Last time I saw that, someone was charging $30. I wouldn't send my Kindle to a stranger and send $15 on top of that. Just sounds like bad juju.

You need to look around the site a bit. This place is FULL of people that can help you do it yourself. I have only been here a short time but the amount of know how and help given here is great. I instantly fell in love with it.

I wouldn't trust my Kindle to a person with handwriting like that :/

Did you watch his video, he's got the camera the wrong way 99% of the time.....

Oh... and add to all of this that his username on reddit was "DickSmegma" and 5 days ago he was posting there asking how to install CM7 and how it was "all so confusing!" To top it all off he posted his personal phone number on Craigslist!? Apparently he was getting repeatedly text messaged. Nothing wrong with making a few bucks for providing a service but he's also offering to install ICS which is hardly fully-working & reliable at this point.

There are tons of these ads on Craigslist now...same for jailbreaking an iphone or hacking ps3/360
Everybody tryin to make a buck...I guess if people are willing to pay him...why the hell not

I was totally going to call this guy to get me Kindle rooted proper like! But I couldn't read his phone number!

Come on guys, my nails arn't that bad. Jeez, why so much hate? I will explain it like I did to reddit. There are hundreds of posts asking for $50 to root a phone, im only asking 15. KFU makes everything pretty safe. I have managed to root about 8 peoples phones, and 3 kindles without a problem thus far. Im just a college kid trying to make a buck, not a ripoff arist. I check this fourm twice a day for updates and new information. I even donated $20 to jcase 3 days ago before all this drama.
I had a guy email me the other day offering me $50 of I could root his Nook and get netflix to work, and you know what I did? I sent him a article from pcmag.com about last months nook update that allowed netflix.

Y u no root it yourself?

I'm taking a dose of the only cure for flashoholism...

This phone is draining my time and killing my soul. Selling it before my wife chooses to sell me. There are more important things to focus on in my life. Already changed back to my faithful Env3. and busted out my 7MP point-and-shoot camera. Ah, the good 'ol days
PM me if you want to make an offer. Close to mint condition. A few minor scratches on the screen that happened before I applied the screen protector. Can't really even see them. Stock battery. Everything works great. Currently running MIUI, but of course you can flash what you like. I can throw in an 8GB card. Offers via PM only, please. I live near Houston, TX if that means anything to you.
I'll post to Ebay and transact it that way if it makes you feel better, but I'll have to take a slightly higher offer to cover their gouging commissions. As of now, it's not on Ebay.
You can see from my post count that I'm not new to XDA. This is legit.
Moderators, let me know if there's a more appropriate place to put this. I figured it was pretty 'general'.

Rooting Service !
Long time browser, first time contributor.
Sounds to me like they are offering a service just like fixing a car or installing Linux. Not sure why that qualifies them as “scumbags”.
I'm not very technical, and like several others have mentioned, would gladly pay someone to root my phone.
I did call them about my rooting my Inspire a few months back, and they did offer replacement protection against bricking my unit. Also, if I mess-up my device in the future, I can always send it back to them for repair – no charge.
If everything on the xda-threads worked perfectly, I too wouldn’t mind rooting myself. But, I can see from several threads, some of which are over 1000 pages long, that things don’t always go right – I don’t have time for that (as much fun as it sounds).
Find me a member of ebay, craigslist or XDA-Developers who will do the same job for less, with the same guarantee, and I’d move my business to them – I have yet to find anybody.
Everyone is good at something.
Not everyone is good at everything.
I wish I thought about this stuff before those guys did.

ATRIX is my LAST Motorola product

So my phone has this problem of only intermittently vibrating when I get a text/call. So I got an RMA and sent it in. First off, the lost it, and took several days and several phone calls to find somebody who was able to locate my phone. They then told me that it was not under warranty because it was physical damage. They said the main board was bent. Somehow I was apparently able to bend the phone enough to bend the main board but not crack the screen or back or anything else. So they said they could sell me a phone for $179 (no way). Sounds like crap to me........ I'll be buying Samsung next time.

I agree! Samsung makes good phones, but the touchwiz icons make me feel like I should use velcro shoes, safety scissors, finger paints, ect.

Universal motorola root method Discovered

So well known hacker, Dan Rosenberg has managed to root the Droid 4 and possibly discovered a universal motorola root method. He initially requested $200 so he could purchase the Droid 4 and then he would deliver the root method and has since released the necessary batch script as that goal was reached.
Now he is promised a universal motorola root method when $500 is donated. I'd like to believe this is legit.
Anyway, I'm posting this here because as far as I know, the Xyboard/Xoom 2 has still yet to be rooted and there is no forum for that device so I'm sure there are plenty xyboard/xoom 2 owners here anxiously hoping for a root method.
Here's the link to the story and within it a link to the donate page if you're interested.
Is xda gonna fix the prem app? No links work

TBH, I'm tired of Android users thinking that because the OS is open, everything should be. So many people that I know (or see on reddit) and one of the first questions: what are some FREE apps that I should get? Its probably one of the contributing factors to why iOS has so more apps: their users are actually willing to pay for quality.

He was shocked when people reacted negatively to his $500 "ransom" demands. He does, of course, have the right to sell his work if he chooses. And that attitude may dramatically alter others' opinions of him.
He then very quickly backed down from the $500 demand, and released the unlocker.
He still hit hit his target of $500 very fast - he stopped accepting $ at $575.

Actually - the $500 hard ransom was correct. He changed the rules after getting some pushback.
My $.02 (and you get change back from the 2 cents) is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22433305&postcount=10
I do believe if he'd started with
- the unlocker is released
- donations are voluntary
- first 200 is mine for a tool I'll buy that will help you
- next 100 / 200 is dinner for my family
- remainder goes to charity (or keep it all)
That he'd have over 1,000 by now.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned at all on this forum, unless I'm reading it completely wrong.

Well, I already have WeChat installed so if they are gonna get me, they did long ago lol. Besides, if you root your phone this is a risk you're taking right off the bat. There's a reason Enterprises don't allow rooted devices to connect thru Microsoft/Exchange Activesync services.
Giving superuser access is a risk.
Edit: it also clearly states there is no refund if it doesn't work.

This method also works for the Canadian variants as well.
Personally I'd probably stay stock but I can see many take advantage
of this method to Root their smartphones.

But the question in play is development. You pay and then no development hurts too. Thats why I try to stick it with known models if at all possible
i rooted my U model
will cost you 125
that's not something you'd spread on xda

More then likely somebody will copy it and either charge money as well or just release it to the general population. Stuff leaks happens all the time and seeing that they are making what seems to be good money gives even more attraction to those skilled enough to copy it.

I suppose my feelings about paying are: if I want to root bad enough, I'm gonna want it $125 bad. In the scheme of things, is not a huge amount. Not if you can afford a $1300 smartphone, or even ~$800 with trade in.
And yes, it's also worth supporting development.
Edit: also agree, there is a lot going on in China. I've worked with colleagues in China and have friends there. Is a different culture there, there's so much more job competition than here. There's not room for half-assed efforts.
