1) have an account in good standings for more that 90days, call t-mobile tell them you are going out of county and need the unlock code. They by law have to give it to you.
2) Search. The ./gfree root method will give you an option to SIM unlock your device all by your self.
Yeah.. Please help us.

Thanks

Look at it this way: I've never unlocked a phone in my life, not even my brothers iTouch. Not because I didn't know how, just because I never needed to. It is stupidly easy, unless you have issues following simple instructions.
two options:
1. call tmobile for the unlock code
2. perform ultimate s=off root (do a search should come right up)
not too hard to do if you follow the instructions
Awesome, I intended to root it anyways.
Thanks!

Yes using the ./Gfree method will unlock the sim but before you root that way make sure you have the "good" emmc chip as a lot of phones have randomly been becoming bricks using ./Gfree
You can read about it and how to check your phone if you have the "good" or "bad" chip. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079025

make sure you're inserting the sim properly
As far as I know the my touch 4G (unlocked) will work on att's network but will not be able to use the 3G service because T mobile uses a different frequency for its 3g nand
Yea in the video for installing gfree the guy said you would not get 4g or 3g. If you went with AT&T.
This may be dumb question, but why unlock the MyTouch4G when you can just get the Inspire for AT&T? It's similar spec-wise with a larger screen and will get HSPA+.

Dumb question... Does installing HSPL, MAGLDR and Android unlock the HD2 to other carriers? If not, how's that done? Do I just need an unlock code from T-Mobile?
Yep. Believe you need the code.

just call tmo and tell them you need an unlock code and they will give it to you

From what I've read, sounds right.

You are screwed like me. Trust me, TMobile wont give you the code unless your a TMobile customer. I tried calling them 8 times to get a code and they didn't want to give me it. I had to pay $40 for a code. Your best bet it to go on ebay and look for the code.
Good luck.
Yeah well I'm a T-Mobile customer so I'm good.

sometimes they want you to have it for X amount of time...so in that case just say you are going out of the country and want to use it on a different network. (if you need all that...) good luck.
i have unlocked allot of blackberrys and it usually only cost me 9 bucks, i cant believe it costs 45 bucks to unlock ther g2 so i can use it on att.
or am i missing something?
I have heard that if you call your carrier and ask for the unlock code they are legally obliged to give it to you. Now whether or not they will or this is true I don't know. I will try it some time myself I think

That is generally true, but there are various loopholes to that. For one, you need to be a current account holder at T-Mobile for them to give you the SIM unlock code. If this is not true for the OP, they don't need to supply it. If they are still a T-Mobile customer, it should be as easy as calling and asking for it. If they ask why, just tell them you are traveling abroad and want to use a foreign SIM. However, I also found the following tidbit on the Vision Wiki:
NOTE: T-Mobile does offer an unlock code to its loyal customers who are traveling overseas. You can call them and request it. However, as the XDA-forums can attest, some people have had difficulty with their codes, causing the phone to be unable to establish a connection to ANY network.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#One_at_a_time._What_is_Subsidy_Unlock_and_why_do_I_want_it.3F
The other free option is just root the phone and unlock the SIM yourself. See the following guide. Subsidy unlock is what you want, but you need to root first.

As far as the paid unlock option, there are numerous vendors of unlock codes on eBay that charge around $10-20. I haven't used one personally, but others on XDA have used them, and they work. Pick one that has a good seller rating.
I always call T-Mobile Customer Service and tell them am traveling overseas and they always give me that unlock codes.

The gfree/rage rooting method automatically SIM-Unlocks the G2/DZ. No need to pay for some code or beg the carrier. If a novice like me can do it, anyone can!
I found the Gfree method extremely easy to really unlock your phone! Forget paying more money!!

Some people are averse to rooting, as its been linked to infertility, balding, and thermonuclear war.
Which would explain why I'm bald and infertile
Sorry to hear about that.

That's why you unroot.
Ok so here's the deal. I know after root, unlocking the mt4g is simple. The root method i use always unlocks the phone.
But the thing is my friend wich bought a mytouch 4g locked lives in another country and is without root, and she's illiterate when it comes to windows and commands so having her root it is out of the question...
Is there any way to have it unlocked, or find out the unlock code without having to be rooted?
Any help would be much appreciated.

just remote access her computer and do it for her. or call t-mobile give them the IMEI number and they'll send you the code.
Yea, you can use an app like TeamViewer or such and root it from your pc.

Deal with it!

I hope this isn't a dumb question. But from what I understand when you have S-off do you have access to all the networks around you? Or are you still bound by your carrier? Thanks! and sorry if this has been answered before I tried searching S-off and other stuff but couldn't really find what I was looking for.
Call T-Mobile tell them yore going out of the country and they will send you the code.
I think it's that easy and I used different carriers in,Hong Kong,Mexico and the Philippines.
But that's with sim cards from those countries.

If you mean connecting to any network without being on their service...no you can't. that's illegal.

It's not illegal. It's called "roaming" and costs A LOT $$$.
To the OP:
S-OFF gives you the ability to flash anything to your phone's ROM (internal non-volatile memory). It doesn't have anything to do with cellular connectivity.
SIM unlock gives you the ability to use other carriers' SIM cards in your phone. It can be achieved through a part of the same rooting process that achieves S-OFF.
The quote below will guide your search:

Is there any way to make my phone go into roaming manually so tmo will cancel my contract? I've been wondering if this is possible for awhile now. My wife and I are very sick of getting throttled every month, but don't want to change plans and have them extend our contract again.
