No, it doesn't. The only trick is to restore the system folder to it's original state, because the update fails. I'm with 62 rooted in that way.

Come on guys, so much threads about .62 root, so use these threads.

If you use SEUS, it will remove the root, so its your choice really
Bloke

New firmware on seus.

Just tried using seus to reflash my x8 due to brick. And it says there's new firmware available, anyone tried it? New features? Didn't update incase of loosing root. Used x10 flash instead.

About a week ago i have downgrade to 1.6 (donut)
I just curius about donut because i haven't seen it before.i got my x8 in eclair state.
After i done with it,i use SEUS to upgrade to eclair again.
I have already run SEUS for 2.1update1 so i have the SEUS DB download at my laptop.
When i do the update, SEUS download data about 106mb
before this time it's download about 126mb.
I don't see any difrences after the updates.
just my Model name From x8 changed to e15i
maybe it because i downgrade to donut
There is none.
Maybe thats the 2nd release of 2.1? With ANT+ stuff.
Ok thanks for replys, still rootable then?

If it isnt then go back with Flashtool and Flash 2.1.1.A.0.6

My experience is that if you update with PCC the baseband won't be ...015, and the build won't be the newest. But with SEUS iit will be. And then you are able to install 2.2 floyo. So I prefer SEUS.

If i flash CyanogenMod 7 is there a possibility to brick my Arc?

Hi
I downloaded the repository of cyanogenMod it run gingerbread 2.3.4 so i am trying to port to Arc and try to learn and i built it, its generic and i tested it on the emulator and it worked.
now if i want to flash my Arc for a test will it brick my Arc???
i have the system.img but i am not sure if its safe to test it on my Arc and not briking it. if not then i will test and if anything happened i will reflash with Bin4ry's image.
unless you've modded it to work with the Arc hardware (drivers/ screen resolution etc) then it simply won't work.. so you probably shouldn't bother taking the risk..
There is already someone working on this.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057555
yes i am monitoring the thread. but i wanted to try to miss and take a look on the files.
Chances are u could just use flashtool and it would be fine

He has bootloader unlock and might be better to push Bin4ry's .img file.
Well yea that way would save his data but if it sent work obviously flashtool send me the cm7 over ill try n boot it aswell

It's impossible to brick the phone completely by flashing system.img. So you're safe.
Thanks guys.

Do I need to unlock my bootloader to use autoroot?
How I wish this update would be done via OTA..
main reason for me is I don't want to lose root and to I don't want to flash also because restoring 14gb+ of data will be a lot of work for me.. I'm thinking not to use titanium backup instead I will just copy all my sd card files to my PC as a backup file.. But I fear that if i return all my files back to sd card after update some apps/games might not work properly.
autoroot would be a great idea though, but I don't trust the guy who said it.. I think felix is just boosting his post count by lurking around this forum, giving incomplete details, always saying "there is already thread about that", and other non sense post just to boost his post count.. No pun intended felix..
I think many/most people with a locked bootloader are waiting for the ota (myself included). The ota for the arc xloud update came a while after it arrived on Pc Companion/SEUS so i guess it just a waiting game now for when it arrives.

Im not sure myself since i also have the play but i think it was a few weeks. I just noticed a similar discussion on the arc forum (about if they will loose root) and a few weeks later people were getting the update over ota. But like the last update not every country has had the ota update yet only some.
OTA update 4.0.A.2.368 available + remain rooted (arc)
got the update via OTA today! (Philippines)
and i managed to preserve root!
Yey!
I got the ota update last night. UK generic version

Thats how i did it anyway, you dont need unlocked B00TLoader to use FlashTooL so maybe try that?It may not work though and pretty risky too
I read somewhere you don't need unlocked bootloader to use flashtool but if you try to flash custom kernel via flashtool you need an unlocked bootloader....
I tried ota (uk generic) today but after download I get 'could not install software' error.

My .253 keeps telling me theirs an update. 253

So yes flashed a clean. 253 and it Kris telling me their is an update. Tried two different FTFs

+1 to this. Can't upload cause bootloader unlocked but if i relock it I cant turn on my phone and dont know why
Did you install a recovery? I've seen that happen with TWRP installed, I suppose it needs to be updated to .253
+1 I have exactly the same issue. You can not even dismiss the notification op the OTA update. I was on 434 and rooted. Flashed via CWM the 253.
Try uninstalling or freezing the Update Centre app.
Okay Force Stop, Clear Data does not work once the Update Center restarts the notification is back. Had to freeze the application for now until fix can be found.

If you mean you've froze or uninstalled it and still getting the notification then try freezing the Update Service.

I also have the same problem. Flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279661 and still get the OTA update notification since two days ago. I have also attempted OTA but it fails during update.

You must flash back stock kernel using Flash Tools before can locked back bootloader.
Locked bootloader don't work with any 3rd party Kernel if you had flash before, example DooMLoRD kernel or the DooMLoRD recovery which include it own kernel as well.

Flash back stock kernel of .253 ROM (from any .253 ROM FTF) via Flash Tools will prevent the un-stop mentioning of new firmware available. Remember only flash the Kernel, not the whole ROM by untick Data, Cache, Appslog, Kernel, and Fota at Flash Tools.
