go to system settings/Developer options (Turn on first)
then select "Background process limit" to (No background processes or Limit to 1)
Whats included

Its not just the boot loader that is needed it is the expanded system partition that is also. Your best bet is to NVFlash the package in the OP. Not only will it set your device into the 1.2bl but it will expand your system partition so it can load the updated firmware.
So who's tried this out and how did it work?

No issues here. It worked perfectly the first time. I had already nvflashed the linked file, so I re-formatted the internal sdcard per the instructions then flashed the ROM.
nobe1976, you are a magician. THANK YOU.
My tablet performs very well now, with an occasional hiccup. It sometimes becomes unresponsive temporarily when I'm doing a lot. For example, from the Play Store, I had about 5 apps queued up to download/install. While that was going, it would go unresponsive for sometimes 10-15 seconds.

To resize just open ES Explorer and give it Root permmisions and change in the build.prop the ro.sf.lcd_density=160 to 120 then reboot. No need to add Root Explore when ES will do everything and more without adds.
Updated OP with a 120 density version.

All I can say is WOW! Fantastic ROM. The only hiccup I had was that I got an "unable to reach server" error in Google Play. I did the old market fix from the froyo days and that did the trick. Thanks much.

I keep getting stuck on the 3 birds loop. the 3 birds appear, then the screen goes blank for a couple of seconds and then the birds reappear. this happens a couple of times then it gets stuck on the birds.
i had the same issue on all ICS roms as well. Flashback HC rom works flawless every time so i have to revert back to it.
Please suggest a solution. i'd love to try out JB on my tab.

Possible Bug Report: On my tab, the sound will not switch to my BT headphones. They paired correctly, and I have performed multiple iterations of rebooting, switching BT on/off, etc...no success thus far.

If this is based on the Team DRH Dirty Bean - it doesn't work there either. Last time I saw this issue was when the "phone" apps were not installed as part of the selected apps on ICS - it pairs but no BT audio.
