[Q] Data toggle glitchy? - HTC Aria General

I've tried having the Sense Data and Wi-Fi widgets on my home screen so I can turn off data while at home and turn off Wi-Fi when I'm not. I've also tried QuickSettings and MySettings from the app store for the same purpose. (Couldn't find the option in MySettings though.)
Anyway, it seems that my data settings end up corrupted when I use these. I've only had my Aria for a few days, so I haven't pinpointed which one is the culprit. Last night my data wouldn't connect no matter which button I pressed. I turned the phone off and back on, but still no data. When I compared my APN settings to a friend's Aria, I realized that a dash (-) had been added to a few of the settings like the server, etc. When I reset the APN settings to default, everything started working again.
Then earlier today, when I disabled my wi-fi and tried to enable the data, it wouldn't connect. I checked the APN settings and they seemed correct. I reset to default anyway, but it still wouldn't connect. This time when I turned the phone off and back on, everything worked fine.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Does SwitchPro have a data on/off switch? What's the most reliable way to enable wi-fi/disable cell data and vice-versa?

Let me ask another question.. if I turn on Wi-Fi when I'm at home, am I really even saving much battery by turning off the 3G data? Maybe I should just leave it on and not worry about this?

Well... no one seems to have an opinion on this one. I got rid of Quick Settings and MySettings, briefly downloaded SwitchPro, then refunded it and decided to go with Extended Controls. Really liking it so far. Haven't left the house yet to try the data on/off switch yet though and I don't get a signal at my house, so I can't try it here. I'll post results here later.

N1 data connection issue... please help!

Hi everyone, I had a quick question I needed your assistance on.
Sometime I put my N1 into Airplane mode to save battery and when I finally turn airplane mode off I can never seem to get a data connection unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Coming out of Airplane mode there will be a 3g signal on the status bar but only the up arrow will light up and anything needing data (browser, market, etc) wont work unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Is this happening to you too?
The same thing happens if I open up the Quick Settings app and turn off mobile data (to save battery) and when I turn mobile data back on I have to restart the phone entirely for it to work properly.
It seems like my phone might be having an issue with data connection so I might have to call up HTC about it but I wanted to find out from the other members on the forum if this was happening to them too.
Thank you for your help
It's happened to me before using APNdroid.
Apparently you can fix it by turning the radio on and off in the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#), never tried it though.
Check that:

GPRS connectivity disappeared?

I installed Extended controls and im sure it was around this sort of time it happened, but i looked up and see that the G symbol ive had for the passes 3-4 days had disappeared, i thought this wasa good thing and result of a button to switch data off, but can only find GPS button and switching that doesnt effect anything on the screen
obviously without this i cant get online on my phone so any quick help would be appreciated!
Extended controls does have an option to make a switch for that, try making a switch widget for data connection and then flip it?

data connection, ok thanks. i restarted phone and got it enabled back. Where in the standard options and settings for android is this located then? pretty good feature to save power when i dont want my phone checking or updating itself?
EDIT:
this button on extended controls doesnt work for me, and enabling it loses my internet connectivity and i cant get it back on, fail.
After restart this time my G symbol came back, and then disappeared ?

[Solved] 3G/Edge Gone

Started happening the other day. I was using WiFi and didn't notice that my 3G/Edge icons had disappeared. Last night I turned of WiFi at home and noticed the problem because I didn't have any data connection.
Tried everything beyond a factory reset. Did some trouble shooting with Tmobile (including a reset on their side) and next step is to do the reset.
Only thing that I can think of effecting the phone recently was installing a battery saver app (battery fu from the market) that supposedly controls data access to save energy. I uninstalled it and did a recent but the data problem still exists.
Anyone experience this problem or have other suggestions how to troubleshoot? Outside of my 30 days. Stock phone.

If it's the same thing that happens to me a couple times a day, this is the fix:
Go to settings -> wireless and network ->mobile networks -> access point names. Push menu button and choose reset to default.
For some reason, after the standard epc.tmboile.com it adds wpn-disabled or something to that effect in the APN.

Thanks for your tip. That was exactly the problem, but in my case it had something along the lines of batteryfu disabled. After switching back to internet + mms, everything is back to normal.
What a crappy application batteryfu is when it doesn't clean-up after itself. I'm going back and giving the app a very negative review.
This happened to me. I went to Go to settings -> wireless and network ->mobile networks -> access point names and under T-Mobile US there was "epc.tmobile.com[disbaled].
I clicked it though, and all the way down, I clicked APN type.
I selected Internet+MMS and my 3G icon came back.
Everything was working.
I still had the [disabled] in brackets... so I did the "Reset to Default" and it changed back to normal.
Been searching this ALL DAY today... and fixed it. I finally found this thread. Too late... but good to know.

[Q] Location/Network problems/delays (stock 4.3)

Hi,
I have some problems with finding my location, and I think it started since the 4.3 update, but I'm not sure.
I see it mostly with Tasker. I have some profiles for different locations (like home and college..) triggered by "net" without GPS, that is ment to turn Wifi on and off.
I noticed today when I left college, I opened the screen on the way home and I saw for a brief moment that the WiFi is still ON and my "college" profile was still activated, and immediately after that, the profile went off and also the WiFi. The Net location only triggered when I opened the screen, and it seems it thought my location was still in college until I did so.
When I got home, I opened the screen to see if it activated my "home" profile and turned on the WiFi, and nope, nada, even when opened the screen it still didn't know my location, only after I turned on the WiFi manually it knew where I am and activated the "home" profile (which in that case was already pointless)..
My guess is that on the way back from college it found my location when I opened the screen cause the WiFi was still on, and when I came back home the WiFi was off so it didn't find my location without it.
But if that's the case, then there is simply no point in those "wifi on / off" profiles if it can only find my location with WiFi.
I posted a similar thread on Tasker support group, but honestly I think it's a problem with the google's new location services.
What's that point? now we can get a good location fix only with WiFi or GPS?
and also why I must turn on the screen to "refresh" the location? isn't "net location" works on the 3g network? which is always on, so what's the problem.
By the way these network delays doesn't only happen with location, it happens alot with messaging apps, that sometimes I get the messages only when I turn on the screen. Is there a fix for that?
Sorry for throwing out so many questions without order
Thanks in advanced

Yah, I'm experiancing the same issues.

WiFi turning on by itself

Hi,
My H990DS has been bothering me for a couple of days as WiFi turns itself on without any kind of intervention.
Turning it off manually or having the phone restart does not help. I made sure the latest apps installed make no impact.
Playing with Developer Options made no difference.
I am ready to Factory Data reset.
Anyone experienced something similar ?
Thanks,
My 918 always shows wifi active in GSAM's graph, even when set to "Never" under the "Wifi on while inactive" option in system settings. I ended up just downloading Leandroid from the play store and setting it to disable the wifi radio, and renable it periodically to check for push messages. Seems to work fine with doze and standby time has improved.
Under settings, location, three dots top right, scanning, turn wifi scanning off. It turns back on anytime you use wifi and you manually have to turn it back off each time.
Mine (918) does this all the time. Im thinking its a 7.0 thing. There has been a few exceptions where it has stayed off. In my case I drive through a busy section in town and it constantly connects to the 20 or so open wifi spots so I turn it off. Well once I pull into the garage at home its magically back on.
Maybe something to do with networks it recognizes, Xfinity wifi wreaks havoc on it as well.
As soon as I uninstalled the latest apps, the issue disappeared. Not a single exception in 24 hours.
I suspect a Sip Client had caused the problem.

What!?
That sounds utterly horific for the battery, nevermind privacy concerns. I thankfully haven't experienced anything similar myself, but I've only ever used custom ROMs so perhaps that's the cause. But that sounds terrible.
