Hello everyone,
Sometimes when I use my phone the 3G connection icon disappears from my status bar. From that moment on I have no internet unless I connect to WiFi (only at home). A restart of my phone is the only option to get connection again. WiFi is always turned off except at places where I have WiFi connection. My radio is the latest, and I'm using CM7 7.1.0.1 I'm not using any other mods to strenghthen my connection.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
Thanks in advance
when the 3g connection gets lost have you tried to use the 3g2g button to turn it back on? you can set it to the power bar by going to cyanogenmod settings/interface/notification power widget/widget buttons/toggle 2g/3g. then it will be in your notifications bar. also make sure its all enables by selecting notification power widget in the notification power widget section.

Tried this but doesn't work rebooting is the only working option so far. Sometimes my pages won't load even when I see the 3G icon (it's grey, if used it should turn blue).
hmmmm. have you thought about doing a fresh install.
try flash another radio maybe an old one ( I had the same prob and it worked for me ).
You can also do fresh install, this worked also for me, but the old radio worked better
Select the option for National roaming in the settings......

If everything else fails... hard reset. But I would try a few soft resets first, just to make sure. What are you running? (rom)
yea
stock tmobile us 2.10.531 , yea i guessss ima have to har reset ima put all my cabs on my mac reset and i guesss start over haha this sucks, i deleted the toggle and theres still no animation ima reset it a couple times i guess
wifi routrer still works and theres the tower with arrow anitmation and now it seems to be pickin up wifi i wonder if it will work after i turn it off or if it will continue to act up
I installed Extended controls and im sure it was around this sort of time it happened, but i looked up and see that the G symbol ive had for the passes 3-4 days had disappeared, i thought this wasa good thing and result of a button to switch data off, but can only find GPS button and switching that doesnt effect anything on the screen
obviously without this i cant get online on my phone so any quick help would be appreciated!
Extended controls does have an option to make a switch for that, try making a switch widget for data connection and then flip it?

data connection, ok thanks. i restarted phone and got it enabled back. Where in the standard options and settings for android is this located then? pretty good feature to save power when i dont want my phone checking or updating itself?
EDIT:
this button on extended controls doesnt work for me, and enabling it loses my internet connectivity and i cant get it back on, fail.
After restart this time my G symbol came back, and then disappeared ?
Ive read that 3G on can drain your battery alot more than 2g, i was wondering if there is a quick way to switch between the two as i have been going into the settings and through that way...
cheers
There are some widgets that are just a shorcut to the 2g/3g setting page, for example 2G-3G OnOff from CurveFish.
It's a shame android doesn't turn automatically 3g off when turning off the screen, maybe some custom rom will?
I use smoda widget, just search "smoda widget"and it'll appear. It's a convenient widget that switches your connection from 2g to 3g and vice versa. It's better than other widgets as it just selects and deselects 3g net work instead of changing apn settings like some others do.
Been using it for awhile now and it's great, always off 3g when I'm not using the phone and my batt drops only 3% in 8 hours !
Actually, Smoda doesn't switch between 2g/3g, it just turns off ANY data with just one-click. So, it will indeed improve battery life but you won't receive new mails or anything while switched off, while using only 2g will improve battery life AND let you get new mails (or anything else).
oh ok, well any other ideas?
The android SO doesn't allow that change. That'a why all you find is shortcuts to the menu where you can manually switch it.
There is an app that can do that but needs a custom cyanogen rom that doesn't exist for SGS.
The ideia behind that app is great. Is would switch to 2G when the phone goes to sleep and back to 3G if you wake it up. Has a few lag problems though. Anyhow it's not for SGS.
So get a good shotcut for it
I installed SmartBar, I have a shortcut to "Quick Settings" in the notification bar.
In Quick Settings there is 3g-2G icon that takes directly to the Mobile network settings" screen where you can change "Network Mode" to "G only.
With the firmware update it changed from 2G/3G to GSM/WCDMA. Having it on GSM definetly saves battery for me at home where I get lousy 3G reception.

Can you point which app is that? I thought it didn't exist.
i tried to download smart bar but it doesnt want to install, says install unsuccessfull
use Juice Defender
I am using Juice Defender and it will shut off 3G/2G when the screen is locked.
It also provides a widget to set mobile data off/on/controlled by Juice defender.
The free version can extend your battery life by 1.6.
I've tried having the Sense Data and Wi-Fi widgets on my home screen so I can turn off data while at home and turn off Wi-Fi when I'm not. I've also tried QuickSettings and MySettings from the app store for the same purpose. (Couldn't find the option in MySettings though.)
Anyway, it seems that my data settings end up corrupted when I use these. I've only had my Aria for a few days, so I haven't pinpointed which one is the culprit. Last night my data wouldn't connect no matter which button I pressed. I turned the phone off and back on, but still no data. When I compared my APN settings to a friend's Aria, I realized that a dash (-) had been added to a few of the settings like the server, etc. When I reset the APN settings to default, everything started working again.
Then earlier today, when I disabled my wi-fi and tried to enable the data, it wouldn't connect. I checked the APN settings and they seemed correct. I reset to default anyway, but it still wouldn't connect. This time when I turned the phone off and back on, everything worked fine.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Does SwitchPro have a data on/off switch? What's the most reliable way to enable wi-fi/disable cell data and vice-versa?
Let me ask another question.. if I turn on Wi-Fi when I'm at home, am I really even saving much battery by turning off the 3G data? Maybe I should just leave it on and not worry about this?
Well... no one seems to have an opinion on this one. I got rid of Quick Settings and MySettings, briefly downloaded SwitchPro, then refunded it and decided to go with Extended Controls. Really liking it so far. Haven't left the house yet to try the data on/off switch yet though and I don't get a signal at my house, so I can't try it here. I'll post results here later.
Not sure if any one else sees this issue but whenever I turn on Airplane mode and turn it off after a while, the bluetooth doesn't turn back on until reboot, I have tried to turn it back on either via the Bluetooth toggle or enable Bluetooth in Settings. When I tried to turn it on the switch would be shown as on but there is no connected device and I could not refresh the device list (the option is greyed out), and if I leave that Bluetooth screen and go back in again, the status is shown as of again. The only way to fix that is via reboot. Wifi and LTE signals are all OK though.
Does anyone else have this problem? I have a script to turn on airplane mode whenever I get no cellphone signal to save battery, but now I have to disable this to keep my Bluetooth connection on so that I can use the wristband.

Move to Oreo Beta2 .. that problem is definitely gone. I see some random reboots, but other than that the Beta2 update has been a solid improvement.
