Trying to install CM7 on another Mytouch 4G.
The host PC is a Ubuntu 10.04 desktop with the Android SDK installed.
Started following these directions:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Glacier:_Full_Update_Guide
Got all the way to the "Downgrading to 1.17.531.2", section step 6 without any problems.
Then at "/data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start FAA90000 -end FFFFFFFF" step, several screens scroll by with the message:
...
An error occurred while running the exploit (-1) (errno: 25)
An error occurred while running the exploit (-1) (errno: 25)
...
Click to collapse
But it does not show the exploit as being "successful" anywhere.
What should I do?
Did you check the output of "cat /proc/something/msm_rotator" to be "invalid length"?
Is the MT4G updated with the latest update from T-Mobile?

I am trying to find msm_rotator.
Where is it?
Which directory?

No, it is not.
Check this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
This is a proper downgrading guide.
Step 3 is what you're looking for to check if you can use that exploit.
Step 7 is what you might need to try.
And check your OS version in "Settings/About Phone/SW" menu or something like that. It should be Android 2.3.4. If you have anything higher - you might not be able to root using this method. If it's 2.2.1 - you don't need to use this, because you don't need to downgrade your phone. Just download and run Visionary+ to have temp root.
Use this thread as a reference, too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Hello.
I'm following this guide to root my MT4G. I am getting screens' worth of this message in all cases:
An error occurred while running the exploit (-1) (errno: 22)
[ note that it's errno 22 ]
By "all cases", I mean all of the different ways that I can run fre3vo that are named in step 5 and step 7 of this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
My Android version is indeed 2.3.4.
I indeed get "invalid length" when I cat /dev/msm_rotator
I followed all the steps carefully.
I just got this MT4G a couple days ago from AmazonWireless. Do I have to perhaps change or upgrade my OS?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I realize that I did indeed need an HTC software upgrade. I performed the upgrade and tried again just now, and I had the same problem: all versions of the fre3vo command that I mentioned above still give me pages worth of that error message ... except that now it's error 25 instead of 22.
.
I remember getting an error when trying to downgrade because I copied the text, but it was getting cut off on each line in my browser. I had to move my mouse over further to pick up the hidden text.
If you had to upgrade to downgrade, something sounds off. What bootloader version are you running?
More info ...
Just for the hell of it, I also tried this:
/data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start 10000000 -end FFFFFFFF
It ran a lot longer than the other attempts, of course, but it still just kept spewing out that error message.
It looks like I need a different way to temporarily root my phone. Any ideas?
Here are more details about my phone:

- Official model designation: myTouch_4G_Slide

Thank you very much.
I know I'm running the right fre3vo command ... nothing getting cut off.
How do I find out what bootloader I'm using? It's the standard one which came with my MT4G.
PS: Oh! I figured out that I can run "adb reboot-bootloader". Here's its version:
DOUBLEBOOT PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.45.0013
MICROP-0353
eMMC-boot

---------- Post added at 10:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:56 PM ----------
I re-unzipped fre3vo.zip and repushed it to my phone.
I re-ran the fre3vo command, and I stopped getting pages and pages worth of "An error occurred while running the exploit (-1) (errno: 25)"!!!
So I must have somehow corrupted the earlier version of fre3vo.
However ... it never says this:
Potential exploit area found at address xxxxxxxx:yyy.
Exploiting device...
It just goes through the "Scanning region xxxxxxxx" scenario without finding any code to patch.
So I'm still not getting anywhere.
---------- Post added at 10:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 PM ----------
I just did a factory reset on my phone and tried it all again. Same problem.
(no error messages, but no exploit installed)
Hmm, well this exploit is for the mytouch 4G. Perhaps you should head over the doubleshot (MT4G Slide) section and check that out.

Thanks all, got all the help we needed.
With the help of Jcase of TeamAndIRC, I spent a good bit of the night bothering / learning from him and he was able to beat 6.2.1. He will be releasing it tomorrow morning over at Rootzwiki.
Once posted, I will have a new KFU ready to flash TWRP, and allow users to flash the rooted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402440
Please take the time to thank him when it is posted, and make a few donations after you check it out and get your fire back to root Let's get him his own fire to break haha.
Code:

Yep.
Awesome. I was going to install CM7 but fell asleep and when I had turned on my KF the following morning I had received the update.
Much thanks for this.
Whew was beginning to sweat it, actually was about to order a factory cable.
Guess I will need to be a lot more careful after I get root back
Thanks for your job, i will be pleased to donate.

Great news given that even pre-rooted 6.2.1 are being updated to stock 6.2.1
Nice! Will be waiting for this!
Is it very complicated to do? The new root?

No, it is not. You launch an app on the kindle fire, and you can launch this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1407249
Jcase's root you will need to setup root yourself. I will add that tomorrow morning to my TWRP installer, but at the moment I am exhausted and need sleep.
So it may be a bit harder, only in that it doesn't install permanent root, just temporary to get ADB into root to flash TWRP.

I'll answer here because I can't reply in development forum:
The link in the TWRP Installer post downloads a file without extension ("TWRP_Installer_v1"), it has to be renamed to .zip ("TWRP_Installer_v1.zip")
Great job anyway

Since no current technique seems to be safe from Amazon's OTA update, my guess is you would have to install CM7 at this point if you want to be truly safe. On the other hand, you could assume that the next update won't be for a while, and move ahead with the 6.2.1 and maybe order a factory cable to be ready for the next update.
Great work! I guess this comes as a quite nice christmas present for some people tomorrow!

Since you're on the ATT network, you will not receive OTA updates for BELL. You can however download the update for Moto's CAN site and follow the installation instructions to get it up and running.

Actually i do have the file on my sd card and followed instruction but the dawn systems update does not light up so its inactive
Have you tried updating it through recovery yet?
For the most part, I think everything needs to lineup for the phone itself to initiate the update (eg. Blur account, SIM, IMEI, etc.) but you should be able to boot into the stock recovery and run the update from there if you have the file.
Right? Anyone?

I just read the announcement here:
After a mysterious “soak test” was opened up to a select few Motorola Xoom WiFi owners, we were left scratching our heads on what Motorola could have planned. Well, an email to Droid-Life this evening has detailed exactly what to expect from this test, as build number IMM76 begins its official rollout any day now. The Android 4.0.4 update is said to include quicker screen rotation (seriously, that’s a huge Android pet peeve of mine), new screen lock setting, camera improvements and the usual bug fixes.
Here’s the email currently being sent out:
-----
Android 4.04 (IMM76) Software Update for the Motorola XOOM™ WIFI users in the US
Introduction
We are pleased to announce a new software update for the Motorola XOOM™ WIFI in the US. This Android 4.04 (IMM76) software update by Motorola includes numerous enhancements. Upgrade today for peak performance.
Who Can Use This Release
ALL Motorola XOOM -- US WIFI users
After downloading and installing the software release, you will notice:
Enhancements:
Quicker screen rotation
A new setting to choose whether the power button immediately locks the device or not
Microsoft Exchange improvements with additional EAS policies
Better phone number recognition
Camera and image quality improvements
Improved stability
-----
I know it’s a little early to expect a broader rollout, but perhaps it’s already trickled down to a few Xoom users? Anyone out there getting prompted for anything yet?

My error explains a bit more. Sounds like an issue with the asserts.
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "wingray" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "wingray"
And I definitely have a Wifi Xoom that's stock ICS, so I don't get why the asserts fail.
I got that message using a custom recovery for what it's worth.
Anyone have any progress? I'm going to try to do this during my lunch time.

Easiest way to install is:
Restore TWRP Backup. Seems to work even on unlocked sprint.
Get the backup from HERE
Instructions on how to restore:
1. Download the rar, extract it to your PC.
2. Boot to recovery mode, take a backup of just the boot.
3. Mount USB Storage in TWRP, and connect to PC.
4. Navigate to TWRP - Backups - HT5xxx - 2016xxx
5. Delete the stuff
6. Copy the extracted stuff (ensure that the file format of your sd card is exfat)
7. Restore using TWRP
Its recommended to factory reset.
ROOT:
Easiest way to root is by using Magisk.
Instructions:
1. Install Magisk v9 by flashing the zip in TWRP. Reboot.
2. Install Magisk Manager.
3. Open Magisk Manager - Downloads - phh's SuperUser
4. Reboot to Recovery, flash phh's SuperUser zip
5. Reboot, and install phh's SuperUser from PlayStore.
You may use Magisk Manager to disable root for Pokemon, or Google Pay.
It's downloading on my M9 as I type this! The update version is 4.14.617.6, and the size of the OTA is 1.21 GB.

Gah! I'm in the northeast US still haven't got it yet. I wonder if I should clear cache or something I keep checking every 5 min!
edit: And I get the update 3 seconds after I post this lol

I hope this brings battery improvements. Getting an average of 2hrs 45min SOT no matter what I do. Worse than lollipop.
Is this the last official update? Or maybe we get 7.1.1?
i see from internet

Not mentioned. But hopefully.
Let's see what the users who have updated has to say.
Nothing on the ROM downloads page yet, should be at this link once it's up if the URL scheme is the same: http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_HIMA_UL_M60_SENSE70_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_4.14.617.6.exe

If anyone can use ADB to capture the OTA URL, we would really appreciate it! It should look something like this old link: http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_HIMA_UL_L....32.617.30_release_439080bgi83v6gaebkl3on.zip

I don't have the correct SKU and don't have the time for flashing the needed firmware. However, if you need an alternative to ADB: Method 1 from this post can be used with the M9, too.

I just completed updating. It is 99% sense 8. The only difference I'm seeing is that the quick setting shade retains the same shade of grey.
Good news: navbar icons are aosp-like now, double tap to quick switch between apps work, multiwindow works and you can change the dpi in settings like in aosp nougat. Also, the default theme closely resembles the htc10's (same wallpaper?).
So I've got a ViperOneM9 5.3.0 rom and I can't get the OTA...can I flash it manually?
How?

So in that case ,you don't have to go back to stock?

Should I turn S-Off first?
