Thanks to you All - Nexus S General

I just wanted to leave you all with my personal thank you. I am not a complete expert on Android and our Nexus S, and on most of the other forums here on XDA I have found only people who leave... somewhat rude and un-courteous responses.
When I come here all I want is to be treated with respect, just because I know less then some devs doesn't mean that those devs should talk down to me
Yet here, on the Nexus S forums, I don't really have this issue.
Thank you all for being good someritans, and for making the Nexus S forums a place I really enjoy coming to.
And not to mention, all you devs doing amazing work for our phones.

Welcome man!!!
Greetzz, Jojoost

We were all noobs once. You'll pick up on stuff pretty quick, just be sure to read as much as you can and make use of the search function, as most likely, your question has already been asked and answered. Good luck.

Development Thread is Polluted!

Is it just me or is there WAY too many ROMs now? To be honest, options are always good, but it seems there are so many different ROMs being pushed out and that worries me. It seems the Development thread is getting polluted with all these roms. Most of them seeming useless, at least to me. But what do I know?
Note: Maybe I'm getting tired of waiting for TW
This thread is D.O.A. People complain when there's too little activity in the dev section, but I've never seen anyone complain about too much activity...
Just because TW is your favorite team, doesn't mean they should be the only ones posting roms.
This has got to be the most BS complaint the vibrant forum ever had. Well that's just what I think don't know about what the others will say.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
<rant> For god's sake can we please stop with posting threads like this? Its of absolute no benefit to the community. Like stated previously by tgc first people complain the community is dying nwo that its thriving yall want to complain more? If you think something in the dev thread is of no use to you then dont bother with it, choices are good, and i for one am glad that there are new roms being put out there by new devs/dev teams that are giving us more quality stuff to play with.
So once more I implore not only you but everyone to please stop posting these useless threads. </rant>
I for one am a fan of choice. Whether it be aosp, sammy themes or ports. Bring em on. If you like a single choice that's well received, I hear they call it an iphone

Is this a joke? At first there was to less development, and now theres to much? Wow, go away.
You guys just got trolled. LOL
What?! Too many ROMs?! I thought the Vibrant forum was dying!

OP is right!!
Thread closed................
Cheers,
M_T_M

I think its dumb. Just my op.

I think its dumb you guys locked the ics thread. Regardless if it was drews actual post or not the whole point of android is do what you want and ics and a port and thread and comments and rants and what not is the whole point of forums like this. Hello nexus s development has not one thing on it about ics. That should seem odd. Maybe I need to fire up my nexus one. How can we progress if u take away the online progress. I understand the guy has his own site and what not but that was are only insight into ics on xda. And we use the only phone that's going to get it first . Stop being online nerds. And let people complain there going to do it anyways. And then its too complicated they way you want it. Every post is not going to to as nice a professional as a cm thread. Let people talk that's how you come to understand not every body is a phone guru. You need conversation as well as knowledge. I'm just sayin. Now when is beta 10 coming who knows but I bet the guy with the random twitter post knows more than I do but we can't share that info now. You guys are missing the whole point. Just sayin. And to anyone who is personally offended sorry excuse the marijuana and red stripe. Helllllllllo laddddddy lol

Agreed 100% the mods here are dimwitted and forum bashing is just how forums operate. Its sad to see threads locked up.

if im missing something here, please let me know.. but doesnt it say that the thread is "locked as per OP request", the OP being the person that started the thread. as far as i know, you can start another different ICS thread if you want.

Stop being logical - let this guy fire up his Nexus One again and remove some of the nonsense drivel from these forums.
All i know is the person that starts the new one BETTER KEEP THE OP UPDATED OR DONT EVEN BOTHER. I hate when people want to be cool and start a thread and then abandon it.

Great community to have been in

Just wanted to say over all this community is pretty good. It is time I move on to another device. Gonna sell my atrix and get a better computer. My little atom 1.6 NetBook sucks and I feel like I can't do real development until I get a better computer like I had in my x10 development days. I always wanted to try the aTrix so bought one.. It was always a second phone as I have a gs2.
I appreciate everyone trying my roms and any help others have given me. I will have the phone for a week or two more so will tidy up some roms if I can before leaving.
Regards

Which ROM should I choose?

I've recently bought my Nexus 7 32GB Wifi, and I'm kinda flashaholic... And since I'm new to this device, I don't really know which ROMs are the best... As I've seen, most of the ROM OPs do not post ROM-bugs, which I find pretty frustrating, so I'll give you guys a list over things I'm looking for (I think you know more great ROMs than me, since I've just had my Nexus for 4 days!).
I like the stock ROM very much because of its stability, but I miss some customizations!
Okay, here's the list over what I'm looking for:
-A very stable and bugless (almost) ROM!
-A well-featured ROM with many customizations...
-A fast and powerfull ROM which don't shorten my tablets lifetime! (I'm thinking of no under/overvoltage, etc...
-And ofc... Android 4.2.1+
-The ability to place any widget on the lockscreen!
-Good battery-life!
Don't hate me if I want too much...
Thanks!

Which food should you like? What color should be your favorite? Like the subject matter of your post, no one can, or should, answer these questions but you. Test drive some and see what YOU like best... see what performs best on your unique hardware.
Oh, and IBTL.

I totally agree to the above opinion. To select your ROM, the following thread may help you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36018963
If this is your 1st time to flash a custom ROM, i recommend CyanogenMod or AOKP. If you're looking for ROMs for tablet UI, please try ParanoidAndroid or SGT7.
Anyway ,try many ROMs to find out your favorite. enjoy
Seriously? If you scroll down just a little, you will see 1000 people who asked the same question. Read those. People starting new threads to ask this exact question twice every day insane, and has to be bad for server space. The devs take alot of time to write out exactly what their rom offers, bugs, pros and cons so you can be educated. To not read them and take the lazy route and srart a new thread is disrespectful to their efforts. Sorry, but after seeing this same thing so many times, it gets rediculous.

I was actually asking for your opinion, not hate because I'm curious! And I've never seem to find a good ROM with looking in other threads made by people with other needs!
And, no! This is not the first time I've flashed a ROM!

The issue is that thread such this are tiredly pointless. No one but you can answer your question. The only rom that you should choose is the one that you try for yourself and; ends up being what you like. No one is clairvoyant enough to predict what will give you the feature set you'll be happiest with or how a given rom will perform on your unique hardware.
The mods invariably lock these threads a soon as they catch wind of them for this very reason. I imagine the only reason it survived as long as it has is only because it hasn't popped up on their radar yet.
Rather than wasting your time and energy asking what you should choose, go to the Dev forum, read up on some of the offerings available, and then test drive the ones that pique your interest until you find the one that satisfies you.
No hate- just sound, practical advice.

Lots of nice people on droid. Awesome!!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Understand your frustration - all of those with the bad luck of having or OTA'ing to MF3 are going bonkers. . .Really don't have any clue since this appears to be one of the truly hard fixes (oops... exploits) to find.
As to friendly Android folks, well actually there are. Even here . OK, you are right that XDA is different. Some threads are rather prickly and if you jump in with a "stray" comment they jump in and flame and complain.
But other threads are more mellow; and you can see the same, same, same, same, same, same, same, same, question asked again and again and someone will politely (more or less) answer these queries or refer the questioner to the right spot. . . So, that's not unusual. (sorry, the hot/repeat question these days seems to be . . . .MF3 ETA! :crying
But all this in not unique to Android. In the Apple support pages, which I frequent every now and then for my MAC issues, I found some rather brusque replies and non-helpful at that! It's not a function of OS. . .it's people and organizational/group culture.
XDA is a real mix of intense, "bleeding-edge" developers and users, who push their software and hardware in very dynamic ways, but who also can be edgy -and not in a good way.
XDA also has "normal" folks, who drop in for help, or add something they like and (unfortunately) sometimes even want to share it with others .
Finally, XDA has people (some with surprisingly high numbers of posts!) who have hardware or software problems and need help, but are also clueless. Sometimes folks in this last group are in need of help AND they are impatient or even demanding of the reply posters. . . that's kind of not a good approach!
I guess that makes XDA sort of like real life, it all depends upon who you meet!
There is no doubt that XDA can be a bit off-putting if you don't connect in the right way for the particular thread. but is that happens, don't worry about it! The next thread will be more helpful or understandable, or maybe even friendly . . .
Good Luck

There are plenty of nice people dankify... I'm one of them. But when I saw the title of this thread, my mind instantly went "uh oh".
It's something most of us had to learn on XDA, and it's usually the first lesson. Never ask for ETAs for anything. Never ever ever. There are some that get very bent about it, and in some cases understandably so, since everything done on here is done by donation and lots of thankless free time.
I'm no coder, I'm a leech, so I just try to help out where I can. I'm waiting for the MF3 bootloader unlock too, and it'll come. We just have to watch the forums and be patient.
Also, welcome to Android. I think you're going to find that you like it here, this one bump in the road aside
I appreciate it. Ya I'm so glad to have gotten rid of my crapy apple. Am able to do so much without mods that was needed on the iPhone to even do some. Can't imagine how cool it will be to get a custom rom. Hopefully soon

Sorry man, there are a lot of friendly and helpful people here. Just some etiquette to learn as many of us have been here a long time. The best thing you can do is read, read and learn. You'll always get a helping hand if you follow that. Welcome and the best to you!
