The only issue I have is that the backplate on the left side flexes very slightly and makes a small creaking sound.
Does anyone else have this problem and should I exchange my TF while I still have a chance?

Does it bother you enough to wait for an RMA and maybe get a better one, that may or may not develop the same or other issues down the road? If it's worth the hassle and you don't think you can deal with it, then return it now.
Got that issue on my dock. Will send it back

Mine does that as well, a little creaking sound when I flex the back left side but other then that mine is perfect. I would not risk getting a worse one if that is the only thing wrong with it. I now have mine in a Slim case from Blurex that I ordered off Amazon, that helped stop the creak. I guess if it really bothers you then send it back, mine the creak was not that bad and did not really bother me...good luck.
I'm pretty sure that build defect is on most if not all TF's.
I put a skin guard on the back and have forgotten all about the creak. I guess it makes the back thicker and solves the problem. Don't know, but it works.
A cover works too.
But yeah, don't RMA. Wait is long and there is a possibility that either: 1) nothing changes 2) the TF comes back even worse (by the repair center or shipping)
Edit: Also, don't get the official Asus case. It's expensive and it's crap. Read the reviews on Amazon and get a cheaper one.
Hy community!
I am currently thinking of buying a Thinkpad.
My question is: Is it possible to install Whatsapp (current version) on thinkpad and run it without problems?
I tried it on my current Acer Iconia A500, but the applications says "device not recognized...". Is it because the Iconia has no SIM installed?
When I get a Thinkpad with SIM card will it work? Do I have to do it with the Titanium Backup method?
Best regards
I checked in the Play store:
The WhatsApp Messenger app states it is incompatible with the Thinkpad Tablet in both "tablet WIFI" and "tablet CELL" versions but it WILL work with my CM9 installation "Unknown Full CM9 on ThinkPad Tablet".
But when I flash CM9 to the Thinkpad I am loosing my warranty. Is this correct?
Is there an other way (with temporary root or so) to accomplish this problem?
you dont lose your warranty if your flash cm9 on it
if you send it in for repair or you mess it up, they just put a new board on it...
So, permanent Rooting the device is no warranty loss?
cool thing
yeah they just replace the board
however, id like to note that they do a pretty bad and sloppy job on it.
after i receive my tablet, the lines werent route as good as factory, they didnt use enough glue to glue the antenna in place, there were finger prints all over the the copper backing, it is missing some metal sheilds etc, the stick on copper werent stick or smoothed out at all.... etc etc
What depot did you send yours too? I have sent in many Thinkpads over the years and they have always come back pristine and looking great. Heck for the last 10 years all I have owned has either been Apple or IBM/Lenovo laptops. The IBM/Lenovo business class machines in particular the X and T series have never let me down.

Well it sounds great. One question persists. Do I have to use CM9 or will ANY rooted ROM do?
What criteria is responsible for Whatsapp to run?
Do I still have to backup on Phone and repair on Tablet with Titanium Backup?

hello
The center I sent it to was in Memphis, TN.
When I received my tablet - I was glad they replaced the screen (which had dust on it), and the power button (which broke), disappointed they replace my board (which was rooted),
Then I noticed the problem with the back- the Lenovo and ThinkPad sticker peeling off because they tried reusing it since they replace the backing plate (I end up going to ebay and buying two new stickers to correct their mistake, as lenovo support didnt even know those were stickers and thought they were one piece molded on the case)
Then I opened my tablet to install my Gobi 3000 card back in and I noticed a number of things wrong - including; Grounding strap for inverter not securely installed (I have since grounded it manually with a 12 gauge wire), LCD Cable was horribly ripped (I do not have a spare so I went electrical tape on it to fix their mistake), finger prints all over the copper backing, antennas not securely mounted and peeling off - grounding tape for the antenna peeling off - and all covered with fingerprints. The Antenna wires were also routed wrong so it would not reach my gobi card (I end up removing the board and rerouting the lines then installing my board again). I also notice all the metallic padding around the antenna and batteries were gone!
They replaced my cable that goes from the board to the power board with a weird cheap looking replacement. the battery was also not the one I had on when I sent my tablet in (i put a mark on it before I sent my tablet in)
The sticker for the serial number was put on pretty ****ty, so I end up removing it.
I also notice it was factory protocol to replace the screws when it was removed.... none of the screws were removed and they were all pretty stripped looking...
I just felt they could have done a slightly better job doing it... or if that is a problem, I would be more than happy to replace the parts my self...
when I called in because my gobi card failed, i had the option of sending it in to have them replace it or have them send me the card to replace it myself
I chose to replace it myself and that was when I found all these flaws in the repair...
I was so happy when I got my TF300T back in June but within 60 days it had went bad . Randomly when waking up it woud show the batteries in the pad and the dock were completely empty when they were 80 to 90 percent charged and the touchpad wouldn't work. I sent it in for RMA work and supposedly they put in new parts. I have had it back for less than thirty days and it is doing the same thing. What a shame as i love my pad.

It sucks for sure, but no electronic device is perfect. All devices have a defective ratio when they mass produce products, it sucks that you got a bad one
Had mine rma'd because my Jelly Bean update went bad. Running nice since then, think I needed a re flash of the stock ROM. Once I got it back and upgraded, been super smooth, more than the original out of the box
Back From 2nd RMA
Ok, I got my Pad back from the 2nd RMA this past Thursday. Everything seems to be working great so far. They replaced more parts inside. I hope this thing is golden now. They did pay for shipping this time which stops the bleeding from my wallet.
I think ASUS cut a lot of QC corners to get the TF300 out the door for such a low price. I got two bad units. Mine's fine now, but that's only after one return and one RMA.
Hi all
I bought the new nexus 7(c90) 32gb a few days ago from PC world along with the 2 year guarantee. Out of the box it was working perfectly and I began setting it up as you do .
Anyways after around 10 mins of using it a tiny flake of the silver plastic bezel felt loose and then fell off so I have this 4mm black "scrape" on the corner of my N7's bezel but as this is so small (I will try to include a pic) I am just putting it down as wear and tear
However here is my bigger issue. After reading how many 8gb/16gb N7's had the dreadful screen lift I decided to check mine. It seems that the middle of the left side of the screen is higher than the right side and does not sit flush with the bezel however it's barely sitting a width of a hair above it. I can run my nail from the middle of the screen to the right and feel the bezel is higher than the screen however when I do the same to the left side my nail simply falls off. If I hold my N7 horizontally and look down at it , the left side is higher than the right as the bezel cannot be seen towards the middle of the screen. If you look at the left side you can sort of see the screen bulging out by the smallest amount and if you push on the screen you can see a very very small amount of screen flex.
I would really appreciate any advice. I asked my parents to buy this as a Bday present me as these N7's are really good value for money and this being my first proper tab I really wanted to flash roms ect but due to the screen lift/bezel issue im not sure what to do. PC world claim to refund or replace any item that develops a fault within 21 days. Spoke to my parents and they tell me if it's that small of an issue I’m just better off leaving it. Yesterday I want to a large shopping centre and tested out some N7's(not sure on gb's) and 2 of the 3 displayed a similar issue however due to the rush I’m not 100% sure. Also tested Tesco’s 16gb and there was no screen lift.
I'm worried that after a while the screen issue may get worse. After some reading last night I read that 32gb's are excluded from this design flaw so Is there a possibility of me owning a faulty one? . Do you think PC world would accept these as "faults?" . If I'd never seen the thread on screen lift then I most likely would have never noticed anything. .
Hope all this makes sense, any questions please ask!
thanks!
I bought one yesterday mate from Currys and I didn't think mine was bad until I compared it against the display model in store today. Mine had a lot of screen lift and I could easily get my finger nail between the screen and the bezel, the quality was poor to say the least.
I took it back today and had a really good chat with the guys at Currys and they were mega helpful. I ended up exchanging it for a new unit and its near on perfect so I'm chuffed to bits.
You won't get close to getting a tablet of this spec for the money. Take it back and get another one.

thanks for the reply. I'm also able to wedge my nail in the gap between the bezel and left side of the screen. I am strongly considering returning it back in the next few days however I'm not sure if they will accept it as the screen lift isn't that noticible initially . Also how did the exchange process go?, did you just get a new boxed replacement or did you ask them to open up a few?.
Cheers

Definitely get it replaced.
-Brought to you by Marino's Nexus 7-
Mine was quite noticeable because even though I hadn't had the tablet a full 24hrs there was already dust and bits gathering down one side of the screen which made it stand out even more. The screen lift was something I could only see getting worse. I actually took the back off for a nosey before I exchanged it and I could see there were missing screws down the side of the bezel which I believe is how Asus are trying to combat the screen lift.
The two guys I spoke with at Currys were obviously in to their gadgets as well and were aware of the quality issues with these tablets and said if I wasn't happy I could have my money back or exchange it for something else, or they said I could try another one and see how I got on. I personally didn't suggest opening them until I found one I was happy with as I appreciate they wouldn't be able to sell them then.
I'm happy with my new one though and I'm really glad I exchanged it.

I took 2 back to tesco both within 48hrs, both suffering screen lift, my 3rd has it ever so slightly, less than 0.25mm but as it's in a case it hasn't got any worse so I'm happy to live with it as is.
So yes take it back as it is a known fault.

I bought one from Staples and after couple of days of use I too found the screen lift on the left side. I finally returned it yesterday morning. Then in the evening I got a new one from Office Depot. So far its free from any defect. I hope it stays that way. Also my new one starts with serial no. CA0K. The one was defective was C90K.

Yes even though there are known issues and we've had bad experiences, don't get clouded in to thinking this isn't a good tablet because it is and I personally think it's well worth the perseverance. I've now got it in an official Asus neoprene flip case and a zagg invisible shield screen protector, looks the dogs

I will be going in for a replacement tommorrow, I just hope that they will accept it. Like I said before, the screen lift is not very apparent however it is there. If the staff disagree and kick up a fuss that there is no screen lift or the screen lift has no negitive effects then what's the best course of action?
Since buying the N7 and discovering it had screen lift + chipped bezel I don't have the satisfaction of it being "mine",really wanted to flash roms and experiment but the confusion in returning it or not kept me stock :crying: . The N7 I have does not have any light bleed, ghosting and I'm pretty sure the colours of the screen are normal. Should I check this on my replacement N7 when I get it?
Also I'm looking at a N7 starting with C90 right?
Another thought is getting a refund and saving up for a 32gb nexus 10 . Also A N10 would cost me around £200 extra . I initaily went with a nexus7 as it was cheap for the high specs, In my budget and as it is my first android device & tablet allows me to learn & tinker with it with no regret compared to a almost half grand N10. I have also heard on here that many users downsized from a 10" to a 7" . Could anyone shed their opinion?
P.s: I have attached some images
I'm returing mine for black lines , the only thing is I can't find the warranty card . Do I need it ?

I'm so shocked that Google hasn't stepped in to improve the quality on the 32 gig models after all the problems with the 8 and 16. I love Google products but quality must come first not quantity. I used to work for Sony and this would've been totally unacceptable.
Return it and open the replacement right in the store and continue to do that until you get a good one.
Return it right away. The more tablets that get returned because of this "screen lift" the better. Maybe next time they will not repeat the same mistake.

Just an update
Went in and was able to get a replacement N7, Checked this one in the store and it had pretty much no screen lift apart from a very very very slight lift from the left towards the bottom. We also checked another one inc a display model and they were much worse. I also went snooping in various shops to look at the N7 and all of them had some sort of screen lift.
Overall I'm quite happy with the new one, my only complaint is that there is a small amount of backlight bleeding in the bottom left corner if the brightness is set at 100%. If the brightness is on auto or below 50% you cannot really see it unless you are actively looking for it.
I've heard much worse issues with the N7 so I'm happy with this one. Am I right the LED's are only located on the left side of the tablet?
I'd return it again. I've returned 3 and my newest is flawless. there are good units out there, you will find one!

The glass on my nexus 4 has cracked couple months ago after falling 1-2 feet from my table. Only recently I decided to replace it with the Display + Frame kit in order to avoid all the mess with the heat gun. Replacement was a piece of cake, very easy phone to work with. Sadly, there are bad news. The touch screen is ghosting and being erratic. I bought the replacement from ebay, linked below, and have messaged seller about replacement.
I tried to save couple bucks, but now I will have to ship it back for RMA and have to deal with down time. The unit does not look like a cheaply made clone, but the labeling is pretty much copy and paste with weird font, suggesting that the item might be clone. Now take a look at replacement from repairuniverse website. The touch screen controller has a version number on it, which is 1.1 The original screen on my N4 is version 1.0 (1238). If I am not mistaken, the new touch screen fixes the issue of random minor-ghosting which I did have form factory.
I will try the RMA replacement, but if that does not work, where can I buy the quality touch screen with frame? Is the one sold by repairuniverse as good as it gets?

My sister smashed up her phone a few months back (Nexus 4), and then a few weeks later my girlfriend did the same thing to her Nexus 5. I ordered both replacement screens from ETradeSupply (here's the N4 one: http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-lg-...nd-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html) and while they are definitely pricey they have been working so far without issue.
I feel they are overpriced though and there might be a cheaper and just as reliable solution.

Would you say that those were original parts or counterfeit? Judging by the pictures, they look like original, but then on ebay the seller put up pictures of original replacement and sold counterfeit. The biggest giveaway is probably labels of ribbon cables.

I am not sure, their site says OEM but I do remember there being some strange gold stickers on them that weren't on the busted screens. A few of the sticky tabs (like the one that sits under the camera, and the one under the micro USB port) also did not look the same. Everything else did though, like the radio cables etc., were all the same color. Honestly I don't know for sure.
You should go with spareslg.com. They are the only site I know that appears to sell brand new service packs. Bear in mind you should replace the battery as well, it is impossible for the average person to reuse the battery after a screen replacement.

I will keep spareslg.com in my although they are outside of my region.
Why would the battery need to be replaced? Because of possible damage when taking it out?
I found it easier to take everything out first, and battery last. It is easier to pry the battery on the side where antenna cable is taped.
You can try reuse it. I've seen cases where people have done that and then 2 weeks later it has swollen so much it cracks the back of the phone. LG would replace your battery if they fixed the screen.
Nothing is impossible with right tools and patience I have changed lcd and back glass few months ago and still using old battery without any problems ...

working fine. for some reason the price for this changes lots i got it for 78 but it shows now for 73.00 plus ship and import, I have seen him list it for 300.00 don't know whats up with that. note proximity sensor is very finicky when changing screens. In my case turning the rubber seal around fixed it on 2 screens.

You can check the lg website for Portugal. They will link to spareslg.com for OFFICIAL parts. So there are some global websites that will sell you OEM spare part. They are in my region but for what I see they ship worldwide.
On ebay you get some good deals and others not so good

So here is another update. I have put away my broken N4 and used HTC Amaze 4G for quite a while. Recently Amaze began to have issues with touch screen until part of it stopped working all together.
Figured I would give ebay another try. Seller is wholesalegadgetfix, item number 151206512431. Item is listed as OEM, but when I asked the seller they weren't sure. Whatever, placed an ordered and received it today.
First of all, the unit looked OEM-ish. Synaptics MC was clearly labeled and its ribbon cable was stamped with few numbers and Rev 1.1 Display ribbon cable had markings with numbers that are similar to updated actual OEM item.
Overall, markings look OEM, but not necesarly in right place. Frame itself is OEM. Tried to test the unit before assembly but it was almost impossible, therefore, I proceeded with the install.
Right off the bad, no issues with touchscreen like previous ebay unit had, at least not yet *fingers crossed*. Display quality looks good, although I don't remember what original looked like.
One bad thing about it. There is slight light-bleeding at the bottom left where back button is. It's not terrible, but I imagine it won't be a big issues with translucent bar. After-all, this is my best phone option as of now.
Sorry for bumping an old thread.
