[Q] Android UI - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was surfing YouTube today and came across some ' Android UI ' like ' SENTIO ' .
wanted to ask you people what exactly is it and how's it different from the launchers we have ? Thanks and waiting

It's only a concept, nobody is really working on that. Another vaporware UI that died once graphics artist was done with mockups.

So that means there's nothing like that anywhere around here ?
And what exactly is the difference between ui and launcher ?

UI : its an interface using which the user interacts with the machine/electronic device
Launcher: Its an app which lets the user to customize how the UI should be.. it launches all the available applications in the system and gives an option for the user to customize how it should look..etc

hmm .. to be more clear ..
if u take a Google nexus mobile .. its has the basic UI of android with out any customizations .. (its the original flavor) ..
Now, Motorola takes that android and added its own customizations and named it as "MotoBlur" , HTC did its own customizations and named it as "HTC Sense" , Samsung named it as "TouchWiz" ......
Hope u got my point !!
UI is a process and Launcher is a app which helps in making that process look more appealing !!

Last para was all i needed thanks.

changing blue x10 theme

i am new to android ,but i want to know how to change the blue theme of my x10 as i don't like blue ,and where can i download themes
i believe themes can only be applied to their specific Roms, and Roms can only be applied once rooted...but since we have no root, there are no x10 roms
you can change the basic wallpaper, but i dont believe you can change the stock blue background when you are in menus, contacts, etc
sad to hear that as i hate the ble interface i prefere black

Well, a new firmware from SE will introduce "creatouch" and then, we will have themes & co.
Until then, just change the wallpaper.
By the way, i like this blue.... Coming from Nokia 5800xm, this blue is wonderful I will hate to loose it (together with timescape) when new roms will appear.
I'm tired of black.

You're confusing a theme and a wallpaper.
Themes change colors/fonts of menus etc. wallpaper us just a background, which I would hope you already know you can customize.
Install Home ++ in the Android Market. It is a full theme and a damn good one! Plus it has a new task killer that works better than any other ones. Loving it!

You can change the wallpaper now without any Creatouch.
By "Creatouch™, an application that allows the user to personalize the home screen" i understand something else but well, we will see.

Hahahahah, still laughing quite hard here.
Not so sure about yourself anymore are you? Creatouch is probably the most useless app ive seen on android yet.
AND STILL no option to change the theme (Well into android 2.1 - )
Anyway thanks again for the laugh.

You dragged up a thread from May to say that?

Wm7 do I or don't I ?

Right. I am a android fan with the openess of android and customizing it to the Max's with custom roms and what not. But for me is the Ui customization side of it that I am instreaded in. So what I wanna know can you customize it to your own needs like custom icons for apps ? Animation ? Just looking into getting one to play with .. got HD2.. SGS and DHD... just wanna add to my collection lol

Nope and nope.
About the only visualisations you can modify are the theme and tile colours. There are some presets, but you can also use the registry hack to change it to your heart's content (details here).
EDIT: That's not quite true. You can also change the lockscreen wallpaper and the pictures hub background.

If you aren't tired of the endless tinkering, customizing, theming...then WP7 may not be the best device for you. But if you just want a sleek, fast/no lag/no hiccups of a phone that simply works...then yes WP7 is a good choice.
Well the Samsung was the phone that I was gonna get. Just the HTC HD7 is just bit to much like the rest of the HTC phones and the Samsung just looks a hole lot better.. na I like to tweak it so yea might be a good edition I am just a little worried with the lack of apps and lack of forms on this phone and wm7 on XDA don't seem to have many subjects and chats... still early days tho with wm7 so hopfuly some one will crack it and make a full customise rom.....

Agree. I got tired of always tinkering and flashing roms on my hd2. Windows Phone 7 is polished enough to remove the need for messing around and mods.
Also games and apps are higher quality.
Also happy not to see any sexy girl wallpaper apps im sure that makes up for 50% of android market

[Q] iPhone skin

Hey guys,
Can anyone tell me if there is a good iPhone skin for the Xperia X8?
I love the iPhone's OS and would love the look on the Android system.
Thanks for any help.
there exists an homescreen app which looks a bit like the apple iphone menu:
iHome:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nd.android.ihome
Good iPhone skin huh? Have you ever try iDroid?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151816
here it is.
I'm making an Iphone theme for CM7 right now. Hopefully I will release it. I just need some help about technical stuff.
thanks guys, i've had a look at i home and it seems to force close, and the iDroid seems to run slow. thanks though.
Dude, try GingerDx by doixanh! it works like a charm.

You can make it by your self... all you have to do is download some iphonish icons for apps you use, than make it for launcher pro theme.. cuz LP doesn't support chaging icons on home screens...
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7754 tutorial is here and it's not so hard... you may learn something on the way
Than download dock background place your icons on it
Than just swipe left and right for your apps, no need to go to app drawer.
Ofc, you can change system theme too...to get even more iphonish look..
That's what I did... and it really looks nice... Not perfect but nice
thanks for the info! i'm trying this as we speak!
Orrrr even better: download some MIUI theme for LP and place the icons on homescreens
Download some icons for dock and here you go

I didn't saw any Iphone look theme for X8, so you can go to the market and download a theme for your launcher..
If you want "NO APPDRAWER" -- just put icons of your apps to your homescreen
You can easily customize dock by replacing dockbackground
Simple as that.
You can do whatever you want with android... even if you're noob.
Try ADW, you can download icon packs and change all your icons on homescreens and also have custom docks.

MIUI 4: Would you use it?

The MIUI patchrom was updated today to support the MIUI 4 (ICS) base. According to the README in the MiCode repo it looks like we meet the prerequisites to use the patchrom. I've used MIUI on my handset before so I wouldn't deny it on my tablet to say the least. The features are great and there is no end to customization of the ROM. The launcher isn't optimized for tablets but I guess Trebuchet or the stock ICS launcher is still usable. Hopefully a dev will hook us up (or if it doesn't require building the whole OS maybe even I can do it).
So I guess the question is: Would you use MIUI on your Iconia?
Hells yes

I couldn't disagree more. Miui is one of the most customizable roms available, ios is built to allow almost no customization.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
Yea I agree it may share "some ios similarities" but all in all it is a very customizable android Rom I've used miui on my inc and inspire plus my old nook but took it off my nook after 24 hrs of use because sizing was terrible and it was a huge phone. But if a dev manages to create a miui masterpiece as well as the devs over at miuiandroid/miui.us bring it on!

If you think the UI is all that is different (or at the very least, all that MIUI has to offer), you've probably never used MIUI. Or at least not long enough to discover what it has to offer.
Let's not forget it's still Android at heart. And as far as Android goes, the level of customization is far beyond any other offering. You can turn off whatever you don't like theme-wise and use whatever launcher you're currently enjoying. If you're going to judge it on UI alone, then you're missing out on a whole lot.
EDIT: Of course, I have no idea how well it even works on tablets. I don't know if the MIUI team really considered the tablet aspects of ICS when making version 4. But like I said, any suitable tablet launcher should still work perfectly fine.

While MIUI does allow for you to tweak the way icons and the lockscreen look, the base functionality and user experience are heavily influenced by iOS. A fresh install of MIUI looks strikingly like an iOS device, with the addition of a clock widget.

But if I was to turn off all of the MIUI UI options and use a different launcher, why would I want to use MIUI at all? Why not use a stripped down version of a stock rom?
Personally, I didn't see the appeal of MIUI. Sure I could download a ton of themes but they never were well designed. I wind up making my own themes anyway, so I would rather have a ROM that was as lean as possible and theme it as I need. If you like MIUI, juice by you.. but I've tried it and it wasn't for me.

I think what FloatingFatMan meant was that MIUI feels like it is trying to mimic iOS. I would have to agree with FloatingFatMan on this point...it feels too much like an iPhone interface.

Please could you show me how it's iPhone interface like ?
because I don't see the iPhone feeling on my MiUI.....
-> and by the way iPhone copied the Samsung interface as well....
if it's just about square icons on a grid and a ribbon on the lower part A lot of phone interface so are iPhone(samsung) like...
Just to be clear I am not an iPhone hater, I just bored about people who think iPhone (Apple) is a revolution and are the one create all.... nope... they just improve, or copy and got a strong marketing behind that's it.
So if I take my MiUI interface I got
- Widget (iPhone does not have that)
- A neat slide swipe animation between each screen (with effect or not)
- A way to can change really everything inside (wallpaper, starting animation, lockscreen, etc...)
- A music player directly accessible from the lockscreen (double tap on the time)
- no slide to unlock from left to right (but can be installed via a theme named iPhone...)
- etc..
well I got more than expected on my stuttering Liquid Metal... miUI give it a new life, and memory freedom.
so let me know how it's same I will be pleased to see.

To me, the overall layout just reminds me of iOS, and I'm simply not a fan of that style. I'm not saying it is bad, just not my cup of tea. I understand it is still Android underneath it (AOSP) and it is customizable, but I guess the way the launcher is laid out just has the feel of iOS, at least to me.
But everyone has their preferences.

How is miui an ios wannabe? You realize you can change the theme to whatever you want, right?

iOS and MIUI are not same.
maybe a very old version of miui theme was with the same background (wow that makes all the feeling... iBackground?)
Similarities or Same ?
Similarities... Oh my god yes there is ... but since Apple didn't created the "User Interface" of phones neither "Icons" we cannot compare MiUI with iOS... they got idea from something else before as well.
stop comparing all against iOS or iPhone... that will be better.
1) it's not iOSlike
2) it's android
3) we can change everything we want in Miui... and make it looks like iPhone if we want just by applying a theme... but the default theme is not iPhone like at all.. really not at all..
Please people, use the things before making statement...

[Video] LG G3 5.0 Lollipop (19H) [TEST BUILD]

I know there are some people afraid of flashing 5.0 for now for reasons like losing unlock or root, but I don't need that so I flashed 5.0.
Here is a video I made. Quick look of the 5.0 interface.
UI is very fast and stable. No force closes so far. I think battery life is better but I tested it only for 1 day.
I also wanted to show you Battery Saver which has been through big change (good change IMO), but I couldn't since phone was plugged in.
I accidentally forgot to show you Recents and lockscreen, dont get mad please
Thanks for sharing but i have to be honest here

The reason that nobody (including me) show anything else than this is because everything remained the same. There is no point in showing you what you already got on 4.4 roms. Isnt it? Icons at homescreen and month calendar widget are apps from Play Store. All LG's apps mostly remained the same.
There isnt much new magic in Lollipop dude just some visual changes and of course
ART
New Recents
New Notification Bar
Lockscreen Notifications
Really cool animations
I think the best 5.0 changes are the 2000 new APIs we will see some magic in the future you will see bro
Android just got even more awesome with Lollipop
I have a G3 too and I wanted to know if i flash this "test build" can I still get the automatic update from LG when the official will come out ? thanks
