I made a manual backup of my camera pictures (/mnt/sdcard/DCIM/Camera) because I changed my phone. After copying back the pictures to the new phone the whole sort order was gone.
I found a solution and posted it on my blog, there is also a script for correcting the problem

sorting pictures
Hi. i had a problem when i was copyin pics from one of my device to other. It couldnt be sorted . I tried many options such as renaming , quick pic . nne worked. I found that when you copy pics to windows and it automatically stamps a "date created" time any time a file is copied. Due to this when i copied my pics to a new device from windows folder it wouldnt be sorted by date taken rather was sorted by date created. the way around is not using windows as the middle platform.
I connected both my source phone and destination device to a laptop. Copy directly from one device storage to the destination device storage. this does not edit the time stamp. This worked for me and all the copied itmes were sorted in gallery according to time taken.
So the only way is to copy directly from one device storage to another device storage (without copying it to windows intermediate folder).
Hope this works. do let me know if you need any help.

[Q] Redirecting My Documents and My pictures to Storage Card does not seem to "stick"
Hi,
got my HD2 yesterday and have been toying since to set it up the way I'm used to with my previous Touch Pro and TytnII before that.
This shows again how spoiled we've been with excellent roms like the Energy Series!
I'm using the same 4GB microSD card I had on the TouchPRo since all my pictures etc are on there but I can't get the pictures displayed in the picture tab of Touchflo.
I redirected all relevant 'location' folders using Advanced Config but after soft reset, the HD2 is still displaying the demo pictures that come with the phone.
New pictures get stored on the storage card, but in the DCIM folder although I also specified the store location to be 'My Pictures'.
I tried both the pre-defined storage card locations in Advance Config, as well as the browse option to go to the relevant folder.
I though maybe it is because I have the Dutch HD2 version (yes, I could not wait as the WWE is only available on the 13th) but I checked and the storage card is named 'storage card', not some Dutch translation.
Anybody have any pointers where I could change this?
thanks a lot.

nobody who could help me? Been looking into the registry past couple of days at HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\image; HKLM\Services\Picture etc... every key seems to point to the right locations; but still when I take a picture, it doesn't show up in the TouchFlo3D interface...
help anyone?

the manual says that you must add a "album" as "favorite album" to show the pics in manila on todayscreen. maybe this is the solution?

I'm not sure this is what you're asking, but here's a quote from the manual:
Captured photos are named using the convention IMAGnnnn.jpg (where ‘nnnn’ is the counter), and are saved to the \DCIM\100MEDIA folder on the storage card.
and
To set a favorite album
The Photos & Videos tab on the Home screen displays photos and video files from the current favorite album. By default, the Camera Shots album which stores the photos and videos you captured using the Camera is set as the favorite album. You can change to another favorite album, if preferred.
1. On the Albums main screen, tap Albums.
2. On the Albums tab ( ), tap the album you want to set as your favorite.
3. Tap Menu > Set Album as Favorite, and then tap OK.
It looks to me like the pictures can be stored on the card, but only in one location and you must specify the location.
Sorry if I misinterpreted your question (I don't have an HD2 to play with yet).

@rebecker - you have almost miss understood The OP wants the Camera software to SAVE the photos into \storage card\My Documents\My Pictures - this does not work, none of the usual reg key changes work.
Default camea picture folder - DCIM vs My Pictures
I also have a similar problem. I've changed HKLM\software\HTC\camera\general\EnableDCIM = 0, so that I can use date/time prefix.
After the change, the HTC Album recognize \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures as the default camera folder. However, when I actually took a photo it went to DCIM folder... Not a big deal, but it is just a little annoying.
Any expert here know how to solve this?
Exactly the same problem. The camera saves its shoots to DCIM\100media, and not to My pictures, even if DCIM = 0...
I have 1.43 rom and I have also wanted to change default my picture and my documents folder to the folder on storage card. I didn't made it.
For the photo tab...yes I wanted few thing here too...because everytime I've set the favourite album to the storage card/photos...that was reset everytime I've connected hd2 to pc or when i removed microsd card and put it back...
The only way that I kept my favourite album fixed was with not connecting with usb or removing the card.
Ok...it takes only few seconds to change the favourite album back, but it is very annoying that hd2 doesnt remember the folder...
looks like live mesh mobile works pretty good.
I did something stupid and installed it on the storage card. I'm going to do a whole new install, and try on device to see if there's a difference. I got an error about invalid config, blah blah. it seems to loop on sync since i got the error, but the documents appear to sync anyhow.

Hi m8,
where did you get the live mesh mobile app ? can you send the cab please. thx
I hope you don't mind answering a question for me or pointing me in the right direction. I turned off Sense UI to save battery life and use the Windows Default setting. On my Home screen, the category Pictures appears and if I swipe to the left or right, the thumbnails appear. However, if I tap the picture to open it, I get the following message:
"The file 'IMAG002' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstaling or restoring this file."
This issue came about after trying to move all my photos from the HD2 to a folder on my desktop. I'm not sure if I accidentally moved/deleted an essential file, but it's almost impossible to view photos unless I switch back to Sense UI. I scoured the forums for an hour with no luck, but I would appreciate any assistance you could provide.
If it helps, I'm using the ROM version (22.May.2010 WWE). Thanks!
Well you could try copying all the files to your desktop, then reformat the memory stick.
Taking for granted that you have downloaded 'Omarket' for your handset (an app that lets you download many more apps), search for File Explore Extension (found under Utilities/Plugins).
This will not install with an app icon to your start menu, it simply expands the functions of the existing file explorer. Once installed, if you click and hold the file giving you trouble, one of the options will allow you to assign any of the programs to open the file types of your choice. Obviously the assigned program must first be able to accommodate the file type for this to work.
This is the easiest (and most beneficial) solution I could think of. Hope I helped
Thanks everyone! SirPhunkee advised me that I was missing the "album.cache" file in my DCIM\MEDIA100 folder. I cleared the memory card and started over from scratch. Ultimately this corrected the issue. Thanks again!

I used to get my photos stored on the 64Gb ext. storage. This morning I wanted to attach one of my photo to a correspondant through Viber but the Gallery app said there are no photos. I checked my the sd card with and my file explorer, and found all there. I made an experience, taking a new photo and verify where it is stored. In fact it was added to the same folder where all photos are. Again when I try to attach photo to my Viber message, I found only the last one I took but non of the others.
Can someone help me please to fix this issue, with many thanks.

I believe the list you see in some programs like Gallery is not a true filesystem list but instead is coming from a quick database (but apparently not from the huge hidden /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/.thumbdata3-xxxxxxx file that is also created there in the process, but which might not be a real file).
While that index is re-created the list will look empty - I think you might be able to force the re-index by rebooting your phone and then waiting a few minutes.

Thank you for your prompt reply and the explanations you gave me.
In fact the problem had been solved by moving the folder "camera" to another place.
Now Gallery can see all my photos.
Cheers
Hi there, I really need your help!
Whilst setting up an owncloud server and messing with the app on my phone it had somehow created a duplicate camera folder. Now instead of looking in that folder to check photos (they both said they had the same number in) I just took another picture, checked what folder went up in value and deleted the other, STUPIDLY!
So as you can guess, 90% of my photos and vids were in the folder I deleted. I've tried all ways to get the nexus 4 mounted as a drive but to no avail. I used a piece of software called Dr.Fone and it did actually see all the missing photos but upon restoring them most were screwed when you actually wanted to open them (thumbnails were fine) or the resolution/file size was not the same as the original.
Now, if I browse my phone and go to my camera folder I can see EVERY file in there, 10GB worth and all the right file sizes etc. My phone says I have 12gb free space so something is obviously up. I can't seem to copy these over or view them either. Again if I got in to the photos app I can see 95% of the thumbnails fine but they just won't open.
Does anyone have any ideas if or how I can get these photos back as there are lots of my young daughter on there including her 1st birthday party
Quite ironic really that it was the setting up of the backup solution for ours phone that led to this!!!!!!
TIA
Do not take anymore pictures or add anymore files to the disk or you will further corrupt it and overwrite the old ones.

I searched all those essential forums but did not find a solution. I tried to back up some pictures I have taken to the PC. The phone is recognized and I can find the folder on the phone where the pictures are stored. But in there, there are only a few pitcures and even folders are missing. If I check on the phone in the gallery app, everything's there as I expect it. How can that happen
I have connected the phone to all 3 USB ports of my win10 notebook and tried 2 different usb cabels. Allways the same...
maybe these pictures are synced with google and are shown from the cloud.
they are definitely on the phone. When I check with a file explorer on the phone, the folders are full of pictures.
Try syncthing

Check for a nomedia file.
If your phone sees a .nomedia file in a folder, it won’t load the folder’s contents when it scans your directory.
file explorers can see them
You may have to go to the respective Folders where images / videos are stored and Go to settings > Show hidden file to see the .nomedia file
thanks, but I don't think this the problem. I see all pictures whether I check with fotos app or f-stop gallery. If there was a .nomedia file, I couldn't see the pictures there, right?
Only on the pc I don't see the pictures on the connected phone.
I get the same problem only its not just pictures. Entire folders just don't show up. There's no nomedia files either. I get it to work occasionally by changing USB ports but that doesn't always work.
Yesterday I got all pictures backuped onto my pc. But it's kind of weird, I still don't get it, why
I have now 2 working methods but the "normal" way, with a running phone an copy paste with windows explorer from my pc still doesn't work.
method 1: basically the same as my "normal" way, but having the phone in recovery mode. Then all pictures and folders are present...
method 2: using syncthing. Great app, thanks for the tip! This one's working great even though the phone is running. Took some time to setup everything, but now it does its job
